Six summers to fall in love. One moment to fall apart. A weekend to get it right.

They say you can never go home again, and for Persephone Fraser, ever since she made the biggest mistake of her life a decade ago, that has felt too true. Instead of glittering summers on the lakeshore of her childhood, she spends them in a stylish apartment in the city, going out with friends, and keeping everyone a safe distance from her heart.

Until she receives the call that sends her racing back to Barry’s Bay and into the orbit of Sam Florek—the man she never thought she’d have to live without.

For six summers, through hazy afternoons on the water and warm summer nights working in his family’s restaurant and curling up together with books—medical textbooks for him and work-in-progress horror short stories for her—Percy and Sam had been inseparable. Eventually that friendship turned into something breathtakingly more, before it fell spectacularly apart.

When Percy returns to the lake for Sam’s mother’s funeral, their connection is as undeniable as it had always been. But until Percy can confront the decisions she made and the years she’s spent punishing herself for them, they’ll never know whether their love might be bigger than the biggest mistakes of their past.

Told over the course of six years and one weekend, Every Summer After is a big, sweeping nostalgic story of love and the people and choices that mark us forever.

Beautiful story.

I couldn’t put it down after starting it, forcing myself to put it down made me sad! The love story that still continued gives me hope in my own love story! I can’t believe this was her first book and hope she continues writing!! I need more of Percy and Sam!

This book is a perfect read for the summer.

This book lives rent free in my mind. It’s sooo good! All the feels, all the drama, definitely one of my faves.

Good story. Well written. I will definitely read this author again.

AMAZING - must read!!

I love this book. It’s incredibly well written with real like situations/feelings. I could completely see, feel and understand each character. There are moments that I cried, felt frustrated and totally giddy. I could clearly visualize the setting and their movements as well as the scenery. Very easy to read. I loved it!

Fun little read. 1st book by author…

I just recently got back into reading & this book made me so glad I did. This book was absolutely incredible. The story, the characters, the emotions. I actually delayed reading the last 80 pages or so because I didn’t want it to end. Thank you, Carley, for bring this store to life. 10/10 would recommend!!

I wish I could read it over like it was the first time. Such a great story

I had a hard time staying interested during the flashbacks. I really wanted to love this book, unfortunately it wasn’t for me.

Ugh. I loved every bit of this. I am stunned to find out that this is the author’s first book; I look forward to reading more from her hopefully!! If you’re looking for a great summer read filled with nostalgia, love and just a feel good, real story; this is for you.

I felt like I knew Sam, Percy and Charlie. All so relatable. The feelings and protective friendship Sam and Percy had. Percy’s teenage thoughts are so relatable. Sam comfort. It all felt so real. I loved it.

Easy summer read with a great story and likable characters.

I loved every page of this book and didn’t want it to end. Best book of the summer, hands down.

Made me love reading again and love romance again! Super relatable characters and struggles of teenage and adult life. Allowed me to be a teen again and the adult I am now all in one!! Thank you for writing this!!!

I loved every part of this book. There were parts that I couldn’t read fast enough. I hope you write more!!

I haven’t been this into a book in about 6 years now and let me tell you I felt like a teenage girl reading a book a day in high school ! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! What a wonderful Debut for her!

This perfect is so good. Read it in like 24 hrs! I highly recommend!

Soooo I am sucker for romance. With that being said this hit the spot nail on by providing a little mix of PG/R-rated scenes with a mix of fun, and making me reminisce the summer days when I was younger. I would definitely recommend this book!

Sophomoric. Good for 20 something’s. Won’t engage mature readers at all. I can’t fathom the high review marks other than their age was blatant.

I absolutely loved this book! I had a hard time putting it down. The perfect summer read that I was looking for!

My favorite style of writing. Witty, down-to-earth, emotional… Would actually love a sequel about Charlie. I found myself growing so curious about his character along the way. Glad to have been transported into this wonderful, word world for a few hours!

Perfect summer read. Beautifully written.

Such a feel-good story with so many interesting twists and turns. Loved every bit of this read.

Brings me back with nostalgia while still keeping it real and raw

Loved this book and didn’t want to put it down!

A book that brought me back to high school, some flashbacks I caught myself skimming over but beautiful story line.

Devoured it in a 10 hour car ride after spending a week at the lake. Loved every character, loved the flip between past and present. Loved the rustic summer lake vibes. Loved it all!

Go read it. Like now. That’s the review. 😂 The writing is so well done. The story builds perfectly to me. You root for our main characters right out of the gate, you know they belong together. THEY know they belong together. This book was oozing with nostalgia to me. I loved every second. ❤️

I read this super fast because it was such a cute book. Kept me wanting to read. Solid 4.5 star!!!

My heart is full. Loved loved loved this book! Perfect summer read and just what my heart needed. Being a lake girl, it was just perfect for me. I could see the lake, hear the water splashes and the boat, and feel the sun against my skin. Wonderful job…I hope you have more books in the works.

I really enjoyed these characters and their story. It’s very well written and hard to put down. I felt the emotions the entire read. Wish the epilogue was a little longer but that’s not going to reduce my rating. This is a wonderfully sad love story.

Fantastic characters and a well written story!

Waiting for your next book! This was an awesome read!!!!

The YA-ish version of The Paper Palace. I loved it.

Loved this book so much, I felt all the emotions. Finished it in less than 2 days. Such a great summer read.

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune is an emotional and beautifully written coming-of-age story that I simply loved. The story is a dual timeline that covers six years in the past and one weekend in the present. The summer after Persephone Fraser (Percy) turns 13, her parents buy a cottage on a lake in a rural town to spend the summers and holidays. Percy discovers the boys next door to the cottage, Sam aged 13, and his older brother, Charlie, 15. Sam and Percy form a bond that first summer, and as time goes by, the bond of friendship turns into more. Now Percy is 30 years old and working in Toronto as a senior editor for a popular decor magazine. She recently broke up with her corporate lawyer boyfriend of seven months, the longest relationship she’s had in a while. The longest relationship since Sam. She gets a call from Charlie, telling her that his mother, Sue has passed away, and the funeral will be this weekend. Percy hasn’t been back to the lake since she destroyed her relationship with Sam, twelve years ago. She’s not sure she can handle seeing Sam again, but she knows she must go to Sue’s funeral. First love is such a powerful emotion, and in Every Summer After, we get a wonderful story about Percy and Sam and how they go from awkward friends to lovers over the course of six summers. I enjoyed their easy friendship and their mutual love of horror stories and swimming at the lake, and how this friendship eventually developed into a powerful love. Their love, being first love was full of that passion and uncertainty that young lovers seem to possess wherever they live. Their breakup was so realistic that I felt their heartache as I was reading the pages, and just couldn’t wait to see if they would figure out their issues and forgive each other. I highly recommend Every Summer After by Carley Fortune to anyone who loves a great romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I absolutely loved it. I feel like this just became a future comfort read.

I have read this book three times. Three times. I can’t seem to give it up or put it down. There is nothing romanticized like that of childhood best friends turned lovers turned angsty adults trying to find their way through their messes. The characters are authentic and lovable. The story keeps you on your toes and warms your heart. Carley keeps you wanting more and more. Bravo.

I could not put this down. I did not enjoy one part at the end though. This story pulls at your heart and busts it wide open

Heartfelt story!
