And those that do enjoy playing with humans far too much. He also knows he’s the best at what he does. Technically, he’s the only at what he does. But even though Harry is the only game in town, business—to put it mildly—stinks.

So when the Chicago P.D. bring him in to consult on a double homicide committed with black magic, Harry's seeing dollar signs. But where there's black magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name...

New fan. Loved it! Looking forward to the rest in the series!

Storm Front Review. The first entry in the Dresden Files series, which I have just now gotten around to reading after hearing for years everyone harping on and on about how good it is, is a perfectly good novel. That’s about all I have to say about it. It’s good. Not bad. Not great. But good. It’s entertaining, and it’s enthralling lead character makes up for it’s somewhat lackluster mystery. Overall, a pretty strong novel that does a good job of setting up the world and characters for future entries.

Storm Front. Throughly enjoyed the read.

Not the worst but not the best. It was ok but i wont be rereading it. The guys supposed to be a wizard but gets beat up by a regular guy? Who wants to read about a weak wizard

Tyler Mendenhall

Overall, really good. I found the overall book really good! There were some parts that seemed really predictable and the writing style isn't my preference but the book was really good, I can't wait to get into the next one.

Fast and entertaining, but not the best book I have read. I had just finished reading a grueling novel and needed something fast, 'light', and entertaining to get back into reading. The Dresden Files book one was just what I needed. The writing style is casual and very easy to follow. The story was entertaining but fairly obvious from the start. It was a good introduction to the world of Harry Dresden and sorcery. I will definitely read more of this series but only after the prices drop significantly since I was able to read this one so fast. Definitely a GoodRead!

Atomicjijo

Pretty strong start. I would give it 5 stars but I’ve yet to see if this is the best these books can get although I’ve heard this one is one of the worst. That being said if this is one of the worst in the series it’s going to be a great time!

Thechoedenkal

Ugh.. I have serious doubts about whether the first book alone is worth finishing, let alone whether I should even attempt to continue the series. Who on earth writes this garbage?

Brookyss

Fantastic. As an avid book reader who got my start as a kid reading Harry Potter, the Dresden Files was a terrific transition into adult fantasy fiction. I’ve read through the series multiple times and it is by far my favorite book series of all time. Characters are all fantastic and extremely well written and the stories are always engaging and exciting. Highly recommend these books!!

Curly’s Ramblings

Meh. I had a really hard time staying attuned to this story. The support characters and even Harry seem one dimensional. The storyline was interesting but predictable.

Storm Front. I was at a point that I didn't want to read for leisure as I once used to. I have been trying to get my degree and got so tired of reading because of all the reading I had to do from textbooks. This book has changed that. This is a very easy read, holds your interest to the point of not wanting to put the book down. I have read this book in about a week. It used to take me forever to read any book. Very, very impressed and excited to start the next one in the series. I highly recommend this book. I am told by several close friends that each book gets better. Jim Butcher has broken the lock on the door that has kept me from wanting to read for leisure. Thank you very much Jim Butcher.

One of the pieces of pop modern fantasy ever written. A great reread if you had the pleasure of reading the entire series since 2000. Introduces a lot of the beloved recurring characters and fleshes out a lot of the magic system. Also this is a classic murder mystery format. Really brings you back to the early days

Gdub2019

Storm Front. Loved the TV series. Book is just as good.

Necro Cryx

Abnormal Detective. So much fun! From beginning to end. Absolutely loved this book. Such a enjoyable read. I cannot express how much I loved this book and how excited I am to continue with this series. Hands down my one of my favorite characters.

Book #1. Good first book in the series. Makes me want to read the next one.

Bbsfresh

Ok. Don’t see what all the hype is about concerning the Dresden Files, maybe the series get better, but this book was definitely a let down, considering all the rave reviews, and advertising.

Very nice introduction.. A nice introduction to the world of Dresden. While I was hesitant at first, after the story got going I enjoyed this one a lot, and was ready for more.

More than a good read!. Let me start by saying this: When for a purpose outside my own, I hate reading. However, on my own will and accord, I really enjoy it! This book....this wonderful, wonderful book made me love reading even more! It was one of those books that you don't want to put down! I've been reading at home, during school, and even at work (but don't tell anyone). I've been rolling around and creating a world of my own and have been preparing to write it, & this book gave me the extra step an more of a hype to get started right away! :) Loved this book! Look forward to reading the others! Oh thank god there are more of them!!! Thank You Jim!

Chubax

Interesting!. Good start to a series. Wish It would have had more of the major storyline that spans the entire series, but it has more than enough for me to gladly continue!

