Loved it!. Loved reading Mia's story. As well as having mystery, intrigue and deception it was full of emotion. Another great Callaway family read. Highly recommend this book.

If I didn’t know better. I really liked this book until the female character displayed a total lack of ethics in releasing the art thief allowing him to accept employment with a security firm. Turning a criminal loose to prey on others does not absolve one of responsibility. That action was a total contradiction to the tone of the book making the character spineless and immoral. I will not be reading any other books by this author.

If I didn't know better. "If I Didn't Know Better" - Loved it!!! Angel Falls was my first time reading Barbara's books and I still love that town! I love this book!! Can't wait for the next Great Story!!

Loved the new Callaway cousins!. If I Didn't Know Better is the story of two people who have reached a fork in the road and have to decide which path to travel. Mia has recently left her job and her love behind and headed to Angel's Bay, the setting for another series of Barbara Freethy's books. She's there to clean out her beloved aunt's house, supposedly, but what she's really trying to do is find herself and I believe that she thinks that connecting with her aunt through her things that she might herself among the piles and boxes. Jeremy grew up in Angel's Bay but hasn't substantially returned until now. After finding himself the full-time caregiver of a daughter he didn't know about, he seeks the calm of Angel's Bay to help his daughter heal. To help himself heal. He is also trying to determine his future as an injury on duty with the military has derailed his future. Neither comes to Angel's Bay expecting to find love but that's what they find - love that starts on the roof of a house. I loved coming back to the Angel's Bay setting and catching up with a few characters, and meeting a few more that hopefully the author will tell us more about in future stories. As with most Barbara Freethy stories, there is a mystery element to this story. Hidden paintings, disgruntled neighbors, and mysterious break-ins all lead Mia to wonder what was going on with her aunt. The mystery drives Mia and Jeremy apart until a pivotal time, when Jeremy finally allows reason to rule over emotion and reaches out to Mia at just the time to save her from danger. The only negative I had was that the ending felt rushed. I felt the story was moving along at a good clip, clues to the mystery were being exposed, the relationship between Mia and Jeremy was growing and then, boom, villain shows himself, a bit of danger and then the mystery is solved. A quick epilogue followed and the book was basically OVER. It felt very abrupt rather than having the culprit revealed more slowly. The ending just felt a bit different than previous Barbara Freethy novels. Despite the abrupt ending, the story was otherwise well developed and well written. I love the peek back into the San Francisco Callaway family and loved started to get to know the other Callaways and look forward to their stories.

A sweet love story. I enjoyed reading Mia & Jeremy’s love story. It had a lot of holes in the plot, but overall the characters were likable & you couldn’t help being involved with them. I could suspend believability until we got to the part of stopping a fight between 2 warriors trained to be fighting machines by spraying them with water! Really??? But up to then, it was a pretty good book.

Heartbreak, romance, excitement and love. I loved the setting this book took place in. My heart broke for young Ashlyn and her dad. The friendliness Mia encountered was heartwarming and the love she found feels so true. A perfect beach read.

Touching love story. I loved reading Mia Callaway's story. She's recently lost her job and her boyfriend, so she heads to Angel's Bay to clean out her Aunt Carly's house and decide what to do with her life. Jeremy is an ex-Army guy who was injured in the line of duty. While on medical leave, he received a call that he had an 8yr old daughter he never knew about and that her mother had been killed. So Jeremy takes Ashlyn and heads to his hometown, Angel's Bay. He thinks it will be a place where they can both heal and get to know each other. Mia meets Jeremy after getting stuck on her roof and finds out they'll be neighbors. Ashlyn takes to Mia right away. Their friendship keeps Mia and Jeremy in constant contact. This was a sweet love story between Jeremy and Mia. But the love they both had for Ashlyn was very touching. I also enjoyed the mystery surrounding the paintings found at her Aunt's house. As always, Barbara Freethy draws you into the life of the characters and makes you wish you were a Callaway too! I'd recommend this book to everyone!

He is an injured soldier who found he has an 8 year old daughter who is traumatized since witnessing her mother’s death during a robbery‼️Mia has just suffered a break-up & the loss of her job as co-curator of an art museum & is there to clean out her beloved aunt’s home after her death ‼️. Ms Freethy writes about their meeting, their attraction & love of his little girl, her aunt’s many friends & the beautiful, small coastal town‼️. 😛The author grabs your attention from page one, fills those pages with strong characters, emotionally charged scenes, sexy romance, family love & a suspenseful mystery about a famous stolen painting❣️. If I didn’t know better. I enjoyed this book it was a very quick read and kept me wanting to find out more. I also liked that there was a child in it who had a personality and was one of the main characters. There were no writing mistakes as I’m one who reads each word carefully and notice those things. Great book to keep you reading!

Heart warming, tender love story, with a bit of mystery. I love the Callaway Series and this one was fantastic. This is a heart warming, tender love story. There's romance, mystery and fun. I loved Mia and Jeremy and Ashlyn, Jeremy's daughter. My heart ached for what Ashlyn had gone through. It was heart warming to watch her come out of her protective shell and trust her Daddy, Jeremy. This book will mess with your emotions. I laughed and even cried a couple of times. My heart was breaking for what Ashlyn had gone through. There is just enough mystery and intrigue to keep you guessing. The romance between Mia and Jeremy is sweet and tender. I felt their connection and even though it takes place over a short period of time, it felt right. Looking forward to the next one in the series

Great love story/mystery. I really enjoyed this story. It starts off calm and then moves into a mystery. The ending was a surprise, but I don’t know if I agree with the decision that was made about the criminal.

Boring. The story is interesting but so much emphasis is put on the dialogue and it’s quit boring. They talk and talk and talk and talk and talk about everything, and go into insane detail about things. Then turn around and tell a person that just entered the room exactly what they had just talked about in the same detail as before. Good story but I couldn’t finish it

I loved the Characters & the close bonds of Family the Romance & Support for a little girl after such tragedy in her short life. No Wonder Barbara Freethy is one of my Absolute Favourite Authors. ❤️😊

Easy read romance. Apart from the confusion of all the names at family get together, this was another enjoyable Callaways story about Mia. These are quick and easy reads with a little drama, but perfect for when I’m in the mood for something light and uncomplicated.

If I Didn't Know Better. A good and emotional read with a suspenseful twist. Going to Angel Bay, to clean up her recently deceased aunt's house, provides a break that Mia needs, to get away from her current life which is falling apart. Her new neighbour and his daughter are a nice distraction but she is not looking for love, is she? She also needs to find out who is vandalising items in her aunt's art collection and why? Another glorious chapter of the Callaway family by Barbara Freethy.
