Ecellent read!!!!. I felt every heart break, disappointment, fear, loneliness, uncertainty, pain that Mr. Solomon felt throughout his uneventful journey. I'm so HAPPY to know that he had such a great ending! Thank God for the brave & caring Mr. Bass, he was a true heaven send!!

Stolen and enslaved

12Years a Slave. Again I write: This engrossing book certainly enlightened me to the atrocities of slavery in America's history. Written by an obviously intelligent mind of the tenacious Solomon Northrup, it is high on my shelf of best books ever.

Acoalbiter

Phenomenal!. Clear & concise account of horrendous experience living through 12 years being a slave.

EJE76

Very moving. Hard to imagine what so many people had gone through in the not-so-distant past. This is the second time I read this book, and I was just as moved as I was in my initial reading.

Excellent Book. Well-written account of the horrors of slavery. Very interestingly presented, with good characterizations. It would be difficult to dispute the authenticity of Solomon's portrayal, as he writes with the clear-headedness of an intelligent man who has no "axe to grind," but who is merely stating the facts of his life. I enjoyed reading it, even though the atrocities of mankind toward mankind are Painful to behold. It is imperative that we all remember the depths to which humankind can sink.

TaxCPA. This book was a great read. Sadly, works like this and other prolific, firsthand account writings are not commonly apart of high school required readings. Please read this and educate others with your takeaway. Best, TaxCPA

Bluejay1602

12 Years A Slave. A book I could not put down. A true account which was heart rendering and beautifully written. Explained in detail the deprivation and in humane treatment of a beautiful race of people that God created as our equals. So moving, it will stay with me for a long time.

Teraif

Everyone should read this. Gripping and moving. Written in the period described it allows the reader insight on many levels. It is not a cry for pity or vent of anger but a humble account. Humble words that bring the society and culture of the time alive. Written, brilliantly, I suspect to help the anti slavery campaign. It is fitting that it will now raise awareness in people of the lessons of history.

Torrens .C

Mr Torrens. Eloquently painful

About Author "Solomon Northup & Abraham Lincoln"

Stephen Northup (roughly 1630 – after 1687) was an early settler of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, and built what may be the oldest house still standing in Rhode Island. Northup was a fairly early settler of Providence in the Rhode Island colony, but accounts claiming that he settled the area with Roger Williams are inaccurate, since Northup was an infant or child when Williams first came to Providence in the spring of 1636. Northup lived in Providence from 1655 to 1666, after which he moved to the Narragansett country (what is now North Kingstown, Rhode Island), which land was claimed by both the Rhode Island and Connecticut colonies. He may have owned or operated a grist mill, and is credited with building a house that still stands and is used as a private residence. Northup was married, had six known children, and lived until at least 1687, when he was taxed. He was the great grandfather of Capt. Henry Northup who left Rhode Island to settle in Hoosick....
