Little Women by Louisa May Alcott Book Summary
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Meet the Marches! Louisa May Alcott’s classic introduces us to four unforgettable sisters: beautiful Meg, tomboyish Jo, delicate Beth, and Amy, the indulged youngest of the lot. With their father serving as a Union chaplain, the Marches help their devoted mother, Marmee, make ends meet as their fortunes dwindle. The book starts with the family performing a small act of kindness for a family even less fortunate than they are and expands from there, drawing us in as the March girls grow up-and experience joy, hardship, failure, heartbreak, success, and love.

An awesome classic! Enjoyed thoroughly!

Thoroughly legible on my phone. I can see why Little Women is a classic.

I think I’ve watched the movie once before but the book was so much better!!

Love this book it’s an amazing book.

I love how domestic it is. Truly my favorite book

After 26 years, I can finally say that I now have a favorite book that I can read over and over again.

Heartwarming It made me cry

This is an amazing book. This is probably the best book I have ever read. It has so many good morals and lessons along with drama and romance. I love the book from the beginning to the ending. Don’t think twice about reading this book just read it because after those pages you will think of life differently and look at life with a different point of view.

One of the best books I’ve ever read.

A heartfelt classic that every young girl should read before reaching adulthood. Loved it and plan to reread it because despite its length, you will long for more.

It’s great tho it is a little sad at some times it’s very good I definitely suggest it. I read it when I was 8 and loved it. Ever since I’ve gotten multiple copies of it and watched all the movies/tv shows there great to totally suggest that as well. And well if u get what I’m trying to say it AMAZING READ IT! 😜📖

It’s a kind of slow book, but the it’s definitely worth it. For the 1860s this is not too hard to understand.

A definite 5 out of 5 offered stars. I read this book during the summer of 2020, and I practically devoured it. It is an exceptionally charming read, and it goes through two of the things that young women will experience - love and loss. Although this book wasn’t dreadful loss after dreadful, heartbreaking loss. It had its sweet and rather wholesome moments, and the important lessons that the four of them learn throughout the book are so well developed and expressed. This is a wonderful story, might I even say work of art, by Miss Alcott.

But way too long story

When I was a kid I watched the movie Little Women with Shirley Temple in it and I loved it and always wanted to read the book. I downloaded it 2 weeks ago and at 56 I have read it. However, I found a lot of it very boring and skimmed through quite a bit of it, though I was determined to finish it because I never like to start a book and not finish it.

i love you jo march

a lovely story

good story

Of course, I’m okay for this.

A wonderful story of three sisters growing up and all of their challenges and tribulations.

I was so surprised I liked this book so much because the verbiage was difficult at times. But that is what. The book so amazing!

This classic is well worth the little time and effort needed to appreciate its timeless value. A relatively small cast of characters and straightforward plot lines make for easy but enjoyable reading.

Wonderful story. Many misspellings.

Never would I’ve thought I’d enjoy a book about domestic experience as much as I enjoyed little women. This book carries so much warmth that i miss in lots of other books. Even though a little bit long, I never wanted it to end! Got a bit too attached to the characters, and their development throughout the course of the novel was splendid.

A wonderful book about sister hood and growing up.

👍🏻

The book was beautiful and takes you to more simpler times.

A very down to earth and spiritual book. I really enjoyed reading it.

She's done it again.

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀😃🤩

The voice of this book isn’t that good so I didn’t like it

I decided to read Little Woman after watching Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the novel. Let me start off by just saying this book kept me hooked from the very beginning, now I see why they call it a classic piece of literature. It took me though all the emotions, from happiness, to love, and heartbreak. I felt attached to the characters spiritual, especially Amy. I honestly feel even if you don’t enjoy reading you would still love this book.

I feel sad after it,I really in joyed it and wish if it never end...thx L.M for that lovely book 📖

I wish I read that book sooner, the many life lesson for girls and as well boys is so beautiful. I like how Jo’s life did a complete turnaround. And feel sorry for Beth who couldn’t go on. But it’s probably the best book I’ve ever read. I’ll definitely recommend this book one day to my daughters when I have kids.

