How to Talk to Anyone by Leil Lowndes Book Summary
"You'll not only break the ice, you'll melt it away with your new skills." -- Larry King
"The lost art of verbal communication may be revitalized by Leil Lowndes." -- Harvey McKay, author of “How to Swim with the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive”
What is that magic quality makes some people instantly loved and respected? Everyone wants to be their friend (or, if single, their lover!) In business, they rise swiftly to the top of the corporate ladder. What is their "Midas touch?"
What it boils down to is a more skillful way of dealing with people.
The author has spent her career teaching people how to communicate for success. In her book How to Talk to Anyone (Contemporary Books, October 2003) Lowndes offers 92 easy and effective sure-fire success techniques-- she takes the reader from first meeting all the way up to sophisticated techniques used by the big winners in life. In this information-packed book you’ll find:
9 ways to make a dynamite first impression
14 ways to master small talk, "big talk," and body language
14 ways to walk and talk like a VIP or celebrity
6 ways to sound like an insider in any crowd
7 ways to establish deep subliminal rapport with anyone
9 ways to feed someone's ego (and know when NOT to!)
11 ways to make your phone a powerful communications tool
15 ways to work a party like a politician works a room
7 ways to talk with tigers and not get eaten alive
In her trademark entertaining and straight-shooting style, Leil gives the techniques catchy names so you'll remember them when you really need them, including: "Rubberneck the Room," "Be a Copyclass," "Come Hither Hands," “Bare Their Hot Button,” “The Great Scorecard in the Sky," and "Play the Tombstone Game,” for big success in your social life, romance, and business.
How to Talk to Anyone, which is an update of her popular book, Talking the Winner's Way (see the 5-star reviews of the latter) is based on solid research about techniques that work!
By the way, don't confuse How to Talk to Anyone with one of Leil's previous books, How to Talk to Anybody About Anything. This one is completely different!

GREAT!. I wasn’t going to read this book because the title can be misleading . I thought it was going to be redundant and 92 paragraphs of the same stuff over and over . BUT this isn’t that , this books allows you insight on top tier communication skills and I’ve already started applying these to my daily life
Quite a good book. An entertaining and informative book. While I did not, personally, find many of the tips revolutionary or mind blowing sometimes seeing it in text helps the point to stick. Overall I would recommend this book for anyone looking to polish their communication/social skills or anyone who is generally interested in social interactions. Side note: it is a very easy read and all of the "tips" are nearly summated within the chapters for reference, which I appreciate.
4 stars!. Great read with applicable tricks to everyday life. However, the list of tricks is long and I began to lose interest 3/4 of the way through the book.
Great book to help improve your communication skills. The book gives good examples that help you practice and improve your communication skill. What sets this book apart is how it explains tricks for modern communication.
Wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyable read. This book taught me lessons that have been very useful, and already has bolstered my friendships and introduced me to some exciting new options. This is highly recommendable, as your life will benefit from it.
Amazing. Incredible book to read. Many great tools to help build more confidence in verbal and non verbal communication skills.
Great book. A must read with lots of good info!
Lame and useless. This is the lamest self help book I have read. The author advices creepy behavior like constantly starring at women to establish interest.
Decent Read. This book had some valid points on how to speak to people, but it felt very opinionated at points rather than factual.
What a valuable read…. Leil Lowndes does an amazing job at integrating her personal stories to show how effective the different communication skills she discusses can be. An extremely valuable book to read for everyone and anyone. We all could improve our communication skills a little bit more.
What a gem. Gold nuggets throughout

Have a nice day is a commonly spoken expression used to conclude a conversation (whether brief or extensive), or end a message by hoping the person to whom it is addressed experiences a pleasant day. Since it is often uttered by service employees to customers at the end of a transaction, particularly in Israel and the United States, its repetitious and dutiful usage has resulted in the phrase developing, according to some journalists and scholars, especially outside of these two countries, a cultural connotation of impersonality, lack of interest, passive–aggressive behavior, or sarcasm. The phrase is generally not used in Europe, as some find it artificial or even offensive. Critics of the phrase characterize it as an imperative, obliging the person to have a nice day. Other critics argue that it is a parting platitude that comes across as pretended. While defenders of the phrase agree that "Have a nice day" can be used insincerely, they consider the phrase to be comforting, in that....
