Daffodils by Alex Martin
Daffodils by Alex Martin Book Summary
Book One of The Katherine Wheel Series catapults Katy and Jem into the global arena of World War One and changes their lives forever.
Cheadle is a sleepy village in rural Wiltshire, England. Nothing much changes and little family dramas provide the only food for scandal and gossip. Then WW1 erupts into the lives of these country people, leaving no-one unscathed.
We meet Katy as a young maidservant, restless for more than domestic service can offer and reckless to a fault. Katy has to develop and mature, as life throws joys and tragedies across her path and the war lures Jem away. Another man tempts her to stay home but in the end she too signs up for the war and in doing so, finds her true self, and discovers that the only thing that really matters is, after all, simply love.

Dafidils. Very well done. It’s hard to write about the intensity of war when facing the enemy. But whose the enemy. Good job of showing compassion for the Germans. Thank you. G
Daffodils. The story was well written. Appreciated the historical research to learn more about WW1. Am looking forward to reading book number two.
Hard to put down. The characters and storyline masterfully developed making this a book that was truly hard to put down.
Daffodils. Loved the storyline. So much pain from the war and poignant. I’m sure it truly was much like the story during the war. Tragic and touching.
Wonderful!. Wonderful, heartfelt and heartwarming story! Characters real and sympathetic. The horrors of WWI and sacrifices of time. Gentry and common man realistically described- real upstairs downstairs cultural differences - privilege vs staff. Loved this book, highly recommend!
Great history. Very heartfelt
Surviving. WWI, women serving the military, women suffering loss at home and abroad. Friendships forged in the fire of great suffering and sacrifice by young men and women. Love, surviving no matter the situation. Well written and engaging.
Daffodils. Well developed, layers, mystery & twists to keep interest. Believable, realistic.
Daffodils. What can you say about a book that has everything. Family, love, war, death, and mystery. Yes, well written material and she keeps you on your toes with every page turned. And as far the daffodils it just felt the new beginnings and hope in the story.
Good story but too long. This is a sweet story, but way too much unnecessary details which bogged down this reader. I literally flipped past pages of boring information that added nothing to the story. I only kept reading because i wanted to get to a happy ending, which it finally did.
Daffodils. I enjoyed this book once I got past the beginning. I felt the beginning was disjointed and that the characters weren’t quite developed enough to explain their actions. However, it did start felling better as the story continued. I became quite enthralled with it and read into the night to complete it, as I couldn’t put it down until I finished.
A Love Story for the Ages. An engrossing tale that takes place in the early 20th century. The fully developed characters take you from aristocratic England at the turn of the century through the horrors of WW I to the relatively new society of the post war period. It made me laugh and it made me cry.
Daffodils. It’s an okay read but I expected more. To much like a narrative with no conclusion. That is unless you want to purchase more books—not worth buying more in the series.
Daffodils. This book is a really good read. I recommend it!
Daffodils. Loved the story line. Exciting to read never know what’s happening on the next page. Definitely a love story
Daffodils. Just read it for the second time. A real treat.
Love when authors continue. I’ve not read much regarding WW1 so this was quite interesting as I felt I’d gotten to know Katie and her heart! Hated for it to end but excited to be beginning Peace Lily

Compelling reading!. This is a book that delights its reader. The characters are lively and so real and once started, I felt that I was right there. The descriptions of their situations are so believable. You fall in love with these characters - well most of them anyway. The book evokes that feeling of innocence that must have existed before the horror of the First World War was thrust upon that generation. My grandparents were in that war and became sweethearts and married. Grandad was a motorcycle courier in the war and grandma drove an ambulance. And after the war grandad became a car racing driver. I almost felt the characters were my family. Once embarked upon the journey of this book "Daffodils" I never wanted it to stop! The story of the book's heroes was fascinating and heartfelt. But end it did. I loved this book and I am looking forward to buying the next iterations. Chris Dixon, Katherine, NT, Australia
