Confess
Confess by Colleen Hoover Book Summary
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and It Ends with Us, a novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.
At age twenty-one, Auburn Reed has already lost everything important to her. In her fight to rebuild her shattered life, she has her goals in sight and there is no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a chance and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping a major secret from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
To save their relationship, all Owen needs to do is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin.

Couldn’t put this book down! Very well written ❤️

Loved it

Amazing. I couldn’t stop once I started reading it. 🤩

I absolutely loved this book! Definitely one of my favorites!!!

I love this book! This my third Colleen Hoover book and my favorite by far. I couldn’t put it down. Colleen has such a refreshing way of writing. I’ve read plenty of books that leave me dissatisfied but this one gripped me, I fell in love with Owen’s character. Thank you Ms. Hoover for delighting my soul.

This book truly kept me turning the pages and wanting more the whole time. The way that the author teased how Owen knew Auburn at the beginning of the book makes you feel like it may be from a negative memory but the way he knew her was truly unmatched. It’s so easy to love Owen and the way he cares for others and will do anything for the ones he loves even if it impacts his life in the greatest ways. The guilt he holds from the car accident is clearly there but the way you watch him learn to accept it and continue to help his father is beautiful. Auburns drive and love for her son is the sweetest thing and really incredible how she’ll do absolutely anything for him. The end is truly a mic drop moment when you think Trey has won but she comes up with the master plan to get Owen out of jail and get custody of her son. This book is one of my favorites from CoHo!

This book started so much slower than other Colleen Hoover books I’ve read in the past but got really good at the end

Wish I can reread to feel the emotions again

I could not put this book down! I fell in love with the characters and was not ready for it to end! Such a good read!!!

!!! great read, felt every emotion

I love me some Colleen Hoover but man did this book have a slow start and a slow middle. It really stared picking up towards the end and I loved every second of it. Also, the ending was incredible and worth it, so if you are having a hard time getting through this book just keep going it’s worth it!

I really enjoyed this book! Read it in two days.

This book was amazing I hate reading normally and this book has made me fall in love with reading again.

Absolutely speechless, it’s absolutely perfect

So good! Hoover never disappoints. Finished in 3 days!

Another great read by Colleen! This books isn’t long and you truly can finish it quickly. I enjoyed the elements of mystery that she added in this one. There was something missing for me that I can’t pinpoint in this book, otherwise I’d probably give it a 5 star.

Wow!! Every time I read one of your books I say “this one is my favorite”. Amazing writing! Just amazing! Enjoyed every minute of it.

I just can’t with her books! Out of all of them idk why this one is my absolute favorite!!!

Every time I finish one of Colleen’s books I think this one is my favorite and then I finish another one that becomes my new favorite. This was a beautiful book.

I’m not typically a reader, the last time I read a book for my own enjoyment was over ten years ago when I was 14 reading the twilight series… lol. But I’ve seen this authors name so many times and I’m a sucker for a good love story so I tried out her books. I’ve only read two so far but each of them blew me away. The way Colleen Hoover pulls at emotional strings while also hitting you with a twist you didn’t expect and then also giving the best endings possible, is incredible. I cried when I read both books, this one and “Ugly Love”. I can’t stop reading now and look forward to more!

Love the ending!

This book made its way into my heart.. I have fell in love with Colleen’s books and this one is no exception I feel like I can’t do anything else other than read her books!! Thank you Colleen for the books!

I finished this book in less than a day and sobbed my heart out throughout the last 100 pages. It’s heart wrenching and beautiful. Amazing amazing book.

Couldn’t put it down

Compared to her other works this was a bit of a let down for me, a lot of filler and Owen’s character was an exact copy of Miles from Ugly Love. Considering that it was overall a good read but not worth the price if you’re going to reuse characters. It didn’t give me fresh the more I think about it, it’s a combo of It ends with Us and Ugly Love. Which kinda left no surprises because knowing nothing those stories I already knew the plot behind this one. Beginning and End were the only good parts about this book.

Colleen, darling… you’ve done it again! I can’t believe how many times you’ve broken my heart with your incredible story telling! A must read for all CoHo fans, for sure.

I finished this so fast ,loved the story line .

one of my favorite romances ever

Absolutely loved loved this book!!!

I haven’t found a book from CH that I haven’t been able to read in one day. They’re all so good.

Beautifully written - I read well into the night because I couldn’t put down

I absolutely loved this book. The ending was amazing to read. I wish it kept going!

