The Burning Room by Michael Connelly
The Burning Room by Michael Connelly Book Summary
In this #1 New York Times bestseller, Detective Harry Bosch and his rookie partner investigate a cold case that gets very hot . . . very fast.
In the LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit, not many murder victims die a decade after the crime. So when a man succumbs to complications from being shot by a stray bullet ten years earlier, Bosch catches a case in which the body is still fresh, but any other clues are virtually nonexistent. Even a veteran cop would find this one tough going, but Bosch's new partner, Detective Lucia Soto, has no homicide experience. A young star in the department, Soto has been assigned to Bosch so that he can pass on to her his hard-won expertise.
Now Bosch and Soto are tasked with solving a murder that turns out to be highly charged and politically sensitive. Beginning with the bullet that has been lodged for years in the victim's spine, they must pull new leads from years-old evidence, and these soon reveal that the shooting was anything but random.
As their investigation picks up speed, it leads to another unsolved case with even greater stakes: the deaths of several children in a fire that occurred twenty years ago. But when their work starts to threaten careers and lives, Bosch and Soto must decide whether it is worth risking everything to find the truth, or if it's safer to let some secrets stay buried.
In a swiftly-moving novel as relentless and compelling as its hero, Michael Connelly shows once again why Harry Bosch is "one of the most popular and enduring figures in American crime fiction" (Chicago Tribune).

Interesting but juvenile writing. Plot is not too bad but too full of coincidences. The writing is, however, really amateurish, almost "see Dick, see Dick run." By far worse than his other books. Makes me think a cheap ghost.
Spoiler Alert!!!!!. Excellent , as usual. New partner freshens the series, while referring to prior characters ties in with earlier books for us " oldies." PLEASE keep Harry going, as a PI maybe??!!
Burning room. Excellent
Great book. I really like this author. His books are always well written and interesting.
Roll tide99. No substance to this book whatsoever-must've been a contract fulfilling title-Can someone find the real Michael Connelly PLEASE!!!!
The Burning Room. Hopefully this will not be the last we read of Harry Bosch. As a lifelong fan (Harry and I have aged along together), I know that all things eventually come to an end but I hope Harry and I both will have more time together! As are all Connelly books, this is a great story, with enough actual references to make it all the more engaging. Thank you, Michael.

No action.. Disappointed with the lack of tension, conflict, and dramatic action. The story just plodded along. Not one of his good reads.

Harry at his best. Another great read by Connelly. I have read almost every one of the Harry Bosch series and this is right at the top. Harry gets better with age.
Hoping There is More!!. I so enjoyed this latest adventure with Harry. I have followed his life from his time in Vietnam (Black Echo) through all his partners, lovers, wife and daughter to his present short time within his DROP contract. The "silverback" is back! Conelly's attention to detail and story development was superb. I just hope Harry will be back. There is still some time on his contract, and many more cases to solve!
Expected more. Come on Michael. You are so much better than this. What a disappointment. Hate to say it but it might be a while before I buy another Connelly book

