When a convicted killer is saved by another man's confession, Amos Decker, now an FBI special task force detective, must find the truth in this "utterly absorbing" #1 New York Times bestseller (Associated Press).

Convicted murderer Melvin Mars is counting down the last hours before his execution--for the violent killing of his parents twenty years earlier--when he's granted an unexpected reprieve. Another man has confessed to the crime.

Amos Decker, newly hired on an FBI special task force, takes an interest in Mars's case after discovering the striking similarities to his own life: Both men were talented football players with promising careers cut short by tragedy. Both men's families were brutally murdered. And in both cases, another suspect came forward, years after the killing, to confess to the crime. A suspect who may or may not have been telling the truth.

The confession has the potential to make Melvin Mars--guilty or not--a free man. Who wants Mars out of prison? And why now?

But when a member of Decker's team disappears, it becomes clear that something much larger--and more sinister--than just one convicted criminal's life hangs in the balance. Decker will need all of his extraordinary brainpower to stop an innocent man from being executed.

Excellent read!. Very suspenseful

The Last Mile. Baldacci is a good storyteller and this story was good to the last page. Amos Decker is a good protagonist as he is flawed as well as gifted.

Crzybubble

Thoroughly engrossing and satisfying.. Great book. Tremendous characters, plot, and execution.

MemoryMan/TheLastMile. Memory Man and The Last Mile combined two of my favorite things: football and a murder mystery. What's not to like? The supporting characters are nicely developed and an interesting group but Decker is amazing in every sense of the word. All his wonderful weirdness makes me want more more more of his adventures in dealing with both his ultra unique and fascinating brain function as he solves the case and his struggles to act human in small doses along the way. I will be there when the next in this series shows up and Decker and his team reassemble.

Decent read…. Good, not great, I liked the first book in this series better, and I have no desire to read the third. Interesting characters, but too long, and too many plot twists that were difficult to follow and connect the dots.

LaDog54

The Last Mile. Very intriguing, but then all David Baldacci books are. Great read!!!

You will not be disappointed!. Love this book. Can’t wait to start reading the next novel. It was hard to put this book down.

The Last Mile. 3.5/5 stars. Entertaining read. Kind of lame plot. Hal R

Good not great. Not bad, not great. Loved a lot of the early chapters, anticipation grew, and then he rushed through the resolution. Never went in to detail about the downfall of the villains, which based on the setup, would have been fascinating.

Memory man great....last mile not so great!. Memory Man had me captivated all the way through from beginning to end. Last mile was a complete mess and I kept falling asleep waiting for the plot to thicken. It took forever to get decent. I agree with the above about a typical blame game on all southern white males for being racist crap. This story was to far fetched and I am sorry this was not a good read. And I read a lot. Btw, I noticed a couple of dumb typos in the book. Who edited this thing?

Keckert1

The last mile. How can I review it before I read it?

Great Read. The Last Mile was an enjoyable read, cover to cover. I’m looking forward to reading the next Amos Decker story, The Fix.

This will be my last Baldacci book. Absolutely horrible. Too many hours I'll never get back! Loaded with ridiculous football metaphors and analogies that those of us who actually played football would never use. The story jumps all over and stretches common sense. Why wouldn't the evidence be hidden in a globe? That's always happening! Too many silly leaps such as that to count. I'm giving up on this writer...

KHemeyer

Great character with conflicts. Decker is a flawed character who is determined to do what is right no matter the consequences. He wants the bad guys to be held accountable no matter how many years have passed. The character of Amos Decker gives the reader a small peek into what it maybe like to have Autism, Asperger’s syndrome or another neurological disorder that has high functioning brain power. I really enjoy following Baldacci’s characters over many years.

Toni FGMAMTC

Twisty. At first I thought this book wasn’t anything special. Usually I really like this author so I was surprised by how average it felt. Then the twists kicked it, and I was fairly stunned by the directions it took. This installment didn’t seem like it focused quite a much on Decker’s unique ability/disorder as the first book, but he did amazing work figuring everything out. The Last Mile was a win for me. I’m looking forward to more in this series and more from this author.

What a read!. Captured from the beginning to the end. Loved the cast of characters.

