After You by Jojo Moyes
After You by Jojo Moyes Book Summary
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Giver of Stars and the forthcoming Someone Else's Shoes, discover the love story that captured over 20 million hearts in Me Before You, After You, and Still Me.
“You’re going to feel uncomfortable in your new world for a bit. But I hope you feel a bit exhilarated too. Live boldly. Push yourself. Don’t settle. Just live well. Just live. Love, Will.”
How do you move on after losing the person you loved? How do you build a life worth living?
Louisa Clark is no longer just an ordinary girl living an ordinary life. After the transformative six months spent with Will Traynor, she is struggling without him. When an extraordinary accident forces Lou to return home to her family, she can’t help but feel she’s right back where she started.
Her body heals, but Lou herself knows that she needs to be kick-started back to life. Which is how she ends up in a church basement with the members of the Moving On support group, who share insights, laughter, frustrations, and terrible cookies. They will also lead her to the strong, capable Sam Fielding—the paramedic, whose business is life and death, and the one man who might be able to understand her. Then a figure from Will’s past appears and hijacks all her plans, propelling her into a very different future. . . .
For Lou Clark, life after Will Traynor means learning to fall in love again, with all the risks that brings. But here Jojo Moyes gives us two families, as real as our own, whose joys and sorrows will touch you deeply, and where both changes and surprises await.

After You. After reading "Me before You" I was disappointed in Lou in this book. I know she was grieving but some of her choices were hasty. I found the book a good read but nothing compared to the previous one. I do like the author's approach to the "English of our beloved UK". The author had me laughing out loud at her humorous characters, which was basically almost all characters except Camilla. But it turned out she could be human as we see her gentler side.
Different from Me Before You. Loved this book!
After You. I was a little concerned about what the second book would be like, because I loved Me Before You so much, but it was absolutely phenomenal! JoJo Moyes has a way to make you laugh, cry, and want to re read the novel!
The Nightengale. Liked this book. A great read.
Couldn't put it down. This sequel did not disappoint. Beautiful story about grief and love and letting go and moving on.
Loved this book. Loved this book! I read it in one sitting and made all my friends read it! The perfect book if you want to fall in love with the characters!
After you. A nice story. Not as great as the first one, as always. But over all ok. Will patiently wait for the third one.
Fabulous !. I just finished reading Me before you and After you. I was not able to put the books down. Amazing writing talent. How each book flowed. I laughed, cried and found myself thinking about the book when I wasn't able to continue the read.
After You. Did not like the ending but I suppose it leaves room for another sequel. If Louisa does not end up marrying Sam then I'm done with Moyes.
After You. What a superb read! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I could not put it down. I read it in a day and a half. So inspiring and motivating. Thank you, JoJo.
Good!. Doesn't compare to the first book. This one seemed to drag on a bit, the last 5 chapters were page turners... But overall a good read!
I love jojo. I love this authors books. She keeps the characters real, like you're reading about your best friends. She makes you fall in love with each character and each story within the first couple of chapters.
Sorry but no. I knew from the beginning that it would be different from the first book. I was expecting finally to read about a happy Lou. But huge disappointment. When the story turns interesting finally, it ends with no direction. I read it completely but it took me a lot of effort. I was rushing the pages after the first three episodes. Boring.
Disappointed. I really wanted to love this book but there is no comparison to the first book. Nothing. Really. Happened.
WOOOOOOO. I absolutely love this book and could not stop picturing a movie. I hope there will be another movie❤️
Just don't even. The first book was terrible I'm not even sure why i picked up the second audio book at the library. 100% satisfied I didn't waste money on either of them.
So much potential.... But things definitely fell flat for me. The beginning was ok and some other bits and pieces. I could be fine with Lou reverting to her old life at first but thought she'd eventually move forward and live as a Will wanted her to. I felt she was just a shell of herself and ready to crack most of the book. I had hopes of seeing Mary again from the wedding, Nathan, her adventures at school...Just going to wait and see if there is a third book and hope this was just a sophomore slump.
After You. I was a HUGE fan of Me Before You. I was super excited that there was going to be a follow up book. But reading it, it lacked what the first book had. It was nice to see what happens after, but completely different than the first book.
After You. Loved both books. It's a disservice to call either of JoJo's books a "romance". It's so much more than that. How about wonderful human interest story?
Don't read. The first book was amazing. This has so many twists and turns, it makes it very messy and tries to surprise readers at every turn. Definitely not what I expected.