I remember reading this book in 7th grade and I never fell harder. Although I had a little trouble reading it at first. I still understood the concept and I still re-read this book today as a junior. I’ve never been big on reading but little women is a classic and even Rachel Green can agree with you on that!

It is so romantic and heartfelt it makes you cry. It is undoubtedly one of the greatest classics of all time..🥰🥰

Loved re-reading this book after some sixty years. I laughed, sighed and cried now, just as I did so long ago. Heartily recommend it to anyone and everyone for its beauty and honesty.

I could read It a hundred times and still not get sick of It

I love classics and this one is one of my favorites🤩🤩🤩it is a very touching story about four girls hope you enjoy it as much as me

I love how each sister is always thinking for the good and has their own different personalities. This book just drew me in. It’s not a perfect princess or Barbie story where everyone is happy and has no hardships. The sisters face challenges and overcomes them, not immediately. Is there any way I can give 10000 stars? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely loved this book! It was amazing and so fun to read! I would totally recommend this book to anyone!

This book, though pretty old, is most certainly my favorite book. I love all of the characters and how relatable they are. You are completely immersed in their world, and you feel like you could almost talk to them. Louisa May Alcott is a genius with her writing! I could not put this book down, and finished it in only a few days. I absolutely recommend this book, and hope others will do the same!

YESSSSS GOOD BOOK :DD

A must read!!

Wow

I loved reading this book growing up and still do to this day. An absolute classic novel, beautifully written, with characters that will forever hold a special place in my heart.

This book doesn’t fail to lift your spirits and make you feel like you’re part of the March family yourself. It’s such a great book for when you want to relax and remember to cherish small moments in life.

Such a classic. So detailed and I absolutely love the dialogue, and the way the characters are set up. I do wish though that the book was a little shorter. I mean come on, 1,400 pages? Crazy. My oldest daughters have all read it, but my two youngest ones have not. I can’t wait for them to dig into this masterpiece.

I’m obsessed with this book, so much that I woke up at two am to continue reading. I laughed so hard at some parts and cried my way through part two. Part two was very sad in my opinion... but I won’t spoil it. I personally feel that both Laurie and jo deserved better...their relationship made me laugh and cry the most. The reason I gave it four stars was that I feel like part two had too much confusion and hurt feelings, I cried my eyes out even more than the characters did, proving that I was way too attached to it. But it’s a good book.

I read the book little women by Louisa May Alcott and it touched every corner of my heart I loved it so so much. -Emmy Turek (11)

This story is beautiful and I recommend it for all ages. The story is truly beautiful and teaches lessons that we should all follow no matter the day and age.

My favourite book 📖 I read it all the time 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍

longest book ive evr seen.

It is a book for its time. It is parochial and shows all the prejudices of that era. I would not recommend it to young people today.

A classic, 'nuff said!

What a classic! I love this book. I do not understand why people would find the story of four sisters turning into "little women" boring.

I love this book!! It's my ultimate favorite book of all times!! And I'm only not even half was through!!!!

little women is a classic story about 4 young sisters lives turning into little women. i find the story amazing.

A wonderful story with wonderful lessons about life.

Some of the phrases are not so timeless but the overwhelming message of being grateful for what we have is.

Whilst nostalgic for the past, full of fun and adventure, this tale has an additional modern relevance in discussing how to be a good person (and their mom has some great ideas on how to). Minor frustration that from page 477 the layout is corrupted and unable to read a few pages.

What an amazing book

One of the best period novels of all time. I have read it many times and I am still reading it presently, A true masterpiece.

I loved this book. It was engaging and I couldn’t put it down.

Still to date one of my favourite books of all time.

I loved this book!!! It was a story of four sisters - Beth, Meg, Jo and Amy. It was certainly an amazing end.

A timeless classic, full of the human story. It holds wisdom for both young and old, men and women.

The book is an all time Classic! It's filled with drama that makes you want to either laugh or cry. I did however think the book dragged on at times but above all it was a good book!

