From USA TODAY bestselling author of Vampire Girl, Karpov Kinrade brings a new twist to vampire and angel lore. A Nephilim and Knights Academy series full of romance and mystery. Perfect for fans of Throne of Glass and Angelfall.

You think you know what is right and what is wrong? Then tell me if this man should die. He is my enemy. He is to be my end.

He is the one I love.

I have spent my life in shades of grey. I have died and returned to a world of color. I have fought an Angel and lived. I have kissed the Prince of Ravens. I have faced the Lord of Night and made him kneel. I was accepted into the Four Orders, and I created the fifth. I freed the Shadow of Rome. I sat upon the Twilight Throne.

The man asks for my surrender. He asks for peace. He is too late. The girl he knew is gone, and death is in her place. I am Nightfall, and this is my story. You think you know it?

Think again.

Had it been typo free I would’ve given it 5 stars... It’s great storytelling at its finest. I was invested in the characters and fully immersed in their worlds. Although the some characters were not technically human, they were relatable. Then again pain has a way of making kindred spirits out of strangers. Good read, would recommend!!

Nice read!. Great story! Love the characters and really good development. So easy to love them all and be sad and emotion. You can feel the anger and also the love. Ready to read the next one!

Promising start with a sudden veer that wasn’t for me. This book started out very interesting to me, with (as many previous reviewers say) the book convincingly written as from the perspective of a child and a teen. For me a sudden veer ruined the book and after that I found myself bothered by more and more other things about the writing. More details follow *with light spoilers*: For me the sudden veer that I found completely implausible was how Scarlett suddenly became able to see colors and once she could, was suddenly able to identify every color she saw, down to specific hues such as “oak” and “sapphire.” I found this was way beyond my ability to suspend disbelief and further, that the authors seemed to never have considered what a disability like colorblindness would actually be like for the disabled person. At first I thought that maybe there would be something about the vision test taken just before this that would explain what had happened, but in the end all the reader learned was that Scarlett had passed the test despite still having been colorblind at the time, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and made me even more annoyed. Plus her AI had only been depicted describing basic colors such as yellow and blue, so that also wasn’t an explanation. After this I started noticing other things that bothered me about the writing, like Scarlett referencing things she only learned about a page or two later (I suspect these were caused by editing errors - moving the text around to edit without realizing they had messed up the order). Plus I found the way the book didn’t reveal until a good way through that there were “serfs” in this world and the implication through lack of mentioning it that everyone else was okay with that, even the characters who generally espoused equality, really bothersome as well. I get that this is a really popular book and I was hoping to enjoy this book and this series, but in the end the completely unrealistic way it depicted Scarlett’s sudden ability to identify colors meant that it wasn’t for me.

Loved it!. I loved this book! Cannot wait for the next one. I will be watching out for new things from this writing duo beyond this series as well. The above was when I read the book prior to the extension the authors did. I couldn't imagine how they might do it (I'm no writer), but I was very, very pleased with how it turned out. Though I loved the story the first time around because of the uniqueness of it (in my reading experience anyway), the extension provides so much more depth to the characters and story line. I find that I enjoy books that have a bit of real world grit to them as opposed to everything being sunshine and rainbows all the time where nothing bad ever really happens. I loved every bit of what was added and changed, and I'm even that much more excited about following the series than I was already. I can say even though I was a fan originally, there were a few things that I felt were a little unclear/confusing, and the extension took care of that as well. Can't wait for Daughter of Strife!! Although a re-read of House of Ravens is in order first along with my first pass at Night of Nyx and Song of Kai!

Love it. I love this book! I love how Scarlet is a such a strong character and the way she handled each trial. Even when she was colorblind she was truly the only one that see the world in color, while those around her see only it only in black in white. She has such heart and depth. My heart-broke for her having to do what she did with Brooke. And that Brooke became that way because she felt like a shadow:( It's crazy to know that 2 different ppl wrote this, they didn't different from one another, it was flawless. As a husband and wife duo they do wonderfully.

🤔. A good read

Even better reading it a second time. This is one of my favorite series and I usually won’t pick favorites because I love books. This first book in the series is about a poor, kind of regular girl growing up in what seems to be almost a post apocalyptic world. There were several wars that remade society and combining a poor society, full of bigotry and the Templar Knights. Only in this story there are several types of nights. The society is formed around their hate of Zeniths, which are people whose ancestors reproduced with angels and they have special powers. Instead of training these people and thinking of them as special they are considered worse than second rate citizens. Scarlett , the main character, starts off the story as a young child and she grows up throughout the book. Scarlet is brilliant but the authors have mastered showing her age, innocence and growth at different stages of her life. Scarlet is not like the others in the book, she wants to be zenith and makes friends with zenith children. This book really sets the stage for the later books. It shows how she grows as a person, learns, thinks and the relationships that shape her into the great person she becomes. As a child Scarlett has a unique way of thinking that other kids usually don’t follow yet her age still shows through the writing. The character building is great and very complete. Her parents are loving, great parents who teach her things that normal kids don’t get to learn but it is obvious there is a little more going on in adult land than little scarlet knows. I have a knack for figuring out a book, movie or premise of something within the first few chapters of 15 minutes. Even knowing what happens later, I was not able to predict what these secrets were her parents had and all of the multiple storylines that come out later. This book is brilliantly written and as you read more of the books you learn more about what was happening as Scarlett was a child. Scarlett is a brave, tough and stubborn main character. All the characters, such as Scarlett, her friends, mentor and family are likable characters and very well developed. There are multiple storylines upon multiple storylines that are all there for a reason and eventually come together. But not all in this book. I have never seen another author keep up with so many secrets and different things happening at the same time as in this series. I love that you never know who is doing what , who you should trust and what people’s true motivations for anything are. I have been waiting a long time for the 3rd book, I believe, to come out, but rereading this book I can see how intricate the process has writing has to be and how it would take a lot of time and effort to come up with this great of a world/characters/storyline and keep everything and everyone straight. A lot of authors forget someone’s name in a sequel, these characters may have several names or lives and they are all kept straight which is amazing. I’m trying not to skip ahead as I couldn’t stop reading long enough to write a review, I read 2 of the short stories and the second book before I could take a break and write this. The books are that good. I recommend not skipping the novellas as the have great information in them to help you better understand what is happening in the books. They are important. I hate novellas usually and usually skip them. These are necessary. I’m excited about the new book coming out this year and am rereading the series. Even knowing what happens it is still exciting and there was a ton of stuff i didn’t remember from the first time so it is just as good if not better the second time. I don’t want to give anything away or I’d give a more detailed review. I haven’t read a Karpov-kinrade book I didn’t like, yet, but this series is my favorite of theirs and prob my favorite series ever. I would say I wish their were more books but the books are so long and detailed it took me almost a week to read the first book and I usually read a book in 1-3 days. I’m very glad I was able to reread this book and am very happy they made it free for all of us for a few days so that I can own it! Thank you to Karpov-Konrad for all your hard work and great minds that came up with this world that is full of secrets and subterfuge.

Captivating. I never get tired of this series. I'm doing a re-read in preparation for the next book in the series releasing next month. I'm doing my best to draw it out, but I can't help but devour these books. The world building and character development is phenomenal. The action scenes are great, and not over-detailed to the point where I got bored (which I often do if they are drawn-out and detailed fighting). And of course, this series has the classic Karpov Kinrade plot twists that make their books so gripping and leave you guessing in the best way!
