Trust me, this is one of the best classic mysteries you should read. Maybe at first you need to get used to the 1800โs language but after you get used to the language in the book and start to REALLY enjoy the book.

Such a good book, got my attention right away
This novel, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is very cleverly written and quite engaging in that the reader wants to know how Holmes will solve the case. However, the case itself is fairly predictable; I had figured out most everything from the clues before the plot revealed the developments. For the predictability, I deducted a star. If you haven't read a Sherlock Holmes mystery, this one is the one to read.
This is such a good book! But there were some things that didn't make any sense.

I first read this book when I was probably 8 or 10 and ever since I have been completely hooked on all the Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories. I'm 25 now and each time I read the Hound of the Baskervilles again it is amazing. A truly great book from start to finish.
Awesome
This book is a classic, no doubt. it definitely has the potential to join War & Peace, Don Quixote, and Robinson Crusoe as one of the top stories of all-time. It honestly kept me interested the whole way through, which I find rare for lots of classics, and had a very possible to solve, interesting mystery tied to its fantastic plot and intense action scenes. I had to read it for school, and it was probably one of the best school-assigned books I have ever read.

Excellent writing from a familiar genre.
The length of the novella lends itself to the story. The gloomy and oppressively evil mood of the moor is masterfully rendered. Great characters and pacing. Wonderful.
Great read, especially, when considering when this book was written.
I have longed to learn more of the writings of Sir Doyle after seeing movies if his created characters over the years. This is the second book of his writings I have consumed. I must say, I was rather pleased by those two books. I love the 19th century backdrop and style of language. I am usually put off by not understanding the choice of words of older writings, but in this book I was not and enjoyed the older style of words. I would recommend Sir Doyle's works and especially 'The Hound of the Baskerville'.
Good book but "A Study in Scarlet" is better
Doyle, as usual, provides a story with great surprises and built upon solid logic.
This book got me back into reading after a year long hiatus. Once I finished the first page I couldn't help but read through it over the weekend. Warning! You may drop everything else that you are doing once you pick up this book.

I have always loved Sherlock! It is the one stand- by book for me when I can't find anything else I want to read. I have always been fascinated by him. I love all the writings about Holmes!

I have seen several movie versions of this book, but the original narrative is still the best! If you are a Conan Doyle fan and have not read it, do so. If you are a fan of mystery stories, you will not be disappointed.
I read this book at my high school for English and it was great! Definitely a suggestive read for fans of Mystery, Fiction, and of course, Sherlock Holmes. If you want a detective challenge, try this book! I surely suggest it.

Really, what can be said about a timeless classic? I am so glad I took the time to read it, and got a glimpse of life in the 1800's, and the immortal Sherlock Holmes. Doyle has a unique style that I really could appreciate, and therefore I highly recommend it to anybody.
It is books like this one that can keep me reading for hours without feeling bored. Doyle is just that good of an author!

A great read. One of the best mysteries ever.
I loved the whole story, well written and very atmospheric throughout. I have read the book now and watched the films from Basil Rathbone to Benedict Cumberbatch. All of them had a different twist on the character of Holmes but the main plot of the story remains the same. The only thing I didnโt like about the book was the summary of the whole case at the end. After reading the book, I fully understood why certain things happened the way they had. Apart from that, very enjoyable and will certainly be reading more of Sherlocks exploits.
I love all the Sherlock Holmes stories but this one is a special classic that can be read time and again.
Arthur Conan Doyle is an excellent writer. I am intrigued by all his books.
The story had so much potential and spent the whole book building up to an incredible conclusion that never came. It was a sudden and unsatisfactory end. However, the middle of the book was interesting.

This was the first time reading a Sherlock Holmes story and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.
This is such a good book! Although it can be a little hard to understand sometimes it is a really gripping story. I would not recommend this though to anyone who does not like scary books as this can be a little scary at times.

It was crap
Refreshing read. Sir Doyle brings the feeling of the Novel to the reader. Impressive tale, with Mr Holmes only in 40% of the book.
We all know the story; superb. The trouble with ebooks is the formatting and editing. In this edition the standard font size works fine, but if you make the font bigger or smaller the carriage returns are in the wrong place. Stupid.
Really an enjoyable story like all the Sherlock Holmes tales. Will no doubt enthral younger readers as it did to me all those Years ago when I read it for the first time.

Rarely a dull moment with evocative writing and fantastic descriptive language. Truly suspenseful throughout, you can feel the tension and see the scenes perfectly in your head. A fantastic Holmes novel.

When I first set out to read this work, I was sure that because of its use of slightly archaic language, I would derive no excitement from its pages. Of course, I was proved wrong and devoured the splendid mystery with such ferocity that I was sure, at times, that I was trampling through that moor right along with this intrepid troupe! The best things in life are free, indeed!

The Hound of of the Baskervilles is short at 214 pages, and this coupled with it's fast pace will attract teen readers; adults will love clever twists and an enjoyable storyline. It starts off at a steady pace (what little boring chit chat there is is balanced by fun surprises the author throws in) and gathers steam until you can't put the book down. Highly recommended!
The book was interesting. I had to read it for a school project.
I never thought that this story would be so gripping every step of the way. I read "The Red-Headed League" and was a little disappointed, but this wonderful story more than made up for it. Doyle is the master of the mystery. So much fun to read!

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did a fantastic job in crafting the Sherlock Holmes series. I can rarely find literature that is as captivating as this, and the fact that it's free and portable is pretty cool and convenient.

He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.
