Without a Trace
Without a Trace by Danielle Steel Book Summary
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel, a powerful story about fighting for a chance at happiness—whatever the cost.
Charles Vincent seems to have it all—a beautiful wife, two successful children, and a well-paying career. Yet happiness remains out of reach. He is trapped in a loveless marriage and his job is simply a paycheck. But his life changes forever one night as he drives along the Normandy coast, heading to their lavish château for the weekend. In one terrifying moment, Charles falls asleep at the wheel and veers off the road, plunging thirty feet down the face of a rocky cliff.
Miraculously, Charles survives. After gathering the courage to climb to safety, he starts to walk—bruised, bloody, and desperate for help. In the dark of night, he happens upon a cabin where he meets the kind and beautiful Aude Saint-Martin. They have an instant connection, and as she nurses him back to health, Charles begins to discover the passion he’s been missing for so many years.
In the aftermath of the crash, Charles has a startling realization: He doesn’t have to go back. He could simply choose to disappear, to walk away from his old life. When his car is discovered, he’ll be presumed dead, washed away at sea. If he stays with Aude, he has a chance at a fuller, happier life that he didn’t know was possible. It all seems too good to resist. But Aude has secrets of her own, and before long their pasts catch up to them, threatening everything they have fought to build.
What would happen if you were given a chance to walk away from everything in your life and start over with a blank slate, and you had a split second to decide? In Without a Trace, Danielle Steel tells an irresistible story of the risks two people are willing to take in exchange for a chance at the life they’ve always wanted.

Great story, sad and good ending! One of the best books she wrote.

It has been a long time since I have read a Danielle Steel novel, but I definitely don’t recall them being so poorly written. This book repeats the same characterizations so often that I questioned whether I was missing something. There is no character development, no plot depth and frankly, is the first book I can say, I wish I hadn’t bothered to read.

Wonderful book! Keeps you interested to getting to the next page and chapter but not wanting it to end! My favorite author of all time for way over 25 or more years,

Thin plot, terribly repetitious. Written for a middle school reader.

One her best stories, a lot of suspense and good dram and learning the true meaning of being happily in love, forever.

Excellent read and something that I think about once in awhile. To just walk away and start a new life. Life is hard and sometimes it would be nice to just walk away and be free.

I love Danielle Steel’s book, but I notice lately her book are very repetitive - short and expensive for what she is offering.

Horrible trite wasted my money

This was a strangely written book, felt very cold and impersonal. Very repetitious

The beginning of the book is very good. The story loses steam as you read on, with a lot of repetitive sentences. I felt like the last third was written very quickly without much thought or talent. I love Danielle Steel books, although they are getting shorter and shorter…..more like a longer “short story “.

Loved reading the enthralling and engrossing story about a man, Charles, who falls asleep while driving home to one of his wife's lavish parties, drops off a cliff, plunges into the the water, and slowly climbs the cliff. Charles stumbles down the road, up to a cabin, meets a beautiful, giving woman, Aude, and wants to disappear from his life without a trace from his money hungry wife, a job he hates, and even his two adult children he loves. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and another must read story from the phenomenal author, Danielle Steel.

I loved the storyline. Another great read by Danielle Steele. The story kept me interested throughout, lots of suspense with a happy outcome. Because of the author’s creative writing and interesting storyline’s, I always purchase her next book. Unfortunately though, there is so much content being repeated over and over throughout the story. It was already mentioned numerous times during the chapters prior and again a few chapters later. That was never the case with her books from years ago. It’s like getting half the book for what I paid for.
