Caught up in the politics of the vampire world, psychic Sookie Stackhouse learns that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human in this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series—the inspiration for the HBO® original series True Blood.

With her knack for being in trouble’s way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte’s, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover, Eric Northman, and his “child” Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot—which is much more complicated than she knows...

Disappointed. I love this series so much. When I try to recall this book, my mind draws a blank. It's like oh okay. Now there's a problem with her and Eric because of appius. Great. Unmemorable and probably the least remarkable of the series.

TMcKinley

Love it. Love this series

Noresmen24

Dead Reckoning. I am sad to say I was disappointed. My least favorite of them all:(

Sophiasgrace

Read this, you won’t regret it!. My favorite book series ever! I have read them all at least ten times !

Sam_sic

:). GREAT!! :)

ToxicJake

Ready for the next book!. Great book, but not the best. If you're a fan of the series it is a must read, however it left me wanting.

Angles5

Dead reckoning. Not a bad book. Wish she would write more sooner. No sooner I start them than I am finished

Mh:(

Disappointing. Good books need endings. This book did not really have one, it ends almost in mid-scene. It feels like author and publisher rushed to put out a book to make money.

Pepperann78

Huge fan of the series. I'm not sure how I feel a out this one... It seams to me that the books are getting cleaner...sorry I like that raunchy the books use to have. Also I'm not sure I like the ending... If your a fan though your like it for what it is...

Karma624

Dead reckoning. I have loved this series from the beginning. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I gave myself a break from the series because I thought Harris had lost her touch. I wasn't wrong. This book is deadweight. The spark and excitement is gone from Sookie's story. What we are left with is a story about what a telepath loves to eat and watch on TV. We never see her hang out with the nonexistent boyfriend let alone get the feeling that she supposedly still loves him. What happened to the girl who fought for everything and actually had some balls? Ms. Harris just needs to finish this story. Bury Sookie where she can RIP. Sorry I wasted my time buying and reading this book. I'm glad Ms. Harris has finished the last book! I know this sounds harsh but for all the diehard Sookie fans, you will hopefully agree with my assessment!

SmilingJade

What a disappointing ending. I expected more as to what Sookie would do with Eric and what becomes of their relationship.,

Flee2108

Love love love it. Loved it!

LittleDoogers

Love this series!!. Idk why so many negative reviews! I enjoyed!!

ElaineeS

Good read!. As author of the Hypnotic Journey Series, Book I Forbidden Quest. I love a strong female character! This book was fun and inventive! A good read for fantasy and romance fans!

Crustyyyy

Good. It was very good.

Hayley OHA

Dead Reckoning. What an excellent read! Just leaves you wanting more!

Dead in the Plot. Dead in the Emotion. Dead End.. Who in the world let this go to print? There is always scattered periods of mundane day to day chores or conversations in CH's books, but the lull always has a tension release effect. It was mostly lull and minimal release. She built her characters so beautifully only to tear their " essential spark" out? I am shocked. Sookie had always felt like a refreshing character, now she is completely unbearable. What in the world was that scene with Alcide? Eric and Sookie had no spark, come to think of it all the characters are completely watered down. Writing is an art you have to be inspired and it felt like her publishers put unreasonable time constraints resulting in this subpar love child. I will forever be a fan, but I struck this book from memory. Charlene some times you have to replace your wishbone with a back bone.

Mishkort

Can't wait until the next one.. Like all the other books I could not put it down until I was done. And then mad it was over. Can't wait for the next one.

Appelanzi

Just as captivating!. I enjoyed this book as much as most of the others. Although I'm not glued to the series, I very much want to know what happens next. This one was a little slow to start but picks up midway. I will wait for the next now...

Winteriss

love it as always. I am never let down by this series. Keep them coming

Aleletty

Entertaning. Absolutely loved this story line. It's a great in between fix from the True Blood Show.

