Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen Book Summary
In a garden surrounded by a tall fence, tucked away behind a small, quiet house in an even smaller town, is an apple tree that is rumored to bear a very special sort of fruit. In this luminous debut novel, Sarah Addison Allen tells the story of that enchanted tree, and the extraordinary people who tend it. . . .
The Waverleys have always been a curious family, endowed with peculiar gifts that make them outsiders even in their hometown of Bascom, North Carolina. Even their garden has a reputation, famous for its feisty apple tree that bears prophetic fruit, and its edible flowers, imbued with special powers. Generations of Waverleys tended this garden. Their history was in the soil. But so were their futures.
A successful caterer, Claire Waverley prepares dishes made with her mystical plants—from the nasturtiums that aid in keeping secrets and the pansies that make children thoughtful, to the snapdragons intended to discourage the attentions of her amorous neighbor. Meanwhile, her elderly cousin, Evanelle, is known for distributing unexpected gifts whose uses become uncannily clear. They are the last of the Waverleys—except for Claire’s rebellious sister, Sydney, who fled Bascom the moment she could, abandoning Claire, as their own mother had years before.
When Sydney suddenly returns home with a young daughter of her own, Claire’s quiet life is turned upside down—along with the protective boundary she has so carefully constructed around her heart. Together again in the house they grew up in, Sydney takes stock of all she left behind, as Claire struggles to heal the wounds of the past. And soon the sisters realize they must deal with their common legacy—if they are ever to feel at home in Bascom—or with each other.
Enchanting and heartfelt, this captivating novel is sure to cast a spell with a style all its own. . . .
BONUS: This edition contains excerpts from Sarah Addison Allen's First Frost and The Girl Who Chased the Moon.

Simply enchanting. This gem was a Book Bub suggestion. My favorite genre is mysteries so I was surprised to see this on the email list I received from BB. Yet I decided to purchase it. So glad I did. Sweetly told without drama, this book is about secrets, emotional scars, love, pain, and redemption. After I finished it I immediately ordered another book by Sarah Addison Allen.
Good quick read. Entertaining and enjoyable read. Loved the characters and humor.
Just ehhh. This book wasn't worth $12. I was really excited about a magical garden, and it was pretty cool, but the story was slow and predictable. There was very little conflict and I found myself wondering when something was going to happen well after the midway point. The climax felt like it was an afterthought, written in haste to tie up loose ends. I wouldn't recommend buying this book at it's current price, it's a $4 book at best, a cute and quick read.
Garden Spells. Mystical, magical, mysterious. All facets of honesty, kindness and love move through this series and have brought this reader incredible joy.
Spellbinding. Wonderful read, keeps you engaged but light enough to call it an easy read, but don't take the ease as a snuff to the beautifully way it's written. Fantastic descriptions with great characters and a backstory and history that makes the story so inviting.
$10 really??. Priced a little inappropriately much?

Good but..... It just ended all of a sudden. Not much of a climax. It was still an entertaining read.
Wonderful book!. Just the right amount of magic, romance, fun, and suspense. A great read!
