A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens Book Summary
Celebrate the spirit of the season with this complimentary edition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol–the perfect companion for a cozy night by the fire. Includes an exclusive excerpt from Marley, Jon Clinch’s masterful reimagining of A Christmas Carol:
“In Marley, again Jon Clinch shows his genius, taking Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and turning it inside out, revealing its contemporary wonder, making the characters and actions of both Scrooge and Marley entirely modern, without losing a beat of Dickens’ Victorian music.” —Robert Goolrick, New York Times bestselling author of A Reliable Wife
“I am the Ghost of Christmas Present,” said the Spirit. “Look upon me!”
Since its publication in 1843, A Christmas Carol has become a cultural touchstone, imparting a message as relevant to our world today as it was in Dickens’ own Victorian age. As it tells the story of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve, the book reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas. This timeless tale of transformation and redemption makes a perfect gift for anyone who loves great storytelling.

Lovely story. that never gets old. We had a family tradition on Christmas Eve that each child in our family, and any outliers we could drag in, would read a few paragraphs with hot cocoa and sugar cookies we had made and decorated earlier with the fireplace lit…even though we lived in Florida.

I love this book. A great book 10/10
A new Christmas tradition!. As someone who enjoys watching Christmas movies a lot during December, I have always been a huge fan of more than one film version of A Christmas Carol, including the exciting 1999 made-for-TV remake starring Patrick Stewart as Scrooge. I also love the movies Ms. Scrooge, Ebbie, and A Diva’s Christmas Carol, three fun and sweet movies that offer modern twists on the story and usually feature a female Scrooge as the main character. I would definitely also recommend the 1988 classic Scrooged, a touching and hilarious classic starring Bill Murray. Because of my love for these films, I decided years ago that I would someday read Charles Dickens’ book to see if I like it. I loved it! I read a paperback edition, one I’m glad I bought from a thrift store, but I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Christmas stories, whether you like reading print books or digital books. It’s also pretty cool that there’s more than one faithful adaptation, but there are details in the book that makes it better than any movie, no surprise! One great detail is quite simply the writing itself. This might be a book that was written more than 100 years ago, but there’s a poetic feeling to Charles Dickens’ writing that makes this story absolutely beautiful! A great book that anyone should read to get into the jolly “ho-ho” spirit. Merry Christmas!🎄🎁

His works enjoyed unprecedented popularity during his lifetime and, by the 20th century, critics and scholars had recognised him as a literary genius. His novels and short stories are widely read today.Born in Portsmouth, Dickens left school at the age of 12 to work in a boot-blacking factory when his father John was incarcerated in a debtors' prison. After three years he returned to school, before he began his literary career as a journalist. Dickens edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novels, five novellas, hundreds of short stories and non-fiction articles, lectured and performed readings extensively, was an indefatigable letter writer, and campaigned vigorously for children's rights, for education, and for other social reforms.
