#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • THE BLOCKBUSTER JACK REACHER SERIES THAT INSPIRED TWO MAJOR MOTION PICTURES AND THE STREAMING SERIES REACHER

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, Suspense magazine • Stephen King calls Jack Reacher “the coolest continuing series character”—and now he’s back in this masterly new thriller from Lee Child.

“Why is this town called Mother’s Rest?” That’s all Reacher wants to know. But no one will tell him. It’s a tiny place hidden in a thousand square miles of wheat fields, with a railroad stop, and sullen and watchful people, and a worried woman named Michelle Chang, who mistakes him for someone else: her missing partner in a private investigation she thinks must have started small and then turned lethal.

Reacher has no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there, and there’s something about Chang . . . so he teams up with her and starts to ask around. He thinks: How bad can this thing be? But before long he’s plunged into a desperate race through LA, Chicago, Phoenix, and San Francisco, and through the hidden parts of the internet, up against thugs and assassins every step of the way—right back to where he started, in Mother’s Rest, where he must confront the worst nightmare he could imagine.

Walking away would have been easier. But as always, Reacher’s rule is: If you want me to stop, you’re going to have to make me.

Make Me. Definitely not one of Child's better efforts. Reacher drags an implausable plot through six hundred pages like a ball and chain to a quite predictable finish. One star, at best.

Brassfield0401

Make me. A good story, unique.

Faux Pa

Took a while. My first Lee Childs book. Took a little while to warm up to Jack Reacher and once I did and "got" him , as I see him, I really enjoyed the book. Will definitely go back and explore some other works by Mr Childs and his friend Jack Reacher. Great sense of style and a sense of humor. The more I think about it the more I liked it

Shark/1

Awful. Do yourself a favor and look away. Huge Reacher fan, hugely disappointed.

Beckfritz67

Make Me will make you want more!. Reads quickly, because you can't put it down. Reacher is at his best. Always a twist or turn where you don't expect it. A must- read!

Lyn in AZ

Least favorite Jack Reacher. Very slow start. Promise of surprise ending fulfilled. Too bad the ending was depraved and sick! Do not recommend!

Ppppsssttbb

Make Me. Jack Reacher is the best. I never tire of reading this Lee Child series. I just wish they came out more often. Great book.

GolfWV

Make Me. Have read all the Jack Reacher series. This one is not his best. Lacks much of a plot and not enough attention to plausibility. Probably done with these.

Old aggie70

Disappointing. I've read them all. This was my first disappointment. Way too wordy as if adding pages.

Lee Child fan

Make Me. Most of the book consists of tedious descriptions of bullets and people flying through the air. The plot is ludicrous. Hard to believe Lee Child wrote this.

Silverporsche

Make me. It's too gruesome to read without getting nightmares. I'm never going to read Lee Child again.

GybeNorth

Shallow. Thrown together. Metaphors were overdone and page fillers. Plot anticlimactic. Mr. Child is more often, better than this. It’s a Reacher so read if you enjoy the character and the typical story line but he has better work.

Gkennealy

Make me. Love every minute of it

Fred flinsyone

Make me. Excellent.one of his best

Stephensfam8

Ok so. YHow’s one not for you today I or Kiynlokumimkm

David5K

Make Me. Another GREAT book by Lee Child. Poor Reacher! He keeps getting into situations!

Ciapp

Slow read. I was disappointed in this one. Story was slow to develop and not as much action as I remember in the Reacher series.

Aluminum22

Loved this one. Page turner. Why say it's not good enough? It's like 32 flavones for everybody. Enjoy !

Iglooite

DO IT. I’ve read this Author and loved his writing for many years. I read books from the Reacher series hit and miss and loved them, so I decided to read the entire series. I started with #1 and am still reading. Just finished Make Me Read the entire series. Each one is great, but you get to know Reacher as and still reading. My review title is DO IT.

Raydel13

Wait until cheaper. I have read every Reacher book. I think I paid $14.99. Wait until it is cheaper, you'll thank me.

Arnies volunteer

Make Me. Not a fan of Jack Reacher....probably would not spend the money on this one.

