Javier Zamora’s adventure is a three-thousand-mile journey from his small town in El Salvador, through Guatemala and Mexico, and across the U.S. border. He will leave behind his beloved aunt and grandparents to reunite with a mother who left four years ago and a father he barely remembers. Traveling alone amid a group of strangers and a “coyote” hired to lead them to safety, Javier expects his trip to last two short weeks.

Heart wrenching, well written. I love how the author describes his experiences as he felt them as a young child. I can only imagine what this experience was like for him and so many other children that cross the border.

Magnifico. I loved this book! For many years I was a bilingual guidance counselor who worked with immigrant students from El Salvador and other Central American countries. I know at least second hand what people went through just to get to the US. What I would have wanted was a glossary or a little dictionary so the reader could consult for all of the slang Spanish used in the book. Although I speak Spanish, there were many words that I wish I had a better meaning. I think Javier’s story would make a great motion picture. I hope someone will try a write a screenplay for this book!

Javier Zamora (born 1990) is a Salvadoran poet and activist. Early life Zamora was born in San Luis La Herradura, El Salvador and immigrated to the United States at the age of nine, joining his parents in California. Education He earned a BA at the University of California, Berkeley and an MFA at New York University and was a 2016–2018 Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University. Career Zamora's chapbook Nueve Años Inmigrantes/Nine Immigrant Years won the 2011 Organic Weapon Arts Contest, and his first poetry collection, Unaccompanied, was published in 2017 by Copper Canyon Press.
