Fun read. I enjoyed reading this book. I liked how there was romance and passion but not graphic and disturbing. It was a fun quick read for all ages. Nice job.

The host. Nothing wrong with the actual book as the Host is probably the only meyer book I enjoy. The app was not transparent enough as to which was the audiobook and was a text version. Buy this thinking it's the audio version for a 24 hour car ride and to my dismay it's the book itself. There goes 8.99 and the ability to actually enjoy this book.

Amazing!!. Agh!! I just love this book!! Wanda is the sweetest thing ever!! I love the total angelic approach she has to everything and the sweet and gentle way she perceives everything!! The way she is so selfless is so heartwarming and beautiful!! I loved it- an amazing book for someone who’s looking around for a good book to read on a long night!!

Host. What happened to the last 4 chapters? Did the author get tired of writing? Really a bad way to end a good book, shame on you.

A favorite. I read this book for the first time years ago, and I always come back. I’ve read my physical copy so many times the spine fell apart. It’s such a beautiful story about humanity- the beauty and darkness that exists in all of us. It’s a story of loss, war, the will to survive, and love above all else. These characters worm their way into your heart and the story keeps you invested until the very end. This book is just an amazing read. I imagine I’ll read it many more times in the coming years.

Meyer does science fiction. This is by far the best book Meyer has written. Clever, intriguing, a story about finding love far beyond ordinary times and places. The heart-rending passionate way the main character sacrifices for the little brother she would do anything to defend, and the true friendship demonstrated by Wanda are touching and real. Truly a great read.

Mehhh.... One BIG thing I gotta say is... After 20ish pages I was BORED!! The reason I bought this book was because I wanted to see the movie but I really hate to see a movie before reading the book if I think it might be good . I was disappointed, the idea was so interesting yet everything seemed... Mishandled. There seemed like there were many opportunities to make it exciting and worth reading. I got sick of most of the characters and would unintentionally skip over pages often. Okay, long story short. If you're looking for a thrill ride you will not find one here.

Amazing!. I decided to read this before I watched the movie. I absolutely loved it! I couldn't put this book down. I loved the detailed plot and characters.

Amazing Tearjerking Sci-fi. Loved everything about this book. The way that she writes the perspective of the main character really makes you feel connected and empathetic towards the conflicts that arise. It has enough elements of science fiction, action, and emotional turmoil to really get you hooked on it.

Just me. Wonderful story. I just wish she would have given us more about Jared and Mel's reunion. I waited so long for that. And in the end I felt disappointed to not be able to enjoy that part of the story. Their story was just as important as Ian's and Wanda's!

Astonishing. The Host is a phenomenal novel about the romance between the human Melanie's true love and the soul Wanderer's true love. While trying to figure out this love triangle she is distracted by letting everyone believe Melanie is still alive in their body. The intertwining action and romance make the book come alive and it makes the reader feel as if the characters are real. Personally this is my ultimate favorite book ever. A gripping original (as far as I know) story that keeps you fully focused so you don’t miss anything that could shed more light on where the story is going. Boring. Honestly, I could not get into this book. It's so boring and unoriginal that I couldn't even finish it.

Her best yet!. I have read all books published by Stephanie Myers, and this by far has been my favorite! I couldn't put it down. The story line was amazing, and loved how it made you wonder what cations you would take or how you would feel. Characters are so well done that by the time you finish the book they feel real. When you end on that last page it is depressing and devastating because you just don't want it to end. After reading this book you will be like, "What other books by Myers?" Wish there were more books to follow!

Love it!. This is my second time reading it and it’s better the second time then it was the first. My absolute favorite of her books. It had the perfect ending. But still wish there could be more about the world Mrs.Mayers has created for us in this book. 🤭

Amazing. This book is amazing it has a slow start but once you get past that you can’t put it down.

Way beyond what I could have ever imagined. I'd heard from several friends and family members that this was a good book. However, I never imagined that it would be as fabulous as it was. I didn't want to stop reading it. All of the characters had so much depth and were very relatable. The way the reader is made to feel angry and betrayed by the aliens in the beginning and then feel sorry for them and relate to them was wonderful. I felt so conflicted because my feelings for Wanda were so strong and I wanted her to live, but I also wanted Melanie to get her body and life back. This book was so emotional for me. I felt sadness, happiness, anger, guilt, frustration and love. In so happy the story ended the way it did. I couldn't have imagined a better ending to the story.

