NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A Cotton Malone adventure involving a flaw in the United States Constitution, a mystery about Abraham Lincoln, and a political issue that’s as explosive as it is timely—not only in Malone’s world, but in ours

September 1861: All is not as it seems. With these cryptic words, a shocking secret passed down from president to president comes to rest in the hands of Abraham Lincoln. And as the first bloody clashes of the Civil War unfold, Lincoln alone must decide how best to use this volatile knowledge: save thousands of American lives, or keep the young nation from being torn apart forever?

The present: In Utah, the fabled remains of Mormon pioneers whose nineteenth-century expedition across the desert met with a murderous end have been uncovered. In Washington, D.C., the official investigation of an international entrepreneur, an elder in the Mormon church, has sparked a political battle between the White House and a powerful United States senator. In Denmark, a Justice Department agent, missing in action, has fallen into the hands of a dangerous zealot—a man driven by divine visions to make a prophet’s words reality. And in a matter of a few short hours, Cotton Malone has gone from quietly selling books at his shop in Denmark to dodging bullets in a high-speed boat chase.

All it takes is a phone call from his former boss in Washington, and suddenly the ex-agent is racing to rescue an informant carrying critical intelligence. It’s just the kind of perilous business that Malone has been trying to leave behind, ever since he retired from the Justice Department. But once he draws enemy blood, Malone is plunged into a deadly conflict—a constitutional war secretly set in motion more than two hundred years ago by America’s Founding Fathers.

From the streets of Copenhagen to the catacombs of Salzburg to the rugged mountains of Utah, the grim specter of the Civil War looms as a dangerous conspiracy gathers power. Malone risks life, liberty, and his greatest love in a race for the truth about Abraham Lincoln—while the fate of the United States of America hangs in the balance.

Harry Rockwell

H Rockwell. It's unfortunate that this book trashes a wonderful group of people to build a weak storyline

Bobxxxz

A disappointment. The author stretched to find a reasonable storyline but failed. What he wrote went beyond plausible & ruined the story.

Informed and disgusted

Waste of time. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I was extremely offended at Berry's book. This is the first book I've ever read from that author, and because of his lack of integrity in how he portrayed leaders in the church I would not trust his opinion in any subject. He certainly doesn't let truth and facts get in the way of his agenda. I will never read another one of his books.

The Lincoln Myth. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I feel that Mr. Berry wrote a fine story. I would like to thank him for his sensitive approach toward the church history, and doctrines. They were well researched.and accurate. The story is very difficult to put down. The chapters are clear, and well defined. Again thnk you for a very well written story

The Lincoln Myth. I am a Huge fan of Steve Berry and have read and own everything he has written. My only hope is that Mr Berry reverses his course and does not slip any further into the "Dan Brown Style/Genre" of writing. For the first in any of his books, he has repeated a thought or information so many times that I had to take a break just to cool down. I will continue to be a fan though and look forward to his next offering........ Mike T Camano Island, WA

Very slow. Not up to the author's usual excellent standards. Takes far too long to unravel the Lincoln secret. And the secret is not much. Skip this one.

The Lincoln myth. Great. Fun and filled with history with twists you never knew. Great stuff about Lincoln civil war and Mormon religion and its history. Absolutely love Barry's. Writing mixing suspense with history fact and speculation. Can't wait to read another cotton Malone series. Highly recommended

Doc 56473

The Lincoln Myth. Interesting book with a good mixture of history and fiction. A bit slow at times but overall a good read.

Wanted to Love It. I really wanted to love this book. I am a fan of Cotton Malone and enjoy reading his adventures. I felt this story was convoluted and at the end I didn't feel the Ah-Ha moment of clarity. I'm still unsure on the importance of several events. If you are also a fan, read the book. It's fun to go into Steve Berry's world. If you are not, pick another book as your first read.

The best so far. When I find an author that I like, I try to read all of his works in order. It keeps the plot lines in order and it really allows one to see the evolution of the craft. In this case, the leap from the previous Cotton Malone book was huge. I look forward to starting the next hoping for the same leap.
