#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Jack Reacher returns in another fast-moving, action-packed, suspenseful book from Lee Child.

You can leave the army, but the army doesn’t leave you. Not always. Not completely, notes Jack Reacher—and sure enough, the retired military cop is soon pulled back into service. This time, for the State Department and the CIA.

Someone has taken a shot at the president of France in the City of Light. The bullet was American. The distance between the gunman and the target was exceptional. How many snipers can shoot from three-quarters of a mile with total confidence? Very few, but John Kott—an American marksman gone bad—is one of them. And after fifteen years in prison, he’s out, unaccounted for, and likely drawing a bead on a G8 summit packed with enough world leaders to tempt any assassin.

If anyone can stop Kott, it’s the man who beat him before: Reacher. And though he’d rather work alone, Reacher is teamed with Casey Nice, a rookie analyst who keeps her cool with Zoloft. But they’re facing a rough road, full of ruthless mobsters, Serbian thugs, close calls, double-crosses—and no backup if they’re caught. All the while Reacher can’t stop thinking about the woman he once failed to save. But he won’t let that that happen again. Not this time. Not Nice.

Reacher never gets too close. But now a killer is making it personal.

Praise for Personal

“The best one yet.”—Stephen King

“Reacher is the stuff of myth, a great male fantasy. . . . One of this century’s most original, tantalizing pop-fiction heroes . . . Child does a masterly job of bringing his adventure to life with endless surprises and fierce suspense.”—The Washington Post

“Yet another satisfying page-turner.”—Entertainment Weekly

“Reacher is always up for a good fight, most entertainingly when he goes mano a mano with a seven-foot, 300-pound monster of a mobster named Little Joey. But it’s Reacher the Teacher who wows here.”—Marilyn Stasio, The New York Times

Farewell To Arms. Just wonderful

Personal. Enjoyed this book very much..

Sfocdn

Done with lee child. Read all his books and always thought they were guilty mindless reads, but the last few have been really boring. Definitely will not be reading any more after this one.

Nike Athlete

Best one in a long time.. This is much better. Reacher is in the First Person. Good story. Good characters. It does wrap up quick in the end. Hopefully the next one continues like this one does. I liked it.

High Flyet

Personal. This was the one so far

Pia516

Personal. Too long, too wordy, improbable concept, skip Child's next offering.

Widowernewbe

Not Mr. Childs best effort. Kind of slow. It got better at the very long to get to climax.

Time is $

Boring. Not the Jack Reacher I know. Disappointing.

Mptk

Boring. Overly detailed to no point!

Teerob

Great read!. I am a huge Lee Child fan, having read all of his books. I keep waiting for him to slip and "phone" one in. But it never happens. Each book he writes is better than the others. Don't skim pages in this book or you will miss all of the subliminal pieces of the puzzle. Three seconds is a long time!

Singing ponca

Missing pages. My copy had 20+ pages without content. Such a big error. HUGE loss. Editors: get your act together.

Dr. McD

Surprise Surprise. As a longtime fan of Reacher and Child I've read them all - some more than once. I hate to say it, but this one was clearly the worst and rather disappointing. The surprise ending was a direly needed twist though far from saving the glacially slow caper. Half the time I couldn't tell who were the bad guys and who were the good ones. The conclusion was anticlimactic and far too long in coming. What happened to Jack? He's not the same Reacher his fans have come to love. Zero potential for romance and less than occasional chances for his character defining bouts of physical or tactical opportunities- a real downer. MDMcDMD, Orlando, FL.

Fred18293

Horrible. Who wrote this? Not Lee Child, that's for sure.

Edgework

Classic Reacher. As always, a good read. Lee Child does this sort of thing like no one else.

Tammy AR

Personal. Good story line

Uncdog20

Good Read. Reacher is always thinking. It is a good book.

Nhs68

Personal. I have read most of the Reacher books and this was not up to the caliber of most of the others.

MGillespie910

Personal. I love the Jack Reacher series and hope many of them will be made into movies. I know the purists don't particularly like Tom Cruise playing Reacher but I think he displays the right amount of swagger. All that being said, I think this book was "mailed in" by Lee Child or ghost written. The style doesn't match any of the previous novels.

Atco 1

ATCO 1. Really enjoyable read but not quite as music a page turned as his other Reach thrillers. This is really frustrating-I have made my review and am ready to move on but my review is not long enough.

Ms msudie

Excellent!. Kept me interested to the end. I loved the way the story developed and kept it going. I enjoyed every minute and couldn't wait for the story to develop entirely. Ooh ooh ooh, juicy!!!

Alanol

Simply a great read.. Finely woven plot. Well crafted characters. Flawless dialogue. Another home run for Lee Child.

