The Covenant of Water. Way overhyped. Saw Oprah gush over this book so I had to read it. Way too long and at the end I was underwhelmed. The continued theme of the “condition” was odd. The ending was not satisfying. And it took so long to get there.
A book of life. Beautifully written, wonderfully wise, it will bless you.

This author is the best. I have waited a long time for this author to write another book. This beautiful story is just as wonderful as his last. I really enjoy how he writes, his words are like a beautiful play. I think both of his books should be a movie.
What a beautiful history and Story Telling. Abraham takes us through generations of “conditions” of life and the heart in this novel. You can feel the emotions of all of the characters. Thank you 🙏🏽
I loved every sentence. Moves along at a tremendous pace, drawing us in to the vibrant and wild and extraordinary lives of each protagonist. Verghese is a brilliant and deeply compassionate write, and each of his uniquely marvelous characters will stay with me for a long time.
Don’t Fall For the Hype. Cutting for Stone was a good book…. not great, but definitely good… This not so much. It’s still overall just another “family epic” that follows the same pattern of all such books. Certainly the place and it’s culture are different, but in the end it’s a typical book that you’ve read before. Redundant descriptions, overly descriptive on food and smells and land, uninteresting characters glossed over, and of course the matriarch who saw it all. Meh. We need to stop trying on these celebrity book clubs because at this point they are starting to appear as just industry vehicles designed to sell books. This is another example of just such a book… And it’s easily passed over. Disappointing.
Rich and fulfilling saga. I so loved this book and all its characters. It was engrossing and a beautiful tale of love loss and persistance. It was a true experience to read this lovely story. Thank you to the author.

Abraham Verghese (born 1955) is an American physician, author, Professor of the Theory and Practice of Medicine and Vice Chair of Education at Stanford University Medical School. He is also the author of four best-selling books: two memoirs and two novels. In 2011, he was elected to be a member of the Institute of Medicine. He received the National Humanities Medal from President Barack Obama in 2015.
