The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie Book Summary

“This is Agatha Christie’s masterpiece, and if she never wrote another word, she’d have still gone down as the Queen.” –LOUISE PENNY, #1 New York Times bestselling author

“Ingenious and unexpected.” –NEW YORK TIMES

The official edition of the beloved classic voted by the British Crime Writers’ Association as the "Best Crime Novel of all Time," now featuring a new introduction by Louise Penny, a foreword from Agatha Christie's great grandson, and exclusive content from the Queen of Mystery.

Roger Ackroyd knew too much. He knew that the woman he loved had poisoned her brutal first husband. He suspected also that someone had been blackmailing her. Then, tragically, came the news that she had taken her own life with an apparent drug overdose.

However, the evening post brought Roger one last fatal scrap of information, but before he could finish reading the letter, he was stabbed to death. Luckily one of Roger’s friends and the newest resident to retire to this normally quiet village takes over—none other than Monsieur Hercule Poirot . . .

Not only beloved by generations of readers, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was one of Agatha Christie’s own favorite works—a brilliant whodunit that firmly established the author’s reputation as the Queen of Mystery.

The best Agatha Christie’s book !! I’ve read it many times and every time I enjoy it and always find something new and exciting ! I recommend it to all fans of this genre.

If you like crime novels than this is the one book you need to read immediately. Modern writers look to Agatha for inspiration. This is the greatest crime novel of all time.

A MasterClass on what writing the perfect novel should look like!!! Christie at her finest!!!! #BRAVO👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Agatha Christie at her best.

Great read on a stay at home weekend. It was hard to put the “book”down. As many have said M. Hercule Poirot introduces himself in an unassuming way but vet quickly takes center stage noticing all and choreographing the characters unbeknownst to them. A must read.

The ending to this book genuinely shocked me. I recommend this for your first Agatha Christie book if you’re new to the author. DO NOT seek out any spoilers, just let this one happen to you.

I guess it would have been awesome if the person didn’t say who did it in the reviews.

Crazy Ending lol...writing has to be very good to pull that off AND make sense

She had me going til the end. Bravo, Ms. Christie and thank you for a wonderful story.

In most mysteries, I guess the murderer. In this one, I had no clue until the end. Some of the other reviewers seem confused as to the perpetrator, but I don't see how it is confusing. The story is pretty straight forward, and gets really interesting at the end. The writing is amazing, and had me entwined in the pages.

Agatha Christie is the master of the English country-house murder, and 'Murder of Roger Ackroyd' is one of the best plotted and best executed of her masterpieces. Entertaining read that will give your little gray cells at least a gentle massage.

A satisfying mystery from Christie which keeps you guessing until the end and starring Inspector Poirot...EAF

Great

I was told to read this book as fast as possible. It wasn't hard to do. A real page turner with a great plot twist surprising for the time period in which it was written.

One of my favorite books.

Very much so enjoyed the book, but to much use of the 'little grey cells' for me. Also, the ending confuses me. Did doctor Shepard kill mr. Ackroyd?

although every agatha christie novel is almost impossible to predict, this one takes the cake. cleverly written. this novel will change the way you see the genre of mystery. honestly. not only is it a revolutionary case, but it's interesting to follow and watch the different plotlines unravel. five stars. this is a must read. ps - dont read this book first, though! being the wildest and most revolutionary, it will make all the others seem too plain, and thats saying something!