A fun read.. My rating system: 5 stars are reserved for books that totally blow me away. I don’t give too many of these out, since it is almost like giving the book a 100%. It is nearly impossible to write a truly perfect book. 4 stars for books that I would recommend to just about anyone, or, at least, to someone who doesn’t dislike the genre. 3 stars for books that I would only recommend to someone with a strong interest in the particular genre. 2 stars for books that I would be hesitant to recommend to anyone at all, but the book was not a total disaster. 1 star for books that were so terrible or ridiculous for me that I wish I had not wasted time on reading it to begin with.

For anyone needing a way to escape.. I love this book series almost more than any other I have ever read. It is one of the best and most captivating reads I have found to date. I’m writing this review mainly for people who need something solid to sit with on a day where you need some alone time allow yourself to be immersed in an awesome and crazy magical world. This is just the first book and I promise you it just gets better :-)

Babylonsean

Good, Fun Read. This book kicks of the Dresden Files series, and does a reasonably good job getting the reader to like Harry Dresden, the series' main character. The books plot is decent, and the characters, while not particularly deep, are decent. Some of the events in the book seem kind of scattered, and there are a few gaps in logic, but overall I found the book well worth reading.

Alysco2003

So Fun!. I loved this book! Harry's got a great way of describing his situations that you want to crack up although you know he's in danger. I'm off to the next book.

TheDangerMouse

Brilliant, full of roguish charm.. I was loathe to come anywhere near this series due to it's television syndication. I am delighted to say that I was completely taken aback by the clever characters and completely sucked in by the rough knight in tarnished armor Harry Dresden is. His self-depreciation and stubborn sense of honor makes him a wayward hero I will enjoy reading about for many books to come. If you like this, look up Glen Cook's P.I. Novels. You won't be disappointed in those either.

Cybersusieq

Do it. If you are thinking about reading the Dresden Files STOP!!! That thinking would be better spent reading this series which has become my favorite book series. You have to give Butcher a but of slack for the first few books in this series as they were the first books he had ever written. That is not to say however that even the first few books aren't wonderful pieces of literature. Jim Butcher is truly a master author and both of his series (which I read all of at least twice a year) have given much pleasure in my life. In short stop thinking about reading these books and just do it!!! IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER!!!!

TvWayne

Dresden Rocks. Great start to my 4th favorite series and my 3rd favorite fictional literary character

Gavpat

Enjoyable. This is nice combination of 2 of my favorite genre’s, sarcastic detective (Spenser for Hire) and Fantasy (JRR). With that in mind, I found this an enjoyable escape into a good read. Looking forward to reading some of the follow on chapters of this likable character. If you enjoy either genre, you’ll enjoy this.

Dedpool

Very good so far. I am on page one fourth two of my paperback copy and I am loving this series!

Aingefan

Holmes gets a wand.. "Storm Front" is an excellent read for anyone who likes a good mystery/adventure. Dresden plays the perfect surly detective of the netherworld. The book is smartly written with all kinds of creativity. Butcher takes a different look at Magic (this is not a grown up Harry Potter), but it works. This Harry is a sarcastic realist who you like as soon as you are introduced to him, and his story keeps your attention through every page.

Fatemaster2014

Masterpiece.. This book is a good enough reason why they should bring back the show, only it should be done exactly like Tru Blood. Imagine the fun that would be like.

Kimery59

Easy read. Just the kind of book you need when you're looking to escape for a while. Great characters, images and creatures. Look forward to reading the rest of this series.

Magic and mayhem. It was a fantastic read. Investigation and magic with a little bit of wickedness to hit the spot

Entertaining. Good book. Enough to be interested in next book. Thanks Jim

About Author "Jim Butcher"

Jim Butcher (born October 26, 1971) is an American author. He has written the contemporary fantasy The Dresden Files, Codex Alera, and Cinder Spires book series. Personal life Butcher was born in Independence, Missouri, in 1971. He is the youngest of three children, having two older sisters. He has one son, James J. Butcher. Career While he was sick with strep throat as a child, Butcher's sisters introduced him to The Lord of the Rings and The Han Solo Adventures novels to pass the time, thus beginning his fascination with fantasy and science fiction. As a teenager, he completed his first novel and set out to become a writer. After many unsuccessful attempts to enter the traditional fantasy genre (he cites J. R. R. Tolkien, Lloyd Alexander, and C. S. Lewis, among others, as major influences), he wrote the first book in The Dresden Files—about a professional wizard, named Harry Dresden, in modern-day Chicago—as an exercise for a writing course in 1996 at the age of 25. For two year....