Blb001

Are u kidding charlaine!. I really enjoyed this series up until dead reckoning. Boring boring at best! This novel is the perfect example of FALLING DOWN ON THE JOB..... Advice for charlaine make sure you put your thinking and imagination hat on before cranking out the next installment!!! WHAT A LET DOWN!!!!

Rossie24

Great book!. The book was great enjoyed it very much so, maybe snookie can get her life back.

Lruzics

Dead Reconing. I only read these books for Bill and he's barely around, hence the 3. Prediction: Sookie will end up with Sam which is fine by me and have a somewhat normal life with children and community; anyone but Eric.

Skokie Stackhouse

Dead reckoning. charlaine Harris has done it again. the storyline is captivating and the charcters are described so vividly you feel as if you are sitting on your back porch with glass of iced tea watching it all planning in your own backyard. I would defy ugly recommend reading this book. Skokie Stackhouse has done it again...

What'sthebigdeal?

Sookie stackhouse series. Love love love these books, I just can't get enough.

Emilyk81

Harris seems to have lost her stride. Let me start by saying I love these books. However, both this one and Dead In The Family left a bad taste in my mouth. The Sookie character feels off in some way. Maybe that is meant to reflect the trauma she has been through, but it felt more like the work of a ghostwriter to me. I read the book (and read ALL of it, unlike a lot of these reviews I have seen), and I felt very unsatisfied by the plot and characters. A whole lot of pages for not a lot of plot or personality. That being said, I gave it 3 stars because of my affection for the series, and plan on rereading it to see if I might have been too harsh on it.

Bobbi_1025

On the fence. Let me just say I have ALWAYS loved this series (I even have a dog named Sookie). Having said that, I can't stand it when authors get to the end of a book or series especially and make up some magical out for the main character to use for an ending they can tie the ends into a sweet little bow cause they ran out of creativity for the end game. Ok now that I have vented the writing was good I read the book in 1 day and while I look forward to the next, I don't know if I'm gonna name my next pet Eric or Pam :(

Victoria.B

Dissappointed. I am a huge fan of the series and i have loved the series up untill now ... A huge let down I wanted to put the book down not even half way through... But I read it untill the very end.... I hope the next installment in the series will be way better than this one

Laura Lavergne

Good but not satisfying. I've loved most of the Sookie Stackhouse series, but the ending of this one just felt way way to abrupt. It was like the author decided to draw out 1 story into 2 stories to try to get the most out of it. Normally I'm understanding of this sort of thing...but there was NO emotional ah ha moment for me to carry me through to the next book. I don't want to spoil it for readers, but I would highly recommend waiting to read it ...at least until the next book comes out. I'm hoping the next one will be better...the past 3 have progressively let me down further each time. I like where the plot is going...but feel instead of trying to cram so many different plots into it and just glossing over them, it would be way better to focus more and really build the emotional tension. For instance I love Eric, but I feel he going from a multidimensional character to a one dimensional ghost in the background. Yet by the end of the book the author seems to want the reader to care about this tension b/w him & Sookie...and I just can't bring myself to care...a REALLY bad sign for emotional/character development.

Rhubb

Great series. I love the characters and the story in the series. This book had a slow start, then picked up just in time for the end. I wanted one or two more chapters. It was not as good as the previous books, it was like a filler - a story that needs to be told so the next book can happen.

Missy_robinson12

Rating book u have not read??. Stop reviewing books that u have not even read the point of a review is on THIS book. I am so tired of seeing OOHH I love CH I can't wait to read I give this 5 stars-- so juvenile. This series has gone down hill each book since True Blood came out. It is obvious by the TB series that the storyline integrity is not an issue with CH and it is showing up in the books now. This will b the last Sookie book I read a shame since it started with such passion. I am glad LKH stuck to her guns when they wanted to make an Anita TV series and then tried to change it. She thought of Anita first not $$$$$$$ and shut down the whole project.

Tara K. T.

Dead Reckoning. I have been a huge fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series. This by far is the worst book I have read in the series. The story wasn't developed and it felt like Ms Harris wrote the book for a paycheck. The book has sullied the series and I'm very disappointed.