The Burning Room. The beginning of was a little iffy. But the I couldn't put it down. Really enjoyed it.
mr.. Have fun connecting the dots. Will Harry get his pension?
Best Bosch Book Yet. For those who have followed Harry Bosch through the years, this is the culmination of Harry's career with the LAPD. The new addition to the detective squad is interesting, admirable and worthy of her own series. Michael Connelly can't write a follow-up fast enough for me!
Great read. An awesome book, a true page turner. Love Michale Connelly, a master story teller.
New Fan Signing In. Just would like to say "Wow". What a great story, enjoy it very much. This is my first but definitely not my last book "Wow". Keep up the good work!!!!!!
Entertaining Read. Good light-hearted mystery.
Worst Michael Connelly book yet.. Love all his other books ….. this one not good.
The Burning Room. I’ve read them all and this is one of the best Bosch books. 5/5 stars.
Not up to snuff. An ok read but not as well written as usual and story line strained
Love these books. Another good one!
The Burning Room. Captivating. The flow of the book was excellent, which fed the reader to continue to see the conclusion. Would recommend this book.
Another Great Thrill Ride. Let me just start off by saying that I may be slightly biased because I can never get enough of the thrill ride that I get from reading Mr. Connelly's novels. I am one of those eager readers who anxiously awaits the next book and preorders it before Amazon shows the official cover. Over the years I have had to deliberately slow my reading down to keep from reading it in a day and having to wait until the next book is released. With that being said, this book was no exception. The Burning Room was written with such realistic intensity that I was able to easily visualize each character, setting, and scene in the book. As always, I got so caught up in the "the chase" of solving the case that I could not put the book down and lost track of time. In the "Burning Room" Harry Bosch, the main character, appears to have been paired with his protégé (Lucy Soto). Although seen as a rising star by the higher ranks, it's clear that Ms. Soto could still use the wisdom and guidance of a more experienced detective such as Harry Bosch. As the pair start to work a case, Bosch began to learn more and more about his protégé and her reasons for wanting to become a cop. As the storyline unfolds we quickly learn that "the chase" to solve an open unsolved case involves a mariachi musician who succumbs to a bullet wound from a crime that occurred years ago. We later learn that this crime may also be indirectly linked to Ms. Soto's past. what happens next? Well I don't want to be a spoiler but I can truly say that you will not be disappointed. This is a must read with an interesting ending. So interesting that once again I am sitting on the edge of my seat, with a puzzled look, wondering what will happen next.
Got to have another Harry. One again Michael Connelly has delivered an excellent story Harry's bosses may want him to step down but I sure don't. We need more passionate, capable Harrys in our world
Please stab me in the eyes!. One of the most boring, slow stories ever written. I love Connelly but this was a lazy, off the mark effort. Perhaps both Bosch and Connelly should retire together

The Burning Room. Connelly at his best; thoughtful powerful. Doesn't lead you on rather escorts you through the streets and ethos of LA. Connelly expresses a sense of relationship and humanity. All the time without losing sight of the story and mystery of his story. Excellent read!!
The Law of Innocence. Excellent
Burning Room. A rather static plot that reads more like guide through the Los Angeles/California legal system than a typically thrilling and suspenseful Connelly book. Further, The author dwells a bit too heavily on father/daughter themes.
Simply the best. Bosch and Connelly are simply the best. Great stories, well crafted, and your heart is drawn in. Not many writers, and characters, can do this. Worth every minute, and piece of my soul.
The Burning Room. Great book. Lots of details. Horrible ending!!!
Fast moving and fun to read.. Fast moving. Can’t put it down. Loved the 2 case at a time approach. Would have tether seen I little different ending but that would have been too easy for a Connelly. Great and fun book.
Huge disappointment. I am a big Michael Connelly fan, and have read every book he has written. This was by far the worst book he has put out. I kept waiting for the pace to pick up, for some kind of action to draw me in, but it never got going. It seemed like Connelly just phoned this one in. Worst of all, the ending was pathetic. Not sure what happened here, but it was not good. I hope this was an aberration, but even if it was, that doesn't get me the money I paid for this book back.
Another great Bosch adventure. Thoroughly engrossing, cleverly constructed with a bunch of surprises. As usual we are allowed to guess what have have happened and what approach should be taken, and Bosch proves us wrong. Another great read, captivating and enthralling. I just wish the author would reference the many acronyms used rather than assuming we all know what they mean.
Great book!!!. I found this book a little slow in getting started, but once the characters and settings were in place it was a great book. I won’t get into the story for fear of spoiling it for someone else, but I wish one part of this book had a different ending, but I don’t think it would be possible.
Burning room. Great detective story...always enjoy Harry Bosch stories! This is one great fiction story....thoroughly enjoyed this tale! John V.

Read it in one day.. Great book for a Sunday afternoon, a soft blanket and a cold rainy day. Left a smile on my face
Good book. This author writes good books with lousy endings!! It kinda ruins the good book
The burning room. I've read all Connelly's writing's & this one is a "keeper"! Dr. James R. Appleton Jr.

