From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone, second-chance story of forbidden love…

It’s natural to want the one you can’t have. And for as long as I could remember, I’d secretly wanted my brother’s best friend, Jace.
He was six years older and always treated me like the sister he never had.
Fast forward a decade.
We were all in our twenties now. Jace had moved in with my brother, Nathan, and me to help us make ends meet after our parents died.
It was just the three of us—an odd family dynamic.
Living under our roof, Jace was as bossy and protective as ever.
But he certainly didn’t look at me like a sister anymore. That was what made things so complicated.
I was pretty much hot and bothered twenty-four-seven.
And he was torn.
The signs were subtle, at first. Like on movie night, I’d casually rest my leg against his, and he wouldn’t exactly shift away.
Still, I assumed he would never…go there.
Nathan would kill us.
The knowledge of that wasn’t enough to stop the inevitable, though.
Eventually our slow burn exploded.
But more than the physical attraction, we’d developed a strong connection.
We just couldn’t get caught, right?
That sounded simple.
Until it wasn’t.
This is a story of forbidden love, broken trust, and an unexpected second chance.

A lot of character depth, but little to fantasize about. I read romance for the emotional ups and downs, the drama, and the hut scenes ;). This book explored a lot of the psychology behind why the characters were making the decisions they were, and that was novel. But after a while it just felt boring. There were a lot of things that could’ve been cut out to make the piecing of the book more engaging. I will give the author all the credit for truly keeping it a surprise how the two characters would end up together.

Forbidden Romance ❤️. Wow!! This book reeled me in from the start!! What an opening!! I couldn’t put it down!! I had to immediately find out what the drama was between Farrah and Jace. It takes us back in time to when Farrah has a crush on Jace who is her older brother, Nathan’s best friend. Jace is 6 years older than Farrah so he always thought that her crush on him was cute. Fast forward a decade after a number of life changing events, Jace is back in town living with Nathan and Farrah to help them make ends meet. Jace quickly realizes Farrah is very much a woman now and the sparks are flying high! He knows he can’t let it go anywhere though because of Nathan. Eventually though the temptation is too strong!! What would it hurt? They just have to play it safe and not get caught! Yeah, right! Easier said than done! This book was such an emotional ride!! So get ready for the roller coaster!! I loved every minute of it!! Such a sweet ending!! 5+ stars for me!!❤️

A rollercoaster ride of emotions!. Penelope certainly takes readers on a tumultuous journey with Farrah and Jace. The older brother's best friend trope is usually a pretty angst filled story and this one is no exception. Jace and Farrah have known each other for most of their lives, and Farrah has been in love with Jace since she was a young girl. Jace knew she had a crush on him when they were younger, but he just thought it was cute. He had no clue that once Farrah was grown up, his feelings for her would change in such a dramatic way. Penelope really knows how to do unrequited love. Poor Farrah! And Jace was definitely the brooding older man who really had no clue how to handle his emotions. Not only are these two trying to navigate forbidden territory, they both are still dealing with the tragedy of Farrah and her brother Nathan losing their parents years ago. Jace was there when it happened, and his survivor's guilt is huge. Get ready to experience a rollercoaster ride of emotions with this book! I was dying to see if Farrah and Jace would ever be able to figure out a way to be together. Can they both heal from their pasts? Can they overcome all the obstacles keeping them apart? Read the book and find out!

Emotional forbidden romance. The Crush is a very emotional forbidden romance. It started as a teen crush, but Farrah has never stopped loving older brother Nathan’s best friend Jace. “... you don’t see me as mature, because when you left for college, I was twelve. That’s the person you remember.” I sighed. “I’m not twelve anymore.” When Jace moved back into town and into the house with Nathan and Farrah their feelings boil over and get out of hand. This book is a moving rollercoaster ride of emotional ups and downs, with twists and turns. It is all emotion, passion and swoon that tugged at my heartstrings and kept me invested in the story. -4 Stars-

Couldn’t Put It Down. From start to finish, I had a hard time putting this book down. It took me maybe 10 hours (interrupted) to read the entire book in a 24 hour period. The story of Farrah and Jace is just too sweet. Requited forbidden love, who wouldn’t be submerged in the story. Absolutely loved it.

The Crush. The story was good, but too much sex talk. I do enjoy most of your books. Just not my favorite.

