Something Unexpected
Something Unexpected by Vi Keeland Book Summary
A new, sexy standalone from #1 New York Times Bestseller, Vi Keeland. When my grandmother found out she didn’t have long to live, she embarked on a crazy trip—jumping out of airplanes and scuba diving with sharks. After I repeatedly voiced my concern, Gram blocked me—her own grandson—on text and social media, leaving me only her travel companion Eleanor’s number. Eleanor started sending me pictures of Gram’s adventures. At first she seemed nice, but when I attempted to persuade her to talk some sense into her friend, she told me where I could stick my advice. After that, photos arrived with snarky comments, and Eleanor and I got into it on more than one occasion. When I heard Gram’s upcoming plans were more dangerous than ever, I hopped on a plane. Since I arrived late, I headed to the bar for a drink, figuring I’d surprise her in the morning. To my delight, I met a gorgeous woman looking for a no-strings-attached night. Nora was just what I needed. She invited me back to her room, telling me to give her a ten-minute head start. But when I went to pay her bar tab, I realized how much she’d had to drink. As much as I wanted to ignore it, I couldn’t. So I stood Nora up. I knew she’d be pissed, but I also knew I’d never see her again. Except never came a little early. Namely, the next morning when I went to meet my grandmother and her evil-spinster friend. Because old Eleanor turned out to be young Nora from last night. And if I thought the woman disliked me before, that was nothing compared to how ticked-off she was now. Or how unhappy she was going to be that their party of two was about to become a party of three.

I have been in a bit of book funk. And this book reeled me right back in! I Love This Book!! Nora I won’t try with her 49 years older than her bestie. She is running interference between Louise’s grandson and Louise. Because he is a grumpy stick in the mud who has interest in keeping her safe and not living out her bucket list. While on their trip she runs into a HOT guy at the bar. And guess who it is??? Mr. Grumpy Grandson!!! Beck is dreamy. Dominate. Sweet. And loved his grandma. So much. Nora is dynamite. A phenomenal Friend. And a free spirit. This perfect is perfect. Dialogue, plot, characters you fall in love with. Soooo well written. Highly, highly recommend

Vi has outdone herself with this story. Everything about this book was definitely Something Unexpected. Nora and Beck are hands down my favorite Vi couple. Especially Beck...this man is one of my top book boyfriends. There is something special about when the guy falls first and the hardest. Beck wasn't looking for a relationship. He was happy with his no strings attached situations he had with women. He was busy with work and taking care of his daughter on the nights that she was with him. And with his grandmother being sick again now that her cancer has returned, he is more focused on the fact that he is going to lose her. But she is living her best life and doing all the things that she put off for years because as well all say "Oh I will have time for that later". She is doing all of these things with her friend, Nora. Beck thinks that Nora is someone closer to his grandmother's age...not his age. So when he meets her, he is pretty much knocked off his feet. Nora is happy living her life and having the best time with Louise. She is getting to do things that have been on her bucket list while helping Louise knock things off her own list. These two are the best of friends, age is just a number after all. Nora feels that Beck is just overbearing and can't accept his grandmother's wishes. But over time these two develop a bond and closeness that neither of them particularly wanted, they just can't fight it either. Nora is determined to keep Beck at a distance, he's just a lot tougher than she gave him credit for. Vi was able to do something to me in this story that doesn't happen often...she made me cry. I had to stop reading a few times to clear my eyes. While Beck was trying to be so tough on the outside, he was a total softy on the inside and I loved him so much. He is seriously my favorite Vi hero ever. At times the way Nora was acting was really bothering me. But when her truths came to light, everything made sense and I definitely could understand where she was coming from. Not sure how Vi is going to top this book but I will be happy to see her try.

Wow! Something Unexpected was definitely an Unexpected story and one of my absolute favourite reads of this year! This book was brilliant and gave me so many feels. Im really not sure how my review will do this book justice! Beck, his grandma, his brother and Nora are characters that have embedded themselves in my heart. Grandma Louise an an absolute hoot. However the underlying sadness in this story, coupled with the live life to the fullest moments, made me think, wonder and hope for all involved. Ms Keeland has outdone herself in writing this masterpiece. Absolutely wonderful and a definite must read!

Whenever I pick up a new book from Vi Keeland I know it will be a well written, memorable story that will draw me in and hold me captive until the last word. From the first word Ms. Keeland had me hooked. When I read the blurb I knew that this was going to be one of those stories with characters that you cannot help but fall for and I was right. Eleanor (Nora) and Beck, I loved them both. The sparks flew between these two the moment they met and didn’t sizzle out. There was so much passion, romance and witty banter that I had a hard time putting this down when work got in my way; it also moved me to tears. An unforgettable story and one I cannot wait to listen to in audio.
