The Drifter by Nick Petrie
The Drifter by Nick Petrie Book Summary
The first explosive thriller featuring Peter Ash, a veteran who finds that the demons of war aren’t easily left behind...
“Lots of characters get compared to my own Jack Reacher, but Petrie’s Peter Ash is the real deal.”—Lee Child
Peter Ash came home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with only one souvenir: what he calls his “white static,” the buzzing claustrophobia due to post-traumatic stress that has driven him to spend a year roaming in nature, sleeping under the stars.
But when a friend from the Marines commits suicide, Ash returns to civilization to help the man’s widow with some home repairs. Under her dilapidated porch, he finds more than he bargained for: the largest, ugliest, meanest dog he’s ever encountered...and a Samsonite suitcase stuffed with cash and explosives.
As Ash begins to investigate this unexpected discovery, he finds himself at the center of a plot that is far larger than he could have imagined...and it may lead straight back to the world he thought he’d left for good.

Excellent!. Easy flow and great story. Looking forward to the series!
The drifter. Good story, well written, fun read. Keep on writing!
Very good….. But not a Reacher. At least not yet…. I’m moving to the next one just to see how the dog makes out!
Implausible by any definition. Interesting story for a few pages. A damaged vet, living with PTSD. The break down for me occurs during a shoot out. Mr. Ash drills an ambusher in the middle of the forehead, at 50 feet with a 1911 Colt .45, while under 7.62 x39 auto fire, at night no less. Been a Colt fanatic for 50 years and this is next to impossible, Bob Lee would have a tough time pulling this off. The rest of the book may be excellent, however I won’t read any more about Peter Ash. I like my fiction to be accurate, at least when it comes to firearms.
Ugh. .
fast and fun read!. I loved this book! Fast-paced, interesting and exciting! I didn’t want it to end
Tough read. It is a slow burn that never heats up.
Slooooow. Slow and monotonous
Excellent, Well Written, Action Packed!. I purchased this book given I am a Jack Reacher fan, and I am glad I did. Peter is just an outstanding main character akin to Jack Reacher and some. The writing flows as well as the storyline, and the emotional and psyche narratives lends themselves well for getting into the heads of the characters. I will not give a synopsis of the book so as not to ruin a reading for you all. I purchased the physical copy also to add to my bookshelf as it is a worthy written work. Kudos for the author for an outstanding reading experience!
Good. Thrilling novel for a starter.
The Drifter. Excellent book. Thoughtful & provoking. Characters (two legged and four legged) took on a life of their own.
Entertaining. Slightly predictable and the ending I thought would be a little more climatic. However I enjoyed it and it kept my attention.
If you like Lee Childs... Recommend. Well written. Reminds me of Lee Childs and the Jack Reacher series. Crisp dialogue, lots of action, well plotted...
This book is outstanding!. I read mysteries constantly. This is the best one I’ve read in years. It is outstanding. The characters are captivating and the writing is excellent. It is a great story. I highly recommend it. Once you start, you cannot put it down.
The Drifter. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was heartwarming and action filled. The way the veterans' story was interwoven was well told and I know was truly real.
The Drifter. Nick Petrie. This is an excellent read focusing on a former Marines struggles with PTSD and to adjust to civilian life while honoring A commitment to a fallen soldier.Lieutenant Peter Ash fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. A friend from the Marines, his Sergeant has committed suicide and he has returned to civilian life to help the mans widow Dinah. He builds her a new porch with the ruse that the marine corps is paying for it. Underneath the porch is a huge and mean dog which actually belonged to his deceased friend Jimmy. He also finds a samsonite suitcase stuffed with money and explosives. What unfolds is an action packed thriller of mega proportions! He finds himself in the middle of a terrorist plot to blow up a building that will result in the deaths of many people. Action to the very last page!! My highest recommendation!!
Read-it-in-a-day kind of book. Good, easy read. Good characters, plausible plot.
The drifter. This book was soooo great!! I read tons of thrillers/ mysteries and this was right up there with baldacci, corben, childs...it was exciting, moving, real, loved the characters! Cant wait for your next one, keep writing about Peter!
The Drifter. Great read; I couldn't put it down. It reminded me somewhat of Lee Child's Jack Reacher series.
The Drifter. I really really enjoyed, and I don't usually write reviews. I saw this was your first published novel and I want to say good job and I'll be waiting for your next book!!! Ronda
The Drifter. Story reads well. I really enjoyed it.
The Drifter. Well written with believable characters. Great story. I look forward to his next novel
Riveting and restrained. An impeccable minimal style that keeps the pressure up with small touches. In the vein of Jack Reacher , a real compliment. Anxiously waiting for the next one.
The Drifter. A very good read! Couldn't put down until I finished it! We put on an event for former Prisoners of War and the stories they share are heart rendering. They will tell you they still have nightmares every night no matter what war they served in. We welcome them home every year.
Finally a relatable superhero. Nick does a great job of making a war veteran superhero, who is still very human and struggles with real weaknesses
The Drifter. Good book all around . Quality characters with a realistic plot . Entertaining from start to finish .
The Drifter. What an amazing read from beginning to end.