Boom55()6

Sigh. Gotta love reacher. Gotta love lee child. But this felt like lee mailed it in. Definitely his voice. His prose. His style. But the middle felt like stuffing. Like he had lost his way. And strangely he took a few stabs at literary grandstanding. I actually felt like child is tired of this story. Even though I think he loves reacher. But how do u turn down this kind of paycheck. Most teachers are a 8-10. A couple got strange. This one lost its way.

Halsterx

Make Me. Worst Jack Reacher book I've read. Simple, stupid story that could have been said in half the words. I'd like my money back!

Wcs61

Dud from the start. What can I say other than if you buy this book start reading around chapter 45. The beginning chapters were so odd I had to make myself read the rest. The action is an all time low the story line was strangely written but the ending what not what I expected. That was the only excitement I noticed. Come on Lee this was not even remotely close to being up to your normal standards.

Eyerish21

Not His Best. I love the Jack Reacher series but this one was too bizarre. Not a good read.

Tenacity1943

Five Stars -- As They All Are. Jack Reacher is the toughest, meanest, biggest harass, around and you ALWAYS want him on your side. If I had to go to war w/ just one other guy, I'd pick him.

O. Vega

Expected more from the author. First book I read from Lee, I expected more from this author the book was by no mean bad.

Dd71habu

Make Me by Lee Child. This is another in a long line of Jack area her books penned by Lee Child. Most of them are of the lone stranger who blows into town, see injustice, fixes it according to his own sense of justice, but this one is different. Not wanting to spoil it, the plot doesn't give away the crime until near the very end and it true Jack Reacher style, it's a crime against humanity. Jack solves it in his own unique way, but I think Lee has reached a new high in his writing as far as hiding the true story and it keeps you guessing right up until the action has you in its clutches and you can't stop! A great story and I think it's Lee's best to date!

TNT 43094

Great Book. What a twist!

Review12abcxyz

Worst jack reacher. I love jack reacher books. They are usually trying on reality. But usually fun to read. This book is absolutely dribble. The plot is silly, most of the action is not just unrealistic but moronic. A lot of boring filler.

Gomer1977

Not Good. Very unpleasant, grotesque ending. Wish I hadn't read it.

Spider6565

Make me. Great reading as all of Child's books are.

XIowaNewsGuy

Quite the tale. Child outdoes himself with this Reacher outing, which is further out in the middle of nowhere than usual locales. No shortage of villains — the Big Bad going nameless, only identified by hair and jeans. Intricate plot with no shortage of twists and turns. Neither Reacher nor the reader knows what he’s ultimately up against until the very end, which makes for an engrossing tale.

KrisT117

Grim, But an Excellent Read. The plot behind this struck me as unusually grim, but what I especially liked the book for was that Reacher was showing some damage from all the punishment he has taken over the years, which is more than realistic. The end hints that the next book might deal with some of the consequences from the physical injuries he has dealt with over the years, and I look forward to that. My choice for a movie version of Reacher is Jim Caviezel. He's got the size and charisma, and he's play ingredients a character very similar to Reacher on Person of Interest.

The Story ❤️

Does Not Dissappoint. As with each Jack Reacher tale, the story grabs you from the very beginning and hangs on tight until the very end. Lee Child has taught me many things; this time about the existence of the Deep Web. Thanks for the ride!

Wormturns

Make Me. One of his best

Brunetta4u

Great!!. An exciting read with all the twists and turns that lead to a disturbing ending. Reacher's power of deductive reasoning never ceases to amaze!

Michael/Eve

Make me. I have read all Lee Child's books and enjoyed them all. He and David Baldacci are my two favorite authors. Make me made me bored, frustrated at long-winded useless blab blab, and the plot was plain stupid, with an ending that was nauseating. A fiction by its nature is a made up narrative, but still it must have some plausibility. This book was a piece of trash from the beginning to its putrid end. Please, please DO NOT buy this worthless piece of garbage.

BBVD

A must read. As always Lee Child delivers another fantastic book in the Jack Reacher series. Fans will not be disappointed.

Sumyac

Not Nearly as Good as Older Reacher Novels. The underlying premise should have made a good book but way too many shortcuts taken in the story. Very disappointing.

