The Wrong Girl by C.J. Archer
The Wrong Girl by C.J. Archer Book Summary
REVIEWS:
"This is one of my favourite books I’ve read this year... I can’t praise it enough... The real stand out for this was the writing and the character voice." ~ The Moonlight Library
"The writing in The Wrong Girl was beautiful. There were so many quotes that I wanted to write down, and keep... The world building, and the plot drew me in from the get go, and didn’t falter until the last sentence." ~ Books For A Delicate Eternity
"This was one fantastic read! A really fascinating story which I couldn't put down, so this is easily a 5 stars." ~ Tea Party Princess
DESCRIPTION:
It's customary for Gothic romance novels to include a mysterious girl locked in the attic. Hannah Smith just wishes she wasn't that girl. As a narcoleptic and the companion to an earl's daughter with a strange affliction of her own, Hannah knows she's lucky to have a roof over her head and food in her belly when so many orphans starve on the streets. Yet freedom is something Hannah longs for. She did not, however, want her freedom to arrive in the form of kidnapping.
Taken by handsome Jack Langley to a place known as Freak House, she finds herself under the same roof as a mad scientist, his niece, a mute servant and Jack, a fire starter with a mysterious past. They assure Hannah she is not a prisoner and that they want to help her. The problem is, they think she's the earl's daughter. What will they do when they discover they took the wrong girl?
A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
When I set out to write the Freak House series, I wanted to put my own spin on the Gothic novels of the Victorian era. I've always loved their creepiness, the secrets, and the romance too, but I wanted to see the story from the perspective of the character that is often present but never the heroine - the girl kept in the attic.
I hope you'll enjoy this trilogy as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Wrong girl. Wonderful entertaining! Have already read the second book and just downloaded the third. Love the period writing and the whole story line.
Amazing. This book truly draws you into the story. There were twists and things you really weren’t going to see coming. It was a great book.
The wrong girl. Awesome book could not put it down I really enjoyed reading it
Amazing. Love it 👍🏻
😍😍. This book took me on a roller coaster ride with all of the romance and mystery I absolutely love love love this book can't wait to read the rest of the series
Amazing. Love the book. Immediately getting the next one.
This book is amazing. This book is so good I am reading it again and I just finished it
Original read. The book had an interesting aspect to them being fire starters. I throughly enjoyed to read this book.
Excellent; I want more. I couldn't put it down, even attempting to keep reading while making dinner, winning myself a couple minor burns & small cuts. And lackluster reviews of said dinner. So, I literally suffered injury to myself & my pride to just keep reading. Definitely intriguing and the ending left me thirsty for more.
Couldn’t get into book. The basic premise of the book wasn’t grabbing my interest. I stopped around 1/3 into it. I’ve got loads of books, and don’t need to read this one.
Exciting and fun. I love love loved reading this book. It was fun and I loved that it was set in the Victorian era. The twists was exciting. There were times I couldn’t put it down. The poems that were in it were beautiful also
It was alright. I mean i liked it, i liked the story and all but the main girl was so noisy it was irritating. She was so DESPERATE to learn about jack’s past, like everyone was telling her its his privacy stop, but she just wouldn’t stop. That really irritated me because she’s our main character and I expected more of her than a noisy girl who thinks so much
The Wrong Girl. What a great read. Has you pulled in from the very beginning. Great plot and interesting characters.
Blown away. Amazing style and a wonderful depiction of the times. Sensationally written with beautiful diction. I would give it a 4.5 if I could find the option. It has a distinct classical "Pride and Prejudice" feel to it, mixed with a sense of mystery and paranormality. Incredibly original and excitingly unpredictable. Near perfect.
The Wrong Girl. Captive, real characters, left me wanting more!
Amazing. So enchanting took a turn when I least expected it to
AMAZING. I couldn't put my iPad down while reading this book! Loved everything about it as well as the rest of the trilogy. I would recommend it to everyone.
Very Engaging!. This had me hooked from the first page! I kept wondering what was going to happen next through the entirety of this book. I still have questions now that I’ve finished it so I’m looking forward to reading #2 in the Freak House series!
The wrong girl !. This book, keep me wanting to read, keep me in suspense, and wondering what was going to happen next! Thank you so much, for a wonderful story!
This kept my interest and had me trying to read faster to find out what happened.. It was a great book
Great book. Wishing the ending would have given more answers, but the book was great. I wish there would have been more romance though I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series
Splendid. I throughly enjoyed this book and will be looking to collect more novels from this author, her writing is wonderful and the plot and settings are just up my alley.
Horrible. WHATEVER YOU DO DONT READ THIS BOOK YOU WILL READ THINGS YOU CANT UNREAD
❤️LovE. I first read the sample of this book and fell in love! Then I got the book and loved it even more! I am a teenager on my mothers account. I say this book is a wonderful mix of drama & mystery!
The wrong girl. EXCELLENT
Fun read. This was a fun and fast paced read. I did take off a star since the book was overly predictable. I don't normally read gothic romance, so it was different enough that I enjoyed it anyway. The prose was solid and the characters fairly engaging. I enjoyed it enough that I will be buying the sequel.