The first time I read this book I fell in love with it. I laughed and I cried in this book it's just so fantastic definitely one of my all time favorites

This book is a masterpiece. The beautiful inspiring tale of four sisters and their journey to womanhood, with their mother as their guide. Readers will laugh, cry and share in the joys of the March's. A must read, you can't put it down!

An old book I read many years ago, I really enjoyed it a second time around

Little women is a sad yet beautiful story about 4 young girls try to find there purpose in life. There are some sad times and lots of specials times along the way. The last thing I have to say is that this story really touch's your heart!

Good book although a bit confusing at times.

Yes I got to page 660 and nothing but blank pages afterwards. Unbelievable! I was just getting into the story! Very unpleasant experience I can tell you.

Excellent book to read loved reading

Wow this book is really good. It took me a while get into with it being a classic and I’m glad I persevered with it. I couldn’t put it down.

Very inspiring!

A delightful chronicle of a family that cherish love and patience, hopes and kindness. A timeless algorithm for a successful hart. A great read for everyone who, once again, needed a classic example of a happy life with all the loved ones around

The best book I have ever read in the hole of my life it is exactly like the film and the film is exactly like it brilliant

I loved this book from the first page!

I’m 10 and I read this book a week ago, I have to say the Proper English is very hard to understand and so is the vocabulary but it’s still enjoyable! I was recommended this book by my best friend and I wanted to say if you want a book to enjoy on a long tired some journey then this is the book for you! What are u waiting for? Read in awe!

So I am 16... Firstly, looking back on reading it, a few months ago... I really did love it, but for my age the language was very difficult to understand at times because of how old it is, but nevertheless I read it all and I would probably rate it a 3.5 based off of my reading experience but that is not this wonderful books fault! It truly is a classic! I am beyond excited to watch the movie aswell!

A charming book full of character and quite insightful years later into people’s foibles. You will fall in love with the March sisters and long for more adventures by them.

A place to find warmth and power when life is hard

Good

This book is absolutely marvelous! It is emotional, sad, joyful and all sorts. The only negative (do excuse my pessimistic side!) is that if Laurie really did love Jo, why would he marry Amy? And also I see no good in Professor Braer. My favorite character is Beth. The horror and shock I had when she died! Ph darling Beth, such a shame! Laurie deserves Jo. I don’t know why they couldn’t marry each other. To me, Jo did love Laurie.

Having read this beautifully written book countless times, it never fails to make me feel every emotion that all the characters are feeling. Only a superb writer can make you fall into a book so completely you feel as though you are part of it.

It was absolutely amazing I loved it omg the last page was awesome I didn't like it I loved it 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

I haven't read this since I was a child, but I love it now just as much as I did then.

This book brings tears and happiness and make you feel like a sister to the marches

Great book! Couldn't stop reading it!

I read this book and thought it was brill. Such a heart-warming, wonderful story! One of my top books! READ IT!

READ IT I haven't yet but loads of ppl say I should!

Such a beautiful story! Although sad at times, it truly is a guide for any woman Loved it :)

As the title suggests I would have never chosen this book to read however I did due to a recommendation from a friend. A chapter or two in and you can't help but wonder what happens to the characters. There are parts to this book which can easily be skipped over and the reader will still not miss anything of the storyline, which was the only downside I found other than it getting overly descriptive at times. I thoroughly enjoyed this heart warming story.

My favorite book ever

This book was fantastic and totally absorbing. Certainly in my top five books! Must read!

It is a really good book and easy to follow .... I enjoyed little women

Having read this classic book for the first time I reproach myself for not reading this as a child. Very enjoyable!

As good now as it was when I first read it years ago!

This is my favourite book of all time! Read this book and it will bring you to tears and adventures in your mind!

Brilliant..!! :)

This book was great! At first it was slow and I didn’t really like it but after I got into it, I found it amazing! As I read Little Women I found myself in all the characters. Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy are all very relatable. I found struggle, happiness, and romance in Little Women. All those things made this an awesome book. I suggest you read it. You might think, it’s a classic, classics aren’t good, they’re slow and boring, they really aren’t. I suggest you read this book. It might get you hooked on classics like it did for me.