Jrunn

J. Just as good as the rest.

Allison Curtis

Dead Reckoning. A classic sookie stack house adventure-entrancing, heart-racing and leaves you wanting more. Charlaine Harris has done it again.

MotosM8

Dead Reckoning. Fangtastic! Couldn't put it down and can't wait for the next one.

Dxchjb ccc wsdt

Eh.... All in all, these books were a good read, but the ending left a lot to be desired.

Luce420

Disappointed. I've been a fan for a long time and this was the first disappointment. I hope she can get the ball rolling again or just stop writing. Guess episodes of True Blood will have to do for now.

Demetrula

This is the Sookie book to skip.... Every series author seems to have at least one book that is unworthy. This book is definitely the one to skip in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Normally it's hard to put down a Sookie book, but this is the one you will consider putting down frequently, and then keep reading in the hopes of some excitement (that never arrives). Unfortunately, it's a waste of time and money. I could have bought 7 episodes of True Blood instead...

KTB@75@64

Disappointed. I have enjoyed most of the books in this series and was excited to read this book. Unfortunately, I found the story weak and uninteresting - and short! After I read the book, I honestly could not identify one scene or storyline that held my interest or provoked any emotional reaction. It seemed like a filler book written more to generate revenue rather than to tell a good story. If I were Ms. Harris, I would be embarrassed. Many readers spent good money for a less-than-satisfactory experience.

Fleur de Leigh

Dead Reckoning. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Had read some negative reviews about it which I found unwarranted. Good read as usual from Charlaine Harris.

Btoups

Love It!!!!!. Typical Charline Harris....sheer awesomeness!!! A brilliant writer, that I simply cannot get enough of!!

Mesmokie

IDK. I really dislike the way this book end!!! Seems like we are being set up for sookie and bill crap again gosh really! I mean is the writer just milking it now for the money or will there eventually been an ending to the series seems to start feeling a bit drown out there has to be a conclusion to the whole series at some pointy. Don't get wrong I love reading these books but I feel the story if becoming dried & a bit repetitive of nonsense I believe the series needs to be concluded

Melanie.parker26

Loved it!. Can't wait for the next one!

Myrlovely

Wonderful. I loved it! In fact I read it too fast and I always do this to myself because now I have to wait for the next one! I read all the Sookie Stackhouse novels and love true blood.

Safrin Falcoun

Simply Good. I have been a pretty big fan of the other books. This book was good but not the page turner the other books were. I am still glad I read it but left feeling a little deflated like something was missing.

Darkfleabe

Um what did I just read. I have always loved this series but honestly this book felt so below par. I know chars can only really go so far and this book supported that feeling. It's almost like it was written just so another book would be in the shelf.

Jlum22

Mediocre book. The book was entertaining, but I didn't feel much happened. But since I've read all the previous books, I had to read this one too.

Yazm1980

Dead reckoning. I love this series!! Pls don't make Sookie go back to Bill! Eric and Sookie feel like a perfect match!! More scenes with Eric and Sookie pls!!

Timespace

Dead Reckoning. Just another exciting adventure for Sookie; doubt Sookie sees it my way. These books get better and better!

Dead reckoning. A bit of a let down. It's to short.

MrsReed

A bit of a let down. After the disappointment that was Dead in the Family, I was really hoping this book would get back to the elements that ,made the series so fantastic. I this this lacked the humor, gutsy-ness, and sexiness of the first coupe of books. I wished Sookie had been more decisive and had tied up a few loose ends instead of leavin her immature.

Cheat guy222

Dead Reckoning. Like literary crack!! Just makes me want more. Charmaine Harris just makes it so real and compelling and so funny in parts. Write faster please!

Cactusmom3

Worth it to fill in unanswered questions.. Loved the book, to quick of a read though left me wanting more. Lots of twists, turns and unexpected answers while leaving so much open for the next book. In order to stay caught up in Sookie's world this book is a must read.

