Million-copy bestselling author Cathy Glass tells the story of Dawn, a sweet and seemingly well-balanced girl whose outward appearance masks a traumatic childhood of suffering at the hands of the very people who should have cared for her.

Dawn was the first girl Cathy Glass ever fostered. Sweet and seemingly well balanced girl, Dawn’s outward appearance masked a traumatic childhood so awful, that even she could not remember it.

During the first night, Cathy awoke to see Dawn looming above Cathy’s baby’s cot, her eyes staring and blank. She sleepwalks – which Cathy learns is often a manifestation in disturbed children. It becomes a regular and frightening occurrence, and Cathy is horrified to find Dawn lighting a match whilst mumbling it’s not my fault in her sleep one night.

Cathy discovers Dawn is playing truant from school, and struggling to make friends. More worryingly she finds her room empty one night, and her pillow covered in blood. Dawn has been self-harming in order to release the pain of her past.

When Dawn attempts suicide, Cathy realises that she needs more help than she can give. Dawn’s mother eventually confides in her that Dawn was sent away to live with relatives in Ireland between the ages of 5 and 9, and Cathy soon realises that the horrors Dawn was exposed to during this time have left her a very disturbed little girl.

Amazing and relatable. Dawn and I had some things in common and reading this reminded me we all can relate to each other in some way

Cut. I have read other books by Cathy Glass, but they must have been some of her later ones. What a difference in how social services runs now compared to when she first started fostering! I think Dawn's case could and should have been handled a whole lot differently. I am so glad she had a happy ending, or at least we are led to believe she did.

Connected with this book on a personal level and couldn't put it down. I also read this book in less than 5 hours and I was hooked. I felt so strongly for the girl in the book as mental health and self harm is something I have struggled with too and I could connect with the story so much. I had a little cry, a little smile and did not want to part with this book. I wanted more chapters and more story but I knew it had to end at some point, sadly! I think the subject is a touchy one but it was dealt with very realistically and rang true to a lot of young people these days. For someone who has struggled with these issues I didn't feel the subject was dramatised or mistreated like a lot of other books do. I would highly recommend this :) thank you for writing it.

Geat book and easy to read. CUT is a very good book, still very easy to read. I still remember when I bought it in the first place, I was in the airport and I was looking for a good book. Cut was a choice I don't regret at all, and neither will you.

Sad but heartwarming. Could not put this book down. The one thing that would put me off fostering... Sleepwalking. Yet Cathy handled it so wonderfully, what an inspiration.

Very good. As all Cathy glass Books another very good read. Despite the outcome not being as I intended I can appreciate that these books are based on true events and that is what keeps me reading more. I feel like with each book I not only get to know the children she fosters but also her whole family

Hhsudkskaisgavamo

Happy ending!. Good read, couldn't stop reading it. Worth the money!
