#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Far more than a superb memoir about the highest levels of professional tennis, Open is the engrossing story of a remarkable life. "Agassi’s memoir is just as entrancing as his tennis game.” —Time

“Honest in a way that such books seldom are.” —The New York Times

Andre Agassi had his life mapped out for him before he left the crib. Groomed to be a tennis champion by his moody and demanding father, by the age of twenty-two Agassi had won the first of his eight grand slams and achieved wealth, celebrity, and the game’s highest honors. But as he reveals in this searching autobiography, off the court he was often unhappy and confused, unfulfilled by his great achievements in a sport he had come to resent.

Agassi writes candidly about his early success and his uncomfortable relationship with fame, his marriage to Brooke Shields, his growing interest in philanthropy, and—described in haunting, point-by-point detail—the highs and lows of his celebrated career.

Game, Set, Match!!. This book only solidifies my love for Agassi! Reading it brought back every memory I have watching him play (Mostly against Sampras) with my fist in my mouth, on my knees in front of the tv, and my eyes half open!! I could feel his passion through the screen and now though his words!! I miss him on the court now more than ever!! Andre is an Icon!!!

Djhr1

Don’t waste….. …..the time or money on this book. A grown man who lives in misery because he can’t make his own decisions. Very depressing.

ITomney

OPEN - loved it!. Inspiring story of dedication to a sport.

PearseL

A heartfelt memoir. Simply written and honest recollection of a competitor’s life. It’s an easy read, gets a bit predictable toward the end.

DChaustre

GREAT!!. This book was given to me as a gift and I must say is the best book I have read in awhile, is not even about tennis but his struggle with his father and his hatred for tennis which is really ironic. AWOSOME BOOK!!

Fort Wayne realtor

Wow!. I'm not a reader, but I read this book in two days. Agassi was my hero growing up, and I tried to emulate his game. Mullet and all. After reading this I am once again inspired. Unreal.

Open/Andre Agassi. Great Read! Awesome book

Epic Story, Unkind at Times.... Very well written, fascinating story. I got a little tired of in depth details on tennis matches and thought he was a little too unkind to Brooke and Sampras, making many unnecessary low blows that didn’t really add anything to his story. Do I *need* to know that Pete Sampras didn’t tip well at restaurants and how empty/vacuous Brooke’s Hollywood life and friends seemed to him? I don’t feel like he took the high road with comments like those. Otherwise a fantastic story and I highly recommend.

Thank you. Thank you

Fascinating reading. Loved every page of this book. Great admiration for Andre Agassi.

Beautiful Story. What an extraordinarily moving story. It is well told, has tension, and is hard to put down. You just want to see what happens next. You just want to see how Andre will grow and evolve, and turn from hating tennis to loving it. This is an inspiring book; it is timeless and speaks to the human-ness of anyone who seeks to find him/herself.

BobDBoston

We never knew. So , first of all his tumultuous and Ironic ( his words) tennis career is just the canvas or backdrop for his candid life journey. I defy anyone to not be rooting for him since the days of his dragon battles and all the way through his Sampras-Agassi epic battles . This book does 2 things in my eyes first, obviously, gives the reader an all access invite chronologically, and emotionally, into Mr. Agassi’s life . Secondly and more entertaining (to me) it illuminates how little you know of someone so public and how different someone really is deep down from their public persona. Fantastic story , and a great humanitarian. Rob D R.Ph and 5.0 Amateur

Ginger7999

Great book. Such a great book. I was sad that it had to end. What an amazing person...

VERY well worth it!!

SO SO SO SO GOOD. I am not really a reader, at least not till lately. I read this book in about 5 days flat I could not put it down. So beautifully written with a simplicity that allows the story structure and take aways to utterly fly. Please please please do yourself a favor and read it. So sad that I'm already done with it.

Agassi is King. What a wonderful memoir. Beautifully written, brilliance in selection of words, comfort food to the soul.

Joel723

Inspiring. I've long admired Andre Agassi as a tennis player and found him engaging during interviews. This book was fantastic in its insight into his personality and humanity that most of just can't really know about public figures. I was touched by his story and could identify with his passion mixed with a need for focus in life. I was also touched by his description of his love for Steffi Graf and their kids and appreciated how fatherhood changed him to his core. Great book! One of my favorites and one I'll recommend to many people.

Open. One of the best books I've read in years.this is not a biography of a tennis player.it is a story of courage, determination and character,a love story,a story of profound human relationships,a tale of a magical partnership,a hymn to friendship and a testament to the power of belief determination and commitment.it is beautifully written and fills the reader with deep respect for Andre Agassi and a wonderful sense of optimism.a must read!

Chesseyweezy

Open by Andre Agassi. This and Chuck Yeager’s biography are two of the best I’ve read. A friend read this book. He said, I hate biographies, but I liked this one. So, even if you don’t like biographies, read this one. It’s superb. I will now try to get my 15 year old tennis playing son to read it. That will be a chore.

