Thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson, haunted by his secret knowledge of his mother’s infidelity, is traveling by single-engine plane to visit his father for the first time since the divorce. When the plane crashes, killing the pilot, the sole survivor is Brian. He is alone in the Canadian wilderness with nothing but his clothing, a tattered windbreaker, and the hatchet his mother had given him as a present.
At first consumed by despair and self-pity, Brian slowly learns survival skills—how to make a shelter for himself, how to hunt and fish and forage for food, how to make a fire—and even finds the courage to start over from scratch when a tornado ravages his campsite. When Brian is finally rescued after fifty-four days in the wild, he emerges from his ordeal with new patience and maturity, and a greater understanding of himself and his parents.

Very intriguing storyline. This book kept getting me to read!
Love the book but maybe like a hundred or something pages.. Put something everyone else will love
It’s amazing. There is some people that say this book is boring. I think those people have absolutely no sense about books. It is a very exciting thrill ride with good vocab and it teaches you things about life lessons.
Awsome. I read this book five times it is so good🙂
Awsoms. It’s so awesome and sad but I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
Good reas. You could say it gets slow in the middle but still entertaining to read.
I hate this book. I was so boring and had no dialogue it’s dumb
The hachet. Terrible book terrible artist, it was just terrible.
Read for Assignment. This was a story about a boy who is in a plane crash in the remote wilderness of Canada and survives. The focus is on the survival and Brian's time in wilderness, not so much on the before and after of the crash. I enjoyed reading this so much, I couldn't wait to pick it up again. The author did a great job writing at the appropriate age level to make it interesting and comprehensible. It was a very realistic plot as well. The one disappointment for me was the ending. I thought it was too abrupt. It was not satisfying. After all Brian goes through to survive, I felt the author owed the reader a little bit more to the life after rescue. This made me think that maybe the author did this intentionally so the reader could draw their own conclusions and therefore create great classroom discussions. I read this book along side my daughter who had to read it for school. I was amazed at all she took from reading this book. The forecasting she was able to do and the conclusions. I was happy about her interest which kept her focus. Which almost offset my disappointment in the ending.
👏🏾. Love this book I love the forest and I wish to run away to the forest when I’m old enough, and this and another book “My Side Of The Mountain” encourages me
Engaging. It feels very vivid, vibrant & “in the moment”. I understand why people think he is real. Thank you to the author & publisher for this piece of eye opening, life affirming, life changing coming of age story.
H. Good so far on chapter 4-5
Not for me. Book summery: man crashes onto island. Soon makes/ fins a hatchet. What’s the rest of the book? The man trying to survive. That’s it. Literally. I hated it. Do not recommend.
Great book for young souls. Provides a young soul a map for finding their way when times get rough. A must read
Love it. Read this book in fifth grade paper back, loved it , A story about survival of the fittest I guess he does encountered a lot of things I’m not going to spoil.
Great book. If you are looking for a great fiction book this is the one for you. It is about a young boy who was in a plane crash and got trapped in a forest. He had to learn how to survive on his own until he could get help. A truly moving story. It really helps you value what you have.
Ripoff. I got this book In a paper copy and when I got it home I opened it up and the pages were blank. Very frustrating.😠
It was the best. I loved this book 😍😇
Such a good book. I haven’t read the whole book but so far it’s VERY fun to read and very interesting. Gary Paulsen sure knows how to make a great book.
Best Book to Read in School. Love!!!
Hatchet. It’s great
Thank you. I’ve read this book more times than any other in my life. It’s my own survival guide through the inexplicable loneliness that pairs society.
Cool book. Best book ever love it have the book in real life
Hatchet. Great teenage survival story.
