Disappointing. The references to the early 50's were the best part of the book. But it really felt like it was written for teenagers, not adults. And those references would be meaningless to them.
In the unlikely Event. Pretty good, not modern or for the young and restless. Perfect for the over 65 population who still memories of what things were like before Vietnam and they got to kill the rest of this generation of baby boomers. I'd buy it again.
In the unlikely event. This novel has a very intricate plot and a lot of different characters. It comes full circle with a nice ending, but borders on having too many characters, details, and plot twists to follow.
Love the familiar places. I enjoyed this book mostly because it was historical and it was about a place that I lived nearby growing up. I didn’t know what happened in the 1950’s in this city so this was all new to me and I had to “google” it to see what was true…..and it was! The characters are very interesting….
A fun read!. A fascinating story about 3 disasters and their effect on the people most closely involved, with a background of life in the early 50's -- how different attitudes and technology were back then.
Excellent Read. I found this book to be incredibly engaging. It was beautifully crafted, somehow managing to be a memoir, a love story, and suspense story all at the same time. Wonderful read!
Truth. Beirut why's hshs the her he ur ur ur ur ur ur ur ur bed rugby djc did rid it'd h the first tv tru t
No point. Written for young adults in my opinion, main protagonist ( not easy to discern in the sea of characters the author insists on including) is a teenage girl with whom it was difficult to relate to. Period references are rather mundane and predictable and the dialog is B-movie at best.
I don't buy it. This is a nice story but I can't get over the blasé hookup of Rusty and Dr. O. Selfish behaviour that breaks up families. So disappointed that this is treated as a happy ending. Also the characters of Rusty and Irene are written such that they'd never tolerate this type of dishonesty and betrayal. How are they so quick to overlook the major contradiction?
Excellent read!. The many characters were very interesting, intertwined and an excellent read!
In the Unlikely Event. I could not put this book down. A well written story based on true events. This is a must read!
Not my cup of tea. This is my first Judy Blume book and I can't say I liked it much. The dialogue struck me as geared to young readers though the few sexual scenarios were not. Also, too long, and it could have been a tighter story. Liked the interweaving of the crashes, however, and wished there had been more about the people on the planes.
Extremely disappointing. Not engaging at all..
Finally, a new book from Judy!!. I have been a fan of Judy Blume for over 30 years. Loved this book!!! Thank you, Ms. Blume for another wonderful book to add to my collection from my favorite author of all time.
Great summer read. I tore through this while on vacation (and, coincidentally enough, flying with a connection in & out of Newark International - got to the part about the first crash just as my flight was prepping for takeoff, which was *fun* in a tempting-fate sort of way), and was just glued to it through to the end. They youthful & old bits regarding reconnecting with young lovers much later in life, that pull, that temptation, hit really close to home. I'd love to know more about the interim Vegas years, but as it is, I thoroughly recommend the book.
In an unlikely event. This book is not your typical Judy Blume. At first with all the different characters it was difficult to follow and I assumed she was losing it in her old age. Actually it turned out to be a brilliant puzzle to which each character was intertwined. A beautiful story of uncertainty at any age in life from youth, middle age & even senior citizen. LOVED IT
Unexpected connections. This is a book with many characters. Each one of them was interesting, but it was at times difficult to keep track of each one of them. Somehow, the author manages to make all these characters to be somehow connected into an interesting life story.
In the Unlikely Event. At first it was difficult to go from character to character but with constant references to past events and families, Judy Blume managed to build all these stories from so many points of view. The characters do come alive in many different time periods. That must have been difficult for the author to keep it all in sequence! I know it is fiction, but the characters are so complex and real, it seemed like an autobiography. Thanks for writing this book and helping everyone see that change is good and productive in our lives.
Disappointing. I had to re-read the fist third of the book to track all of the characters, most of whom were minor and less than memorable, hoping I was just missing a major plot development. No such luck. Convoluted and rambling, I expected so much more from Judy Bloom. Thoroughly disappointing.