A Sci-Fi cult classic!. I am a huge alien fanatic, and I gotta say that this book really made my love of aliens grow stronger. Alien and romance fans will love it

Not my cup of tea. I never read any of the Twilight novels, so this was my first exposure to Stephanie Meyer. I didn't much care for her writing style, and I felt the whole concept of the book was a bit contrived. It's like a teen romance version of "The Puppet Masters," only without any real paranoia, adventure, excitement, or interesting characters. This wasn't a bad book, but it was far from a good one. If you liked Twilight, I'm guessing you'll like this. But if you're a sci-fi fan, there are better books available to read.

This is my new favorite book. I couldn’t put this book down once I started reading. I felt myself identifying with all of the characters. I was a bit disappointed seeing critics downrate this and the movie and even comparing it to twilight. I find this book to be entirely it’s own and something that I have never read before. Everything the characters are feeling and sensing, the audience does too. I wish I hadn’t seen the movie before reading this just because they have their differences and my mental image is only of the movie now but they’re are both my favorite. I 100% recommend this if you like sci-fi, romance, and honestly an adventure because this entire book keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Sci-Fi with mystery. This book was good and I also saw the movie. The movie wasn’t as good as the book since it was in more detail, but this read isn’t the same read as twilight. It’s a sci-fi type of book. If you are into clones and stuff like that then this book is for you, other than that it is really creative and the plot has its twists and turns etc. I give this book 4 stars.

I loved this book. The Host was really unique in so many aspects! I even liked it more than some of her books in the twilight saga. I really would love to see a sequel to this series as Meyer herself has promised. But, considering how long she took publishing midnight sun, I still hold on to the hope of the trilogy. If your a fan of sci fi, or even if you were someone who didn’t like her other books, give this a go. It doesn’t disappoint

OMG best book ever. OMG. I love the twilight series so I read this book. It took me a bit to get into it cause the beginning was a little slow. But i promise you, if you just give it a chance you will love it! It made me laugh and cry! I NEED my own copy. Ian is my favorite by far, and I plan on watching the movie real soon. So great. The twilight series is laughable next to this. The Host is so good, I love Wanda, she’s got an interesting thing going with Ian, and then there’s Melanie, who definitely wants out. It’s a really good sci fi, really crazy love triangle in here, just wanted to give you a fair warning. Definitely read this book, it’s so great.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. I bought this book because I am a huge twi hard and I was looking for something to read and I thought I’d try one of Stephanie Meyer’s other books. I love sci fi and I thought this might be good.It did not disappoint. It started a little slow but once I got in to it I literally could not put it down. I actually read this book while I walked. It is so good. Ian is definitely the best character. I love the romance between Ian and Wanda. I love the relationship between Wanderer and Melanie.The book really makes you care about the characters. This book is truly spectacular.

Love, love, love the book, The Host!. I absolutely LOVE this book! I’ve read and re-read it 4 or 5 times. I love how Wanda makes her OWN friends through her passionate personality, and grieved for them when they were lost. Also how she and Melanie became friends, or more like sisters, towards the end of the book. I’ll probably re-read it again here soon. I would LOVE to see a second book involving the same characters. They are like family to me! Maybe Lily could find love again.

A masterpeice. The host is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. Stephanie Meyer captured si-fi and mixed it into a romantic story. Melanie who is one of the last survivors of the human population is soon captured by souls, or alien forms that take over human bodies. She had a younger brother Jamie, and a boy she deeply loved, Jared Howe. A soul by the name of Wanderer is put inside of Melanie, but however, Melanie is still alive inside. Wanderer/Melanie eventually find their way back to Jared and Jamie through the deserts of Arizona. Melanie's uncle, Jeb, is the only one to accept her at first and gives wanderer the name of Wanda. Eventually, Wanda falls in love with a human Ian who loves her back. Wanda knows how to take souls out of human bodies now and wants to give Melanie her life back. In the end, Wanda and Melanie both get their own bodies and live with their loved ones. I cannot tell you how great this book is. At first i knew i wouldn't like it because its you know, science fiction, but i could not stop crying buckets and buckets of tears after. The love story behind this book is so heartwarming yet tragic in a way. I absolutely fell in love with the characters. Thank you Stephanie Meyer for writing this masterpiece.

Fantastic!. This is one that you don't want to put down until it done but you don't want it to be done!