After You. Great story with good humor interjected. Worth the read.
After you. Excellent read, I hope this is not the end, I want more of these characters and their lives.
Makes the First Book Feel Like a Pick Me Up. The first book was lovely and believable. Besides the fact that there are so many twists and turns that your head is spinning, it’s really depressing and not life affirming. It’s downright depressing. Don’t waste your time.
Okay decent beginning but.... At first, it was great. However the story line is a little bit hard to believe. My main issue was with Lou, Sam, Lily, Donna, and the bad guy. Me Before You was such a wonderful touching story. Nothing cheesy. However, the other two books after it, are more like horrible cheesy lifetime movies. I was really into Me Before You. The other two, I could have lived without. I would have much rather had another Me Before You but from Will’s perspective. I’d love to know his thoughts and feelings about his condition as well as his feelings for Lou.
After You. Another excellent read that I couldn’t put down! Now can’t wait to devour the next in the series “Still Me”. I am loving them all!!!
Tedious and boring .... This was one of the most tedious and boring books that I have ever read. This author should have stopped writing after her last book. I felt tortured reading it. Poor plot!
Me After You. Great book. Did not want it to end. What a great story of love loss and love again!!
Disappointing. Much like many, I was truly captivated by "Me Before You." In four hours, I had churned through it, eyes red from the tears. There was something uniquely enrapturing about it. "After You" couldn't have been further from it's predecessor. The pacing was much slower, the characters much less interesting and on the whole, simply mediocre. In the prologue, JoJo Moyes states that she had never intended to write a sequel to the compelling original story. I wish she hadn't. Similar to the follow-up to "The Devil Wears Prada" (a bland, plodding read), Moyes' second effort seems to water down all of the intensity from her hit. If you're curious as I was, you'll inevitably read "After You," but I can't recommend the opposite enough. It isn't that the writing is poor or plot particularly bad, you'll simply never feel the magic from "Me Before You" again.
In love.... I loved this book from the very beginning seeing the way that Louis got over the death of her love. I think that this is a great follow up to the first book. Amazing at adding various characters and telling from their side. Great, Great book!
Surprising Sequel. You never k ow is sequels will be able to live up to the story that come before them. I ended up falling in love with the characters form this story more than the characters in me before you. A great sequel that I could read over and over again.
Great follow up. I loved this follow up to me before you.
Better. I loved this book, even more than the first. Keep Louise going....please.
Me after You. Loved it!! A fun book to read....
❣️❣️❣️. A great sequel!
Lovely, but overly dramatic at times. The series are page-turners; hence the high rating. However, this second installment is more depressing than the first. There was no sobs this time; the writing more predictable. But, it was all around exciting. The character development makes up for the sporadic plot devices. Looking forward to the next!
Loved it!!!. What a great book!!!
After You. Real “page turner” excellent read!
Depressing. Where the first book was entertaining and inspiring and uplifting and deserves to be a movie this one does not. How unfortunate as I read this immediately after finishing Before You. The character is so self absorbed I wish she had taken the same shot that Will got in Switzerland and spared us this depressing long saga to a first great book. You'll want to go to the therapy sessions just to get through this. Terrible.
A great read. Loved this sequel. Very great
Just ok. I should have just left it alone with the first book and movie.
Sequel. I just read this book in one day after finishing her first book. Having recently gone through a loss, her writing was thought provoking. I really enjoyed the journey.
After you. Pretty good but defintely not as good as the first book me before you. Hoping there is a third book though.
Me before you book 2. The title I gave it when I purchased it was because it’s Louisa’s story, but it’s under a different light. It's a great read that does justice to every penny spent and every moment spent reading and I have no words to express how interesting it was to see what happens after book 1. The way it begins, made me talk to myself. I was like: omg, look how it starts! I was surprised and I got sad and happy and experienced a wide range of emotions reading it. Can’t wait for book 3.
Very Good.. So I had just finished 'me before you' and had debated long and hard if I had wanted to read the second one. I didn't want to read the second one because the first one was so well written and I didn't think there needed to be a second one. So after I debated, I decided was going to read it. It was a spectacular book and honestly I think I like it better than the first book. It has very good twists and turns and is overall an amazing book. So if you are someone that is debating on reading this book like I was, read it. It is definitely worth your time.
Just ok. This felt like the never-ending story. This book went on and on and at times was a bit slow and boring. After You was definitely not as good as the first book.
