The Litigators by John Grisham
The Litigators by John Grisham Book Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • After leaving a fast-track legal career and going on a serious bender, David Zinc is sober, unemployed, and desperate enough to take a job at Finley & Figg, a self-described “boutique law firm” that is anything but.
Oscar Finley and Wally Figg are in fact just two ambulance chasers who bicker like an old married couple. But now the firm is ready to tackle a case that could make the partners rich—without requiring them to actually practice much law. A class action suit has been brought against Varrick Labs, a pharmaceutical giant with annual sales of $25 billion, alleging that Krayoxx, its most popular drug, causes heart attacks. Wally smells money. All Finley & Figg has to do is find a handful of Krayoxx users to join the suit. It almost seems too good to be true ... and it is.

The Litigators. Fantastic story line full of humor and suspense. Loved it.
Another Good Read from John. I really enjoyed this one. I've read almost all of the Grisham legal thrillers and this one is as good as the rest. Seems like what might happen in a real law practice.
The ligitiord. Very interesting!
Predictable. Not his best book. I forced myself through it.
The Litigators. Grisham's The Litigators is a quick read, mildly entertaining, with good character development. I felt that the storyline held few surprises as it follows a boutique ambulance chasing Chicago law firm in its attempt to try a mass tort case against Big Pharma. A melancholy sub plot is woven in about a lead poisoning case involving a small Burmese child who's suffered brain damage from lead paint. This soon turns into a suit against a large toy manufacturer/importer. Certainly not one of Grisham's best, but if you're a fan you'll enjoy it.
The litigators. Easy reading, and predictable end, but heart warming throughout.
Good but not great. Rather trite and predictable. It is a fast read and does keep you going.
One of Grisham's Best. Wonderful storytelling, as usual, but with more insight into humanity and a touch more humor than usual. This is a great read and borderlines on "can't put it down".
Disappointing. Definitely not as good as most of Grisham’s outstanding page-turners. At times interesting and compelling, for the most part I found it predictable and slow. Oh well, they can’t all be best in class.
Opinion. Enjoyed The Lutgators but the medical facts were a bit weak
Great!. One of the best novels from Grisham in years. A real departure from his normal. My favorite since "Playing for Pizza"
Great read!. Great read. I enjoyed it immensely. J. Flores, JD APRN
Classic Grisham. I loved this book. Great story and characters.
AWFUL BOOK!. This is the worse book I have read by John Grisham. He should be ashamed of himself for writing such a dull book. Very dull plot, and extremely repetitive. A waste of time and money. This doesn’t even deserve one star. I ended up skimming the book, because after reading the first one hundred pages or so it was ridiculous. Worst Grisham book. I wish I could get my money back for this garbage!!!!
Interesting Enough. No, it's not one of Grisham's best. In many ways it is sadly predictable but nonetheless provided several hours of entertainment with moments of Grisham brilliance inserted throughout.
Another good Grishham. Liked the fact that cases were more relateable
An Excellent Read!. Grisham does not disappoint. This one’s a particularly fun and excellent read! I particularly loved the ending. - I remain a fan, Jackie-the-Critic
Great book. Very enjoyable!
The Litigators. Love Grisham and this book was the BEST
The Litigators. Well, I love Grisham! This is another unpredictable, compelling drama that kept me turning pages. Great story line, well-developed characters. It's a Grisham--needn't say more.
Good Fast Paced Read. While this book will not blow you away with twists and turns it is a very enjoyable straight forward read. It will not take a casual reader a lot of time to complete and Grisham tends to keep the law jargon to a minimum so that it is easy for anyone to understand.
Worth reading. A bit long-winded, but enjoyable nevertheless.
Great story telling.. It was one of those books that I cannot put down. Every scene is like watching it in front of me. I loved it. Highly recommend.
The Litigators. Classic John Grisham, riveting, suspenseful and leaving you wanting more. Sarah Atlanta, GA
A Grisham Classic - one of his best. The Litigators is an amazing story that anyone in the corporate world can understand. John Grisham does an amazing job of developing his characters and intertwining multiple plot lines to make this one of the best Grisham books in recent memory.
