Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway Book Summary
The last novel Ernest Hemingway saw published, The Old Man and the Sea has proved itself to be one of the enduring works of American fiction. It is the story of an old Cuban fisherman and his supreme ordeal: a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Using the simple, powerful language of a fable, Hemingway takes the timeless themes of courage in the face of defeat and personal triumph won from loss and transforms them into a magnificent twentieth-century classic.

domination of minds. The old man was poor, weak and alone. But the sea made him brave and strong. That’s the art.
The old man and the sea. Great book!
#800. This book was amazing And I am review #800
Hems. One of the greats, no question about it
I haven't bought it yet.... I want to know if this book will be good for the report I have to do does anyone know how many chapters it is?
the one. For me, this is the best and also most accessible piece ever written by Hemmingway. His simple story of a simple man in simple prose - sounding like a translated manuscript - has been proven timeless. We are all Santiago in one form. If you read just one Hemmingway - make it El Viejo y El Mar.
MUST READ. A must read classic. Now Apple must get OLD MAN AND THE SEA narrated by Charlton Heston.
Yee. Ye
A Timeless Classic from a Timeless Author. Ernest Hemingway. Enough said. What an amazing story and it's a short read. Briliance.
An amazing piece of literature. Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" is a wonderful tale about perseverance and self confidence and, is not only well written, but is an incredible adventure story. During the book, Santiago, the old man, encounters criticism from fellow fishermen, extremely bad luck, feats of strength and loneliness. There are many aspects of the story that states the point of never giving up. The book was a great read and quite interesting. It was suspenseful and also sad at some points, most especially the hardships that he faced. One of the great things about the book is that it shows the confidence and endurance of the old man in many ways, like how he is always hearing criticism from fellow fishermen or when he stays with the fish for more than 24 hours. Since it is so well written, the book can not be improved in any way. The people that would enjoy the book are people looking for a great short story of Hemingway's or an introduction to a great American author. Also, it is a story for anyone that wants a great adventure story. The book is very unique and is unlike any other book. In conclusion, the story is not so much of triumph, but more of mental and physical endurance. Old Man and the Sea. Very simple and easy to read. Enjoyable. Great life lesson learned. I’ll read it again someday.
The old man and the sea. Great read ! It’s a must .
Publisher Spoils Story. This is one of Hemingway's best works, and I really enjoyed it. However, the Publisher, Charles Scribner, writes the introductory chapter in a way that blatantly and unambiguously gives away the story. While there is still a lot to be gleaned from any piece by Hemingway, particularly this one, Scribner robs those readers who are not yet familiar with the story of the suspense and excitement that comes with the uncertainty over what will happen next. I write this review in hopes that future readers who do not yet know the story will skip the Introduction and come back to it after finishing the book (it is actually interesting and would make an excellent Afterword -- in fact it does exactly what an Afterword is suppose to do and nothing for which an Introduction is typically used). Note: the three stars reflect this particular edition, and only Scribner's addition, not Hemingway's story, which is worth five stars.
Great. Great read
Simply Perfect. Perfectly Simple
Not what i expected. This is my first book by Hemingway and I’m blown away at how he took a story about a man fishing and made me love the man, the boat, the fish, the boy and all other parts of this so much.
Great book!!!. This is the best fishing book I have ever read!!! I love it!!!
The Old Man and the Sea. It is clear why this book won the Pulitzer Prize. You feel the life you are reading about. You feel the pain, the sadness, and the strength of nature. Just as the "old man dreamed " we can dream of and work to become such descriptive narrators. If you want to read great writing this is it.
The old man and the sea. Very boring book. It is the worst book I’ve ever read in my life. Don’t waist your time. Very overrated!
The Old Man and the Sea. Great story! One of Hemingway's best works. Excellent character development and an interesting look at perseverance. Price should probably be a bit less though for a novella.
Very Slow.. The ending was no where near good enough to make up for the lack of action throughout. Too many non-English and expletive words. If there was a message I'm just simple, because I couldn't see it. Overall weak.
Don't wast your time. this is the worst book that i have ever read and i wish that i could get the hours i spent reading this back so i could do something valuable with my time
This could be written in one sentence.. "An old man went fishing, and was pulled by a fish, but the fish was eaten by a shark when the man killed it" Overrated.
Skip the introduction. I say skip the intro because it will ruin the story. This is by far one of the best stories I have ever read. Reading it motivates me to never give up even in the face of defeat.
Thought is needed in life. I’m glad I read it. It is of great wealth.

Ernest Miller Hemingway (; July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) was an American novelist, short-story writer, and journalist. Hemingway produced most of his work between the mid-1920s and the mid-1950s, and he was awarded the 1954 Nobel Prize in Literature. He published seven novels, six short-story collections, and two nonfiction works. Three of his novels, four short-story collections, and three nonfiction works were published posthumously. Many of his works are considered classics of American literature. Hemingway was raised in Oak Park, Illinois. After high school, he was a reporter for a few months for The Kansas City Star before leaving for the Italian Front to enlist as an ambulance driver in World War I. In 1918, he was seriously wounded and returned home. His wartime ex....