Peteddpi

Make Me. A very very good read!

Pseudoid

Agree. I agree this book is not the best but not the worst. Quite interesting and exciting novel for me. Recommend to read if you like Jack.

Grutfd

Another exciting reecher book. We need many more!

Susie899

Loved this. You have to read this.

Merrie29

Not the best, not the worst. For the first time we are able to calculate Reacher's age, which, if he graduated West Point at 21 in the class of 83, puts him at 54 years old. A little old for this stuff, don't you think? I cannot figure out how women keep sleeping with a guy who wears no deodorant and changes his clothes every four days. And she let him into the car after being full of mud and in a hog pen. Story was interesting, took a turn I didn't expect. I've read all the books, but the last few are not high on my favorites list.

Whim1954

One of the best. I love the way Mr. Child writes, like slow motion, especially the much anticipated fight scenes. This one doesn’t disappoint. Not for the faint of heart, kept me guessing until the end.

Can't get refund

This book just rambles!. I have never wrote a review before but I had to on this one. I can't believe Lee Childs wrote it. The sentences are never ending. I counted 112 words in one sentence. I'm pretty sure my English teacher would have given an F on that. If I would have this book first of the Jack Reacher series, I would have never read another.

Spaghetti & Meatballs

Make Me. First and foremost, I have loved all the Jack Reacher books so much so that I have read them all twice. This is my least favorite. I loved the interaction with Chang. However, this story seemed too technical and drawn out. I had to concentrate to stay focused on the story. Something was either missing or lacking. I have loved all his other books and will continue to read them as they become available.

The_garvers

Enjoyable Formula Series Addition. This book joins the previous 19 or so installments of Jack Reacher. He stumbles onto a complex evil caper, collaborates with a female member of the law enforcement community - always attractive in Reacherland - and of course they get it on. Some drawn out fight scenes where Reacher analyzes each possible movement in a 10 second encounter for what would probably take 10 times the duration of the fight.....but if you liked the prior tales, you'll like this one too. I just keep coming back for more - and still find these formulaic tales good entertainment - albeit not terribly cerebral.

Markf21

Another great Reacher novel!. As a retired MP I enjoy these Reacher adventures. Very well done! Amazing that there are really sicko's out there that get their jollies on seeing others in harms way for their own personal satisfaction and willing to pay big bucks to watch it.

Why so expensive?. I love the Jack Reacher series. I have bought every one, most in print rather than electronic. I must admit I am unwilling to pay $18.99 for an electronic version that I can only read on an Apple device. For that price, they should be mailing me a paperback. So sad.

Cranky Professor

Not his best. This book was a bit off. Jack wasn't himself. I kept thinking that Jack might be not survive the book, that he was getting old and tired and that Lee was tired of writing. The plot was slow to develop and was very dark and somewhat sad when it finally did develop. I think I'll wait for the reviews before I by another. Sorry Lee, but this just wasn't a 10.

Elgeemo

Make Me. Had been pining for another Reacher reading adventure since reading whole series back to back ... At buddies barbershop a customer came in & I saw Lee Childs name sticking out of his backpack "Is that a New one finally?".. Yup... So straight home -and bride did the download version..grr I love my hard copy.( yet nothing gets u to restart reading ..like that I-Pad cracking you in the head reading in bed) This tale was "ok", but rarely created spine tingling suspense as others in collection had. My hope is the next one rekindles the fire, suspense, and cocky action of our favourite ex military superman drifter with a code to intervene with rough justice, when others whither away

KMCCL

Great Book. It is hard to find books I really enjoy, this is a good one. Problem is, now I have to wait a long time for the next one.

Toniajane

Make Me. I have read all of Lee Child's books. I was disappointed by the last one and again with this one. Lots of repetition trying to make the book longer than it needs to be. Character development was poor and weak. Reacher's action was limited and it's the hero in him fighting for the underdog that makes him such a great character.

Bisaffie

Make Me. At the top of his game Lee Child did not disappoint. Make Me is one of the best Jack Reacher novels I have read. Definitely a shocker of an ending and should be made into a movie. Just not with Tom Cruise as Reacher. Cruise is too short and not built the way Reacher is described by Lee Child.