THE LITiGATORS. This was the first J.Grisham book that I read.. And after reading all of David Baldachi's books, this was an incredibly disappointing book experience.. It was hard to finish it. Completely predictable, slow moving and very shallow story line... Wow, I could not believe this was a writer that I have heard of and seen on bookshelves many times... I believe there was even a movie or two made, I can not figure out how J.G. became so popular.. Perhaps his other books were better written than this one... In this book 2 big mistakes that I picked up on right away... How can a writer who is writing a story about Chicago spell the main street name wrong, and 2nd, medical trials can not be done in Africa or any other country outside the USA and apply for an FDA approval of a medication to be sold here.. Uh?? who did your research on this book??? and sadly who checked it???
Another fun read from Grisham. Serious page turner
Is ok.... Not his best book. I think John has forgotten how to write court drama books. The story line was ok. I was disappointed how the story unfolded at the end and all the clients got screwed.
This book is a lot of fun!. I could. Or what to close out my busy days by reading a couple of chapters each night. I honestly wishes that the book did not have to end. While not necessarily comprised of the greatest attributes of the craft, this novel none the less delivers a. Good story, believable characters and a feel-good ending.
John Grisham. Another great book by a really civic minded human being

The Litigators. I thoroughly enjoyed reading litigators, it gave me a better understanding of what small law firms could look like. I will continue to read Grisham’s outstanding works because they contain entertaining moments as well as an education about how the legal practices function.
The Litigators. I love John Grisham books and for me The Litigators is his best yet. His characters Oscar, Wally and David are funny, heartwarming and real. I laughed until my sides hurt and shed a few tears. There was not a boring paragraph though I almost didn’t read it fearing a boring class action tale. Read this book when you have a little time because you won’t want to put it down.
The Litigators. Once again, I found it tough to stop reading. Also, the subtle humor injected made me gut laugh out loud - but then, that’s one of The more endearing aspects of JG’s writing.
The Litigators. A fine overview of the mass torts bar and plaintiffs attorneys and their litigation efforts, triumphs and failures. A page turner, including the red herring elderly barfly!
Great book!. Loved this book from beginning to end. Another great one!
Zinc’s adventure. The story was profoundly believable as real life ebbs & flows. The good guy…well he traversed the challenges with class & compassion. The truth prevails! I enjoyed the story & could hardly take a break throughout the travails.
Finally!. The past few Grisham books lacked in getting my attention. In my opinion, this book is like his first ones and a great read.
Save your money.. One of his worst books ever. Predictable and boring.
Excellent. Marvelous storytelling.
The Litigators. Did not feel this book was "edge of your seat" as past books have been. Would have enjoyed more suspense in it.
Awesome. Never disappoints although you can anticipate certain things then boom comes a curve ball
Great Read. Grisham, doing what he does best.
The Litigators. It was hard to put down. I really thought that Finley & Fig would hedge their bets and buy up a bunch of Varricks stock knowing they were going to loose the suit, but. David stumbled on a gold mine anyway.
Saw it coming. This was a great read that kept me engaged the whole way. I saw the end coming from miles away and was still pleasantly surprised when I got there.
Loved it. The pathos and turmoil of law life. Great story!
The Litigators. Another fantastic job by John Grishom. I could not put the book down, I was captivated from beginning to end. Definitely worth the money.
Slow. Slow to get anywhere
The Litigators. John Grisham returns once again to tort law which is perhaps one times too many with this reading. Normally, John Grisham will hook you at one point that you don't want to put the book down. This did not happen. Though it was an enjoyable read, it was the worth reading twice.
The Litigators. One of his best...moved along at enjoyable pace...great ending!! Good read!

The Litigators. This John Grisham novel was a light and easy read. Like the lawyers in the book there was not allot of knowledge required about litigation. I was not surprised by the outcome.
Great Book!. Great book! I hope John Grisham turns this into a series.