Anymous reader

from bad to worse. i thought the last book in the series seemed to fall flat but now that i've read the latest installment i see that this one fell even flatter. not much of a plot here, no intrigue and very short.

Lwillia

Not great. This book seemed to lack a lot of story and was very short. I love the Sookie Stackhouse books, but this was pathetic in comparison to the others. It was predictable, barely anything with Eric, and overall boring. I kept waiting for the exciting ending that never came. I hope the next is better.

Rebecca Saltoon

Dead Reckoning. Charlaine Harris seemed to be rushing through this story. The plot was very thin and undeveloped. It appears she is using it more to set stage for her next novel. Overall I was very disappointed.

Reindeer

A set-up book. This is a book that sets up the story for the next book. It was okay, because so much was lest unfinished. Considering the cost of the ebook version, it wasn't a good value for the money in terms of satisfying entertainment. I hope there is more development in the next book, I could have lived without this book, but my curiosity won out,

Taesmom06

Loved it!. As usual, Harris delivers! Can't wait for the next book or the next season of True Blood.

Kaymedi

Just blah. I must say I was pretty disappointed with this book. The entire first half of the book seems to be written by someone other than Harris. Sookie's personality and colorful languaged managed to be dull at best. From mid book to end the personality came back, but Sookie just wasn't the same. I should have read the reviews. Save your money and wait for he price to drop. *****spoiler***** As I'm sure many people noticed the timeline of the Niall/Fae situation didn't match up to previous books. Also the charcter descriptions of both Bob and Dermot are inconsistent within the book. In previous books Dermot passed as Jason with no one being the wiser. In Dead Reckoning he was said to both look like Jasons twin but later that they looked a lot alike; however, after a few seconds you could see the difference. Sookie described Bob as being somewhat sexy when first seeing him with Amelia again and later her description was unflattering. Weird. The plot was jumbled with every character all at once. The Alcide scene...bizarre. Pelt was taken out so easily you wonder why she was practically invincible. Anyway, I was less than impressed.

Mary at

Dead in the family. I liked it. very much back to form for Charlene Harris. The last book had too much fairy and not enough romance. Here Harris gives us a story more like the original books, not as dark. The separation beginning between Eric and Sookie and the near rekindeling of the romance with Bill is som how comforting. I'm a BIG fan of Eric, but as Bill before him, we are seeing him in increasingly subservient situations. This lessens the sex appeal as it is based in his POWER which is lost when he has to bow to someone else. This is of course what happened with Bill proving that everyone has to answer to someone. I'm liking the fairy characters more ; here they add more to the overall story with their own story ark rather than seem imposed on the original story line as they started out. But I have the same question as I do for all the LONG book series: when will it end? The stories become more and more away from the original premis.

Madmom!

Fantastic, as usual!. Every time I read a book by Charlaine Harris, I am reminded that reading is fun! She has a unique talent, and anyone who has not read her books should treat herself to one--you will be happy you did. This one did not disappoint--it was wonderful, and I'm just sad that I finished it. Thank you again, Charlaine!

Sharly

I want more!. Can't wait for the next book in this series!

NYC SVMF

Thankfully a quick read .... It's ok, but a disappointment if you've read her previous books. Reads like it was done to complete a contract for the publisher with an unrealistic deadline. Not in the same league as her previous books, but probably ok for the beach or if you don't have anything better to read.

HannahKCW

DR Review. Didn't go anywhere. Unfocused. Lack of any movement or romance was unsatisfying. Too short. Lacked solid plotting; seemed scattershot (as if lack of plotting was covered by constant 'alligators thrown through transom' moments).

Jslabrat

Great. Great read!

Dev_L

Amazing as always. I love all of the Sookie Stackhouse series. Well done!

Betweenshades

Really?. The last two books feel like she's just writing these books to fulfill her contract. Nowhere NEAR the quality of the first 9. I'm sad :(

LinseyRae

Wonderful. That's all I can say. Charlaine Harris is such an amazing author. Always a twist and on the edge of your seat. You can't stop flipping pages. I Just love this series and Charlaine Harris...thank you for writing these and sharing such great work with us all!!!!

