INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

In this “magical trip worth taking” (Associated Press), the New York Times bestselling author of In Five Years returns with a powerful novel about the transformational love between mothers and daughters set on the breathtaking Amalfi Coast.

When Katy’s mother dies, she is left reeling. Carol wasn’t just Katy’s mom, but her best friend and first phone call. She had all the answers and now, when Katy needs her the most, she is gone. To make matters worse, their planned mother-daughter trip of a lifetime looms: to Positano, the magical town where Carol spent the summer right before she met Katy’s father. Katy has been waiting years for Carol to take her, and now she is faced with embarking on the adventure alone.

But as soon as she steps foot on the Amalfi Coast, Katy begins to feel her mother’s spirit. Buoyed by the stunning waters, beautiful cliffsides, delightful residents, and, of course, delectable food, Katy feels herself coming back to life.

And then Carol appears—in the flesh, healthy, sun-tanned, and thirty years old. Katy doesn’t understand what is happening, or how—all she can focus on is that she has somehow, impossibly, gotten her mother back. Over the course of one Italian summer, Katy gets to know Carol, not as her mother, but as the young woman before her. She is not exactly who Katy imagined she might be, however, and soon Katy must reconcile the mother who knew everything with the young woman who does not yet have a clue.

“Rebecca Serle is known for her powerful stories that tug at the heartstrings—and her latest is just as unforgettable” (Woman’s World) as it effortlessly shows us how to move on after loss, and how the people we love never truly leave us.

A great escape. Great escape. Perfect-read in one sitting-kind of tale. Magical and transportive.

Good reading. Good story. Good characters. Enjoyed it!

Love love love. Loved this book so much! I read this a few weeks ago and cannot stop dreaming about this trip. I need to remake it!

Why first person present?. Not fond of this style. It seems to be pervading all writing. When I write a letter to a friend, I use past tense. Books about past occurrences should be the same.

Thoroughly enjoyed. Loved this book. Easy, enjoyable read that made me laugh and cry. I’ve gotten two people to read after me and they both felt the same.

A Beach Read. Katy’s mother, Carol, was everything to her, so she when passes away from cancer, her life comes crashing down. It makes Katy rethink her own marriage on what she wants in life. Katy and Carol were supposed to take a trip to Italy when she recovered from her Cancer, which never happened. So Katy decides to take the trip on her own, which her husband agrees. He feels it will be a trip to help her grieve. Katy doesn’t expect to run into a younger version of her mother in Italy. This brings a little confusion to Katy on why this can be? She hangs out with her and even dines with her. Will this this trip bring clarity to her life that she desperately needs? A unique and entertaining story that will keep you turning the pages to find out Katy’s fate! I loved the ending! I felt that even though this story was a bit unrealistic, it was still an entertaining book that takes you to the Amalfi coast. I could see this book made into a mini-series! This would make a perfect beach read!

Beautiful, captivating writing. This is a beautifully written book. I finished it in just a few days and plan to reread it soon. The writing is so wonderfully descriptive I felt like I was in Positano seeing the views and eating the amazing food. The story felt quite healing for those that are familiar with losing someone close. It was overall a very captivating book and I’d highly recommend.

FANTASTIC BOOK. This book took me to Positano, Italy while sitting on my couch. Literally the best book I’ve read in a very long time. My advice: Buy his book!

Cut wood

It’s ok. Just ok. Not much of a story and stilted dialogue. But somewhat interesting.

A quick, magical read. I burned through this one! A beautiful setting, a little romance, and a touching mother/daughter story. Highly recommend!

AuntJannie

Not a fan of time travel fantasy, BUT…. I loved this book! The complexities of the mother/daughter relationship, especially what they don’t know about each other, despite being very close, are so well done.

Lomwilliams

Takes you to Italy. 3.5 stars. I did feel like I was in Italy.

Wonderful!. At first I felt that it a bit slow in the beginning, but it bloomed into a beautifully written story of Katy’s life and how the past and the present shaped it. Read it in two days and will read it again. Rebecca Serle is truly a gifted writer.

Love it. I really enjoyed reading this book. It felt pretty repetitive until about the halfway point of the book though. After that halfway point, the book got really good and I enjoyed it! I recommend for sure 🥰

Bbsroo

Beyond my expectations. Surprising and not predictable … there’s a sweetness and a truthfulness in the packaging of the story that leaves you feeling no longer constipated with emotions. Good read.

Phenomenal Read. One Italian Summer was a book I needed to read a few chapters at a time because, as someone who has also lost her mother, it was difficult reading at times. I echoed Katy’s grief and I was also envious that she was able to meet her mother again while on her trip to Italy. There were a few twists that surprised me, and I overall loved seeing Katy get to know a different side to her mother and learn a little more about her. I loved seeing Katy rediscover herself a bit here as well. I think Rebecca nailed the feelings one goes through after losing a parent. Especially a woman losing her mother. We’re left feeling lost and wondering how do we live without the person who gave us life and taught us everything. Except how to live without them. Between this and In Five Years, Rebecca has solidified herself as a must read author for me
