Encore in Death by J. D. Robb

Encore in Death by J. D. Robb Book Summary

The homicide cop with a passion for justice returns in the captivating crime thriller series by the #1 New York Times bestselling author.

It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a celebrity couple who’d conquered both Hollywood and Broadway. And now Eve Dallas has made her entrance—but not as a guest. After raising a toast, Fitzhugh fell to the floor and died, with physical symptoms pointing to cyanide, and the police have crashed the party.

From all accounts, he wasn’t the kind of star who made enemies. Everyone loved him—even his ex-wife. And since the champagne cocktail that killed him was originally intended for Eliza, it’s possible she was the real target, with a recently fired assistant, a bitter rival, and an obsessed fan in the picture. With so many attendees, staff, and servers, Eve has her work cut out determining who committed murder in the middle of the crowd—and what was their motivation. As one who’s not fond of the spotlight herself, she dreads the media circus surrounding a case like this. All she wants is to figure out who’s truly innocent, and who’s only acting that way…

Good. Starts slow, after way too many details it finally gets good

Love this murder cop and her stories. I thought I figured it out, then thought I was wrong, then found out I was right. What a convoluted mess this was with all the different players. And as usual, Eve and crew never disappoint. This is one of the best with all the recurring characters and new mysteries to solve.

Encore in Death. What a let down. Not her best work the first half of the book feels like it was written by a different person.

Still my favorite series of all but not my favorite book therein. Missed some more of the usual characters and humor in this one. The case was good, but it’s the characters that make this series an anomaly.

Oops!. Chapter 3. McNab says stalker out in 3. - 6 paragraphs later Eve said check if he’s still in. So far excellent as expected.

The Big Five

Finally gets there. The murder happens in the first chapter. It takes too long with too little excitement to get to the real story. The end wraps up well. There are a lot of characters and it is a bit hard to keep them straight.

Formulaic Eve Dallas. No big surprises here. It’s good but just a rehashing of the other “Death” books. Formulaic. Just don’t know why Nora insists on writing these books as set in the future. References to “vids” (movies) and “links” (cell phones) are more than a little corny.

My favorite series!. Great story as usual, have read all her books,in the last couple of years have started downloading to my IPhone and IPad.I read my fist book many years ago,I was looking at books in the Sam’s I was working at in Dallas,Tx.When I was reading about the book I saw the name Dallas and it intrigued me,I bought it and started reading that night,I was hooked on the story.I started looking for all of the previous books and managed to collect all of them.I have never been disappointed .I look forward to each new story and when I know the date, mark it on my calendar,I also like her Nora Robert’s books too,I like all of the the characters in her stories, after reading these books for so long it feels like I know them all,it’s so hard to put it down when you start reading it,I just finished and it’s 5am!

Good read. Another novel you can’t stop reading

Worst In the In Death series….. I agree with an earlier comment, from the very beginning this book doesn’t read like the normal In Death books. The dialogue was off for all of the characters. Definitely lacked the depth that normally comes with these stories. Love the series and this won’t keep me from reading them in the future, but this book was very disappointing, hard to finish.

Very disappointing. I await eagerly each book in this series, and this was one of the worst. Short, poor character development, and unimaginative plot.

Darlene Sparkie

Encore. Boring.

Dr Mom 29

Great Read. Another winner with a drawn out suspenseful and unexpected twist.

Poison is a Killer. Maybe not her best, but an intriguing story with several possible suspects. Not as much interaction with her very rich husband. Interesting how the case turns after the suspect is identified. Always need to close all the loopholes.

Encore in Death. Enjoyable

Encore in death. Released today. Read today. Put it on my Calendar. I really needed this book at this time. Wish it was longer. Took me an rainy afternoon in early Feb here in rural NE TX to buy and read it. It’s my favorite escape mechanism when i need one. JD Robb is Nora Roberts is my fav author who writes my favorite series. I’ve read every In Death book. They are all good easy reads that engross you, take you straight to Dallas and Roark along with all their friend/work group. They are all my friends now, too.

OK but not as good as the others.. It’s a good book but not as good most of the others. I’ve read all the rest. Of the JD ROBB books and this was not as suspenseful.

Great detective story.. This was a pure detective story. No side characters, no Eve and Rourke play, no future tech tools, just the well crafted mystery with Eve and Peabody working it.

Old Bikermama

Excellent. Your books are never a disappointment! I have loved each and every one!

Excellent, as always.. Another great read.

Encore in Death. Always a really good read. This one a little slow and predictable. Not enough Roarke and the other great characters in this series…

5 stars. Great read, as always.

Encore?. I’d like to know who actually wrote this book. It doesn’t read like Nora Roberts’ style. Definitely not one of the better books in this series. Disappointing

Appreciation. Love that the author after all the books still actually tells a story worth reading. Thank you

Readeer extraordinaire

Loved it. Reader extraordinaire. Terrific as usual. Had me stumped.

Encore in death…. 2/10. The same book…only surface level. Like I’m more interested in the support characters kitchen remodel than the main characters same lines book after book. Stopped reading it so many times, legit kept going back to see if it picked up….it didn’t. Sex scenes .2/10

Encore in Death. I just finished this book and like all the In Death books it was difficult to put down. However, the plot of this book was a tangle of too many characters and too many twists. I also got lost in all those twists and turns and it seemed each page brought out another character. Who was a friend of Eliza’s and who was an enemy? Rarely do I look at the page number and rarely do I count the number of pages left to read. But I found myself counting the pages in this book so I know it wasn’t one of my most favorite novels of Eve Dallas and of course Roarke. There wasn’t enough Summerset and Roarke. Too many other characters to muddle up the plot. And what was the point of the plot? I really don’t care about how a play is written or who was in the play so there could have been less characters and less explanation of this play or any of the prior plays. I sat through les Miserables several years ago and that was 4 hours of my life I’ll never get back. I wanted to kill myself before it was finally over. This book brought it all back. So, no this was not a favorite J.D. Robb novel. But it was interesting and filled an evening. I could only rate it 4 stars because it had too many characters and talked of too many plays. Boysmumas

A good read. It was a good read.

Always good.. I’m always happy for a new JD Robb book. This was good, story was all about the case with very little of the side characters, but I still enjoyed it. I loved Roark’s gift.

Dud. Great if you want to fall a sleep. Had a bit of action at the end but wished I could have got my money back. Suprised it’s not in my to be finished.

Amazing story. Kudos to Nora for another adventure with the JD Robb series - you rock! I always pre-order your books and LOVE every one of them. Cannot thank you enough for the enjoyment of your stories as they make the heart very happy.
