Love and Other Words

Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren Book Summary

After a decade apart, childhood sweethearts reconnect by chance in New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren’s touching, romantic novel Love and Other Words…how many words will it take for them to figure out where it all went wrong?

The story of the heart can never be unwritten.

Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.

But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother...only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.

Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.

I loved reading this story.

this is genuinely one of the best books i’ve ever read. if you’re thinking about reading it, stop and just read it. trust me

Nice story. Tragic and lovely. A lot of back and forth. Almost a little too much would be my only thing. It seemed the two main characters got annoying towards the middle but the ending was good and tied it altogether so I ended up liking them.

I finished this book in literally one night after searching high and low to find it in stores, only to find out it’s sold out everywhere in my city…and for good reason!! This book is SO good. The alternating timelines make it impossible to stop reading it, and it’s so well written that you don’t mind reading more. Ms. Lauren you have outdone yourself!

It’s currently 4 in the morning and i just finished this book in two days. Honestly it’s pretty good and i can tell I’ll read it again in a couple months. Spoiler —- Unpopular opinion: Elliot is kind of the worst tho………

I cried! And the love between them is just so pure it’s insane🥰

All of her books are a great read! This one was hard to put down.

I read this in one day! Loved the main characters and their love story. It made me laugh, cry and so happy!

Love the back and forth with past and present! Hooked from the start

Their books are my absolute favorite, and this might be their best.

While this is a good story, it is not your typical Christine Lauren book. There is no light-hearted banter. I don’t think a book has ever ratcheted up my anxiety quite like this one.

It’s hard to balance sincerity without tipping over into syrupy sweetness. This novel does both, in the youthful and grown up timelines. Highly recommend

This book is just everything! It’ll make you smile, cry, laugh, and make you feel good. Such a sweet, nostalgic story.

LOVED THIS BOOK!!

Great book

*subtle spoiler* I have to say, this book really took me by surprise. I did NOT expect most of the events that were revealed at the end of the story. The book is split alternating between the past and present, which gives an interesting twist to how the story plays out. I loved Macy and Elliots beginning and how it came about, but man the crazy twist that is revealed broke my heart. And then the author swooped in and picked up the pieces and glued them all back together. I do wish though, that there was a little more on their life afterwards. The writing was good, you could really feel the emotions between the characters. Character Development wasn’t as good as other books I have read, but it works for this sweet story. please read! You might cry, I did, multiple times.

After reading many of the entertaining series by CL I was pleasantly surprised to find this sweet story...becoming invested in Macy’s journey and then Elliots too. Intermittent flashbacks helped unfold the parallel between the teen and adult love story perfectly. And I appreciated the depth to the main characters in that they were all relatable. I too felt the book went too quickly-a compliment to the writing.

This was my 3rd book from these authors... and I enjoyed this as much as the other two I’ve read. I’m a fan of past/present read. The pull of it. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and could not put my phone down.

I loved this book, I cried so hard at the end, it has been a while since I read a book that had good romance and emotions like this.

I couldn’t put this book down! It was endearing and comical and a perfect story filled with young love and loss. A must read!

I typically love all books from this author, but this is by far the worst book from them.

I have read many of these authors books. Many funny and sexy but this story was sweet and heart warming. Bring your tissues

Loved this book from the first page....Christina Lauren- never disappoints!

My second book to read by these two authors. A good read but Roomies is still IT for me. Talented and imaginative writers for sure.

I delayed reading this book, i always like savorying a clo book and if i read it right away...I’ll get sad it’s over to quick. Even so, it was over to quick!! The characters and, as always, the dialog are funny and real and perfect. I should warn you i did tear up and/or cry through 70% of the book. I think it’s a testament to the writers that i am easily invested in the characters and touched on a personal level by the story. For fans of the beautiful series there is bit of a player (Will) vibe to this love story. Enjoy!

Awesome book I loved it so much these authors never ever fail they always deliver a great read ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the way it jumped back and forth from past to present. I will miss these characters.

This is my first Christina Lauren but won’t be my last. I love when I stubble across new authors. The store of Elliot and Macy was a story of friendship, love, angst, insecurity, death, life family and destiny. This book checked all of the books leaving me wanting more and leaving me believing in soulmates. I love when I have a book hangover.

Love and Other Words is Christina Lauren’s next epic romance! I have read all of this duo’s books and have loved each and every one of them. I will say that this book has a different feel than the others. It’s not full of hotness but sexy. It’s definitely not paranormal. It’s just different. More. Eleven years. It’s had been eleven years since Macy had seen the boy that was once her everything. Now, he was standing in front of her, asking her to give him a chance. A chance to catch up. A chance to be friends. A chance to show her that he never forgot about her. Their weekends. Their summers. Their friendship. Their love. She never forgot any of it. She still thought about their time together but should couldn’t go there. She was engaged... After seeing Elliot, she feels raw. Her feelings were all over the place. He wasn’t just a boy anymore. He was a man. A man who didn’t hide his feelings. A man who she still loved. A man who could hurt her all over again. Then there was Sean, her fiancé. The first man she felt something for since Elliot. She has to question herself...is she truly happy with her life or is she comfortable? She thought she had the answers until he showed up. Elliot and Macy’s story will bring you back to where it all began. To their first moment. Their awkward teen years. Their fallout. It also will bring you to their present. Can two people who were once each other’s everything just be friends? Can they get over the past? What will happen when the truth all comes out? I loved this story. It’s adorable. It’s sexy. It’s sweet. It’s heartbreaking. It’s beautiful. Elliot is so freakin’ yummy!! He reads. He plays a sport close to my heart. Romantic. Intelligent. He doesn’t hide his feelings. He puts them out there. Macy is beautiful inside and out. Strong. Intelligent and is also a bookworm! I just love them together. Their story is what second chance romances are all about! P.S. I want her library! Also, I live in Santa Rosa so it was so fun to see the area in a book. Real places that my family visits. Quotes: “If there’s anyone I have to prepare for, it’s you.” “Favorite word?” “I made Elliot bring Imodium with us when we went to see the Backstreet Boys, because I was having tummy troubles.” “The embarrassing part of that,” he says, “is that I went to see Backstreet Boys.” “No,” I correct him, “the embarrassing part was that I caught you dancing.” He acknowledges this with a little flicker of his eyebrows. “I had moves.” I laugh. “Yes. Movement is the only way to describe what you were doing.”

The format of the book moving between the two timelines provided an interesting story and was easy to follow. I enjoyed Marcy and Elliot as a couple, just wish the ending was discussed a bit more. Seemed to be wrapped up quite quick and didn’t address the trauma she went through.

Seriously such a beautiful love story. It’s depth had me laughing and crying, and totally invested in Macy & Elliot’s return to each other. ❤️

Between past and present you fall in love with them.