What an entertaining read. I loved the comedy and build ups in this book. Even my mother was chuckling as she read it and she generally doesn't like John Grisham. Hard to put down and the odd belly laugh keeps you entertained with the sleazy ambulance chasing partners. Nothing is below the ethical lines that are easily moved. Great read if you have the flu and need a smile.
The Litigators. Enjoyed the book and characters until the trial. Way to much jargon and a lot of blah blah. I found I was skipping paragraphs just so I could get back to the interesting parts. A good book just found I lost interest during parts of it.
Another great Grisham outing. This novel comes back to the territory John Grisham inhabits so well. The young idealistic lawyer who fights the odds and wins. Along the way we are treating to a wonderful bunch of characters, some eccentric, some corporate, some working class and some poor. But all fascinating. My only disappointment is it's length. It is over all too quickly, although it all ends in a pleasingly satisfying way. The final chapters tie up perfectly. All I can say is more please. About David Zinc! G in Toronto
Entertaining book!. A real fun read.

The litigators. This novel was an enjoyable easy read. Grisham has the ability to bring the reader into the story, keeping their attention, and making one feel an attachment to the characters. A perfect airplane read, not too heavy, with a few outward chuckles.
Extremely interesting. I really enjoyed reading it. The book held my interest from cover to cover. Grisham reveals inside details about corporate America.
Great Story Telling. John Grisham never fails to write a great story with wonderful character development and an intriguing plot. Grisham fans will not be disappointed, and those new to the author will become a fan of his other novels.
Another success by Grisham. The litigator had me hanging on to every word. I found myself getting lost in the chapters and not wanting to lay it down. I recommend this book to anyone that loves a good attorney book that Grisham has done in the past. This one can go toe to toe with any prior and hold its own.
The Litigators. One of Grisham's best!
Entertaining!. A really good read! I most definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good read. Real easy to read too!
Great read!. Thoroughly enjoyable. One of my favorites by John Grisham.
Little disappointed. I've read better work. It was slow and predictable.
Great book. Grisham never ceases to find new ways to keep you wanting more. Great story line and always the anticipation of a new twist. You won't be disappointed
Great book!!!. Bravo Mr. Grisham you did it again!!!! I can't wait until the next one.
Charming and hilarious. Stop comparing this book to previous Grisham novels. This one is an easy read, very enjoyable indeed.
The Litigators. John Grisham is one of my favorite novelists, perhaps because I, too, am a lawyer and like a good legal yarn. However, I found this book procedurally inaccurate from a legal perspective, unseemly in its portrayal of lawyers as ambulance chasers, and predictable in its ending. Perhaps Grisham is getting too formulaic in his writing, but this one, while entertaining at times, just didn't hit the mark. When comparing it to his earlier works, filled with drama, social commentary and great characters, The Litigators had none of that. It was clear how the trial that was the center of the story and how the subtext would end. I'll still look for and read Grisham, but hope he gets a little more creative in the future and tries to dispel, rather than perpetuate, lawyers as scoundrels and scalawags.
The Litigators. Typical Grisham fare, lots of twists and turns. Starts off slow and turns into a page turner. Good read
The Litigaters. Enjoyed the storyline. The ending was great;however, I could do without the sexual content and language.
Always like John Grisham. Thought the book was very good but moved a little slower than is usual for Grisham's books. Enjoyed the theme of the book and the characters. Would highly recommend this to any John Grisham fans.
So Much Fun. As a "Ham and Egg" lawyer, I could relate to so much in this fantastic tale. And a perfect ending! So much better then Grisham's horrific conclusion to the Confession. 5 stars all the way!
The Litigators. Grisham is first rate as usual with this change-of-pace work revealing a keen sense of humor and a warmth not usually found in his trade mark legal thrillers. As always, the reader gains interesting perspective on the legal profession.
Litigation with a positive impact. A fun book, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, fully enjoyable! Thanks, again, John!