One of my favorites!. I'll admit, the first few chapters are a little confusing and hard to follow, but after you get past the introduction of what's happening, the story really takes off. I watched the movie first, and was still staying up late to read what happened next! It is a story full of complex feelings, and many emotions that really keep you interested. The characters are so realistic, even though it is a science fiction novel, and easy to imagine it happening in the real world. I loved the side romance in the story too. I loved twilight, but having a romance as a second focus was refreshing. It is one of my favorite books, and I think it is definitely worth the ,money!

One of my favorite books. This book is amazing I love the characters and the plot. I liked this book much more than the twilight series (I know a lot of people like those books I'm not trying to be mean I'm just giving my opinion) I can't wait for the movie I am sure it will be amazing as well and for people who say it was hard to get into just leave it alone until you have some time then start it you will find the beginning is actually pretty interesting if you take the time and don't judge the host by the twilight books because I know some people who won't read the host because of the twilight books but the books are nothing alike! Anyway the point of this really long review is read the book it's really good!

Stick to crappy love stories, sweetheart.. She's obviously trying a science fiction story because its in now, like The Hunger Games and Divergent. At least they make it clear by information, she makes it so bluntly obvious, not to mention that she just had to add in a sappy love story. She needs to stick to her crappy love stories and leave the sci-fi to the professionals, or at least decent writers.

Read it over and over!. I first read this about 3 years ago... I loved it! I've read it so many times again... and I still love it :) It does start off pretty boring but definitely picks up... it's nothing like twilight so don't judge it based on that. It's amazing!

Sure. Honestly, I loved twilight and sure she is a great writer but this book has me at a loss for words. I found it different and usually that's a good thing but this book was very slow and wasn't very interesting. It felt like it was missing a key detail I just couldn't figure out.

Lol. The Host is probably the best of stephenie meyers work. The story is original and less about intense cheesy romance like in the twilight series. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the series. This novel is simply, in my opinion, her best. To the disappointed poster, I'm not sure how you read the book, but I suggest you attempt to reread it. It could just be how you see the book, but I honestly believe that if you really settle in and think each sentence through, you'll get a better grasp on the plot. I'm not saying your mentally challenged or anything. I admit, the first time i read this, I was bored. I flipped through, skipped some pages. After a month, I picked it up and just really hunkered down. Pretending as if every single word was amazing actually made me "get" the book better. To everyone else, I strongly recommend the host. The perfect amount of sci fi, romance, and suspense to keep you imersed.

Truly Recommended. The minute I started this book I didn't want to stop. I thought the story line was long, however, each page was so well written, it didn't matter. To be honest I didn't realize there was a long plot. I recommend this novel to people who are fans of Stephanie Meyers books, but also to people who are into sci-fi, fantasy, and/or romance. (Warning: Even though your a fan of Stephanie Meyer and like sci-fi, fantasy, and/or romance as much I do, there is a possible chance you won't like it so I recommend getting a sample first) But overall I think it is worth the money, if you enjoy this book.

Great book!. Great book! But I did expect more of the ending...

Too long, too abstract, too...... Didn't like this book at all. Only read it to the end cos it was by Stephanie Meyer. The first half was repetitive and uneventful, the second half was predictable. This book could have been written in half the # of pages. The love triangle took too long to play out, there were too many characters, a lot more than the Cullen's. I won't be seeing the movie.

Could have been better. I could not get into the story until about half ways. The middle of the book gets better as the story evolves around Melanie & all of the humans. The end made me dislike the whole story & regret having spent the money & time on it. I can tell the book was completely changed when made into a movie. So i don't understand all of the hype now that the film has just come out in theaters. I consider myself a fair judge when it comes to books, but this was not exciting or interesting.

One thing I am worried about is that I have see some trailers for the movie and in said trailers they show MUCH MORE action than the book and some things that I don't even think were in the book. So I just hope they don't stray away from the original story too much within the making of the movie.

SOOO much better!. I guess you could call me a twihard, but THIS is soo much more mature with a beautiful theme: What it means to be human, and what to do when in the face of a dilemma of loyalty. A great read that will have you salivating to turn the page.

A surprise. This book is excellent! I loved Wanda/wanderer's discovery of home, love, and sacrifice for those things. This is NOT twighlight or body snatchers but something new and wonderfully written. The first time I read the book, I finished it in 12 hrs. Literally couldn't put it down. Four rereads later and I'm still feeling the emotions of the story and its truly well developed characters. I would only have wished for more Melanie/Wanderer conversations but that was only because I loved their interactions so much. Truly a unique and engaging story that I'm glad to have taken a chance on.

