Downton Abbey crossed with Murder, She Wrote...set in a Yorkshire village!

Evelyn Christie has resigned herself to another long, boring weekend at Hessleham Hall, the home of her husband, Tommy's, family. However, it turns out to be anything but dull when his uncle, the Earl of Northmoor, is shockingly murdered!

Evelyn must use all of her sleuthing knowledge, gained whilst she was a member of the Police force during the war, to find out who the murderer is before the bungling local police force decide the Earl was bumped off so Tommy could inherit his title.

If you enjoy the glamour of bygone eras like 1920s Downton Abbey and gentle, cozy mysteries set in the English countryside then you will love this new series.

I will be doing the next few. We can do a little things

Ed-researcher22

A bit clumsy. The setting is charming (although clearly directly derived from Downton Abby) but the plot is clumsy and it’s not the most satisfying mystery.

Squidgymom

If you love Agatha Christie, you will love this!. I absolutely love a good murder mystery, especially when I don’t figure out who the murderer is right away. This one kept me guessing until the end. I love Tommy and Evelyn!

Valady26

Murder at the Manor. Absolutely LOVED this book!! Fabulous, fantastic, exquisite! It was so captivating I was at chapter 20 without noticing time had passed! Excellent writing. The sly wit, the banter, the tension. Beautiful character development.

Ashketchumallll

I really enjoyed this book. This book definitely exceeded my expectations! Had me guessing different people the whole time! Very well written book and the mystery is very well written.

Murder in the Manor. Enjoyable read.

Lavone116

A delightful read!. Well put together and I kept grinning at the similarities to Downton Abbey only with murder. The characters and story writing is very well done.

Mama SSSS

A fun read. A likable duo, amateur sleuths, the English countryside, and a whodunnit mystery.

All nanes hsve been taken.

Self explanatory.. Easy, light reading. A quick read. Fun characters.

Majograrod

Quick fun read!. This was a fun read ! I only wish it didn’t jump around so quickly.

Cat/beagle mix Mom

Typical Cozy Mystery. This is like many other books of its type. It’s mildly entertaining, with a nice married couple as our sleuths. Most of the characters are slightly drawn types. The ending is rather a muddle, but it’s satisfactory that all of the nasty people are either dead or leaving the village.

Bookmonster1

A Good book. I couldn’t put down this book. I really liked it and couldn’t figure out the murderer

Chere G

Intriguing Murder Mystery!. I enjoyed this story. The characters all play their parts well, especially Evelyn and Tommy, who end up becoming the new lord and lady of the manor. It was an entertaining read that kept me turning pages.

Moses248

Milder at the manor. It kept my interest throughout. Was never quite sure who was guilty. A true cozy mystery.

Adorablered

Murder at the Manor. I really like the characters in this book. The main characters, Evelyn and Tommy were not the usual cardboard personalities in manor based murder mysteries. This lovely couple were authentic personalities with depth of character and humanity. I was intrigued throughout the book and didn’t really guess the killer’s name until the end. Good characterization, interesting and surprising stories throughout. I definitely want to read more from this author.

DJW8417

Murder at the manor. Very enjoyable. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Wonderful Story. This book brings introduction and appreciation to the presented characters. It is another “time to read to completion” in a short and logical time. Like many shorter stories, there is nothing here to give doubt to the time it will take to read to the end. Although the date timeframe in which the stories are presented, they are no considerations of an attended shorter time.

Bridbil

Fun!. A great read with lovable characters

Downton Abbey meets Miss Marple. Think Downton Abbey, but with way less character development, intrigue surrounding the employees or social commentary, mixed with a surface-level draft of a Miss Marple investigation. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing to write home about. And the murder investigation itself happens so quickly that the “clues” assembled still feel insufficient once the investigation is closed. The characters are a bit paper-thin, but they’re not all bad. Since this is part of a series, I assume the previous entries (and following) provide more information on our lead characters. Otherwise, this is a nice afternoon read if you’re looking for something light and not too engaging.

Finer life

Murder. Evelyn and Tommy have been invited to his uncle’s house for a shooting party. The human bodies are piling up faster than the pheasants. A truly twisted tale of murder and a great delight to read.

Just romantic

Not into it. I hadn’t a smidgen of understanding what was going on There are too many characters to keep track of Who got murdered? And who murdered them? There was absolutely no conclusion and nothing led up to the (non existent) murder It was also much too short 50 pages??!?? Not humorous Or romantic It wasn’t thrilling And had absolutely zero plot