MamaNC Of 3

Charlaine got her groove back!. After book 10 was an epic fail, Ms. Harris has let go of trying to connect to the TV series and given us back our smart and sassy Sookie. Just enough steamy Eric and Bill but still lots of mystery to be explored! Kudos to Dead Reckoning!!

Melmc20

Worst one yet.... The ploy moved so quick and never really developed into anything. I was not impressed.

Ownageit

Amazing great. Although the book was short, it was another much anticipated read and I can't wait for the next one. Too many what if's and of course that hope that Eric and Sookie will live happily ever after!

TMyers36

Not her best..... I expected more. This book seemed like a filler; something that did not propel the characters further. I'm disappointed that I waited a year for this, and that I have to wait another year for the next one. Still, it was well written, as always, and I did enjoy it nonetheless.

BookFan40

Disappointed. For an 11th installment, this left many unanswered questions, some which haven't been addressed since early on in the series. Plot lines introduced were confusing & inconsistent with events from previous books. There was also this strange & highly offensive intro of religious intolerance, which for a book about vampires and full of violence, was distasteful & misplaced. Will most likely not be purchasing future installments.

Booklover29

Dead Reckoning. Loved the book! Ready for the next one!

Fecolagrossi

Lost her touch. I used to be addicted to Harris, but her last two sookie stackhouse books were terrible. A lot of running around, no real plot or action. Either Ms. Harris lost her touch or shes not even trying anymore.

01852

Another great read. Awesome Sookie book!

Jtmil

What is there a part two of book one. This book was really a disappointment and it was such a short read I expected a little more after book ten. The plot was not fluent with little excitement. I could go on forever with what I don't like but I did learn a lesson... If that was the best effort from Harris I am moving on and letting go off of my obsession with the great characters she created.... Now how can I get a refund???

Fathertime1906

Great!. Great continuation of the Sookie Stackhouse series! This is also setting up some things for future books. I can't wait for the next one"

Ryan52997

Dead reckoning. Wonderful and intriguing. Couldn't put it down.

YoAdrian!

Sookie book eleven. I loved this book. A lot of questions are answered. I've heard Ms. Harris is only going to write one more in this series. That makes me very sad! The way this book ties so many things together I can see how that is very possible. I so want Sookie and Bill to be together!!!!

JennMurphy

Ok. This was an ok read however I agree with other reviewers this was too short and seemed more like a filler book. I also didn't like how it ended things with more questions than answers. Overall though CH does a good job entertaining us again and I'm still a fan(which is why I gave it 4 stars but story wise 3.5 stars) although I'm hoping for a better read from her in the future as this started out as great series. Oh and FYI wait for it to get cheaper not worth the price for how short it was, and it being a filler ect.

Dwolf12

A little sad. Not a favorite. I am a huge fan but this one was a little disappointing. It ended with to much anticipation and confusion. I hope I don't have to wait another year to be let down again, especially with only two more books to go.

Vivian00

Same story different creatures. Obviously anyone reading this book has read the ones preceding it. If so, you'll be reading the same book over and over again. Sookie is in trouble, someone wants to get her, there's a big battle--with vampires in this one, but could be fairies or witches or were's--and some mystery is left to be revealed in the next book. Though Bill seems to b e coming back into favor. That's the god part.

Purpletjchick

Good but short. I liked it, but the book was short, i was done in no time. I did enjoy the fact it was eventful from start to finish

Beasley$$$$

Dead Reckoning. I really love Charlaine's writing and Sookie Stackhouse adventures. I look forward to her next book on her. I gave this one 4 stars because all the rest of them were 5 stars because I had to read too far into the story for an adventure to take place but was pleased once it got going. I especially like the fairy portal and would like to see more Fairy stories and more people that are good fairies. I just love love love Charlaine's writing. Bring on more please.

