My rant on Huckleberry Finn. I don’t know where to begin with a book as beautifully written and detailed as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. There is just so much beauty in the story it humbles me that such can be described. From Huck’s description of the river to the constant liveliness of nature around him, nothing is ever dull or grey in the world of the book. You can tell how much Twain has put into this book by the vividness of the culture of the slaves through Jim, how Huck sees the river as a living entity, through conme-Kings and Dukes “spreading the work of the bard”, through personal loss and family conflict, through Huck’s constantly sharp wit for such a laid back, uneducated kid. I recommend this book to EVERYBODY: young, old, older, younger, modern, past, future, outside of time, and the others!

Great American Story. A fantastic growing-up story mirroring America’s own growth as a nation, and serves as a landmark for how far American society has come from its own history

Love the book. I have loved this story ever since I had to read it in high school 50 years ago. It reads more like a series of short stories that are all based on the same premise but tie into one another.

I never really acknowledged this book but said I did. I grew up in Mississippi and have heard of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn my whole life. I never actually read the books until now. We just had a son and I got a notion that I'd read him some of the classics, especially those that were free in the public domain. He's just a little baby, so I kind of went back and forth in my realtime editing of the language in the book as I read it out loud to him at night to introduce him to our routine. I feel like I've cheated him out of baby stories, because after a certain point I became hooked on this story and couldn't wait to finish it, but due to the arrangement with mom and the fact that he went to sleep pretty quick, we only burned about one chapter per night unless I could squeeze in two without mom noticing. Huck and Jim and Tom and everybody else seem so real and their situations so absurd and worth telling that this is a book that I'm going to read again, as an adult and on my own, and one that I'm going to make sure that my son appreciates because it's such a massively beautiful thing.

No cover. How am I supposed to judge it and there’s no cover? What a joke

Boobyjo23

Awesome. The book is so good this is the second time I've read it. It is a little hard to under stand because it is unabridged. Though it was fun trying to decipher it.

An amazing literary work for the ages. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn contribute not just to the individual reader’s entertainment, but determines the standard of how great works can and should be.

Charlie foreman

The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn. Read it in school, but you know how things fade through time. Yes it is Clements best, but appreciated more at 60 years of age than 14. Same is true about Uncle Toms Cabin. When you take these together with a little perspective of age, you see how the more things change, the more they stay the same!

I love this book. I don’t own this version I own the paper back/physical copy version but nonetheless this is still a great story it does use the n word like over 200 times (that’s why I am giving it 4 stars) and I didn’t like that it was kinda offensive in today’s world but nonetheless it’s still a great book for people who is tolerant of the n word being used so many times but just because it uses the n word it should not be banned because yes it is offensive today but not back then and I have been hating that books have been banned this year like dr Seuss! or Disney films like song of the south,Peter Pan,dumbo,Fantasia etc (with the exception of mein kampf because that was a horrible book) but yes some of those things are offensive today but that doesn’t mean that we have to erase them from the world their are worser things to banned like mein kampf!

Fun, satire, racism. Fun book with a lot of heart about racism.

Worst book. I needed to put three notes per page and then have a OCD crazy lady check them which she criticized on all of them because she thinks she is always right.

Dagi02

A Must Read!. Beside from the n-word, this book is amazing! The chapters of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are hilarious and the duke and king chapters are humorous. Also, there’s Jim, one of the most amazing people in this book. This is definitely a must-read!!!

Huck's best friend.

Huckleberry Finn. I think this was my twentieth time through this book. Nutthin’ bettah.

Great book. Although there is a lot of bad words, I mean Mark Twain lived in the 19 hundreds, it is a great book. Loved it.👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👍👍

Perfect!. A classic page turning adventure! A must read!

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Amazingly entertaining while providing chilling insight into slavery and social norms of the day.

Laylette!

Gotta Get Into It. The dialect bothered me at first, but once you get used to it, it's not that bad. The story sounds dumb, but once you get going, you just keep reading. This book does require your full attention though and it's not a book you can multitask with. Overall, pretty good. Especially for a school-assigned book.

Landog the third

Fairly swag. This book will make you laugh. The story keeps building up and up making for an exciting and entertaining experience. The depth of characters in this story makes you feel as if you are a part of the story. I would recommend this book to anyone. My only warning is that some dialogue in this story may be hard to understand and sometimes offensive but you should remember that this creates a sense of realism and drama.

Liam14

Classic.. Stands the test of time.

Lou&Lola

A must read. Twain caught me off guard with so much culture in the book. Between the language he writes in, his descriptions, and even dialogue, the world Twain presented was authentic. Huckleberry Finn's story was told beautifully and with incredible suspense in various sections of the book. However, there were moments that seemed meaning less, moments where, as a reader, I was frustrated to struggle through the plot or colloquialisms that seemed to only serve as filler. Besides the occasional disruptions, this was a great read that challenged ideas from that time period.

The adventures of huckleberry Finn. Great for people who love the wilderness!