Not Much. Yes, I've read the Twilight series. Though only the first book is the series' best, Breaking Dawn being its worst. The Host looked promising so I read it - before the movie ordeal. All in all, it was just okay. I would put it with Twilight: between three and four stars, but The Host earns a three from me. The story is interesting. But I don't muster up much affection with books with heavy love triangles, melodrama, and the sort. I probably wouldn't read it again. If you're a fan of Stephenie Meyer, then yes, this book is a must-read. If you didn't like (or even hated) Twilight, give The Host a chance. You may actually be surprised. Of course it is going to seem "above" Twilight or more mature in some ways, as Twilight was Stephenie's first book, so things have improved.

You will not regret this.. I'm a huge fan of sci-fi/post apocalyptic/dystopian novels but I'll be honest...I wasn't sure if I wanted to read the book at first...I wasn't a twilight fan...no offense but I was dying for something to read and I saw the movie previews which looked pretty cool so I gave it a shot. What I didn't expect was to be so caught up I read it in less than 24 hours...and that I would find myself so moved...so emotionally connected. I didn't even notice that I was crying right away. And there were times where it wasn't just silent tears but actual sobs. This is a beautiful story that goes way beyond the sci fi fantasy which in and of itself is awesome. I felt this story in my gut, in my heart and Stephenie Meyer hits it right on the head when she describes the emotions felt by these characters. Please don't hesitate like I did to read this. Even if she never writes the sequels I will be forever happy to have read this story and become so engrossed by it. I have never written a review before and I read a book a week at least. This is worth it...that's all I can say.

The Host. i've got to admit the first couple of chapters are slow but after the plot starts moving it really takes off. one of my favorite books. I highly recommend reading it twice... or even more... there is always something new that sticks out with each reread that ties the story together

Great book. I really enjoyed this book. I've never read any of the twilight books and I'm glad so I had nothing to compare it to. I just thought it was a great easy read with an enjoyable plot.

My favorite book!. When I first read it I couldn't put it down! Now it's my favorite book and I've read it like 4 times!! This is a great book. And I love the work of Stephanie Meyers!

Phenomenol. Totally impressed. The first time I read it, it was nearly impossible to put it down! Still is and always will be. Well planed and very descriptive. I haven't seen the movie yet, though I can't wait to see it and compare. Defiantly one of my favorite books of all time!

Seeing all sides. What I enjoyed with The Host was how the author explored all the avenues of pain, friendship and honor between Wanderer and Melanie, and how their relationship grew from hatred, through mistrust, unwilling cooperation, collusion to respect and love. Like Melanie, I am not always admirable in my behavior and thoughts, so I appreciate an author who can expand my views beyond my often egocentric focus. While it is difficult for me to imagine ever "wanting" an alien to stay in my body, we humans have already developed symbiotic relationships with living organisms (bacteria, parasites) that we unthinkingly accept and benefit by-who can say where these relationships may evolve to?

It won't be for everyone. This book is about 600 pages long, so if you were bored, I totally get it. The first 300 pages are a lot of backstory, and a somewhat ridiculous amount of "pacing" for lack of a better term. But I did find that after powering through the first half of the book, the second half picked up in interest. There are a lot of similar elements in this to Twilight. For example, it's heavily centered on it's romance, which is a weird (but I actually thought really cool) love square. You'll find characters treating Wanda as being inferior, which was how Bella was treated in Twilight. However, the reason this book is much better than Twilight is because Melanie/Wanda don't just lay down and give up and let people walk all over them like Bella did. If, for no other reason, read this for comparison purposes. If you can get through the first half, you may enjoy it. But, it may not be for you, and if that's the case, I would agree that this romance plot is becoming a bit old from Stephenie Meyer.

One of my favorite books!!!!!!. I love this book and I think Stephanie did a great job writing it! It is completely different from twilight, with more real characters, better plot line, and a good balance between romance and action. I don't think it was a smart idea to make it into a movie. Though the book was great, Stephanie's book's don't translate well on screen. I think it was as good as they could get it but It just did not work for me. Not the same effect as the book.

Loooong. This book could've been much shorter. I skipped alot of pages. It was a big struggle to get through the book because it just dragged and was boring, but I had to finish it because I paid for it and didn't want my money to go to waste! I bought this book because I had planned to watch the movie. Now? I would much rather watch something else.

A MUST READ!!!. The depth and clarity in which Stephenie Meyer explains everything as well as the unique and unusual plot makes this a must read. Unlike any book I have read and absolutely amazing. If you have any doubts, just read it! Will make you laugh, stress, and cry. Hope she writes a follow up!