Debciab

Personal. Fast easy reading that keep you on your toes guessing

Frenchy0674

Slow, Slow, Slow. I've devoured every Lee Child - Jack Reacher book, and this is by far, my least favorite. Way too slow, way too many filler pages. The only things missing were the overtly descriptive, flowery adjectives that most writers use to fill the pages, just to get the book length to a minimum. Still love the Jack Reacher books though, and hope the next one written will be similar to those written prior to this one. One more thing . . please don't sign Tom Cruise to play the part of "Little Joey" in the movie :-)

JoshWms

Personal. Might be the only Reacher book I have ever found boring. I hope the next one is better.

R4y80

Alright I guess. Jack reacher novels are some of my favorite out there. I have read them all!! I was so looking forward to reading this and find I'm disappointed the only times I read fast wast just to finish the book nothing like my favorite .persuader

Great Book. Another great Reacher ending!!!

Lee child PERSONAL. Not that interesting. A kind of long and a bite boring especially in the middle

Big Max 1

Jack Reacher is back. I am so relieved that this book is 100 times better than the last one. Whhhew. Quick, witty, and smart - Reacher has come back for sure, and it is a pleasure reading Personal.

Ckodom

Great read. Every book he writes is good!!!

Child-lover

Personal. Another great Jack Reacher story…simple& straightforward…until it doubles back on itself with crafty twists & turns

DLJMN

Jack Reacher Series Are Incredible. Love the Jack Reacher series. Very addicting.

The Benevolent

Not a Drill, the short story not included. Where is the short story? Bizarrely, it is part of the title but not in TOC, just a tease for newest book published half a decade after this one.

Bookdelsla;slkd

Tedious. Too slow moving. Plot is thin although a good surprise ending.

Joechaf

Surprisingly blah. If I were to list all the things I expect when reading a Reacher book, having my mind wander and finding myself a little bit bored would not normally be included. This book, however, just didn't grab me like virtually every other book in the series. The plot was interesting, if typically ludicrous, but I just had a hard time paying attention or even caring in parts. I hope this isn't the start of a trend, but this one just wasn't my favorite.

MKC in tears

Farewell to Reacher. I’ve read every Reacher novel and always looked forward to the next one. Unfortunately, this one was disappointing. The previous was already a little bit off the norm, but Personal told me I need to take a break from this author. Either the real Reacher returns soon , or this will be the last I read.

Earl C Grey

Yes!. Perfect balance at mystery and suspense, Childs knocks this one out of the park. His Best yet. Prepare to stay up for a few nights reading 'Personal'.

Ohyeahfun

Awesome. As usual Jack Reacher is at his best. Always thinking, always calculating and always planning ! Never count him out !

NP-55

Very good. Love these books

ForrestWalker

A little off. I have read all the reacher books and this one seemed too professional.

Grayling209

Personal. I have read all of the Jack Reacher series and this one was one of the best. Thanks Lee!

Birdcaje

disappointing. Not one of Reacher’s better adventures. The story has less action and more descriptive and peripheral writing than most of the others. The plot is straightforward and funnels the story to a simplistic and anticlimactic ending. Good enough to feed the avid Reacher fan’s habit, but this novel, compared with other Reacher novels, seems both tired and hurried with many of the scenarios coming across as forced or even unnecessary.

PatW5

Great settings, great story. This is one of Lee Child's best Reacher stories. Layers of intrigue throughout. Enjoyed the action thoroughly.

Bulletmutt

Personal. I am still trying to get through this very boring book. It is by far the worst of Jack Reacher. No action all just boring stuff that I read to put me to sleep. Only gave it three stars hoping the next will be better. I'm always waiting for the next one but sorry I bought this one. Hope you haven't killed Jack with this one Mr. Child

Capvvc

Bam.... Good read.

Sewn sew

Boring. I have liked every Reacher book except this one. This is the only one I could not finish. Practically no story line. Hope the next one is back to all of our expectations!

DJS6969

All jack reacher books.. I cannot wait till new jack comes out. But if you put Tom Cruise short whimpy Tom Cruise in another jack reacher movie I will burn all my copies and never read ur books again. Picture this all the people who read and love JACK 6/5 big hands broad shoulders good looking. Now picture this. 5/5 maybe less small hand whimpy voice small feet. Oh god makes me sick thinking about it. I’ve seen what others have written about Tom ugh playing Jack and their words were the same as mine. What joker would cast the least person that could play a part. Was it alcohol day then or what. Please please there are several guys who could play jack. Get them I didn’t even watch the last jack movie I would have sat there throwing up and being mad. Donna Swanstrom

Word play frenzy

Drawn out. I normally like all of the Jack Reacher books. This one had no substance. The story line was flat and drawn out. I couldn’t wait to finish this book and move on.

Hat36

Personal. This reads like overly long car chase, with a trick ending which makes the reader feel foolish for reading the book.