After You. Not as good/memorable for me as Me Before You was but still a good read if you enjoyed the first one.
Me before you and After you. Both of these books are awesome! Jojo draws you into the story! You experience every emotion! I want a third book to After you! To see how Louisa does in New York at her new job. And how her and Sam do. I want them to get married!! Love both! So neat there's a movie on Me before You!
Huge disappointment. Not compelling in the least. In my opinion, this book was a let down after the brilliance of the previous book. I was so excited to read this one after I had finished Me Before You yet, I found myself rolling my eyes within the first chapter. Unfortunately, this book lacks originality and luster. It reads like a hastily written fan fiction and takes all the cheap turns that you would expect. Very disappointing.
A second hit!. Just like the first book, I couldn't put this one down! The ending is a little more predictable than the first book, but still has some elements of surprise throughout. Wish there was a third book!
beautiful Sequel. Page turner from start to finish.

Story stretch out. The second part is not worth reading, truly the author stretched the story to a point that doesn't make sense. Stick to the first book not necessary to read the second book
Loved It. I love this book. The beginning was quite depressing, but reading it makes you realize the struggle of recovering from a loss and life afterwards; which you don’t see until you experience it or read it and this book shows those raw emotions taking over Louisa’s life. There are twists, really happy moments, and heart wrenching cries. But such a good book. I loved it and would read it over and over again.
Wonderful. Read Me Before You and After you. Both books are amazing. I have read hundreds and hundreds of books but these two are some of the best I've ever read.
An understandably depressing novel. Jojo Moyes has once again captured us with her wonderful writing. Unfortunately,I was highly disappointed with a few factors in this novel. Of course, Louisa Clark is still suffering from the devastating blow from the death of Will Trainor. Louisa's life is boring and bland. She does nothing more than work at a bar at an airport. I felt, after beginning the novel, that any hope you feel at the ending of Me Before You is crushed, and Louisa is utterly upset. It was much too depressing for my taste, especially considering the hopeful ending in the previous novel. Now, the ending of this novel wasn't what I had been dreaming of either. I won't spoil anything, but it was rather disappointing. Despite all my negative comments, I did enjoy the novel. There were some fantastic quotes that I absolutely loved ♥♥♥! So many well written sentences! Thank you for reading my review, and I hope it has been helpful!
After You. A total waste of time. I found it to be a complete mockery of Me Before You.
A worthy sequel. Loved it so much. Does the first book justice. Made me cry (of course). Great to see these characters moving on. I completely understood Louisa. Definitely one of my favourite series of all time, I would highly recommend this series. Still miss you Will.♥️

Nothing like the first. I really don't understand how the author could follow up such a marvelous book, with this. I wish it started where it ended!!
Good but not great. I loved the emotion and story of the first book... And although I liked the characters in the sequel I felt like the story was muted.
Beautiful!. Typical of Jojo Moyes, this is immediately and immensely readable. I am only disappointed in that it had to end as I believe there is (and can be) more to Louisa's story.
Too many feelings!. Me Before You was the first book by Jojo that I read and I knew right away that I wanted to read whatever else she had done. After You made me sad, happy and everything in between. This book had me laughing out loud and crying tears of happiness and of sadness. Jojo takes you on a journey and you really find a connection in her characters. I love her writing and this book had me wanting more, I hope that Louisa's story continues but until it does I will have to read this one again.
After You. Another incredible book by JoJo. It takes a part of life that we all will go through at one time or another and allows you to feel normal and not alone. She depicts love as well: much differently than in Me Before You but still very heartfelt. I only gave it 4 stars because I felt like it took almost half the book to reach that "I can't put the book down" feeling. But I still highly recommend it. Wonderful morals and life lessons!
So so. Found myself skimming through the pages. Very disappointing. Nothing like Me Before You
A decent sequel. I wanted to love this book as much as Me Before You, but it didn't quite happen. I could not put the first book down, but that was not the case with this book. It was a decent read!
Please tell me there's a third book coming!!. I loved Jojo's first book but I loved this even more. I am going to sit on my hands waiting for the third. Please hurry!
After You. Too slow and a little bit boring. Some action at the end that certainly leave you waiting for the next book. Not worth $12.99.
Loved. I've just finished reading this after reading Me Before You. This was very touching to see where Lou has journeyed to on her life through grief. I'm hoping there's a third book to be coming. The way Ambulance Sam and Lou left off in the airport just needs a finale, I feel. Hopefully, just maybe, we'll get to see where their life has led them.