!!!😍😍😍😍!!!!!. I love it! I wish the second and third books were free or I would have never got off of iBooks until I finished them.
👍🏼😱👍🏼. It was AMAZING!!!! SPEECHLESS!!!!✌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Interesting Read. It has a slow star so give it some time. Great read overall!!!
The Wrong Girl. I Really Enjoyed this book! I hate it was free but the others u have to pay for so as soon as I can I guess I’ll purchase them cause I’m hooked!
GOOD BOOK☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️❤️. I love this book because it is mysterious🧐🕵🏻♀️ it’s not scary but I ❤️ it so thank you for doing this for us!!!☺️🤗
Book. What a good book
Amazing. I really enjoyed this read it really drew me in and I’m looking forward to reading the next book!!
The wrong girl. Enjoyable reading but the end just happened out of nowhere. A big disappointment.
Great way to spend an afternoon. Unusual story, very entertaining and magically descriptive.
Excellent book. This is an amazing book I literally showed this book to all my friends
Question!. This was a pretty good book, (just a little more romance would've been nice), however, the girl on the cover looks identical to the girl on the cover of Forbidden by Amy Milles (I think that's how it was spelled) and I was just wondering why.
Awesome👍♥️📚. My ten year old and I read this.It was such a great book but an unfinished ending.I still loved the plot twists and suspense this novel had to offer.
The wrong girl. I really enjoyed it!
The Wrong Girl. This book was pretty great. At first it wasn't too interesting, but once it gets to the later chapters it starts having different plot twists that are exciting to watch play out. If you're looking for a shorter paranormal book to read, I suggest this. Even though I would still likes some answers to this story, I might be fine just not knowing. But overall, it's a great book, there's also a little bit of tiny romance in it. 😏😘
Objectively bad book.. I stuck through so much of this book just needing to know what happened so I could go on with my life and got the world’s worst ending- to be expected from a book this cheesy and just outright bad.
Great read. Absolutely kept me hooked left me wanting to read more love the setting the era and its mysterious thrill read other books from CJ Archer she's a crafty writer
Keeps you reading. Pretty good book, definitely kept me reading it until the end. However it does seem to get a bit repetitive towards the end. But worth a read!
Hate it. I don't like it.... one the author ripped off the cover of the book from the first book in the Atoras series which it Rosaline dragomire in the Atoras serious by Amy miles, and I just don't like the book I don't like the story I wish I could rate it with negative stars but I have rated it with one.
AMAZING. this is my favorite book of all time
Good book. The story captured and held my attention though not many questions were answered at the end.
The wrong girl. It was pretty good but left me hanging
Fascinating!. A real page turner. Left me wanting to know more. Can’t wait to read on!
Could Not Put It Down. This was a great book. From the moment I began reading I could not wait to see what happened next. I will admit I get board easily with books but with this book I couldn’t wait to finish it. I also look forward to reading the next book!
A great story. I love the fantasy genre, but these days it’s hard to find anything that isn’t about vampires, werwolves, or witches. And even then, books written by inexperienced authors can often read like bad fan fiction. This was a refreshing change and a well written story. I read the full trilogy in a week. I did dock one star because I felt the romance between Jack and Hannah was a bit cheesy. No build to their relationship, they unrealistically fall immediately into love without really knowing each other. Jack came off as needy and obsessive. Felt like a romance story for teenagers. The rest of the story was delightful though.

Good. An interesting read that was surprising at how it turned out. Fast reading
Bait n switch. Nothing detracts from my enjoyment of a story more than finding out it's just a lengthy intro sample. It should clearly state this at the beginning so as not to surprise the reader that has invested hours into the story. I deliberately do not buy stories from authors that make this a common practise. I do respect, and buy, from authors that clearly define the selection as just a sample or intro.
The wrong girl. Enjoyable! Refreshing and intriguing. I look forward to more in the series.
One of her best books yet! :D. C.J. Archer just keeps getting better and better with every book, I've watched her style develop as time goes by & I'm looking forward to her next book with relish! She has such original ideas & puts them down onto the pages in a way you find it difficult to put the book (or ebook in my case) down. I'm happy to support this upcoming, talented Aussie author.
Great book. Such exciting storyline, her best yet!
Great read!. Very hard to put down. Loved it so much I have decided to purchase the next in the series. Keep the good work coming!
Great read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and are looking forward to the next one. Great concept, enjoyable writing.
Great read!. Love this book.
Great read. .
The Wrong Girl. CJ Archer 1Y. The Wrong Girl 6/10 Free iBook. First in a trilogy. Not asking the obvious important questions when they have opportunity is repeated fatal storyline flaw. Hannah is kidnapped after spending her first 18 years locked in the attic with the Earl's daughter Violet, who spontaneously and uncontrollably starts fires. Hannah herself suffers from narcolepsy (falls suddenly sleep in times of stress). She is very attracted to Jake who is also a fire starter, and it turns out she is actually the fire starter, but everyone lied to her about it. Why does Mr Langley and his ex-business partner want her? Story doesn't end. Meh.
LOVED IT!!!!. Great book with relatable characters and a good plot. Now I have to buy the next two!
