A couple who broke up months ago pretend to still be together for their annual weeklong vacation with their best friends in this glittering and wise new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t.
They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.
Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blissful week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most.
Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place. They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best?

Silly Premise. Book is based on a couple so arrogant that they can’t tell people they broke up? What makes them so special to go to those lengths to keep up a meaningless ruse. Why would anyone care?

Loved it!!!. Almost 2 days of my life gone. I could not stop reading and when I did manage to, I was thinking about how quickly I could get back to it.

The Big Picklr

Great Read! Even for the Guys!. As I man I usually don’t read this type of book. It is well written and kept me completely engaged. I would highly recommend Happy Place.

My summer 2023 beach book. Just right for what I was in the mood for.

TW/ so many drugs in this book. This is a drug book masquerading as a rom com. How can you root for the main characters when they are constantly doing drugs? Very unrealistic for a med student. Someone should check on the author and see if she needs an intervention or more inspiration. I know she lives in Ohio and it is boring, but it isn’t that bad.

Anne Mead

Happy Place. Too sappy! These people are not real.

DJ Dirt

Repetitive. The author just kept repeating herself. Over and over and over.

Great until the end. Trying to write without spoilers but I love the friendship between every character! It feels so magical BUT the ending leaves me cut off. I wish there was more build up to the actual ‘goodbye’. And then the two main characters aftermath seemed quickly written.

Shirley salanoa

beautiful. was a slow beginning, took a while to hook into me, but when it did, i finished 80% of the book in a few hours!!!!

It was ok. I had to finish this because I really needed to know the ending although I'm glad how it ended I didn't think the book was that great. Super basic read ...tik tok really inflated my expectations.

Loved it!. Another great book by Emily Henry! Love her books

Read this book. Really heartwarming and easy to read. I could not put this book down. The characters were so good, and it reminded me a friends and family of my own.

Wicked Sweet & Cozy!. Wyn & Harriet have become one of my favorite book couples. It was a very sweet read, and a relaxing one. As someone from New England, I enjoyed this a lot. Highly recommend. 4.5 ⭐️

A perfect summer read. This is the third book I have read by Emily Henry, and the best one yet. Without sharing too much - yes, it’s a love story like all of her books, but I appreciate how the love story here expands to themes of self love, friendship and the complexity of family. The things that go unspoken - assumptions, expectations and internalizations. I flew through this book, which I only regret because it’s not even summer, so now I’m not sure what I’m going to read on the beach! If you like easy reads that hook you, and maybe give you a bit of the feels, Happy Place is a great selection.

Absolutely Incredible. My therapist will certainly be hearing about this one

Loved this book!. Read the first two chapters after I finished up People We Meet On Vacation and read through this twice as fast! Couldn’t put this down, loved every second

Easy great read. Could be a movie, a great easy read.

MUST READ. This book filled me with so much joy. Wyn and Harriett were a match made in heaven. The story of friendship brought tears to my eyes. Would recommend and read again!

Never cried so much to such a happy book!. I’ve never had a book touch me in the way this did. The way the author writes, the emotion, the relationships, it’s all so beautiful. 100% recommend. Will always come back to this one.

A true test of time, relationships and love.. A really easy, funny, deep in thought moments of a read. Thank you. ❤️

Listen to moi

just perfect. I have no words

Veronica L. Coates

Loved it. Great characters and love story. Perfect beach read!

Just okay. Maybe my expectations were too high considering the rave reviews, but I didn’t love it.

Not so happy place for me. Had a hard time enjoying this book.

Em C.B

This book was my Happy Place. Life lessons from each character and a love story that made my heart burst with every emotion. Loved this book 10/10

Boring. I’m bored. What is the point of this book ? is it supposed to be a romance? Is anything interesting going to happen?

Meghan Harris

Overhyped. It was a good book don't get me wrong, but it was lacking a captivating plot. Personally, I found that it was a little too slow. There is no doubt that Emily Henry is a great writer and I would love to read her other books. I recommend this book to a reader who loves romantic stories

Loved this book! Summer vibes in Maine 🩷. “Everything is changing. It has to. You can’t stop time. All you can do is point yourself in a direction and hope the wind will let you get there.” 🩷🦞🩷🦞🩷🦞🩷 I LOVED this book! 🩷 The humor and pining was 👨‍🍳💋 I felt like I was there. Summer vibes in Maine are near and dear to my heart. I’m a New Englander, so this book just felt like home 🏡 I highly recommend this book 🫶🏻 💕 Second Chance 🏘️ Small Town 💍 Fake Dating 🦞 Summer on the Maine Coast 🎂 30 Year Old Heroine 👭 Amazing Friends Group 📖 Bookish Heroine 🗓️ Dual Timeline ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️/5

Great read!. Great read

Great book, but too long. I really liked this author and I enjoyed this book a lot. However, I felt like there was so much focus and time dedicated to the main relationship (especially in the flashbacks) so I wasn’t as invested in the friendships which was the most compelling part for me. If she cut that out and made it 15% shorter it would have been better.

Pitiful writing. Waste of time. Too much sex. Absurd ending.

Really?. Sadly a pathetic story of obsession but aren’t all romcoms? Thankfully the main character dropped out of her residency. She would have made an awful surgeon!

Bad beach read…. Not much positive to say about about so much poof.

Simplistic and predictable. This book was just okay. It was definitely predictable and not terribly clever.