I’m on pg 220 and I’m already bored. I have 2370 pg in this book and I already hate it, take no affence author but, THIS IS A BORING BOOK!!!!!! It’s only about girls talking and is so boring.

This book is amazing I cried because they had no presents 🎁😓😓😓😓😓😓👿👿👿👿👿😥😥😥😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😢😩😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😤

I loved this family and all they brought to one another and us the readers.

Lots of spelling errors in this version.

This book gives you a view of the love and devotion and patience it takes to have a good, faithful life.

Hi I like this book

My new favorite book!! Every woman and man, little or big needs to read it!

If you don't have to read this book, then I do not recommend it. Thanks for your time.

I love this book! It's a classic that everyone should read! I wish they had us read this in my school!

I found this to be so much more enjoyable than I was expecting. I really liked it and got all caught up in the goings on of this family. I don't know how I missed reading it when I was growing up. I think the storyline was entertaining while also having several morals. After reading, I was left with a good feeling.

I laughed and cried way too much. Beautifully written, and I can't help but wish I was part of the March family. But feel as if I lived through every part of the story with them.

So very wonderful !! This is what our young people are missing - perfect read for family story night. Only wish I'd have read it so long ago- would have thought me a great deal of basic relational boundaries as well as understanding of the human spirit - would have saved my dear ones so much pain.

A delightful book. I had read it as a child but that was so many, many years ago it was like new. At first it seemed rather slow and boring, and so old fashioned and I wondered why I had loved it when I was young.....and then I got into it. I loved it. And I think as an older adult I saw many things I overlooked as a child. More depth to it. The old classics are well worth reading again!!

Hate it so bad

I was going to give it 3.5 but I rounded because there is no such option and 3 is to harsh... I mean it is a good book, well written, but I have a feeling that it is just a classic because it was written 200 years ago. Just a regular romance book, nothing special. The language is really good, and I enjoyed reading it.

This is one of my absolute favourite books of all time! It is a must-read that people across the world can relate to.

ITS WAY TOO LONG there were way too many pages and its only about women why is it so long

Personally, being at a very young age, even I can enjoy this book even while surrounded by all of the games and other fun, brain-demolishing items. This is a book for everybody. Though it may be long, it never loses a reader's attention. In my opinion, this is one of the best books to read, since it is all-around. At first, there is adventure and happiness. Then there is sadness and death. Finally, romance and more joy come into play. To all of the illiterate people who have no idea how great this novel is: You either do not like books at all, or you are a desolate person. I suggest this book to anyone who has patience to see its outcome.

Everyone should have this book on their phone

I will never be so proud and happy of anything as this beautiful book that describes the life of The March family. From dear old Mr. March to little dear Amy. I've read this book five times already and never seem to become tired of it😍💙📕

Excitement: A word Louisa May Alcott did’t know the meaning of.

At first I really didn't get it, but as the story went on it got better. All of the characters are very in depth and intuitive, and the story is extremely through.

I love this book all of the mysteries and exit meant I love it

I love this book it is one of my favorites. Classic!😃

If I could grow to be half the woman as any of the Marches, I'd be happy with that. Wonderful lessons on life, love, and being a woman, that I believe this world could sorely use.

I love this book! It was so interesting and addictive I read the whole book in a week or two. My favorite character is Jo. This book has two parts. Part one was fun to read. Four girls living happily together everyday. Part two had a different air to it. More melancholy, mature, more "lovering" as the author calls it. But I loved it just as much as the first. It made me cry when Beth... well, I will let you read the book. I highly recommend it!

This book was very touching, I definitely recommend reading it.

This book was horrible never read it. It is the worst book ever. I would rather read a documentary than this book. Please do not read it is a waste of time

I loved this book it's full of action and mystery I really recommend it!!!