Title is an amazing fit for this book.

Confess is definitely a great read! It’s so heartfelt and perfectly described the lengths that love can go and how much love can endure. I loved the the beginning, middle and the ending was literally thee cherry on top! Colleen Hoover is so clever and descriptive and the added illustrations was definitely a pleasant surprise but an amazing touch! Would recommend 100%.

All of her books are so good but this is definitely one of my favorites yet. The end made me so emotional with such a good ending! Recommend this over and over.

I loved reading this book. At first I was unsure I liked it but I’m so happy I continued reading. Every emotion the characters felt I felt too and it kept me from closing the book. 5 stars all the way!!

I loved everything about this book.

I love her books!!!

Great read !!!!!

If not, maybe her BEST one yet. I read this in about 5 hours. I couldn’t put it down. I felt every emotional in my soul. It’s one of those books - you’ll laugh, cry, and get angry! So beautiful written! WOW!

Love how this story came full circle!

i don’t normally like slowburns but THIS ONE HAD A GOOD ENDING!

I read this in three days I could not put it down! Amazing!

She did it again. Beautiful.

As a person who has a passion in art. He was a brilliant artist. Shows you there are other ways to show your emotions. I love the storyline. This was definitely a quick look on how life can magically work its fate to your true calling. Read it and youll see what i mean.

Gosh, this book brought so many emotions forward! I’m a huge fan of colleens writings and this was a tear jerker for sure!

She pieced the puzzle together perfectly in the end, multiple ugly cries (beware)

I recently read "it ends with us," and LOVED it. I couldn't put it down. So I was excited to read more by Colleen Hoover. I did like this book, it definitely did not hold my attention like ends with us did. Still a great book though.

This book is so good! It makes you never want to put it down. It has a lot of twists and turns and makes you think one thing and then something else happens. A+

I’m a little torn when it comes to how I feel about this book. I did sit down and read it in one sitting & I absolutely ugly cried, it left me wanting more.

This book is amazing and I love how Colleen wrote the story and at the end everything makes so much sense and the book is not slow or boring there always something happening to keep you intrigued to the book! This book is awesome, I’m lose for words

Great story, I like how she writes and tells a story and this is the first book of hers that I read and very happy I did 😊

this was the first book I've read from Colleen Hoover & have since purchased a few more! This book was amazing and had me on edge I couldn't put it down or stop reading I really felt like I was in the book seeing all this firsthand, great read I would for sure recommend it

These three letters we all know will also mean something else after you read this book. Just wow! I've have read all the books from Colleen, they're all good but this one was amazing.

Another beautiful, tear jerker from Hoover. Please don't miss out on this one.

I have not experienced emotions at an ending of a book like I did finishing this one. It gets to be a bit redundant in the middle, but the end is definitely worth it.

I didn’t want to put it down!

beautifully written. cried

Was looking to get into Hoover after reading “ugly love” and liking it but not LOVING it so I looked into more of her books. This was my second read and while it seems to drag a little in the middle she GETS US THERE. What an amazing read. Started at 8:15 AM and sitting here at 9:15 PM I’m speechless.

This is honestly one of the most heartbreaking but beautiful books I have ever read. I never write reviews for books, but I had to for this. Read this if you need your icy cold heart melted.

This is one of my favorite books. I fell in love with Auburn and Owen instantly. I felt every emotion while reading; all the laughs and cries. It kept me on the edge of my seat with all of the twists and turns! I will forever recommend this book!

Another WOW book! You will hooked from the beginning until the end. A great love story, I couldn’t put the book down!

When I started this and was reading the prologue, I almost put it down. I’m glad I didn’t, an excellent heartfelt story.

Seriously this book is amazing. I cry like a baby at the ending this is probably my second favorite book after it ends with us. God I love Colleen. She’s amazing and get me right where it hurts. Everyone should read this book

This book was amazing

This is the fourth book that I’ve read of hers. I was so sure ‘It Ends With Us’ was my favorite but this book definitely takes first place. Wow! I cannot wait to read every book Colleen Hoover has ever written. Yes it’s that amazing! Love Owen so much!!

LOVED THIS SO MUCH. New favorite book, no doubt.