Baldacci never fails to draw you in. Another great page turner from Mr. Baldacci. It was hard to put down and carry on with other of life’s necessities. Amos Decker is a new character for me so each new book will be much anticipated to see inside the workings of his unusual mind. Highly recommend

The Last Mile. Get a good night of sleep, clear your calendar, and find a comfortable spot. Don't worry about possible distractions. Nothing will tear you away from this wonderfully written book.

The Last Mile. Good character development and pace.

Happy766

first time reader of david Baldacci. first time reading a david baldacci. i enjoyed the book

Slalom38

Entertaining but far fetched. The dots Amos connected seriously stretched the laws of probability, perfect recall notwithstanding.

Nacjr777

Amos Decker. Gripping from start to finish. The growing number of players is an added bonus to Amos. I hope we see more of Mellow in a future story. The connection was a building point that I want to see more of. Expertly told mystery from a great writer. You latch on to his characters and see them grow ( in the story, as well as on you ).

Pcjm11

Awesome!. Very hard to put down! I couldn’t wait until the next minute I had to pick it back up again!

ROJOATX1974

Last Mile. Amos Decker is such a fascinating character....I can’t wait to read the next book in this series

LogosPhD

The Last Mile. Worst novel I've ever read. Written for minds that want to be easily led. Last Baldacci novel I'll sample.

Knightsbane

The Last Mile. Author engages the reader in this tale from start to finish made for a good read. Main characters are fleshed out making the reader eager to read "what happens next", even when it's not "plot driven". Enough twists & turns to easily qualify as a "who done it". The " why" had its own surprises. Nothing's perfect, but I'd definitely read next book in Decker series.

Heather from Lubec

Another page turner! Perfect vacation read. Onto book 3!. Couldn’t put it down... without giving a spoiler alert, one issue wasn’t addressed nearly as well or as quickly as it should have been, leaving me perplexed for several chapters. In the end, all’s well, that ends well... for the most part!

Bruins mom

Football lovers, get ready!. I read this in one day. I couldn't put it down. Great mix of genres for the sports-minded and murder mystery lovers.

The Last Mile. I really enjoyed this second book in the series as well. My heart goes out to Decker the central character and I don't have a clue why. Can't wait for next book.

Great read!. Loved the plot and the pathos of this story. Very human emotions, but also extremely inspired. Give it a read and enjoy!

Connelly fan

Great!. Super fast read - finished in a weekend. Great escape. A page turner. Surprising twists but not so much that you can't catch the clues.

Texasfan2011

The Last Mile, one of the best of 2016. I read Ben Coes, Jonathan Hart, Daniel Silva, Lee Child and other David Baldacci books (Camel Club series and Will Robie series). This is one of my favorites and top 3 of the 50 books I have read this year. It is a seriously good book with an unusual story line and interesting characters. If I had known how much I would enjoy The Last Mile, I would have read the series in order. I skipped Memory Man, the first book in the series, because the main character was not particularly likable or intriguing in the free sample. The free sample for The Last Mile was not much better. I am glad that I went back and read all of the reviews and decided to make the purchase based on favorable reviews and my experience with other Baldacci books. I don't usually buy books at $14.99 plus tax. It was quite good and worth every penny.

Ellsworth1913

Great Read. I couldn’t put this book down. I love it when a book grabs me from the fevers beginning. This one fits the bill.

The Last Mile. Outstanding. The author had so many plots and subplots, the reader can't put the book down. When I finished the book, it was like saying goodby to a real close friend. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

TrailRunner440

Outstanding. Literally could not put it down. Dead serious. Stayed up until the wee hours of the morning the other day because I was that hooked. So, so good. Well done, David.

The Last Mile. This book is one that, once started, can't be put down. I highly recommend it to anyone who even remotely likes mysteries, thrillers, or cop shows on tv. David Baldacci did it again! 😍

The Last Mile. Again, a wonderful book by David Baldacci. Amos Decker, the main character, is so loveable and fascinating. His memory skills and persona are so interesting and intriguing. I enjoyed every minute reading this novel. Suspenseful, thrilling....a real page turner!! I read it in 2 days. Please continue writing using this character again, soon. Excellent story!

The Long Mile. Melvin Mars was a likable central character but the plot line crept along. The question of the FBI having a task force helping with a cold case that had no credible facts or data to back that sort of investment was just not believable. The entire premise was far fetched and definitely spread like unbelievable piece of fiction. A slow moving very long mile.