I think this book was fantastic ! The author described everything so well, it feels like you are in the story while it's going on! This author is one of my favorite author ever, but this book is my favorite . It teaches a great lesson and this book might even be a good influence on kids! I think you will love this book! I can't wait to read the others

It is impossible to count how many times I have read this book over five decades. I am deeply moved every single time. There is purity in the story of Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. While a tad thick with sentiment and roses, the characters are true to the story and the lessons offered are as gentle as Beth’s touch, as deft as Marmee’s, wise as Jo’s and rich with dignity and purpose. There are a few three-hankie moments but, more importantly, there are moments when one is part of an intimate understanding between friends and lovers, participant in life’s most common journeys and left feeling as if goodness will be enough. When you are done, find Little Men and Jo’s Boys.

I loved it it is my most favorite book and the best I've read

From the beginning I loved the book. Every point I stopped to take a break I couldn't help but to think about it. It's one of the best books I've read and I have read a lot of books.

I wish I hadn't waited 60 years before reading this! It's delightful, engaging and a gentle teacher.

Bittersweet story with love and sorrow at every turn😌😌😌😢😄

good book to read go by

I really like this book

This is amazing, and this is from an 11 yr old, my fave girl is Jo, just like me!!

I thought this book was completely outstanding! Just about every page there was different emotions. Your excited, sad, confused, happy and many more emotions. I will have my children read it one day. Completely different and emotional. I give it a 5!

Not a good book for men

This is such a good book- especially for grades 6 and up!!!

This book is great but it's sad when Beth dies. I cried. Trying to get my BFF to read this book. She is 35 and so I am cause we were friends since we were 6 so that's 29 years of friendship. Sorta like the little women minus the fact we aren't sisters. U must read Rick Riordan.

All I can say is if you are a Christian read Louisa May Alcott's books every day.

An uplifting read, supports the divinity and importance of family life with humor and elegance. I feel every woman should read this book and reflect on the type of impact she wants to leave upon the world.

The first time I read this book was in the 1st grade when I stumbled on a copy on my parent's bookshelf. Since then I have read and reread this book and each time I fall in love with it more and more. This book describes the lives of women in such a relatable way and is beautifully written.

this is one of the best books I have ever read even though it is a long one or is very good. at the end it is very touching with the girls talking to one another. And when jo refused Laurie I thought that he was gonna die. Then with Amy in France and all. He just fell in love but didnt realize it. And the part with Jo and Mr.Baher it was also touching and chapter 46 where Jo cried because he was leaving and he said that it was good and he proposed to her in the rain. And then when aunt march died and left plumfield to Jo that was nice. this book deserves all five stars

I read this book for the first time in second grade, seen the movie countless times and have reread the book some years later. This book demonstrates love, loss, romance, and hope and it is a book that I will cherish for eternity. It will always have a place on a bookshelf in my home.

My new favorite book. Alcott gives vivid descriptions of characters and their bonds which makes Little Women seem more relatable, even though it was written in the 1800s. Little Women delved into the personal world of four sisters and their family and friends, allowing Alcott to present a story from different points of view and express every emotion, making this book even better. It's long, but definitely worth the read!

An amazing book, I didn't know that a married life existed for the sisters. I've only read the abridged versions.
Louisa May Alcott - Little Women Comments
Louisa May Alcott (; November 29, 1832 – March 6, 1888) was an American novelist, short story writer, and poet best known as the author of the novel Little Women (1868) and its sequels Little Men (1871) and Jo's Boys (1886). Raised in New England by her transcendentalist parents, Abigail May and Amos Bronson Alcott, she grew up among many well-known intellectuals of the day, such as Margaret Fuller, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.Alcott's family suffered from financial difficulties, and while she worked to help support the family from an early age, she also sought an outlet in writing. She began to receive critical success for her writing in the 1860s. Early in her career, she sometimes used pen names such as A. M. Barnard, under which she wrote lurid short stories and sensation novels for adults that focused on passion and revenge.Published in 1868, Little Women is set in the Alcott family home, Orchard House, in Concor....
