Great Read. The author has penned a novel with great pace and fun. Characters come in and out of the story focused around the protagonist. Real loss and intrigue Enough action to keep everyone interested. I can’t wait to read the next one.

Fantastic read. The world he grows is fascinating. The lead character is so multifaceted. My favorite part is Anthony Ryan finally to me figured out how to write about something mystical and fulfill the mystical part of it!! His past series I felt as if he didn’t hit the level that was needed.

Solid book. Very entertaining. From someone who has read The Game of Thrones series to The Wheel of Time and all the fantasy and sci-fi in between, this may not be the best, but it’s certainly a good read.

Amazingly intriguing. The most well written book I’ve ever read. Great plot, characters and setting. Can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Gorgeously Written. As an avid listener of audiobooks I found myself enraptured with the main character almost immediately. The story flowed beautifully if unexpectedly at times. I can go on and on however… I find myself writing this most likely sloppy review with a singularly pure intention to express. “It’s worth every penny, and you shouldn’t hesitate.”

Hooks you right in. The story building is great and seamless, every character has weight to their story without it being too overwhelming.

Got me back into fantasy!. This book (and the series as a whole) is such a wonderful collage of the darkness that is inside human nature. Alwyn is never quite the hero of the story, nor do you ever fully expect him to be, which makes for such an interesting viewpoint. Cannot recommend enough if you like a constant mental turmoil combined with subtle magic and combat that gives you goosebumps!

New Favorite Book. Best book I’ve read in a long time. Kept me engaged the whole way through and I’m excited for the second book. Excellent story telling and descriptive writing. 11/10

A fun read. I started off disliking the author’s writing style, as it seemed a bit too eloquent. But the dislike quickly faded as I began to really enjoy the characters. He injects just enough humor to make it fun without detracting from the grimness required of this genre, kind of like Abercrombie does. Looking forward to the sequel.