Adodge123!!7

Open Amazed. This book is one I want to read and then read again. I love the title, the honesty, the voice of confidence and humility - the contradictions!

JimboSimone

Review of Open. I loved this book. Could not put it down. Brought back so many memories and really educated me on the type of person Agassi was and is. I was a tennis player trying to make it and fell short in talent and effort. I lived at Bollettieri's around the same time as Agassi and remember a lot of the same things Andre spoke about. I went to the usopen almost every year for 25 yrs and watched Agassi in some of those big matches he spoke about. I never realized he won so many grand slams cause I typically only watch the usopen and Wimbledon yearly. My father became good friends with Nick Bollettieri about 30 yrs ago and agree with everything Andre said in this book. Such a great insight on who he is and I found it incredibly entertaining. Just hope he realizes how lucky his life is and I am pretty sure he does now since the tennis is behind him. So happy for him that he got together with stephanie Graf. She is a class act and together they will enjoy the rest of their lives together for sure. Love that they are giving back to this world and hope I can do the same when the time is right. Thank him very much for sharing his life story. Sincerely Jim Simone HV Pa. 19006

I could not stop reading it!!. Very well written. It helped me understand what is going on on players minds and confirm that with dedication and effort anything is possible!

Invinciblefan

Great read!. Fantastically written, amazingly written and immensely readable. I read the book in a day and half. A great autobiography of a sports figure. You don't have to be a fan of tennis to enjoy this read.

KathyinRochester

This book was beautifully written. Charming and heartbreaking at the same time.. I’ve never read an autobiography about a tennis player, but this was wonderful. It’s really cool to get inside the head of Agassi as he battles through so many matches and I love the love story between he and Stephanie. The prep school he built in Vegas this crazy cool.

Penguin819591069285829692959

Incredible. Found this book impossible to put down. Writing is natural and easy to read.

DoubleFaultBob

I terrific read — even if tennis isn’t your thing!. The behind-the-scenes stories and antidotes were intriguing. On the flip side, some of the play-by-play match reports could have been trimmed down (or eliminated) without curbing my enjoyment of the book at all.

Keetee14

Great read. Loved this book... as a fan I’m biased but goes to show while superhuman you are you are also human.

Aperik

Great book!. What an amazing life/career.

The ups and downs found in this book will keep you hooked from chapter to chapter and from phase to phase. It's extremely hard for a athlete to see himself without the thing that defines him most and this book tells how to do it and do it with passion. Recommended for anyone who loves sports and hates to loose. Lessons we all need to learn from and share. Thank You, AKA!!

Grown up. I enjoyed hearing about Andre’s growth from being a self-absorbed tennis phenom to a caring grownup who put others needs above his own. Most never make that transition. Captivating story.

The Master Quest. Although our games our different, the opponent is the same. “The mind is restless, Krishna, impetuous, self-willed, hard to train: to master the mind seems as difficult as to master the mighty winds.” Thank you for sharing, thank you.

Agassi Review

Open. Wow. What a book. I grew up thinking that Andre Agassi had little substance and was all flash. His book shows that he is just the opposite. What an amazing life he had by overcoming so many obstacles. He clearly is a kind warm hearted man that is to be admired. I couldn't put the book down. The honesty and struggle he describes is something to be commended! All the best to him, his family and my hero Gil!

Mchenryweb

Always been a fan. Andre - great read. Being an athlete I could relate to many of the trials you had with your Dad. My Dad and I didn't speak for five years but we both love[d] each other and I was very emotional reading your Dads reaction when you won your first slam. A great book!

Thank you, Andre!. What a wonderful book. I remember being fan of Mr. Agassi since early 1990-s. But this book showed the complexity of a tennis player's life, all the drama, strugle, and challenges I had no idea about. He tells his story in such humble way, with amazing sense of humor. It is a page-turner! I did enjoy this book a lot. Thank you Mr. Agassi for your talent and good soul!

Flashing a Bird

Open. What a compelling story! I stayed up reading until four in the morning one night, unable to put it down. I have been a fan of Andre's and followed his career from the beginning and have always admired his individuality and perseverance. This book provided insight into the other side of Andre, the softer and more sensitive side, that still relied on strength and determination to make his dreams of the school a reality. As a special educator, I concur that schools need to teach to each individual student and the role of teachers is not only to impart knowledge but, more importantly, to inspire children. What a joy to see Andre find the happiness he deserves with Stephanie, his children, and his school. Despite all of the tennis accolades, Andre's foundation will truly be his legacy as each student realizes their potential and pursues their own dream because someone believed in them and discovered the joy in helping others. In my opinion, with every graduating class, Andre gets to add another victory to his record!

