Kahneman's work with Amos Tversky is the subject of Michael Lewis's The Undoing Project: A Friendship That Changed Our Minds

In his mega bestseller, Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman, the renowned psychologist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, takes us on a groundbreaking tour of the mind and explains the two systems that drive the way we think.

System 1 is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System 2 is slower, more deliberative, and more logical. The impact of overconfidence on corporate strategies, the difficulties of predicting what will make us happy in the future, the profound effect of cognitive biases on everything from playing the stock market to planning our next vacation—each of these can be understood only by knowing how the two systems shape our judgments and decisions.

Engaging the reader in a lively conversation about how we think, Kahneman reveals where we can and cannot trust our intuitions and how we can tap into the benefits of slow thinking. He offers practical and enlightening insights into how choices are made in both our business and our personal lives—and how we can use different techniques to guard against the mental glitches that often get us into trouble. Winner of the National Academy of Sciences Best Book Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and selected by The New York Times Book Review as one of the ten best books of 2011, Thinking, Fast and Slow is destined to be a classic.

👎. So difficult to read. Can't finish

Applicable to business and life. 10/10 I think. I disagree that this book is difficult to understand. I think it is made really easy given his many, many examples. I'm an Entreprenuer and I think this book applies really well to marketing, sales, and communications with consumers or partners. But you need to apply the logic yourself and adapt it to your environment the author won't make that connection for you. The economist had an article about advertising and how this book has changed ads. But the author will not consult for them says the article. I respect that. Again, this does help business skills if you apply it. Read the sample and you will know if you want more.

Insightful and Applicable. I got to learn more about how the mind works, and where we become susceptible to psychological bias. I’m the decision-maker for my company. I found the lessons learned very applicable to decisions I’m routinely confronted with. I especially appreciated learning more about the effects of framing, anchoring, and presenting losses versus gains. As the author says in the final pages of the conclusion, I’m not sure if I’m any better now at avoiding the errors myself, but it’s easier for me to spot as an observer!

Fascinating. Clearly written and deeply interesting.

Fantastic book, what's with the notes?. Great book, really enjoying it. Trying. To figure out what the deal is with the notes. They seem to be about particular parts of the book with some extra detail provided but there are not footnotes nor links to get to them from the text in the ebook. Kind of annoying

I love this book. I loved this book so much I read it everyday for 20 days straight

Khadanga

Loved it!. It’s an interesting book to read. It feels like this book is talking to me, while reading it. It’s an easy recommendation...

The story of the wonderful bromance between Daniel and Amos. Now that that’s gotten your attention, you NEED to read this book to understand humanity.

Overpriced if your already. think in the ideal ways and furthermore are able to assess that in your life at any given time. So I think it's like how there's a melody to everything and someone might buy this book trying to find the harmony but the ones who already hear it and even found a way to sing along will see that's it's the chords we naturally are aware of and it's a melody we can hear our minds play along to everything. But the ones who hear this book and chorus but fail to find notes that match or clash will end up tortured by song when they fail to find a way to sing along.

Fantastic book. I wish I discovered and read this years ago. So many ramifications for so many areas of personal and professional life.

Warning. Pretty difficult read.. 1/3rd through it and I don't think I'm going to finish it.

Filitosa

word search and index poor. the book is great. the problem and reason for the two star is either the publisher or iBooks have a problem. there are nopage numbers in the index, nor does clicking on the word in the index take you anywhere. double clicking brigs up dictionary. search engine very selective, couldn't find amygdala, nor golf

Thinking. I had to re read some of the paragraphs but I fully enjoyed it. It mkes you think differently about the way we..well...think!. The process and making us aware of that.

Sjsla

My System 2 Was Exhausted After Reading This Book. This is a fascinating and thought-provoking book. Will make you think about thinking. After reading this book, my System 2 is exhausted and all my System 1 wants to do is to look for a dime on a copier to place a bet on a gamble (you have to read the book to understand).

Interesting book!. Really gave me a lot to think about.... recommend!

PriceChopperFan

Difficult. Difficult to read. It's a collection of summaries of psych experiments. Difficult to apply to the business world. I don't think I will invest the time to finish it.

Thinking. I love it already and only 1/4 into it.

Merc4hire.chris

Amazing.. This book is a long and difficult journey. But if you have the patience to read through it and be introspective on how the concepts apply to you and others in your life, you'll find that it was more than worth it.

Hddgiiytewad

Absolute Necessity. This is one of the most important texts I’ve ever read in my life.

Dr.. Wonderful book. Full of insights into a number of aspects of psychology. Makes it quite clear why models of the economy based on rational actors can't be right. I have to reread it to try to turn the many ways humans tend to make mistakes in thinking into a coherent whole.

