All Good People Here

All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers Book Summary

In the propulsive debut novel from the host of the #1 true crime podcast Crime Junkie, a journalist uncovers her hometown’s dark secrets when she becomes obsessed with the unsolved murder of her childhood neighbor—and the disappearance of another girl twenty years later.
You can’t ever know for sure what happens behind closed doors.

Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

When Margot returns home to help care for her uncle after he is diagnosed with early-onset dementia, she feels like she’s walked into a time capsule. Wakarusa is exactly how she remembers—genial, stifled, secretive. Then news breaks about five-year-old Natalie Clark from the next town over, who’s gone missing under circumstances eerily similar to January’s. With all the old feelings rushing back, Margot vows to find Natalie and to solve January’s murder once and for all.

But the police, Natalie’s family, the townspeople—they all seem to be hiding something. And the deeper Margot digs into Natalie’s disappearance, the more resistance she encounters, and the colder January’s case feels. Could January’s killer still be out there? Is it the same person who took Natalie? And what will it cost to finally discover what truly happened that night twenty years ago?

Twisty, chilling, and intense, All Good People Here is a searing tale that asks: What are your neighbors capable of when they think no one is watching?

This was a god mix of the JonBenet Ramesey case and Sharp Objects. But that ending! Just left lots of unanswered questions for my mind lol.

Fantastic book!

Admittedly, I was skeptical before reading Flowers’ first novel—but I’m so glad I did. I couldn’t put this story down, and when I did, I couldn’t get it off my mind. A page turner so cleverly written, giving you everything you need without revealing its secrets too soon. Only gripe: the ending. I echo others complaints that the ending wasn’t fulfilling—it ended on too much of a cliffhanger. And I don’t believe this book needs a sequel, so you’re kind of left questioning if the authors were lost on how to provide a fulfilling ending and this was the easiest way to do so. Otherwise, I highly recommend giving this story your time as it will command your full attention.

Kept me hooked the entire time and was so well written!! Five stars!!

10/10 !!!! I’m a die hard crime junkies fan and couldn’t wait tooo read this book !!! Sooooo well written I loved it and I hope there’s a second book !!!

Interesting twists. A few details taken from real headlines, despite that part, I still liked it.

Enjoyed the book until the last couple of chapters — the ending was really disappointing & did not wrap up any “loose ends.” I’d still recommend the read but I think 3/5 stars is fair.

How disappointed was I with the completely unfulfilling and abrupt, premature ending? Very. I almost gave this novel two stars because of that. I don’t know what the author and the editors were thinking by concluding that ending was anything but frustrating. And all after a terrific, gripping read.

For her first novel I think it was great. Kept me interested the whole way through. There were a lot of twists to the book which I’m still debating if I enjoyed or not. I liked that I couldn’t fully predict what was going to happen, but also gave the book an all over the place feeling like the author wasn’t sure which road to take either. The ending left me wanting more. Will be disappointed if there isn’t a sequel or something!

I love the podcast and this book definitely didn’t disappoint. Shocking surprises throughout the book, highly recommend for all the crime junkies out there!

I cannot believe it really ended like that. Is there going to be a sequel?? Why would you write an amazing crime story only to end it like that??

About halfway through the book, I was convinced I knew how it ended. I was a little disappointed at the predictability, but kept reading. Turns out I was wrong about everything. Kept me guessing right up until the end. Amazing book. Hope Ashley Flowers keeps at it with the crime fiction!

This book was amazing with so many twists and turns. You think you have it figured out but quickly realize you don’t! Great read.

Loved this book, kept me intrigued from start to finish. Just hated for it to end!

Good read. Disappointed in the ending though.

This book has so many twists! I read it faster than I’ve read almost any other book! I have loved Ashley Flowers from Crime Junkie and couldn’t wait to purchase her book when I heard about it!

Amazing murder mystery! Kept me on my toes throughout the entire read!

Absolutely incredible. Read it in 24 hours. I usually pride myself in being able to guess the ending of books but this one definitely surprised me. The characters are all full fledged and developed. Plot is engaging. And the writing in extraordinary. 10/10 impressed excellent read.

Mediocre. Complete spin off of the JonBenét murder… and horrible ending that leaves the reader with so many questions.

I love this book the suspense was killer and you really don’t know how everything is going to wrap up in the end but I had the weirdest itch that told me who to suspect I recommend reading it or buying the audio book consume this book you won’t be able to put it down or pause it if you’re hearing the audio book

What an amazing novel Flowers came out with. Truly a crime junkies dream, and the plot twists keep you on your toes throughout the entire book!!! I cannot recommend something more!!

Great read, great story, great twists and turns with the most ridiculous and disappointing ending of any book I’ve ever read.

Ashley Flower wrote a compelling, engaging, believable novel that keeps you captivated from page one! I hope this is only the beginning of her as an author! She is amazing and this book was one of my favorite mystery novels!

This book was worth the wait! Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down! Just when you think you know who did it there’s a twist!! Would recommend for all crime junkies!!

I’ve followed Ash for years now. Crime Junkies is by far one of my all time favorite podcasts. This novel was undeniably fantastic. The twists will leave your head spinning. I just could not put the book down. I can not wait for more to come!!

ASHLEY!!! This book is everything. I knew I wanted to read it, because literally everything Ashley puts out is phenomenal, but this book blew me away. I was hanging on her every word of this master piece. I related so heavily to Margot’s character, as I am currently a full-time care giver for my own father living with dementia. The twists, the turns, the details in every nuance of this story. Perfection. 🥲🙌🏼

So impressed by this new author! You truly never know where the book is going and the ending is shocking. I read the whole thing over 24 hours. Can’t wait for her next one!

I couldn’t put this book down if I tried! It gave me “mental whiplash” from the amount of plot twists! Over the years I’ve read many mystery books that felt too far fetched to the point I couldn’t get into them. However, this story had me forgetting it was fiction! I smiled, cringed, laughed gasped, and ugly cried throughout the entire thing. I was completely captivated to the very last page and I’m so stressed about the ending (in a good way). I have so many questions and hope there will be more to the story because I am not ready for it to be over!

what a page turner!

I have waited so long for this book to be released! I got a notification from Apple at midnight saying I could read!! 😳 The problem was that I work at 6am….Oh well, I’ll sleep when I die! 🥳 Ashley never fails to amaze me with her story telling! ♥️ #beweirdberudestayalive

WOW! What a thrill ride from Ashley Flowers! Just when I thought I had “All Good People Here” figured out, she threw another twist into the mix! I absolutely did not see the ending coming & I love how it left the reader to draw their own conclusions. This novel has all the feels of a fictional JonBenet Ramsey case, centered around the disappearances of young girls from small Indian towns. Determined to find their killer, a struggling journalist embarks on the dangerous & difficult task of tracking down answers, all while being stalked, taking care of her ailing uncle & losing her job. Difficult to put down and exciting until the final pages! Make “All Good People Here” part of your TBR list!
