Persuasion by Jane Austen
Persuasion by Jane Austen Book Summary
A woman of no importance, she manoeuvres in her restricted circumstances as her long-time love Captain Wentworth did in the wars. Even though she is nearly thirty, well past the sell-by bloom of youth, Austen makes her win out for herself and for others like herself, in a regenerated society.

A Tender Love Story. As Pride and Prejudice is witty and funny, the appeal of Persuasion is the sweetness of character of the heroine. Persuasion is such a tender love story it grabs your heart from the very first.
Hmm. Read the letter from Wentworth to Anne in the end.
Richer characters. Austen paints some deep characters in this novel. I enjoyed it immensely, especially on the second read.
Love!. I could read her books over and over. I love everything about them. She has such an awareness of character that translates effortlessly into her character's interactions, which makes the stories so delicious to read! The anticipation in her love stories is wonderful. Anne, such a noble, smart, patient, well-mannered woman. Captain Wentworth, dashing, sincere and smart. I love them <3
Austen's best?. While Pride and Prejudice might be Austen's best-crafted plot and characters, Persuasion is her best page-turner. It is hard to put down and easy to quote!
My favorite!. This is my favorite Jane Austen book as it is a little unusual for her.
Sweet Read. Appreciating Austen now in a way I didn’t understand her in high school I’m so glad to be getting the opportunity to read her works now.
Persuasion. Perfectly Austen. Well worth the investment in time and money.
Old Friends. The worst part of this book is coming to the end and having to say goodbye. All of Austin's characters become as old friends to me.
Persuasion. Great story - started a little slow but definitively got better as you read on. Jane Austen rocks!
My favorite!. I love all of Austen's books, but this is my favorite. I love the quiet suspense! Amazing!
Persuasion. One of Austen's best.
Persuasion. Anyone that does not rate any Jane Austen with 5 stars does not deserve to be indulged with reasonable conversation.
5 star. The beat book ever!!!
My favorite movie!!. I have seen the movie a million times but never read the book. It was amazing. I loved the book. There were so many unfinished things in the movie that the book explained. And now it makes more sense. I love them equally for their differences and for their similarities. I love this story. Every one should read this book.
Persusion. Wow is all I can say, what a love storyline
Beautiful. My favorite Austen behind Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen is a wonderful, insightful, and clever writer. Persuasion is a beautiful story; it definitely seems slower paced than others of hers, but it's truly a good build up to the climax of the story. The climax and resolution are definitely worth getting to. She is a beautiful writer; definitely sets my heart to sigh and flutter!
Persuasion. Excellent story. Caught my interest from Chapter 1 to the very end! I thoroughly enjoyed the characters.
Great classic. At first I thought it might have too much pomp & circumstance for me to enjoy it thoroughly. But, I truly enjoyed it, I hated putting it down each break and wanted to go back to it immediately. I'm very sorry it's over.
Persuasion. There is no better than Jane Austin.
Perfection!. The best book I have read it quite a long time!
Beautiful!!!. Masterful storytelling!
Persuasion. I loved this book. It drug out a little but was an awesome love story.
Par. Not exciting or intense predictable In this case the movies are better
Austen’s Best Novel. I’ve read every novel by Jane Austen. Persuasion is my absolute favorite. I read it at least once a year. This is her most mature writing. She captures the pain and longing of our heroine in such a relatable way that has stood the rest of time. Anne Elliot is a perpetual wall flower that falls in love with the manliest and most realistic of Austen’s heroes, Captain Wentworth. Youthfulness and selflessness work against her early engagement to him, and they are torn apart for eight long years. Those years have left her a miserable spinster and him fabulously wealthy. He returns to the area to flaunt it. They find themselves in each other’s company, and we the readers get to feel her deep regret of losing him. We cheer for her as she wades through waves of humiliation from her own flesh and blood. Yet, she isn’t a completely helpless sap as Fanny Price nor a selfish snot like Emma. Our hero is more gravitating with an actual male personality and temperament. Much to our dismay, Mr. Darcy is both unrealistic and dull in comparison to Wentworth. I’ll take the Navy hero any day over the droll. He actually acts like a man would in this situation and albeit in a foolish way. However, I know many a man that would act coldly toward an ex. He doesn’t disappoint in the end. Wentworth is devoted even more. Just read it and enjoy.
Persuasion. I have so enjoyed this book. I love Jane Austen's writing. She develops characters who you come to know completely. She put them into situations that were fun to follow without the need for them to be vulgar, violent, or vicious.
Lovely. Entertaining, enjoyable period piece. Favorite kind of escapism
what am I missing?. I love JA, read most of her books. I wish it could have been less regarding the suspense of the chase and more into the actual relationship and character development as she did in PP. I haven't found any of her books to be substantial in that way since PP, all though I do find them to be enjoyable.
Love Jane Austen.... This book portrayed real emotions and dynamic characters. Loved it!
👍. No ads, easy to read format, and an excellent example of Austen’s work. One of my personal favorites
It's always a joy to read persuasion !!!. Now it's easier than ever since it's on my phone. Great book! Thank you!!!
Persuasion. Loved It !!!
Persuasion. 2 stars is being generous. This story slogs along in a boring age when people are purely narcissistic. Very dissapointing.
Persuasion by Jane Austen. While this is not Austen's finest creation, it delights in it's deeply sincere heroine, Anne, and it's portrait of a woman's life in Austen's day. I am in love with Captain Wentworth and, being old myself, I understand how confused lovers can be and how hurts from the past can block future happiness.
Must read. Love love love this book ❤ & my favorite love story from Jane Austen books...
Persuasion. I read it three time and I still want to read it again.
Persuasion. Love it like all of Austen's books!!
Persuasion. This has the worst of Austen’s failings: everything happens inside the heroine’s head, there’s almost no conversation between the two principles, and after building and building to a desired end, when it comes, it’s delivered in summary, as if you were reading a blurb for a movie. She’s an author who goes under or around her fences, and that is limp, disappointing, and not endearing.
Persuasion. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, once I acquainted myself with the old English way of speaking.
Beautiful. This is absolutely one of my most favorite Jane Austen novels. Lovely.
Wonderful!!. An amazing book! Totally my favorite Jane Austen work! It's also probably the most underrated Jane Austen work, I don't know why more people don't read it.
Trash. Useless
Persuasion. I did not expect to finish this book. It took me a few chapters to begin to care about the characters, but the second third of the book kept me interested with new characters and surprising turns. The building tension in the last third had me coming back to it as often as I could, and I found the conclusion to be fully satisfactory, if rushed. If you like other Jane Austen books, you will enjoy this one.
Love it!!!. I've read all of Jane Austin's books and must say this might be my favorite!! It is truly a romance. Love endures through time and space, through age and circumstance. And only love can bring true happiness!
Gotta love it!. I mean, really how could you not? It's free!
Not For Me. I found this novel rather boring and I struggled to finish it. Never in my life have I closed a book in sheer disgust. My whole class despised this book!! While Jane Austen may be distinguished as a great author, for me, her books are dull and uneventful. Persuasion was full of long conversations between different women on conflicts that could've been easily resolved if they had only used DIRECT communication, instead of "beating around the bush"
Brilliant !. One of my all time favorite books. I could read it a hundred times and never grow tired of it. Period romance at it's best !
Persuasion. As always and before, loved it!