BardHad

Make Me. Enjoyed more than last two books. This is more like the original Jack Reacher. Better story line and better written. Thought Lee Child had played himself out but this book restores my faith in him. Look forward to his next. Let's see if he can keep up the pace.

Culou

Great Story. Excellent story telling. As good as all the other Reacher books. Well done lee

FernyD

Enjoyed it. Not as "guns a blazing" as some of Reachers stories but enjoyed it as always.

Cubanistagirl

Excellente!. With exactly the intrigue needed to read it in record time! Thank you for giving us a hero in Jack Reacher!

Wish I had read reviews. I’ve read all of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books. The last few including Make Me have been disappointing. Child’s writing style is now too predictable—he often goes overboard describing every characteristic of everything that his characters observe. For example, if Jack is approaching a house, Child’s will go into great detail (and hence use lots of space) to list/describe doors/windows/shutters/etc/etc. Gets boring quickly. And lately, especially in this latest Reacher thriller, Child’s story lines aren’t engaging. Make Me is particularly far-fetched and the tension that used to be a Child’s hallmark is missing. I pre-ordered Make Me. I won’t make that mistake again with Childs/Reacher novel.

CWOGriffin

Make me. To me; this is the best of the jack reacher books. A lot of. Technical stuff that I haven't heard of before..........fascinating!

ADurer

Really?. Not his best effort by any means. Too many implausible scenarios. Not as creative or as clever as LC used to be.

Shotkizer

A Home Run!. Child knocked it out of the park with this one! Job well done. Baldacci should be embarrassed with his Puller knock off series. No way Baldacci can touch this. Thanks Lee for an excellent read.

Bigfoot1972

Ghostwriter?. I have read all of the Jack Reacher books and have enjoyed them all except for this one. It seems like someone was given a list of important facts about Jack Reacher to be sure to include and then someone else wrote it. Very disappointed as I have loved this series for so long. My husband is a Reacher fan too and I told him not to even bother. Please get back to the real Jack Reacher!!!

Rovster

Only 1 disappointment. The only one disappointment about reading this book- it had to end.

TD's music

Mother Reacher Winner. It's hard not to like these stories. Jack Reacher consistent and interesting. Lots of locale and other details. And in a time when there is a lot of confusing debate about who & what is good versus bad...it is clear here...bad guys always lose. It's a good thing!

Papillion727

Disappointing. I've read all the Reacher books and must say this one dragged out to a graphic ending. Another author used this same topic and I hope to never see it again. Aside from that Reacher didn't seem to measure up to the man we saw in previous books.

CKJT321

Make Me. Disappointing for a Reacher novel. Boring. Only finished because I waited a year for it. Not as good as last two books. Too much like many of the other books in the middle of the series with far less interesting characters.

Mysteryjunkie

Mindlessly Numbing. This book was not riveting, cohesive, or edge of your seat anything. It was mind numbingly uninteresting. I mindlessly turned & skimmed the pages looking for something to sink my teeth into. Nothing. A whole book about nothing. No real plot or characters to get invested in. I skipped to the end to finish. Ok I really didn't read, read the end. I was looking for an "aha" moment. Again nothing. Ok maybe one thing but it was a nothing too because by that time I didn't really care. No real plot or characters to like. Lee Child where have you gone? Totally disappointed!

On Top of Events

Make Me review by DBC. Much prefer the earlier books. Making Reacher and the story more cerebral isn't working for me.

Rocketgirl56

Make Me. I never did get the significance of the title. Oh, well. I've read most of Child's Jack Reacher books, but I really liked the earlier ones better than the more recent ones. Child's stories are moving more slowly and he is getting bogged down with irrelevant details. In this book, when the nature of the criminal activity was finally revealed, I found it to be very imaginative but gruesome. However, it took Child way too long to get there and the final "battle" was unnecessarily so detailed as to be confusing and a distraction to the action. Not one of his better books, in my opinion.