Usmcbill

Last Mile. Always outstanding! Hard to put it down

Imustbcrazytoplaythisgame

Complete. Love love loved this book! Lots of twists and turns. Little nuances that make you think you have it figured out but no there is another little twist. And of course the relationship between Decker and Melvin. Plus a little football thrown in for good measure.

JPB 9871

The Last Mile. Pretty good. Some of the logic at the end was a little hard to grasp, yet will worth a reading.

Destingator

Author mailed this one in. Baldacchino seems to have now joined the James Patterson industrial production model of popular fiction. All right, I bought the book and finished it... Barely. Trite plot, predictable twists, disappointing ending. I bid Mr. Baldacci's future works adieu.

Bob1446

The Last Mile-OK Read. The concept was good but it took too many twists to be a great read! Baldacci cannot author an exciting a story as John Sandford.

Bruins mom

Football lovers, get ready!. I read this in one day. I couldn't put it down. Great mix of genres for the sports-minded and murder mystery lovers.

Swd1966

Excellent!. Loved this book! It kept you wondering... The plot changed at every turn. Could not put it down.

Rivangene

Worst Decker ever!. If you're trying to get away from the pc crowd don't read this. Conservatives are bad, people from the south are racist, Texas kills innocent death penalty inmates and rich white guys are muderers, racists, evil and are in total control. This was the most boring one-sided piece of tripe I've ever read.

Tinasouris Tiny

The Last Mile. This was a great book. I couldn't put it down.

I couldn't put it down.. I had the audio book and I couldn't stop listening to it. Great book, well written and not least, well produced. I loved all the voices. It kept you engaged the entire time.

Twinepoo

Incredible!. I love to read, and I read a lot. But I've never read a book that made me want to stand up and cheer...until I read The Last Mile! It is a fabulous story. David Baldacci can draw such pictures with his words you almost feel like if you looked up from the page, you'd see Amos Decker and Melvin Mars standing in front of you, discussing football, or maybe just having a beer and enjoying the quiet. I love this character! Amos is my new favorite cop/detective/investigator or whatever you want to call him! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

LeezerKlein

The Last Mile. This was truly a great book. Thank you for the wonderful reading I love all your books. I have never thought of you waisting my time reading your books. I would like to see the Decker series move forward especially with Melvin Mars meeting up again. Thanks again

Th Last Mile. Outstanding writing...enjoyed every page! Kept me interested to the very end.

Peter 14

Excellent Plot. I enjoyed this story very much. Amos Decker is truly a character, a vey unique one. Baldacci is a great story teller.

Sdrtywq

I love this book!. Could not put it down. Had all the right characters, causes, and concerns. Thank you David!

Gimphd

The Last Mile. A convoluted mess. Not worth the money. Jumps all over the place. Not much of a plot. Seems like 5 authors got to write portions without knowing what the other 4 were writing. Memory Man was a fairly good read, but this was a horrible follow up.

Dasjim

The Last Mile. Certainly hope this is just an introduction to a new series. I love the interplay between Decker and his new best friend, "Mellow". Looking forward to future suspense and surprise.

Snorkdog

Great Story Line. Always entertaining.

Kris JJ W

A familiar face. Its always wonderful to read about a favourite character. This time is no different. Great. The novel stays with you... Until the next one...

Valkster57

The Last Mile. Yes! Baldacci does it yet again. Another great book that is impossible to put down, will captivate and hold you throughout.

Island pita

Great writing by Baldacci. Fascinating story. Keeps you on the edge of your seat with so many twists and turns. Hard book to put down. You want to read on to find out what's on the mind of Amos- such a unique character. Looking forward to his next adventure. Definitely a must read book.

Ellebeebee

The Last Mile. Was very much looking forward to this book after reading Memory Man, so pre-ordered. Strong start but plot fizzled badly with all kinds of improbable twists and turns and was a boring struggle to finish. Alex Decker deserves better.

Taskmaster66

Enjoyable. Solid read, worth the money and great balanced story.

Shotkizer

Great New Series. A Homerun!. To be frank, I was very disappointed in Baldacci ripping off Lee Childs Jack Reachers series with his Puller books. Thought he had lost his innovation after the Great Camel Club series. But he has met redemption. The Memory Man books are pure genius. JOB WELL DONE!