Well written. Well written, it kept me intrigued and interested right to the end. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series
The wrong girl. Loved it. Can't wait to read the next book
Nice. Nice
Great book. Thoroughly enjoyed
The Wrong Girl. I’ve been looking for something different and unpredictable to read lately. The Wrong Girl is different but it lacks the depth in the characters and the plot. That made the story very predictable and I’m disappointed about that. To build up suspense, one needs to lay hints along the way of story telling, not simply showing the readers a girl with temper who was suspicious of everyone around her. Overall, 4/5 for the idea.
Love it!. Brilliant book which I couldn't put down. Such a good story and amazing characters. Enjoyed reading it a lot so now I'm up to purchase the second one of the trilogy.
The wrong girl. Such a fantastic book. I couldn't keep my head out of it! It does get a bit lovey though and it is a titch confusing at times. I'm only eight and I love it!
Lacking. The characters were sadly wooden. Felt the story could have been amazing in the hands of a better writer.
The Wrong Girl. This book is exceptional.
An interesting read. I enjoyed the writing style and everything about the scenes and storyline... until the last chapter. The last-minute jolt to the supporting characters was confusing to me and felt like it took away from how the greater story could have resolved.
Really appreciated her writing skills. First time I have read her work and was very impressed with her writing skills. Looking forward to reading the next two Mark
Great read. Already reading the second ..
Just starting reading and this book really did keep me wanting to read more Thank you. It kept me gripped throughout can’t wait to read the next two Buddha
The Wrong Girl. I thought that this was a great wee book, it is full of suspense and intrigue, and would recommend it to my friends and family. Loved it.
The wrong girl. I found it a very good book and I enjoyed it very much
Ok. Took a while to get in to it if I'm honest ... Normally love reading this genre of books haven't finished it yet though but will keep at it ..!
Interesting and a page turner. It's interesting and suspenseful. I enjoyed reading it but it's not like a 'must read'.
Excellent!!. I read it all the way through non-stop - just couldn't put the book down.
Brilliant, sad when I got to the end. Loved reading this book, which captured me from page 1. Intriguing storyline, so well written, the characters and scenes just came to life perfectly. Genuinely, I couldn't put it down, stayed up much later than good for me, having read it in just 3 nights! Thank you for a great book, worth the lost sleep, really look forward to reading the sequel to answer my outstanding questions :-)
Wrong girl. I liked and enjoyed reading this book but I often found it a little predictable. I would've also like for their to be more romance but I guessed that wouldn't work since its based in the Victorian era. I did however find it very interesting to read I only wish that we knew more about the what happens after the ending. I read the short story that subscribers get however I found that to not be very interesting as it didn't provide enough information. I do like the authors writing style and think that they are unique stories but I was thirsty for more information that wasn't provided. Though this book isn't a must read, can't put it down kind of book I did enjoy it and found that it interesting especially with all the quirks that kept on happening in the story though they're some boring buts the story really captures your interest in places and one I would recommend as well as the author.
The wrong girl- 4.5 stars. Was amazing, definitely recommend; full of action and twists
Laura. The most captivating book I have read in years x
Age. Can a 12 year old read this ?
Brilliant. Loved this book, couldn't put it down. Hooked from start to finish. Will be getting the entire series.

Good book. Overall, I did like the book. I did feel as though things were drawn out a bit. But I did read all 3 books and I'm glad I did. You do get all of the answers in the end.
The Wrong Girl. Such a good book!
Didn't care if I finished or not.. I found myself not that interested. Disjointed dialogue and under described scenes made it hard to follow and picture. The story was not very interesting. No romance, no ending. I won't read the remainder of the series.
Ehhh. It was alright. Wish more romance. Probably won't read other books.
The wrong girl. Hi my name is: Amy Jo smith and I'm just wanting to say that this was one of those books that keep you hanging you know how it's called the wrong girl well for me this is the wrong book in my opinion
Great story!. I really enjoyed the book. Quick read too. I was able to complete the book within a few hours. The ending is not strong enough to have me buy the next two books. Perhaps another time....
Great book. Wishing the ending would have given more answers, but the book was great. I wish there would have been more romance though I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series
Well written story!. Loved the story as well as the writing. I could see some plot twists coming from a mile away, but it was equally entertaining to know ahead of time and see how the events unfolded in the book. It wasn't frustrating or slow to read at all. Characters were interesting, and although the premise seemed odd and a bit "out there" (I'm not a paranormal fan very much) it didn't read like a supernatural suspense. It can be read as a stand alone, or you can choose to read the next book in the series to see how the characters will develop, which I find refreshing. I dislike books that leave too much of a cliff hanger at the end. It's not a "romance novel" and shouldn't be classified or judged on those qualities. It does have a love interest that will hopefully develop in the next books. Overall, it's a book I would definitely recommend. I highly enjoyed it!
Wrong Girl. Worst book I ever read
Amazing book!. This book was phenomenal in my opinion! I'm on my mothers account but I'm 14, and a very picky girl when it comes to books! This book made me irritated when someone wanted me to stop reading! It's that amazing!!! Thank you so much for writing this!