Bells in my head

The Honest Reader. To be completely honest this book is good but absolutely not one of the best so called “classics” out there. It is the first Mark Twain book I have read and I have read. Probably the last. Not because I disliked the book or anything, just because i didn’t really do it for me personally. The old southern dialect was almost as hard to follow as one of Tom Sawyers childish schemes and the book didn’t really have an over all message. There was some slight internal conflict with Huck when he was debating what was right and what was wrong in terms of freeing a salve. Huck decides on what he fees is the morally wrong thing to do and sets Jim free, but the interesting thing is reading this book 200 years after it was written because setting a slave free in 2018 would obviously be considered morally acceptable but when the move was written it might be looked at differently. There were some great scenes in the book when Huck and Jim were venturing down he river in the raft, but that wasn’t enough to make this story great. Huckleberry’s fast talking and shoot from the hip antics were amusing when It came to getting him and Jim out of trouble, but again this wasn’t enough to make this story great. I also really disliked the entire section concerning the Duke and the King. There schemes seemed far fetched even for this particular story, and there exit from the novel was anticlimactic. Sure thy were shown tarred and feathered, but a final dialogue between Huck and the two rapscallions would of been nice. Over all, in my honest opinion the book was a 3 out of 5 stars.

Jonhull4254

Best book ever. This deserves mor than five stars if I could I would give 100 but sadly I cannot

Great Book. Recommend to all.. This was a great book. A shame I procrastinated and had to read it in all in one sitting. Most definitely recommend to any hesitant readers.

Parsonbrown53

Spellbinding. I'm almost 65, and hadn't read this. Happy I took the time. Kept my interest from first page to last, which had an interest twist to the end of the adventures. A 'must read' for anyone who hasn't done so.

Reprise. I first read this classic maybe 60 years ago, and it seems a pretty fair representation of the conniving and racist slime I remember from back home, so it scores points for authenticity, although I fail to find the southern charm in fact or fiction, but it loses all its cultural cred in the most astounding abuse of coincidence in literary history, that being a boy and slave float 1,100 miles down the river, and the slave is sold as a runaway by hucksters, and Huck goes to where he's held, thinking providence will provide, and it does, because the sister of the matriarch slave-holder is Huck's best pal Tom Sawyer's Aunt Sally, who is, coincidentally, expecting a visit from her nephew at any moment from way up to home, a little spot on the great river. A good boy's adventure, very tedious in the escape section, not particularly clever, funny in spots, and, in the end, a mite depressing.

Mandeep_Car

Huck Finn. Huckleberry Finn can be a tough book to get into. At first, it seems a ,little boring but as the plot progresses it gets way better. Watch out for the symbolism and reference to older chapter because they can be a little difficult to find but once you find it you begin to love the book even more!

ASatchman

Good story, just very very very very very slow. Overall it was a good story, you need to get the podcast audiobook to read along with, it was very slow and I would not read it if it wasn't for school, but the ending was great.

Agnuggetchick

Huck Finn American Classic. This novel was an inspiring tale of a boy that figured out his mark on life, and a slave man that journeys across America to find freedom.

Is this nickname chosen yet

I hope this is a good book. I just read Tom Sayer in class and I hope Huck Finn is just as good.

The adventures of Huckleberry Finn. What a joy to read this book 60 years after the first read at 13 years old!

Gazpacho17

A Classic. This is an American Classic that is for all ages. It is a coming of age novel that everyone can understand.

Thewboy

Adventure is right. I read To Sawyer 20 years ago and decided to read Huck Finn along with my 9 year old. We both enjoyed his adventure on the river, the way the characters speak, Huck's easy-going nature and Jim's quiet persistence, plus the other unique characters they meet along the way. Meeting up with Tom adds different dimension to the second half of the book.

Carmen Rogers

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. This is the fifteenth time I have read this novel. One of the best ever written. Carefully crafted, and filled with symbolism, it is far ahead of its time.

Interesting. I thought it was pretty good. The dialects make it a fun read, and the suspense and action are interspersed with just the right amount of comedy.

What a classic!!!. I love this book and recommend it for all!!!

XxdeathreaperzxX

Well what do ya know?. Downloaded this to read the chapters my teacher gave out for homework, and although this book is incredibly old i find the humor and how the book covers both sides of everyones sides, like if ur a christian youd be ok with this book because it mentions praying and believing, but if ur not then huck and jim have ALOT of superstition beliefs, and allot of other stuff to but i dont wanto spoil to much, its an interesting read but i find the passeges where the "uneducated" so-to-speak talks because im not used to reading in that way. But the way people text these days isnt so different. Kinda funny

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910), known by the pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, essayist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. He was praised as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced", and William Faulkner called him "the father of American literature". His novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), with the latter often called the "Great American Novel". Twain also wrote A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) and Pudd'nhead Wilson (1894), and co-wrote The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today (1873) with Charles Dudley Warner. Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri, which later provided the setting for both Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