This book went way beyond my expectations, I can’t even put it into words. Like I say in every review I do of Colleen’s novels, her writing is impeccable and is no doubt my favorite to read. The way she builds her characters and builds these relationships through words is astonishing. The whole time I’m reading it feels as if I’m reading a strong story of poetry. It’s amazing! This story is about two unlucky souls who find each other through fate. They become inseparable, though the events that flow through the story tear them apart. It’s an incredible journey for them to find a way around it and I highly recommend reading to find out how they do it. Also, I could not have loved the ending more, though my heart squeezes a little at the thought of how cool it would have been if Auburn knew about Adam and Owens situation. Kind of like Hopeless in a way.

I’m not sure what I expected this book to be about but wow! The storyline was so good. This is the first book I’ve read by Colleen Hoover and I can’t wait to read another. The characters were so well written, the twists in the plot were captivating and I enjoyed every second of this book.

I’ve read almost all of Colleen’s books (and always read them in one day because I can’t put them down) they always pull you in and make you feel the feels. I always feel so emotionally drained while reading them though. Maybe Someday, Ugly Love and this book are my favorites!!

EPIC!!!!

My eyes are so puffy from crying. Cried in the first chapter & then on the last one. So captivating & the storyline is just ACE. 🙌🏽 Beautiful written. I just wish there was more closure but other than that, AMAZING!

This is only my second book I’ve read from Hoover yet both are my favorite out of all the romance books I’ve ever read (and I’ve read thousands). This book is perfection. Once I started reading I could stop, even when I was crying about what was taking place. I was immersed into the world of Auburn and Owen and couldn’t escape. I felt all the pain, all the tension, and all the joy they encountered. How Hoover gets me to connect with the characters and feel their every emotion astounds me. This book is a must read or even reread!

This book completely touched my heart and really opened my eyes to the world of domestic abuse. Colleen’s “note from the author” at the end of the story about her mother is so heartbreaking, but shows what an incredible woman she is. This is an amazing book wow.

This Book Made Me Laugh And Made Me Cry. I Felt What Adam Felt, I Felt What Owen Felt And I Felt What Auburn Felt. Took Me Only A Day To Read And From The First Page To The Last I Loved Every Word!! Besides Ugly Love This Is The Second Book Of Colleen's I Have Read.... I Wish This Didn't Have To End. Thank You!!

I'm not sure how Colleen Hoover seems to come up with the most amazing and memorable quotes, but she does every time. I'm sure you will notice my list of favorite quotes is the longest I've ever made. I even left some out because the list kept growing. Colleen's writing reminds me more of poetry or song lyrics than a novel. She invokes such strong emotions and feeling with her writing that I can only compare her to a very short list of authors. I love how Colleen waited until the very last chapter to reveal certain events that happened years before and had unknowingly impacted Auburn's life both in the past and the present. Yes, these events COULD have been revealed in the beginning of the story, but I felt like the mystery throughout combined with the revelation at the end added so much more emotion with a larger impact. I am slowly making my way through all of Colleen Hoover's books and as soon as I heard about Confess being made into a show for Verizon's Go90 app, I knew this had to be my next read.

Loved it make feel like you are there with them.

What a beautiful story. I’m not sure what I thought Confess would really be about but I loved how Owen, an artist, has a slot at his studio where people can walk by and leave anonymous confessions about anything they want. He uses these as inspiration for the art he creates, naming each piece with the confession. Owen finds a kinship with these confessions as he tries to cope with his own fractured past. Auburn finds herself living in a new city for very challenging reasons after the love of her life dies as a teenager. She needs another job and finds herself in front of Owen’s gallery where a help wanted sign is posted. It sort of feels like fate. We get to experience these two broken souls as they connect on that fateful night. With all the hurdles they each have to face, can they find a path to love? Will they let themselves realize that they deserve love? I loved every heart stopping moment of this incredible love story that also surprised me more than once with the wonderful twists and turns.

This book is amazing. I started reading it and could not put the book down, read it in one day.

I purchased the book and it keeps telling me error none of the pages will load.

This book was beautifully written and immediately had me engrossed. The amount of emotions this story evokes are amazing. I knew from the first page that I was going to love this and I'm so grateful that I picked it up by chance. It's such a beautiful story and I'm thrilled that it will grace my bookshelves forever!

Colleen Hoover is a fantastic author. Confess is the first book of hers that I read and I literally couldn't put it down. Within the next few days after finishing it I read 4 more of her books. I highly recommend!!

This story made me cry 😔 I feel so happy I ran into this book in the library ❤️ wow! Bravo Colleen! I would soooo love this book come to life! A movie 👌🏼❤️😊 I will definitely go to sleep thinking about this book! Excellent job👏🏼

She just continues to amaze me with her stories. They really pull at the heart strings.