Personal. Another great "Reacher" story ....

BardHad

Read them all. Not real exciting and has a "ho hum" ending. The bad guys went down too easy and the story line is thin. Can't put my finger on what is missing now that was there before, but something is.

12roger21

Personal. Boring. Too wordy. Over description of everything. Too many words to describe things such as a door. Weak story line. Was disappointed as I really looked forward to this Reacher book. Not up to standard. Too bad.

Book Stinks

Personal. The absolute worst Jack Reacher book. It's like Lee took a street map of Paris and London and created a book about cars driving on them. Not worth reading...

Webelucky

Personal. As always a great read. I have read all of the Reacher books and love every one of them. Jack is my hero. The Reacher books don't come out in print or ebooks fast enough for me. Hurry up Mr. Child I'm in withdrawal mode.

Old Old Fordy

Personal. This isn't the Reacher we know and love. He's too talkative so that about half the 500 pages are dialogue, most of it his. The plotting is too facile and not up to the standards we've come to expect from the author. I miss the tough and rumble that endeared Reacher to me from the start. As well, I sense an attempt to cash in on the "success" of The Jack Reacher Movie. Why not give Liam Neeson a shot at the next attempt to bring Reacher to the screen? All that said, I look forward to my next encounter with Jack.

Aaaaate

Personal. Very good plot and as usual entertaining. Love Jack Reacher.

Limoleah

Personal. Loved the story but it does NOT include a short story. Bogus advertising

Cranky Professor

Reacher in Europe. Personal moves very fast. It's classic Reacher. There is also a nice travel angle with Paris and London playing supporting roles. HBO or Netflix should make a series.

JsauceMcnasty

Reacher. Amazing!! I am a fan!!

KMCCL

Personal. Another great read by Lee Child. My only complaint is...I can't put it down, then I have to wait so long for the next one.

Personal. THANKS!!!!!

Amirabear

Only good in the last few chapters. Not as good as the one previous. "Never go back" had my heard pounding the entire time. But "Personal" was very very slow. Only enjoyed the last few chapters.

Megwal

Action. Too much talking and not enough action. Good plot but I'm not satisfied.

Bryn girl

Another Great Reacher!. Yet another strong character with his own unwavering moral compass.

Ok rag

Avid fan. I've read them all. This was one of his best. I'm looking forward to the next Reacher adventure.

Sspeidel

One of the top 5. I reserve 5 stars for timeless classics, or else this would have earned that. Certainly as good as other lee child novels, and wittier than most. I laughed at "Sherlock Homeless".

Doc2589

Personal. I was anxious to get the new Reacher book. I was disappointed! Sorry to say. Too much descriptive info of everything under the sun. Every building, every street, every car, every hotel, every plane, every this and that, too much! And very little action. If you are a Reacher fan, it is worth reading, but NOT my favorite! Hope Mr. Child does more, but do better next time! Thanks.

Prof vg

Super!!. I have missed Jack! This one was classic. The cadence of the writing. Twists and turns. Action see on a micro level. I couldn't put it down! Great job!

Vevov

Personal. Just not as good as I wanted it to be same ole same ole.

Minden Jim

AGAIN!!. Lee Child's Jack Reacher is the most unique and compelling character in action literature today. Child only erred when he gave up artistic control of his work or allowed Hollywood to corrupt the brand by casting Tom Cruise in the title role. No matter, I'll read and others can watch.

No justice for Reacher

Personal. Reacher has been taken down a notch in this one. The thought and after thoughts. The descriptions had me skipping sections. No Justice for Reacher.

Texasfan2011

Great story. Best Jack Reacher book I have read in a while.

The Dudes

Top notch!. I’ve read all of the Reacher novels… And this was one of the best. Couldn’t put it down since the moment it was released. Well done.

7/15/2013

Personal. Page turner. Classic Lee Child.

SUPERMAN3030

Personal. I am a big Reacher fan. I wanted this book to maintain the high quality and fun of the books that preceded it. Unfortunately "Personal " does not. It was boring. This is the first Reacher book that did not keep my attention. I finished it only because I kept thinking, "it has to get better" but it never did. Unfortunately, no more that 2 stars.

Jax123456789

Good - not great. Slow with less action them past books. Long winded sentenced. Good plot that could have been made more exciting. Good ending though.

DMSJr.

Another great book to read!. This is another great read! Lee Child has written another book that kept my interest throughout and ended with an ending that I was not ready for. I have read all of Child's books and I will be just waiting for the next one!

DGbear

I enjoyed yet another Jack Reacher story.. I liked the book a lot.

Debikay45

Personal. Didn't keep me on the edge of my seat like some of his others. Ending was good, but I'm not holding my breath for the next Jack Reacher novel. Up your game, Mr. Child!!

Yellerhead

Personal. Great read! Compelling mystery thriller which keeps you guessing.