Still the bst. I read this in 5th grade now I’m in 7th and it’s still one of the best books I’ve ever read
Cool. So good it was the best book ever
Hatchet. All you people hew think it's so boring well maybe why it was so boring to you people is because you don't have a good imagination 🙊 take that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the best books I've ever read 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It’s so exciting!. I love this book! It’s so exciting!
Should be read. This book was amazing, in 5th grade we read this for 4 weeks but never got back to it. Now that I have a phone and have it on digital I can resume the adventure {a good book with a little thing in it that keeps you on edge all the time, like mc Donald’s I’m loving it 💚❤️}
Best Book Ever!!!!!. I would love to read this book because my dad had read the whole entire book and loved it and he says that that is the best book that he has ever read in his life and he doesn’t like to read that much so this book has to be that good.
AMAZING. my dad recommended this book to me and i finished it and i can now say this is me and my dad’s favorite book
Amazing stories. The point of a book is to allow our imagination to complete the story in our own unique way. While the base of the story is the same for everyone, everyone views it differently. This series was amazing and full of life. Growing up walking in the woods and plains by myself I can imagine my exit this book is vastly different then someone who grew up in a city. Now that a live in a city I can definitely see such. All in all amazing story.
This is 2 -3 chapters, then it cuts off. I would like a refund. Rip off
Boring. The story progresses way too fast, nothing builds up and Brian’s issues are often rarely explored in Depth because the plot is moving so fast. The book needed to be longer, 180 pages isn’t enough to tell a survival story and the pacing shows.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. 👏👏👏👏👏we read this in school and we were supposed to be keeping up with the class but- IT GOT TOO EXCITING PAST CHAPTER ONE AND IN 10 MINUTES I WAS AT CHAPTER 10 THATS HOW GOOD IT WAS OMG
Engaging yet dull.. I loved this book. It kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat. In fact, I finished it in two days. It was nice seeing how Brian overcame his challenges, and how he changed as a person, but at times the writing felt dull. I felt like the author could have been a bit more descriptive. Though the writing style is GREAT for younger readers. Other than that I think the book is great. Would definitely recommend.
Easy to read, charming & fun!. Had to revisit this old book from my childhood. I’d remember it differently, however, it was more fun now than it was back then because Brian’s mistakes lead to him being tougher and more patient. Many cases he could’ve easily died: Bear attack, moose attack, starvation, depression/suicide, drowning, poisoning/illness/unclean wound, etc. It was persistent kept them going!
5 Stars!. Heartwarming and beautifully written!
Thank you. I loved this book so much!
Amazing. I read this book back in I think 6th grade and it was really good. I never read it agin until now and I am now in ninth grade. I was watching castaway with my younger brother, mom and stepdad and it reminded me of this book. I am now going to ask for the second book.
Father - son. Read this with my son! Good quality time.
It’s Awesome. I’ve read it 3 times and I can’t stop reading. It’s one of the best books ever.
Suspenseful. Good book
Hatchet!. This is book is incredible I’ve only been reading it for a week or two and I’ve already finished it. This I could read over and over again it tells such an amazing story. I would definitely recommend it! ❤️
What?. How do people think this book wasn’t great. Also ITS A KIDS BOOK that’s why it’s short. Some of these peeps are dumb.
Amazing. Best book I have ever read!!!
Amazing!!!. We read this book when I was in 3rd or 4th grade and I loved it! It was the book that started my reading journey. It gave me a love of books. I’m 21 now and will never forget this book ❤️
Hatchet..yawn. I read this book on 5th grade, and I remember is that we all hated the book, back then I thought it was boring, and now as a 20 year old I still do. It’s just my opinion, but it is a very bland book, there is nothing that made it special. The only exciting part is when he picks berries from a bush.
Amazing. I loved it! Great story.
Hatchet. Best survival story ever! I do not really like reading but I had to for school and I could not stop reading!!! Love it !!