Superb!. Professor Kahneman has provided us with an intellectual memoir of a life-long study, along with his colleague the late Amos Tversky, of cognitive outcomes. The simple shorthand: most people are not rational decisionmakers. For many years I have used their findings in my profession, with outcomes they predicted, so I find Kahneman's book a capstone of what he (and Tversky) understands so well...we're rarely rational decisionmakers in matters that usually matter so much. Bears reading slow and carefully …. There is a lot of room to disagree, or argue with the book or yourself about ideas put forth in "Thinking; Fast and Slow". The ideas presented are put forth in a very gentle way non-rhetorical, and it helps because there is a lot here to absorb that a reader could miss or go by. There is a lot to consider and fine nuance in the words as well. While not jammed down your throat, or so dry as to be unpalatable, "Thinking" treads an elegant careful and respectful path as it reveals what has been studied about the way brains work in an almost holographic way that helps to reinforce the ideas, and also find fine distinctions. As I read this book I could not help but think of a million ways we do thing inefficiently because our of virtual stone age model of the inside of our heads. It's really scary as a matter of fact just how we have built up these colossal scaffolds of habitual reality that we never question or even look at. This is one book that is not like all the rest, and there are a lot of them out there too, many good, some bad, some just repeat the same things in all the others. This book felt precisely put together to inform the reader in the best way by an expert in his field. Excellent, 5/5.

Archilny

Great book, but unnecessarily long. The book is interesting and explains well human behavior and mind. Unnecessarily long- could be 1/3 the length and convey the same ideas.

Highplainscat

Thinking,Fast and Slow. I appreciate the effort it took to write this book.I also appreciate the effort it took for me to read it . I am very glad I did. It is not often that you come to understand the why of decisions you have made. This book gave me a better view of the world I live in.

LC229

Wow. So many amazing takeaways. It’s hard to even describe the depths of knowledge in this book, but I found myself applying the ideas to my life immediately.

Much Knowledge and Wisdom From the 2002 Nobel Laureate for Economics. A trove of knowledge and wisdom by the 2002 Nobel laureate for Economics.

Great read. A lot of valuable content. It also does great to explanation how our decision tree works.

Amadeusjobs

Thinking, Fast and slow. Too many unnecessary words, too much fluff, very bad and inappropriate examples used to try to illustrate a point. Roundabout writing made for very tedious reading.

Jc33

Challenging, counter intuitive and brilliant. I took my time reading this because I realized quickly this book needed to be cherished and contemplated, not merely finished. This book is for layman but will challenge experts in economics and psychology as well. Cannot more highly recommend.

Ninoflino

Must read to understand human behaviour. This book explains through many interesting experiments how the human brain processes information and makes decissions. A few of the times the information is processed through our rarional side and thus rational decisions are made, but most of the time the information available is processed through our intuitive system and here decisions are made without any quality control. A great explanation on why we often make stupid decisions!

Ericccs_lau

Amazing. A great addition for those who wanna know more about self, habits and thinking

Exmsft

I love the idea. The concept of this book is great. But the execution is painful. Arduous, repetitive writing that should’ve been torn apart earlier in the editing process.

Excellent description of the intricacies of the Mind. The beginning of this book will seem very familiar, since we have all heard about the "two brains", left brain, right brain, intuitive and rational thought. However in this great book, amazingly deep yet very readable, Daniel Kahneman takes us on a gradual but unequivocal road to understand how these two systems ( which he calls System 1 and System 2) work together in our mind. And it is truly surprising that through the explanation of decade long psychological research by a number of important scientists, we come to understand that the mechanism of the mind can be studied scientifically, and that we are able to understand how all of this research affects us in our everyday life and in all of our social interactions and ultimately in the road that we take as human beings.

Dloreant

Essential read on. Self-control

Loved the Book!. Many conversations came out from this book!

Malik J. Wilson

A slow burner with life-changing insights and perspectives. To be completely honest, I cannot expect every person to gather the motivation to read through this quite lengthy book. However, if one is determined to do so they will be so grateful for the journey that are partaking on. The lessons you will learn from topics such decision making, narrow- & broad-framing, biases, and more will make you significantly more aware and keen to how people operate and think in the world we live in. This applies to strangers, family, friends, colleagues, and even yourself. This is not a book for everyone, but if you find it even a little intriguing then go for it!

Jigglyfished

A Fascinating and Enlightening Read!. I took my time reading through each chapter, trying to understand the implications of his research. Although the matierial was tough to get through at times, what I learned about the limits and nature of the human mind was worth every penny. There are important lessons in this book for anyone who wants to live their life with a sharp sense of self-awareness.

Weeesssass

Brilliant works. It is a pleasure to read this book, it makes me realize that how irrational I am, and how limited human-mind is.

Bo Atlanta

English Prof. Not a native English speaker. The book is written in a very basic English. Kahneman should have hired a good translator to make it readable. There are thousands books that someone should read first before touching on this ABC. What for this guy got a Noble prize? Kahneman doesn't know the answer either.