The Litigators. I liked the story. But there wasn't a great deal of suspense and did get predictable. Maybe from having read all his novels I am used to his style. A Time To Kill it is not! But if you like John's books, you will enjoy this one.
The litigators. Finally Grisham returns! Good read. Not too heavy. Courtroom drama with a little twist...this time the main characters are the sleazy, not-too-bright ones. If you're looking for a book with "deeper meaning", this is not the book for you. It's just an entertaining read.
Great book!. Makes you appreciative the good trail attorneys!
Excellent read. I love John Grisham, but this book is exceptional - even for him. Highly recommend it.
Just OK. It stuck me about 1/3 of the way into the story that the author must of had a contractual commitment to produce a novel within a period of time. The characters are poorly developed and you are thrown into the story instead of it drawing you in. The plot line itself is exceedingly simple and predictable. The book really is just "OK". And I had hoped for so much more. After having just finished 11/23/1963, which was awesome, tins was a big let down.
FANTASTIC!!!!!. First read of John Grisham. It was so good it flew by!
Better Endings Continue. John Grisham seems to this fan to have turned a corner in how he end his books. For many years Grisham seemed intent on serving the reality that things often do not end the way we want them to. Even when things basically work out, there are are sometimes negative aspects. In The Firm, our hero got out of trouble, but would never practice law again, and his brother was left hoping the mafia would not track him down. In other books, the endings were less than fulfilling. This fan felt that Grisham was bent on a cold reality. However, in The Testament and now in The Litigators, the endings are much more satisfying. No miracles, just well satisfying. The main themes resolve to a positive conclusion. There are plenty of books for the cold realities, likeThe Innocent Man. I read fiction because the ending can be both enlightening and satisfying. I'm a Grisham fan, and this one is an instant favorite.
The Litigators. Grisham at his finest.I'am sure that it gets better, but it will still have To be written by him. Can't wait for the next one.
NDP. Excellent read!
I kept waiting.... and waiting and nothing of interest or substance ever developed.
Another great one by Grisham!. Couldn't put it down!
Litigators. Could not put it down!
Mr. Best one yet. I couldn't put it down after I started.
The litigators. Vintage Grisham. A book that held my attention until the very last page. A story full of humor.
The Litigators. Another fantastic read by John Grisham. The characters were believable and colorful. As always, Grisham finds an underdog for his reader to cheer for. I eagerly await April10 and the release of Calico Joe.
The Litigators. Yawwwn! Absolutely booooooring!
Great Book!. Kept me entertained from start to finish.
Excellent!. Another well-written story by Grisham that will hold your attention to last word.
Masterful walk thru adventure!. Grisham combines an excellent plot with his great story telling capabilities and with incredible humor in "The Litigators."
The Litigators. Typical great Grisham book. Hard to put down.
Addictive!. If you are a lawyer, you will love it. If you are a lay man you will undertand us.
The Litigators. This book was so GOOD!! John Grisham is my favorite author. My favorite book used to be A Time to Kill. However The Litigators is my new Fav!! It was funny ( I lol on many occasions) realistic, & of course a page turner!! A definite must read for anyone looking for a good book!!
The litigators. I loved this book! It grabbed me in the first few pages and never let go. I could have easily read another thousand pages. Loved that Chicago was the setting. Please hurry with your new novel Mr. Grisham Stew Gershbaum
Loved it!. It took me a while to get into the book but once I was acquainted with the characters I couldn't put it down!
John Grisham. Another great book by a really civic minded human being
Awesome. Fast paced exciting book!!
Awesome. Page turner. Loved it.
Booker. Great read.
Good read!. And pretty funny too!
The Litigators. Excellent ....Could you not write another about David Zinc. Loved it.
The Litigators. Very entertains as are most of his books. Looking forward to his next. Judie Rosen
Excellent entertainment. If you are looking for deep and meaningful look elsewhere. If you want a solid enjoyable read, well worth your time, pick this up. I read half of it on way to Maui from Oakland and the other half on the return and the flight was over before I knew it. Way better than the stuff offered on the plane. Enjoy
