Awesome book!. It was a little slow in the beginning, but once Cathy comes on the scene, it's totally a winner! Usually I Iike contemporary novels, hate chic lit and this is one of the first classic book besides "To Kill A Mockingbird" I enjoyed. It could almost be called a thriller. It seems every Oprah book she picks are one of the best books I've ever read. I am only through with part one and I can't believe what Cathy did to nice Adam. I can't wait to read "Anna Korenina" God this book rocks! Can't wait to see how this goes, I'm so excited to finish this ! Read this book, if you like psychopaths and drama buy this book and as stated I am not a fan of classic fiction.

Amazing book. I have never read a book so human or expect to again. This book changed how I live my life.

Epic novel. This is a masterpiece of a book, epic in its scope of characters, times and story. It mirrors the story of Cain and Abel lightly, but enough to help us see this is the story of all of us.

WARNING. Do not buy this nook until fix the formatting. It is really messed up. Chapters are on one page and then cut off. There are no breaks between paragraphs. How did this get past quality control? I really hope this is not indicative of the ibookstore's quality overall. I wonder how to report this? Or get a refund... (and yea, I tried redownloading with no luck.)

Loved it!. It’s not often for me when classic literature crosses with easy read, but this was it for me. Beautiful story.

An inspirational journey traveled through time. East of Eden has been on my ‘must read’ list for quite some time. This book transforms family characters into common people flawed with genetic personality faults that make each character unique and common to relate to. The town described takes you to that time and inspires readers to follow along the journey of life, family, and sorrows that come from living life to the fullest. No great story is told without love through the pain felt of experiencing and the greater pain felt of losing it.

Lasting impression. A poignant retelling of Cain and Abel of sorts. The characters and locales are compelling enough to carry the story forward and kept me fixated throughout. The commentary on the human condition is some of the best I've ever encountered. "Timshel," indeed.

Fix the formatting!. Downloaded the sample and it is unreadable in it's current format. Please fix! I really want this book!

Holy pulitzer Batman. This book deserved the Pulitzer. Best novel I've ever read.

Impressive. My brother recommended I read this and once I started I couldn't put it down. Honestly, it's a waste to have high school and college students read this. Generally, they are too young and inexperienced to understand the genius behind this story. Give someone a few years of life experience and tragedy and then is story really brings meaning to life. Enjoy!

Incredible. East of Eden is my favorite book. The themes of good and evil and free will were so beautifully explored. I fell in love with the characters, the plot, the descriptions of the landscape, and the masterful storytelling.

Great.Book.. Now I read this book starting October of my eighth grade year (I am a rising ninth grader)and it has shaped my subconscious and affected my life to an undescribable magnitude. I watched the movie and immediately descended upon the school library to scope it out (I honsestly do not think that anyone checked out that book before since it looked so fresh and virginal). I was shocked that every character connected to my soul, from Cal to Lee to Adam. I will never forget this book, for it sits peacefully in the back of my mind for futher reference.

Depth. East of Eden became my favorite book when I read it as a late teenager, but my appreciation grows each time I return to its brilliance. Every reader should be able to identify with its premise, which reminds us that we all are ultimately responsible for our path in life. Opportunity awaits, regardless of supposition.

essential. life is made up of decisions based on the moral judgment of human beings. this is what steinbeck tries to portray on this novel. please read it you won't regret it...

Great read with a great ending. Cons: an overly developed and overly Satanized character which could have been developed and done with in 1/12th of the time... I basically stopped reading this book 3 times because I was disturbed, and give one star off because the character was perhaps overdone. Overall great read and an interesting take on original sin, and overcoming fate/hardships

A Great Classic. East of Eden is a 20th century masterpiece. Steinbeck uses his characters and background to create a realistic portrayal of human struggle. Sometimes brutal, sometimes hopeful, it's a broad, deep, sprawling epic.

East of Eden. Great Classic. I read Grapes of Wrath in school and revisited this as an adult. Realism at its best. The central theme is one of life's great lessons.

Brilliant writing. Some of the finest writing produced by an American legend. This book is so unbelievably good. I don't have the iBook, just an old fashioned bound book, but this is so, so good.