Heartwarming. Just a perfect sequel!! I want more!!!
Not as good as 'Me Before You'. I tired of this book about half-way through. The characters were thinly drawn and not believable.
Loved. I love a follow up book so you can continue with the characters whom you love and feel a bit invested with. This book doesn't disappoint. Great read and can't wait to see both movies!
After You. I loved the story line!! It was interesting to see how Lou handled Will's death and the choices she made and the people that entered her life after Will. Please make this a trilogy!!! I would like to see some sort of finality with Lou.
After you. Awesome to read this book after Me Before You. Grief and moving on are not easy.
Fabulous book!!. I loved this book! Her characters are so lifelike that I can picture them in my head. I think in After you, Will is still a huge part of the story and the way Moyes ends this is a twist for sure but keeps you wanting more. I hope she will continue on with these characters and their stories.
Book # 3 please?. I have fallen in love with the first two books. Now can we please have book # 3 that follows Louisa in her new career in New York? Please please?? Jojo Moyes creates characters who seem real, living, breathing people we love and know personally. There is so much more story in Lou, Sam, Lili, and the rest of the people who inhabit Lou's world. Please, Ms. Moyes, make this a trilogy!
Great book. I spent four breakfasts and four nights reading the sequel of " Me before you". In the middle I regretted. I hate to learn the happy ending Louisa's turned sour, after the treacherous journey she's been through. I had to stop to shake hula hoops to calm myself. But I managed to finish it. Overall it's great. Just why Sam fell for Louisa was a bit ambiguous.
enjoyed. this went in a direction I wasn't fully expecting, and that was good. It was great to spend time with Lou again through this story. overall happy with the book as a whole, more so happy with the ending. i would have been upset if it ended differently. can't wait to see the movie with Emilia and Sam!
After You. Thank you to Jojo Moyes for two wonderful books ("Me Before You" the first book in this series). I have become a member of the families in these books over the last week as her writing leaves you immersed in them. I will miss them for days if not months. A great read.
Plz more loved me before you and after you. Plz want more I've read these first of the series plz want more of this trilogy
Doesn't compare to the first book. I wanted to love this, but I didn't. Without spoiling the plot, I'll just say that it never gains momentum. By the time it seems like the story is finally getting started, it ends. Sort of. More like just stops.
So enjoyable.... ...wasn't sure if I should buy it after the sample, but I took chance & it just got better & better. I really enjoyed reading it, grew to love the Characters and shed a tear or two. Hope you enjoy it too, dear reader.
It's an Ok. First book was so much better.
Amazing!. Loved it. Everything about it. I hope there's a 3rd book; I am dying to know how Louisa makes out.
She did it again!. When I read 'Me before you', of course I was balling pretty much the whole second half of the book. I did not think it would be possible to write a sequel to such a great book. It's like I was still mourning Will's death right along with Lou. Jojo Moyas has an incredible talent of writing characters you really connect to and get attached to. I preordered this because I had to read it weather it was good or bad, because honestly, 'Me before you', I think is my favorite-or at least most touching-book I've yet to read. Well I am pleasantly surprised once again! I cried pretty much through out the whole book. 5 stars all the way! I can't wait for the movie to come out next June. Can't wait!!😊
Full of surprises. I was haunted when I finished Me Before You. This book gave me closure.
After You by JoJo Moyes. The "happy" ending to Me before You. Not what I expected, but a wonderful and witty look at the journey of grief...JoJo Moyes is amazing. Hoping their will be a 3rd book or at a novella to let us know what happens next in Lou's life.
Lackluster when compared to it’s prequel. Lackluster when compared to it’s prequel
Just OK. I was a disappointed in the twists and turns happened in the book. 'Me before You' had a unified feel whereas this one had everything but the kitchen sink thrown in. Unfortunately, this was not worth the time or effort.
Just Perfect. It's been at least a year since I've spent 12.99 on an e-book. This was well worth it. Jo-Jo Moyes never disappoints!
Great book. I liked Me Before You, but I LOVED After You. It gave insights into the grieving process in an honest way. It had plot twists that had me reading past midnight.
Completely Disappointed. Loved the first book... Second book was horrible. Its all over the place. Every plot twist (there's like 9) is completely random and out of left field, over the top and unnecessary. The story does not flow well at all. When the story does finally start to get intriguing, it's over. Don't waste your time or money...
After You. It was a phenomenal read; I loved it all. Thank you Jojo Moyes.