Fun, exciting, easy read. ...I’m glad it wasn’t me!. The book is a really easy read that still tells a wildly exciting tale of adventure, doubt, survival, and perseverance.

Hatchet. I really like this book. I think the author was creative and the survival aspect of it all was realistic. It's not just about survival it's about growing up and discovering yourself. Great book!
Pee. Pee
Great book. Hatchet is probably my most favourite books
Not good. The story is fine but the way the author put it is extremely boring.

Absolute Boredom. The most boring book ever period. Nothing exciting happens and when something mildly exciting happens it's boring. Why is this so highly rated?

All around great book. A great pastime reader for those to look for survivalist drama with twists and turns
Aaamazing. I read this book this year (5th grade) and it is amazing. We did a really great book report on it and it turned out really cool. I love how Gary Paulson wrote very descriptively so that you could visual what he was saying. That is why I rate this a 5 star book!
Ngcfhx. I did not like this book it was boring and dumb
Great book. It was a good book overall but the ending could have been better like him meeting with his parents
Loved it. What an adventure. Thanks for taking me along.
Hatchet. This was the best book I've ever read Haha..... jk
Awesome book!!. This book is super amazing and I couldn’t put this book down! 😁📖
BORING. This is one of the worst books ive ever read
Error in chapter 9.. I don’t know how to submit an error in the text so I’m putting it in this review in hopes that somebody will see it and fix the error. There is a whole sentence missing on the first page in chapter 9 in the book Hatchet. The sentence says “he settled back on his haunches in exasperation looking at the pitiful clump of grass and twigs.”
Great Book. I read this book in a group in 5th grade and it was a great book. Personally I could have read that in 2nd grade just because of my reading level, but on average about 5th or 6th grade is a great time to read it. If you don't like stories about "scary" or "sad" things in a book then it is probably not for you. I hope you enjoy the book and KEEP ON READING!!!
Amazing. It’s so good my class is reading it for school
This book is for anyone to read!. I found this book in the store and I read the back of this book, I started begging my mom for this book! She finally got it for me! Every day after school I had to read the book!
Awesome book that is addicting to read. I had to read this for 7th grade and I loved it. It just was addicting to read because there are natural things that happen to Brian after the plane crash and with certain circumstances, he needs to adapt, survive, and to thrive after being used to city life.
Not cool. This book is dumb
Amazing. I like how he has a lot of cliff hangers and he likes to keep you reading it is an amazing story and I think you should read this book and the rest of the series
I HATE IT. This book is soooooooooooooooooooooo boring! I had to read this for school and honestly, I found myself skipping pages and sometimes even chapters!! It took the author ONE WHOLE CHAPTER to explain how the boy caught ONE FISH!!!! It's unbelievable! It's overwritten and very predictable. The parts that were interesting (for me that would be the beginning plane crash and the ending) were underwritten!!!!!!
Amazing. I love this book it is what got me into reading definitely one of my top picks!
Amazing. Read this book for my book report and it is now my new favorite book
Hatchet. Amazing book on of my favorite books of all time💯
😍😝Love the 📖. I just loved it!!!!! SOOOO MUCH!I love survival and it just makes me.... I don’t know. All I can say is that it was an awesome book!
The best series I have ever read!. I had to read this book in 7th grade and to be honest I didn't think I would like it. I didn't like to read anything when I was in elementary school but I was forced to read Hatchet. This book is well written and uses extraordinary vocabulary. It seems like a boring story to begin with but it picks up very quickly. Paulsen is an extraordinary writer as well. After having read Hatchet I went on to read the rest of the series, The River, Brian's Winter, and Brian's Return, and loved them all. I also read Brian's Hunt which branches off of the Hatchet series. Hatchet and the series have turned me into a book lover and a Paulsen admirer as well. I have 27 of Paulsen's 175 books and I recommend every one of them to you. I highly recommend Hatchet to anyone who is looking for an adventure and ready to fall in love with reading.
The best. Wow. Just wow
Hatchet. Amazing! The best Gary Paulson book.
Hatchet. Bad violence, graphic description this book was rated 7 plus on commen sensw media more like 14 plus
Five stars!. This book is amazing and it inspires you! Suspense, fear! It really pumps your mind! It tells you the key of survival skills. Brian’s survival in the pilot’s heart attack, a plane that crashed, and a tornado? It amazes me how Brian overcomes the difficulties in the Canadian wilderness. I would recommend this book for those who never read it! 📚😍🤯🤩😻
One of my all time favorites. I had read this book when I was in 6th grade and whoah it blew me away.
Great detail. Love the details!!
Hatchet. I remember reading this book in grade school and realizing just how significant and and how truly wonderful the book was. To remember it after this many years really speaks volumes on it's integrity, and unquantifiable quality. It is truly well written, and the reader can indeed submerse him or herself into the characters triumphs and misgivings. Thank you so much for making this into an Ebook so that I may continue to read and cherish it. Perhaps one day my little ones will read it also, and the legacy of 'Hatchet' may continue.
Awesome🙀. This is an awesome book.I have read all of the Brian books and this one is my favorite by a long shot. You MUST read it.
My Opinion. I think this book isn't my type my school forced me to read this book 2-3 times I don't think it is ok for teachers to force u to read a book u should be able to pick what book u read
Excellent Series. It's the only book that my 10 yr ever read on his own and couldn't wait to delve into. Usually, giving him thick books feel like a chore but he has read this series on his own with no coercing from me. Best of all, his Dad enjoyed reading them too! Gary Paulsen books are always a "win" for my adventures in the house. They enjoy survival shows and this makes them feel like they are the main character and great life lessons on survival!
Good book didn’t mean to put 1 star. 👌yes
Great Book. I was always wanting to read the book during my downtime and the details brought me into his position and it was just extremely entertaining
Great. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean anything if you like survival, hardcore, or perseverance books this is for you
Boooorrrrriiiinnnnggg. Too much detail, not enough plot. Predictable, no suspense, no thrill (except maybe for the first chapter or two)... I got so bored.
One of my favorite books. I remember reading this in school still is one of my top favorite book.
WOW!!!. This is such a great book! They should make a game show based off of the book, kind of lik Naked and Afraid.😂