Lepierce

Make Me. A great read!! Not sure why others thought this book was boring or disappointing. The plot, characters, and descriptions were excellent. The attention to details made the whole story deep and believable. I think this was the first time I really worried about Reacher's health. Don't listen to the negative reviews. You will love Reacher as much as ever! He will never let the bad guys win. Worth every cent!

Don't waist your $

Make me. Very disappointed in this book. Actually his last 4or 5 books are not up to his first books, which I really enjoyed. I think he needs some better plot lines. I would rather wait longer for a decent story instead of some weird plot that didn't tie together or really make any sense. Too bad, I liked his first books and really dislike paying good money for a bummer read.

7/15/2013

One of Child's best!. Just finished Make Me and loved it! I have read all of his books and found this one very entertaining and page turning. Highly recommend.

Pa 5498

Pure Evil. I have read all of the Jack Reacher books and got this one as soon as it was available. The book held my interest. However, the ending is pure evil and it bothered me all day. Come on, Lee Child, give us a good story without an ending like this one!

2 be or not 2 be.

Make me.. This is Lee's best book to date. Impossible to put the book down.

Dawg 22

Make Me. Lee Childs never disappoints. Another enjoyable Reacher novel. This character never grows old.

DoWriteMan

"Make Me" Made Me . . .. . . . rethink my devotion to Jack Reacher, his values, lifestyle, attitude, etc. My conclusion: I can't wait for Lee Child to write the next installment. It takes a special talent to keep you coming back for more when you start questioning the main character. But Reacher is a tough guy who serves "justice" to bad guys, and that appeal is too strong to ignore. "Make Me" continues the tradition with a dark, squirm-inducing story about a missing FBI agent-turned-private detective and his partner's search. Enter swinging, Jack Reacher.

Mystery Man Jim

terrible. Worst Jack Reacher book I've listened to. Many good ones but this was a big disappointment.

Odysseyid

Make Me. They just keep coming. Read them all, loved them all. This is no exception.

Longhorn5555

Disappointing. Implausible, very little action, hard to stay interested. Finale seems particularly contrived.

Wheaten greetin

Boring!. I was bored to tears reading this latest Reacher book. Travel, discuss to death, repeat. That's all the characters in this book seemed to do. Read all the other Reacher books. Skip this one.

Matt1859

Really rubbish. Read them all waited for this should not have. The descriptive text is far too much.

CI-BORG

MADE IT FOR ME. Lee Child does it again, Reacher plows through the bad guys like a sickle through wheat, and with a new dimension into his personality. A few stretches and exaggerations helped move the story along, but then again money talks, especially lots of money. Sorry, but no matter how many lifts the short (5'7") Tom Cruise steps in he'll never fill the fictional 6'5" Reacher's shoes.

SS in VA

Very Different--Not his best. I love Lee Childs and Reacher. And even a less than outstanding Childs book is still great. But this one was a little disappointing. Very few scenes where Reacher physically handled the bad guys, which most of us love. And a kind of weird plot to me. If this had been the first Reacher novel I ever read, I would be far from hooked on Reacher OR Childs. I hope Childs gets back to his regular stuff next time. I will buy and read them all, regardless.

Sfocdn

Do not buy. Long time reader and enjoyed earlier books. Last few I keep saying never again, this one tops it, will never waste my money on another of his books. The story is, at most, 2 chapters long. The book is filled with mundane descriptions of every day items. No character development and a thread bare plot. Stop wasting money on these poor excuses for books.

Sky Dog 76

Terrible. Don't waste your time. By second half the book is becomes impossible to follow and incredibly boring.

Current book

Lee Child Make Me. I have been a fan of Lee Childs books with Jack Reacher since the beginning. They have been going downhill for the last couple of books. This one was absolutely horrible. Story line and characters completely boring. Jack Reacher was completely boring. How does that happen? Don't waste you money on this one. I think Lee Child has to find Jack a long lost unknown son and continue this series through him teaching him and have the son go on as the new Jack Reacher. Everything that the readers loved about Jack Reacher has not been present in the last several books. What a shame.

Susan226

Make Me. Loved It!!! Best book yet!! Kept me guessing the entire book!!