Confess by Colleen Hoover is enchanting, caught me with every word I wanted to keep reading more and more of it, if you have the chance I would recommend reading the book!

I absolutely love every book I have read by Colleen Hoover but this one is by far my favorite....words can't even describe how beautiful this book is. All I can say is read it, just read it!

Great book!

I've read every single one of her books and they all blow me away in a different way! There is no writer that can compare! Absolutely loved this story! There's so much more I want to know! Maybe Someday and Ugly Love are still my favs by a small margin! I'm giving it a 4 star because of that and because I wish it could have been longer! Please never ever stop writing!!!

I Loved this book! It is so well written I couldn't put it down. The characters are so real and I loved the connection the characters had, even if Auburn wasn't completely aware of it... Owen is simply amazing. I plan to read ALL of her books. Truly an amazing author and I have read enough to know.

The story is so compelling that didn't want to stop reading and leave the characters. All the pieces didn't come together until the very end and when they did, it was beautiful.

Talk about a tear jerker!! This book had me balling my eyes out!! One of he best stories ever. Really made me believe in fate. It was just so unexpected. Love it!! Must read!!!

Wow this was awesome. Owen the troubled artist. Auburn appears to be his fate. His love for her just tears you apart. Her love for him has to build and grow. But their story is awesome. Great read.

Colleen you once wrote on FB that a person should continue writing until their story gets noticed and that you were very lucky. I have to agree. What you have many authors will never learn. I'm not sure it can be taught. We all learn to write in school just as most learn an instrument but in both cases I'm neither a writer nor a musician. Some people are blessed with talent. Colleen you are blessed with multiple talents. You are an amazing writer. An amazing poet. An amazing advice giver. When you write you open my mind and eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. You make me a believer. When I read your books I do not think these are a work of fiction I think these are probably based on someone else's life. I already feel the connection from the first few sentences in each one of your books. It's as if the whisper chill is running down my back at the way your words make me feel. Your words reach deep inside of me and create a world so different from what I currently live. I love the mystery behind the characters. Only giving and sharing small pieces of themselves for another time. I love how Colleen uses the simplest of things that most people take for granted and use it in a way that is memorable. Such as holding hands, staring into ones eyes, breath on ones neck, tucking hair behind ones ear, and caging someone in with there arms. The chapters switch back and forth between Owen and Auburn's POV. I love when authors do this. It gives instant perspective on how the other character is reacting to the situation. The story is separated into two parts. The name of the book was a bit deceiving at first. I thought it was a story full of people's confessions. Instead the concept for confessions was so much better than I originally thought. I was blown away by the fate that brought Owen and Auburn together.

Colleen Hoover has a way of bringing something new to the book world. Like when she had the talent of singer/songwriter Griffin Peterson write a 7 song album that went with her book Maybe Someday. This is one of the many things I love about Colleen Hoover. She brings all these different disciplines of artistic abilities together. Writing is an art, just like painting and songwriting; bringing these different aspects of art together and supporting other artists is pretty amazing to me. These collaborations are beautifully done and Colleen Hoover is a pretty awesome trend setter. I would very much be in support of more authors taking part in collaborations such as these. I love books that have a connection to the art world. For me, art is an extremely intimate and personal expression; I suppose as an artist myself I find a connection in characters that are artists. Owen Gentry is an artist that beautifully paints the confessions of others. Although, I should say that the artist Danny O'Connor's paintings are beautiful. Within the book you will find images of paintings mentioned in the book; adding a unique and intimate element to the story. I was able to create a personal connection with Auburn that caused me to understand so very much of what it was she was feeling. The situation she finds herself in is one that she never could have predicted or been prepared for. She is a young woman doing all that she can to be the best person she can for those she loves. As for Owen, he is doing the same thing. Protecting those he loves. The two of them realize that while protecting and doing everything they can for everyone else, they have sacrificed so much of themselves. They both begin to contemplate just how much of themselves they have given up, and when to say enough is enough. They find strength and courage in each other that they didn't have before and start to fight for a future that is far better than what they have been living. Writing is an art. An author "paints" a story for her readers, only she uses words instead of the stokes of a paintbrush. Slowly the colors are added, the mood is set, and the final product begins to take form. A completed picture that slowly comes together piece by piece, word by word. Confess paints a story of loss, heartbreak, fear, strength and hope. I read these pages and watched the story of Owen and Auburn come together, both their individual stories and the story they write together. At times there were paint strokes I didn't see coming and it would change the picture in my mind from light to dark. It broke my heart, but there was still beauty to be found beneath the sadness. I really really wanted to have an epilogue that was set a bit in the future just to tie off a couple of the secondary loose ends. I wanted to be able to paint that final picture of happiness in my mind.