Bluetubes

Rock On Lee!. Another great "Sherlock Homeless" read. Thanks Lee!

Bluesman 007

Asleep At The Switch..zzzzzz. A definite bump in the road for Reacher fans. Way too much droning chatter - some not even that smart - stating the obvious. Slow on action - fast on long sentences that seem to meander. Child has lost his magic touch in this rendering of Reacher. Think I'll wait for Michael Connely's next one and pass on future Lee Child works......

Le mule

Personal. Lee Child and Jack Reacher does it again by keeping me up all night and not putting the book down until it was finished! Thank God for coffee...Black

Super Realtor

Too predictable, disappointing.. I waited all this time to read the new Reacher and this is what I get? It feels like a book that could have been punched out in a couple of months. Same Reacher, but too predictable. Get the bad guys, let the good guys live and throw a young woman in who, of course, against all odds, becomes our hero. I fell asleep a couple of times instead of reading this "through the night", and I usually can't put Reacher down until the final page, sentence, word.

Rick-Hollywood

Eh!. It was ok until the finish, then it became lame and weak. I've read this entire series and this was very disappointing.

Phlaschy

Disappointing. What started as a good entertaining read became an ordeal that lasted too long. Boring dialogue, tedious detail, and poor character development ruined this story.

Southpaw Center

Personal. This is a very poor excuse for a novel. I have read all the Reacher novels, and this is the second one that I believe was ghost written. The other was "A Wanted man". They are similar, in that a lot of time is wasted describing the key people driving around. It's unfortunate that a writer of Child's skill would allow such drivel to be published under his name. I am finished with the Reacher books.--- T. Dillon

Ultimate Ronin

Awesome. Great book, another Reacher classic. Can't wait on the next one!

Oregongrown68

Jack's Back and This Time It's Personal. Jack Reacher is back!!! What more does a Fan and Audiobook Reviewer need to say? Lee Child and Dick Hill are back with another story of Sherlock Homeless. Like all good military men and women when your country calls you step up. Even if wondering through the Beautiful Pacific Northwest (My Home). A sniper is loose could be one of hundreds trained by armies around the world. Does Reacher know them? Can he stop them before the strike the G-8 Summit? The chase is on and Jack has some baggage this time. A young CIA operative with little agency experience and no combat experience. Jack must teach her the ways of the wanderer. Jacks chasing a sniper and the CIA, MI6, and Russians are chasing Jack. This is a quick listen and Dick Hill puts all the flair and life into Jack and his friends and enemies that the listener has come to expect. The blow by blow fight scenes are discriptive and bring you into the moment. This isn't the best of the Reacher Books but it wets my appetite enough to make me hungry for the next book. I bought this book on my own for review.

Hill country Andy

Personal. I am an addicted Reacher fan,who enjoys the internal rumination of this character, as well as the snappy dialog . Add some very compelling plots over the years and you have pure entertainment.

Pearly3624

Loved it. Read it as soon as it came out. Loved it. Keep the Jack Reacher adventures coming.

Papillion727

One of his best!. I've read all of the Jack Reacher novels and this may be his best. Great plot that had me off track until the end.

JimTheDad

Far from being the best.. This is the first book of the Jack Reacher series where I caught myself skipping a short distance ahead due to the story being so slow. Unfortunately, this book is not on par with the remainer of the Jack Reacher novels.

SS in VA

Child's Best. I have read all the Reacher novels. This is clearly the best. Great plot, nothing contrived. Great suspense. Unexpected developments. I hope Mr. Child can continue at this high level. All his others were fun reads, but this was extraordinary. Thanks Mr. Child.

Heniobabykin

Personal. Boring, boring, boring last 3 books. My last book by this author.

Jorald

Personal. Spellbinding (again)! Having read ALL of the "Jack Reacher" series, this one is among the best. Waiting for the next one...hurry. JDean

DrHorn

Worst Reacher novel yet.. Did Child hire someone to write for him? Very little suspense, wordy, technical babbling, extreme hypothetical meandering along with small tidbits of the action we usually get I. A Reacher book. A waste of money and time. Skip this one!

Dmoneyyyy

Sorry wrong book. Oops

NY Taxdog

Not my favorite. Honestly, I had a hard time following some parts of the story. It seem to bog down at times in the middle. And the ending seemed almost anti-climatic. At the risk of a spoiler alert I don't want to say much more. Still a good Lee Child read but not my favorite.

Za'arour

Not his best. This is about equal to Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher. Too bad!

Muhls

Personal. Jack Reacher at his best--a virtuoso performance as a thriller superstar whose mind is as impressive as his fighting skill. And with a wing woman who is better than she thinks. Set primarily in Lee Child's native London, this novel gives us Robin Hood vs new-day hoodlums at all levels.
