Disappointing. I’m really not sure where to begin with this review. I’ve read everyone of Lisa Gardner’s books over the last 20 years and have anxiously looking forward to each new release. This is the second in the Frankie Elkin series. I think where I am most challenged by these two books is this character, to me, is unsympathetic and completely uninteresting. We are reminded REPEATEDLY she had a very tough childhood, an alcoholic father, is a recovering alcoholic for the last 10 years, has very few interpersonal relationships….. I read this entire book in one evening as I found myself doing something I’ve never done with a Lisa Gardner book and that is skimming pages. It almost seemed like one of those books where it was necessary to add more pages. There were four pages devoted entirely to creating a pulley system?! The pro I will give, there was an excellent twist which for me, was the only redeeming factor in this book. Based on the last couple of sentences it sounds like there will be another book in the series. Probably for the first time in 20+ years it will not be a Lisa Gardner book I will order.

Lisa Gardner never disappoints. The book is riveting…a real page turner. I was anxious to read the next chapter but didn’t want the book to come to the end. Very suspenseful. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Gabby Petito meets fantastical thinking …. Great concept but way too many times the need to suspend my disbelief. Too bad because it was a great concept.

One Step Too Far. This was a great book with a surprise ending! There were a few red herrings as the author kept up the suspense and misdirections. The last 150 pages were too drawn out, so I skipped to the end.

Great book!. I never could have guessed who the villain was.

One Step Too Far.. A interesting and unique thriller and murder mystery. It was very engaging and unique. The plot requires some suspension of disbelief but is very satisfying.

One Step Too Far 3 Stars. This book was a little too long in some parts. I did read the complete story the ending was quite surprising. This was far from my favorite Lisa Gardner novel.

Got lost in the story. Love this book, Frankie is an amazing character surrounded by more amazing character! Lisa Gardner’s unique style of writing had me hooked in this book and I cannot wait for the third installment!

Skimmed it. Last 100 pages were skimmed just to get through it. Found the premise unbelievable - complete stranger joins a mountain search party. I liked Frankie’s backstory more than the actual story.

Frankie reels me in again. I’ve loved Lisa Gardner books for years and was initially disappointed to not see a DD Warren book for the last 2 years - but Frankie Elkin has officially won me over. This story and its characters kept me engaged the whole time and I tore through the book in 2 sittings (with little sleep but worth it). Enjoyed it so much - until the next one!

Good read. The story line was slow at first and hard to take. When I read into the story, more twists and tangles popped into the plot. This was really a surprise ending to me.

Another amazing read.. Please please please write another book with this character Frankie Elkin. One of the best characters in a novel that I have ever read, and I have real A LOT of books with recurring characters. Thank you Lisa Gardner.

Great read. Truly an exciting book to read it’s my first time with this author and I enjoyed the book.

Fantastic Outdoor mystery. This book grabbed me and kept me interested until the very end! Lisa has a great knowledge for outdoors and paints an amazing picture with her words. One Step Too Far has an incredible amount of twists and turns that kept me hooked. Definitely not the predicable ending I’m used to with “mystery novels.”

Very intense. I didn’t know if I liked or hated this book as I was reading it but living by the mountains I understand how terrifying it can be if you are lost or meet up with the wrong person while hiking or camping in the middle of nowhere, it’s really a place where you just can’t call for help. Lisa is a great author & had me emotionally hooked the entire ride.

I was on the edge of the sofa. I couldn’t put it down so exciting the thrill, I was on the edge of the sofa and it was midnight I had to finish the book I say wow, I wish they would make a movie out of this book it would be an original. none of those repeats. Lisa Gardner you’re fantastic a escape to my boring daily routine.