Bussie110

Eloquent, informative, funny and celebratory. A wonderful read. Agassi provides beautiful insight into his life. I was especially impressed by his sheer honesty...good, bad or indifferent. I also liked his humanitarian side and will donate to his school. Finally, I got the sense that Andre is a cool guy and one that I'd enjoy hanging out with if given the chance.

RedEye44

Insightful, inspirational. Andre's book is the best read I've had in 2 years. Andre tells his life story so honestly that it reminds you that there are athletes who are real and genuinely nice people still in this world. This isn't a book about tennis. It's a book about his journey in, out and around tennis. My book of the year! Thanks Andre!

User12345678910

Great story. This book inspired me to start reading again.

LegallyBlonde1

BLANTON REED

No quotation marks. Book seems interesting, but there are no quotations to let you know when someone is speaking, so it is hard to follow. I'll be asking Apple for a refund due to this.

Asusios

Simply Incredible. You don't have to be a tennis fan to appreciate the trials and tribulations of Agassi....an amazing read from start to finish.

Mkie21

Wonderful read ... I thought I knew Andre and I have enjoyed tennis being nearly the same age. His memoir is well thought out and it was interesting to hear the progression of Agassi as a player and person over the years. I always thought there was more to the story and it was nice to get the inside look.

MikeyRoberto

Unreal. This book is so amazing. I couldnt put it down this past week. The most entertaining book I have ever read. It is brutally honest and keeps you sucked in with all the wonderfully dramatic stories Andre shares about his life.

Dave Scott J

Loved it. Very inspirational . Easy to read and very enjoyable.

W. Havlena

Amazing.... I raced through this book in less than 4 days, and although it's an autobiography it's not reading itself like one. What a great story...

Jones103

Open. This book seems like it could be a fiction book and would still be great. The fact that it is all true makes it even better. A wonderful read for a tennis fan or not.

The officwe

Best book. Wow it is open. Agassi is such a bro

ALdude

Pure Inspiration. I could not out this book down. The book is captivating Agassi is captivating. It is a truly inspiring tale of man that is more than image but is pure substance.

VeryAmused

Wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although I have tennis experience, I believe this is about much more than tennis - it's about life, and particularly the struggles and triumphs that people have to go through. Agassi went through a lot, but he came through it all with great character and has a fun story to tell. I highly recommend this book.

Nico76ijijij

Life of contradictions. Agassi lived a life of contradictions that he was able to sort out into a life of inspiration. What a great book, thank you Agassi for sharing!

Sajed24

Loved it.. Loved the book as I love the sport of tennis. What a wonderful insightful view of backstage!!! It does "open" the prospective of the sport for the first time and discusses the emotions and fights of top players. Thank Agassi for sharing this with the world and wish him all the best for all the Charity work!!! Only one wish after reading the book is to meet the man himself. If that ever happens shall donated usd 10,000 to his good cause work.

Bamboo02

A real treasure!. This book is so intimate you feel like part of the stories. I remember those moments, the matches, the pain in his steps. I've read passages of this book to my dinner guests with everyone clinging to every word. This is the best tennis book ever written and one of the greatest sports biographies. Andre confirms what we all suspected. He pays perfect tribute to his fellow players and showers his family and friends with deserved love and respect. I could not stop reading it nor talking about it. Thank you for sharing the details of your life and relationships...you've probably made a hundred million people feel a lot better about themselves and more optimistic about facing their personal battles. This book has already made me a better tennis coach! Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Agassi Fan

Amazing. I started this book hoping it would be a great and engrossing read, and it surpassed my expectations. This book has quickly become one of my favorites, if not my favorite. I found it very difficult to put this book down, and was lamenting the end of the book; I wanted even more! The book takes you through Agassi's journey in great detail, and is great not just for the tennis fan but for anyone. Along the way this book teaches not just about Andre Agassi, but life in general. I can see myself reading this memoir again (and again, possibly), something I do not typically do. I cannot recommend this book enough. As an Agassi fan, a tennis fan, or an outsider to the sport, you cannot go wrong with this book.

Fjguerra

Moving. Revealing. Sincere.. Great book written by one of the greatest tennis players in history. Fascinating autobiography that reveals the true life and feelings of an admirable prodigy, tennis star, husband, father and foremost human being.

Utahclarks

Refreshingly honest. A book that makes you appreciate a person for who they are. Andre exposes himself in a way that you see him with all his flaws and you like him all the more for having the humility to show them.

Lonely Millionaire

open. Excellent book. Well worth reading. Loved it,

Scottgi3

Superb. I don't typically give five stars to anything but this story is really deserving of them. My wife and I are huge fans of Andre Agassi and Steffi Agassi (Graf) and became even bigger fans after reading this book. We always appreciated their tennis but are even more appreciative of them for all they do outside of tennis as well. Even if you are not a fan of tennis read this book. It will inspire you.