BadGrl CJ

Ms.. Once again Lee Child has written a great Jack Reacher story. Reacher is the best character ever created in the genre. Cannot wait for the next book. I keep thinking it has to end somewhere and it just keeps getting better.

Ronin069

Make Me. Easily one of the best Reacher books - a fun ride start to finish, will definitely recommend to my friends and schedule for a re-read!

Beckfritz67

Make Me will make you want more!. Reads quickly, because you can't put it down. Reacher is at his best. Always a twist or turn where you don't expect it. A must- read!

Reach Higher

Movie. Should have been Sambo back in the day. No big rugged stars today.

Mews4598

Make Me. Just an okay book. Sort of disappointing when you love a character and hate the storyline I guess Reacher has to grow as a person but the encounter with his love life somehow is off

Flans_l

Didn't like this one. Some of Lee's books have really sick twists (and not in a good way). This is one of them. As they were traveling all over - the story was building nicely with a few surprises. When it got to the last 100 pages it took a really dark, disgusting twist. Didn't finish it. Don't recommend it.

RLO1016

Disappointment.. Well below the normal great story-telling of Lee Child. Didn't finish reading.

Hate os10.7

Retriever lover. Reacher at his absolute best!

RikiSantaFe

Make Me. Lee Child is the best. The very best. I've read all 20 of his books, most twice. Make Me, his latest, is superb. In this book, as well as his last several books, Jack Reacher, the hero, does a lot more detective work ... following vague clues and leads, many of which don't pay off. But he is relentless, dedicated to finding the truth and helping people, and of course, unstoppable. The last 75 pages, when the mystery is solved, are more physical risk, brawn and shooting of very, very bad guys. Jack Reacher is changing. Relying more on intellect and analysis, less on brawn. Makes the thriller more interesting. Makes Jack Reacher more real. Provides the basis for a natural transition as Reacher moves into his 40's and beyond.

Yelabug

Make Me. A great read. Right up there with the best.

Howie the K

Make Me. Read all of the Jack Reacher series and this is definitely not his best effort. Far too derivative of several other titles and plodding plot line and filler paragraphs. The female lead character was especially one dimensional and could have used more fleshing out, pun intended. The villains seemed to have been retreads from another book in the series involving a strange little town off the interstate. Way too formulaic. And expensive.

Frenchy0674

Outstanding Book!. Great read . . a little bit different than the other Jack Reacher novels, but suspenseful & entertaining nonetheless! Ending was a total surprise . . thought I had it all figured it . . but Mr Child surprised me :-)

Vignes de Jacques

Had to Control Myself. I’ve always enjoyed Reacher novels, (along with many other fans I realize). With such a long list of books, a fan is always worried about being let down, always worried about an author dialing one in on overdrive, just to keep a publisher happy. I’m pleased to report that “Make Me,” is stunningly enjoyable. I had to deliberately put down this book every few chapters so I would not consume it all in one go. One of child’s more chilling Reacher novels but eminently satisfying. Bravo.

Ksnxundb

Make Me. Maybe Kevin Nash of WWE fame as Reacher?!

Nukethe Gaywhale

Make me. Try making me buy another one. What a disappointment. Over lavished misinfo.

Lakewaco

Make Me, Not his best. Somewhat disappointing. Not as good as his other Reacher books. Too drawn out and not as good as ones where Reacher "kicks butt and takes names". Read if you can't find another good book.

Vespaman1

First Reacher book I struggled to finish. I've read every Reacher book so far and this one just felt like a regurgitation of previous ones. Very slow to engage, but I pushed through and just found it lacked a spark that previous books had. Not recommended.

Brflies

Make Me. As a fan of Le Child and an admirer of Reacher, this particular Reacher story is compelling. It is contemporary, creative, and fast moving. Make Me highlights all the traits that make Reacher a real hero. And he like the girls. Will make a super movie, but not with Tom Cruise. Stephen Segal is Reacher.

Big Jack Reacher fan

Make Me. Disappointing!! Lost me two thirds into tale with descent down to dark and wierd! Please do better next time or I'm lost forever!!

Za'arour

Make Me. Both writer and Reacher are burnt out.. The second bad book in a row!!!! Must find another.