Katrachita02

Loved it!. Even if I somehow agree with what other reviewers are saying (Example: it fell flat.... The characters are a bit off... Yaddi Yadda Yadda), I still loved it! I loved the Sookie Stackhouse series and I definitely can't wait for September to come. But something that was off, though, was the whole Sookie-Eric relationship. It needed more—I don't know—heat? Fire? More scenes, I'll say, between the two. Otherwise, it's a good summer read! (:

Nicky Quad pay

Good start bad ending. The beginning of the book was good but the middle and ending got very sloppy and unorganized. Seemed to be rushed and under developed.

KY Trueblood

Loved the Book, Love Sookie. This comes from a true fan of Sookie and CH. The book was great! Anything I can soak up about Sookie's life - I want to know about it!! This book allowed us to go even deeper into Sookie's life while still promising much more!! Whoever suggests the series should end should bite your tongue!! Please keep it coming CH! Also glad to see Sookie's romantic interests may be expanding!! The only thing I was sad about was that it ended so soon. Once again a sign of a great book and author.

Ldsgir724

Gotta love Sookie!. Amazing book, as always! Harris delivers again. I am a happy camper!!

CjDrish

Another great book. I loved this one as much as the first! Can't wait or the next one!

Nikki--@

Not the best.. Normally I love her books but it ended abruptly and didn't have an engaging plot like all of the others. More than a little disappointed but still a fan.

Fireeeyez

Was that it?. I love Sookie!!! But I felt like the book was rushed. I've been waiting for this book and was sooo excited but left a bit disappointed! I will read the next one and hope it turns out better.

Jenna m C

Aweful. Dont waste your money.. What a waste of paper. I looked forward to this for a year?! Read JR Ward and you won't be disappointed! This series has become like scooby doo. Everything wraps in one episode and the only other character is the killer. I hope TrueBlood is better than this!!!!!!!!!!

Baldiguana

dead reckoning. I waited long for this book, and it was worth it...I couldn't put it down. So sad that it is over...can't wait to meet Sookie again in September ...till then :)

Madeline0318

I love sookie. Next book please. Love!!!!

TxBookGirl

Had to Read It Twice. Ok, so the first time I powered through the book I hated it. Now that I went back and reread all the books as well as this one, I like it. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because of the double Bill conversation. I do like the way CH is making Sookie & Eric's relationship more real. They don't have it perfect, and that's all right. I love this series, and I look forward to the next book.

SookFan

What the heck?. I love this series (I always buy the audiobook as well as a hard copy of her books)- However this duel purchase will be my last. I was soooo disappointed! It is PAINFULLY obvious that CH is dragging this series out for as long as possible. There was hardly a plot (Kill Victor- that's it? Seriously?). The rest of it was filler crap! I didn't think the series could get any worse after reading Dead in the Family, but I was so wrong! I saw where she has a "companion" book coming out & I had to laugh- Why do we need a companion book when over half of the books are flooded with fillers regarding past events (excessively I might add)? CH- i know this is your baby & it was an excellent series for a good while, but if you insist upon short books with no plots...then it's time to cut the cord, throw it in the coffin, and bury it. The only reason I'm not giving it one star is because I've been a fan for years.

Mohawki

Dead Reckoning. Hmmm. I'm not quite sure what to say about this book. I just finished it & I have this empty feeling. Not the usual 'Oh! I can't wait for the next book!' I not only love Sookie, I love the world she lives in and the people of Bon Temp. Where was Jason? Where were all the regulars? I didn't feel like I went to work with Sookie, at the bar like I usually do. And it seemed like everyones personalities had changed. It was like reading a strangers story. No one acted normal or like the characters in the previous Sookie books. The scene with Alcede was weird. Bill was odd. The Eric in this book is not the Eric of norm. The real Eric would never be forced into a relationship. Who are these people and what has Ms. Harris done with the real people of Sookie's world? I give it two stars 'cause I still love Sookie.

Pnypg

Dead Reckoning. Finally ! We get to hear Sookie s grandmother s side of her affair with Fintan !