I devoured this book!. Couldn’t put this down, read it in two days! It was delicious, charming and so satisfying.

Cut it in half. Good story but way too long.

Had me crying near the end!!!. If you’ve ever been in a long term, long distance, or inconveniently timed relationships, be warned! I picked this up because of how much people seemed to love it. To be honest I find Emily Henry books to be hit or miss so I didn’t know what to expect going in. I just found the characters so relatable, the friendship they have, their relationships with their families, and their struggle figuring out how and when to hold onto the past in order for the future to grow. I would definitely say if you are in your late 20’s/early 30’s it probably will hit home a bit more due to the transirons they are navigating in this one. Emily did good on this one! One star off for the lack of smuttiness. My only note would be that while the sexually tension/chemistry between Wyn and Harriett was very apparent, I feel like there definitely could have been more smut in this one. Even the few scenes she painted were VERY MILD. It was like there was a lot of build up and no reward. If I could combine the smut from Forever Never by Lucy Score and this book it would be perfect!!

Summer read. It’s a book that can be put down and picked up . Enjoy the nice days by the pool and read, or go to lunch, and read at nite. It tells you about all the characters in the book you are able to relate to one of them or all of them , also very easy to picture the places I your mind. A good book that lets your mind escape

Such a good read!. Thoroughly enjoyed and couldn’t put it down. Not what I expected at all but so happy I picked it up.

Crazy quickdraw

Couldn’t put it down. Loved all of the characters. Loved the story of their friendship! And I couldn’t stop reading the story of Wyn and Harriet….couldn’t wait to find out how their story ended. Now, I’m sad it’s over! Easily my favorite read of the summer!

All the feels. She has a way of writing that makes you experience all the sorrow, love and joy in your tummy. Real feels in this one.

Disappointing. Compared to her other books this one was boring. Ok but hardly laugh out loud.

Too predictable. It took everything in me to finish this book. It was too predictable and way too sappy. It’s like the Friends show but all of the characters were so out of touch with reality. They all need some serious help and everything was wrapped up in a tidy little bow, too much so that it’s not believable.

End. Boo to a moderately happy ending.

People and places to love!. Loved this quick read. Henry makes the people and places so real you fall in love again and again.

Live, love and be happy!. I loved these characters—especially Wyn and Harriet and rooted for them to wake up and keep loving each other! This group of friends was a blast to hang with and reminded me of summers in my happy place with my besties! A great summer read!

Slow and boring. I really couldn’t get into this. I wasn’t hooked from the beginning and I had to push myself through it. The story line was just so/so and definitely not a surprise.

Eh. While I enjoyed the book, I really love her “Book Lovers” book better. Maybe it was all the flashbacks that threw me off, I’m not for sure. It was just okay in my opinion.

KC McKay

Disappointing. Like a hallmark movie, the woman gives up everything for a man who is suddenly and incongruously rich.

Fun and addictive. A love story that resonated with me. Fun and addictive; couldn’t put it down.

Couldn’t put this down. Guilty pleasure read. Loved the story! The characters did feel a little too similar to People We Meet on Vacation. But besides that I loved the plot. Didn’t intend on liking it as much as I did

Soul Crushingly Amazing. this book broke my heart over a million times - and built it back up two times over - phenomenal

Best book I have ever read. Such a beautiful story about love, friendship, and growing up. Emily Henry is always a must read for me, and every time she releases a book, it becomes my new favourite.

Literary Littlefoot

Beautiful. A truly beautiful and touching book. Every part of it felt like a delicious meal for the soul. The characters are imperfect, the challenges are realistic and the tone all around is about growth, about finding your safety. 5/5

Heart warming and relatable. It started a bit slow for me, and it took a while for me to connect to the characters, but in the end it felt like a nice warm hug.

Not a fave. Glad the writer hit #1 an doesn’t have to rely on my review. This was hard to get through, boring characters, plot was drivel, struggled to get through to the end. Thank goodness it’s finally over.

Just ok. I guess the main reason I didn’t like this book was because it didn’t live up to the hype people were giving it. I felt this was a slow read that was pretty predictable.

Slow and boring. I really couldn’t get into this. I wasn’t hooked from the beginning and I had to push myself through it. The story line was just so/so and definitely not a surprise.

Dribble. Dribble and drab. A young adult book at best. I’m a fan of the writers easy beach reads, but this was definitely not her best. It shows how good marketing and not good writing can get you on the NYT top list.

You think she can’t do better and then she does!. This is one of those books that you feel in your soul. It’s now one of my happy places. 💜

Could not put down. I have never read a book that felt was more for me. I loved every minute!

Didn’t want it to end!. A lot of books are slow to start for me but this one had me hooked from the beginning. I usually find books pretty predictable but I honestly wasn’t sure how this one would end. Loved the characters and the setting!

Love. It was a great read, love the characters, and could not put this down! Finished it in one day!

I read it in one sitting !. This book was better than I expected. I didn’t want to put it down !

Great read!. I loved this story. The ins and outs and trying to imagine myself in the characters shoes (thinking I’d never be able to deal with that). One of my favorites of hers!

Phenomenal. Everything about this book is magic. The emotions and the characters are so perfect. There is something in for everyone and I felt truly touched at parts. Amazing! I already want to read it again.

Meh. I could not get in to it. Characters were not interesting enough. And I couldn’t continue reading. Made it half way through and stopped.