I love all the paintings and the artist's interpretation of other people's inner most emotion. From Slammed to Confess, I've read every single book of Colleen Hoover and this is one of my favorite!

Review originally posted on Reading Books Like a Boss I jumped at the chance to read Confess when I saw it features an artist hero. Secrets, omission, and a little bit of fate are intertwined in this new adult romance novel about two people with pasts that they don't want to reveal to anyone. But they eventually reveal to each other, leaving the consequences scattered on the floor. While I thought this book was entertaining, it wasn't my favorite book by Colleen Hoover. I didn't get that "oh my goodness I have to know what happens next" that I look for when reading a really captivating book. I will say that the prologue to this book was super, duper sad. I think that may have been my favorite part of the book, actually. After moving from Texas from Oregon, Auburn Reed is starting over on her own. She serendipitously sees a "Help Wanted" sign at a local art gallery called Confess owned by Owen Gentry. The two have an instant connection and there is some mysterious magnetism drawing them together. Little is revealed about their pasts. All we know is Auburn visited an attorney in chapter one (for what?) and Own knows Auburn from long ago (what the what?). After a few hours together, they don't want the night to end. I started out really liking this book, but as I continued to read, I just got a little bored. Nothing was really happening with their relationship, not much was happening plot-wise. Confess lacked the same sort of spark that some of her other books had in the past. One thing I really like about Colleen Hoover's books is that her heroes are never super alpha, which aren't always my favorite type. Owen was a sweet guy whose past mistakes catch up with him. The intensity of Auburn and Owen's relationship was way too fast-paced for me. Hoover was trying to sell me an instant attraction/connection between the hero and heroine, and while they had chemistry, I didn't truly feel their love connection. After a few hours together, both were nearly weeping at the fact that they had to part. I thought that maybe would be explained away later and tie into the fact that Owen knew Auburn from the past. Hoover has made this instant attraction work in past novels, but here something was lacking in Confess for the reader to believe it. I wanted more background for both of them, more development in terms of their relationship, before we dove into "I can't wait to see you again" territory. 2 stars * I received an advanced copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. Unlike anything I've ever read. Once again, Colleen Hoover delivers!

Colleen Hoover has done it again! Another amazing 5 star read. Absolutely loved it!

Total page turner! Had to sneak away from work a couple times just to keep reading. Loved the characters. I was so sad when it ended. I need more....

I love the story 😍😭 Thank you Colleen Hoover 💗

Literally one word, PERFECTION 💖 I freaking loved it !!! 😍😍👌🏽

Honestly one of the best books I have ever read. Definitely a must read. I was laughing , then I was crying. It always kept me interested. An AMAZING ending too. I'm so glad I read the whole thing.

I loved this book! Colleen Hoover is with out a doubt one of my favorite authors. I always feel so much when I read her stories. I literally just finished this book and applauded, out loud. Simply amazing! While the story was a bit slow in the beginning for me, once Owen and Auburn really started connecting after her birthday, the story just took off. I really loved Owen and Auburn together! And the last three chapters really touched my heart. Honestly the whole Part 2 was just amazing and i couldn't put it down! And the art work was incredible. I loved the confession (even though some of them were so sad). I loved how Owen started is art studio Confess and the meaning behind it. Colleen Hoover came up with such a simple but unique idea and it made this book so much better. While this wasn't my favorite CoHo book, it is by far one of the best books i've ever read. <3

I've read every one of Colleen Hoovers Books. She has an amazing way of bringing the characters together and always with a twist. This was another fantastic book. You'll cry at the beginning, smile during the middle and cry again at the end. A great book. look forward to her next one,

I kept hearing mixed reviews of Confess but I personally enjoyed this story. Even though I agree with some who thought Owen and Auburn largely lacked the chemistry that Colleen's characters typically possess, the story was unique but definitely darker than her previous books. It held my interest and was just heartwrenching to read at times. It's refreshing to see an author collaborate with artists to bring a fresh perspective and deliver a new reading experience. I love the way she infused original art into the story much like what she did with music in Maybe Someday. The artwork was just beautiful! Couple that with all those confessions and you have the twists she is known and loved for!