Disappointed. I have read all the Harry Bosch books and enjoyed the ride. Great stories and Harry is a memorable character - I love the guy. But this book was just blah and in the end was a real downer. I unfortunately found it disappointing.
Good read. This was my first time meeting Harry Bosch, and I wasn’t dissapointed the least bit. I will definitely read more of Bosch’s adventures.
Good read. Easy read and keeps you in suspense. Although you can sort of predict some of the story, other than that it's a good read.
The burning room. Hope this is not the end for Bosch
The. Burning Room. Hard to put down.
Bosch. Just another great book by the best!
Slow reading. In this detective story, the chief asks the two main investigators how soon they will solve the case. You will ask the same thing? Often. This book goes on and on, slowly.

Interesting... Yet disappointing. Read all Michael Connelly's books... Loved them all... Except this one. I had the impression that the author rushed to finish the book... Disappointed by this one.
Good story!. This is an excellent Bosch novel. It's worth the purchase price.
The Burning Room. This is a tremendous read in true Harry fashion. His career needs to be much longer!!! I have read every Michael Connelly book & am never disappointed. Please keep writing these wonderful books!!!!!
Classic Bosch. The only bad part about this book was finishing it. I love Harry Bosch and really enjoy spending time on cases with him. I just hate it when it's solved.
The Burning Room. Another fantastic read! Please don't let Harry disappear from your books!
The Burning Room. I would prefer to give this a negative star, but someone (doubtfully Michael Connelly himself) took the time to at least put pen to paper, so I'll give it one. What pedantic, boring writing from one of my favorite authors on one of my all-time favorite characters. I didn't think it was possible to have so much expository writing in one book. By page 60 I was still waiting for the writing to heat up, let alone the story or the characters - it never did. What a shame to add this drivel to such an exceptional series.
Who wrote this?. After reading all of Connelly's other Bosch books I noticed a distinct change of style periodically throughout the book - no longer Connelly's voice, but seemingly a fill-in writer being used for the connecting scenes or background. If this is happening, the mimicry is poor. If the book was entirely authored by Connelly, he's off his game. Still a good story, but the changes in style, from Connelly to ghost writer and back, was very distracting.
LOVE. Once again, I have waited for months to finish a book in less than a week. I love Michael Connelly, and I LOVE Harry Bosch. I am praying he does not end with this book. Keep it up Michael!
Great story but. The ending was such a let down!
The Burning Room. Exciting Bosh adventure with several plots to keep you thinking. Lucy's character complimented Harry 's and that is refreshing in opposed to the opposite. The Ending definitely leaves a mystery for the next installment of the life & times of Harry Bosh. All the Bosh books are superb, including this one.
Middle of the road. Not the same intensity as in past novels. Revisiting past characters didn't add any value since the meetings were short lived. The ending is a repeat from prior books. I finished the novel but only because I paid.
Forced. Not one of his best. Usually really enjoy Harry Bosch novels, but it was like he wasn't into writing this one.
Gem!. Another Gem from Connelly...this one is easily made into a movie...
Beast book!. Really enjoyed this one!
Michael Connelly. The author's books flow with authenticity and clarity. I do hope that Harry Bosch will not be retired, as he would be sorely missed. Books are my opiate and I am ready for another fix from Mr. Connelly.
The burning room. This book was a very poor effort by Connelly. Lacked any excitement..too much chatter. Ending was an advertisement for next book.
Another gripping fantastic book. Michael Connelly never disapoints and this book was no excpetion. I wish I hadn’t had read it at fast as I did.
Loved it!. Good old Harry Bosch, my favorite Detective, I feel like I am right there with the characters, I see and feel everything Harry does, I see where Harry is going to crack a case, Michael Connelly is a master at crime novels, keep them coming!
the burning room. i'm a big fan but this one was a snooze. contrived, dull and annoying....start to finish.
The Burning Room. A good on. Thanks Mike.
Diehard fan.. Michael Connelly can't author a book that's not fantastic. It's not in his DNA! Don't stop MC.
One of the Best!. Any Michael Connelly book is good, but this one is one of his best. The plot is well drawn; the characters are realistic and human; and the continuity with prior Bosch novels is very clear. The best thing about Connelly is that all of the details are correct -- he is the only writer my wife (a retired police officer and PI) doesn't criticize with a "that wouldn't happen" comment as she reads.
The burning room. The most boring detective story I've read in a long time. Love M.Connelly, but, this was one of his worst books ever.