Endearing, forbidden love story. I loved Farrah and Jace’s angsty relationship. Farrah is the younger sister of Jace’s best friend. The three have a traumatic experience that will bond them together forever. However, Farrah’s brother thinks he knows the true Jace and wants better for his sister. Feelings and emotions run high, and they are forced to discover their deepest fears and anxieties. This is a remarkable tale of overcoming obstacles and learning what family really is. Perfect second chance love story!

Heart breaking and emotional. THE CRUSH by Penelope Ward is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic, romance story line focusing on Jace Muldoon, and Farrah Spade. Told from dual first person perspectives (Jace and Farrah), following two time-lines, THE CRUSH focuses on the best friend’s little sister relationship between Jace Muldoon and Farrah Spade. Farrah Spade has crushed on her brother Nathan’s best friend all of her life but their six year age difference meant Jace considered Farrah like the little sister he never had. Not wanting to destroy his friendship with Nathan, Jace refused to see Farrah as anything other than the girl she used to be but at twenty-seven years old Jace could no longer contain the feelings he had for his best friend’s twenty-one year old sister.Life had been cruel to the Spade siblings, and in this Nathan was over protective of our story line heroine but when Jace and Farrah’s friendship crossed the line into something more, Nathan saw red, and Jace ran, breaking our heroine’s heart in the process. Fast forward three years, and Jace has returned to home, never forgetting about the woman he would always love. As Farrah struggles with Jace’s reappearance after three years away, Jace hopes for forgiveness from Nathan, and the woman he loves. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jace and Farrah, and the fall-out when their relationship is discovered, and Jace must face years of guilt, and reality of what was and what will never be. Jace Muldoon had never considered Farrah anything but his best friend’s little sister until our heroine blossomed into a beautiful young woman who life was about to spiral out of control.Trying desperately to keep his distance, Jace is about to fail when he realizes that Farrah wants something more than a temporary romance. Farrah Spade’s heart was destroyed the day Jace Muldoon walked out of her life but to add insult to injury Farrah was hurt by her brother’s reaction and behavior, leaving a hardened heart in the wake of betrayal and loss. Having moved on from the past, Farrah will quickly discover that three years apart did nothing to stop the desire and emotional upheaval of years before. The relationship between Farrah and Jace is a best friend’s little sister, second chance romance wherein sins from the past resurface to create a heart breaking realization. Unable to forgive himself Jace runs from the only two friends he has ever loved, and in doing so, destroys a friendship, and his hopes for a future with the woman he loves. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and test. We are introduced to Farrah’s brother Nathan Spade, and her best friend Kellianne; Jace’s parents, as well as several relationship potentials coming in and out of the trio’s lives. THE CRUSH is a story of family and friendships, relationships and love; of betrayal and accusations; acceptance and forgiveness. The premise is heart breaking and emotional; the romance is fated, sensitive and moving; the characters are animated, broken, and edgy.

Great read!. Wow! An intense, emotional rollercoaster of feelings as we go through the journey of Farrah and Jace! It’s definitely a slow burn read with amazing chemistry and a little danger in getting caught! Will take you on a crazy ride with this brothers best friend love story!

Marina Skinner

Emotional journey of love, friendships and life!. The Crush is an emotional journey of love, friendships and life! I found it a bit sad most of the time and just felt like something was missing to be quite honest. This was a brothers best friend romance with some heartfelt moments between the characters and their struggles after certain difficult moments in their lives. When Jace returns home and lives with her and her brother, Farrah isnt quite sure how to keep her feelings to herself. Yes, some years had passed without word, but living in close proximity could be a recipe for disaster? How do these two cope? There is drama, secrets, some heart wrenching moments and distrust. Will these friendships stand the test? A good story!

Entertaining. I fear I have yet another new book boyfriend; I fell hard for Jace in this friends to lovers story in this latest release from Penelope Ward. Jace has been best friends with Nathan for years and always seen Farrah more like a sister. The attraction that slowly builds between Jace and Farrah is set to ignite. Farrah has wanted him for years but Jace has never seen her as anything but Nathan’s sister. It appears that Jace is beginning to notice that Farrah has grown up and the repercussions will affect more than just themselves. Not only is their attraction heating up, but these two have a deep connection, one that is hard to break and believe me , it will be tested. This is a story of love, friendship and second chances. The Crush was at times an emotional roller coast of a read and the journey that they took was rocky, with some angst and emotional baggage that needed to be dealt with, but it was worth it in the end. Another well written and strong story from Ms.Ward which will draw out the emotions.