Great!. I'm so glad I read this n iBooks- the 'Define' button made understanding and getting through the book as fast as I pleased much easier than when I read Pride and Prejudice as a paperback. Lovely story...feel like it was quite short now that I think back...nah, a perfect length actually ^^
Brilliant!. My favourite Jane Austen book, absolutely brilliant! 100% recommend it!
Amazing. Like all Jane Austen novels, was well written and addictive
Persuasion. Very good read, love it.
Beautiful!!!. I love this book almost as much as pride and prejudice. If you have ever loved I promise you will enjoy reading this!!!
Persuasion. Beautifully written novel as all Jane Austin's are.
Fantastic!. Favourite Austen: love the characters! Great read! :)
My favourite novel. This is the comfort blanket I return to again and again. Not as frothily romantic as P&P but more mature and more solidly emotional, with real and likeable protagonists and an entertaining supporting cast of fools, villains and adorable demi-heroes. The perfect rainy-Sunday read.
Persuasion. Fab read.
Dull. Another nondescript offering from Austen. A girl is persuaded not to marry a sailor. Eight years later they renew their aquaintance. There are lots of uninteresting characters. Nothing surprising happens.
Persuasion - never even heard of it; but it's good. Not the most famous, and not one I'd ever heard of. Still, a nice genteel read to while away the hours and wind down from 21st century life. It's not really what I'd call a rip roaring read or romp, it could even be retitled "Gentle Persuasion", but even so, sometimes it nice to read a book that holds your attention without leaving a mark on your skin. I think this is a book that in a few year I would be able to read again, and possibly enjoy just as much or more.
Persuasion. Liked it, but not as much as Emma. Too much disparity between the good characters (wise, thoughtful, learned, discrete, kind, etc) and the bad ones. It's hardly credible that Anne Elliott comes from the same family as her ghastly father and sisters. And Anne herself is rather passive. But her crucial chat with Captain Harville near the end is touchingly heartfelt (one imagines Jane Austen feeling strongly about the content) and I liked the subtleties of 18th century courtship, at a time when noone seemed able to say what they really felt. Certainly good enough to persuade me to tackle the remainder of the Austen stories I don't yet know.

Jane Austen ( OST-in, AW-stin; 16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist known primarily for her six novels, which implicitly interpret, critique, and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage for the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security. Her works are an implicit critique of the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century literary realism. Her deft use of social commentary, realism and biting irony have earned her acclaim among critics and scholars. The anonymously published Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), and Emma (1816), were a modest success but brought her little fame in her lifetime. She wrote two other novels—Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1817—and began another, eventually titled Sanditon, but died ....
