Four famous siblings throw an epic party to celebrate the end of the summer. But over the course of twenty-four hours, their lives will change forever.

“One of the most anticipated [books] of the year—and rightfully so. . . . It’s a must-read.”—Parade

Malibu: August 1983. It’s the day of Nina Riva’s annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over—especially as the offspring of the legendary singer Mick Riva.

The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself, who never wanted to be the center of attention, and who has also just been very publicly abandoned by her pro tennis player husband. Oh, and maybe Hud—because it is long past time for him to confess something to the brother from whom he’s been inseparable since birth.

Jay, on the other hand, is counting the minutes until nightfall, when the girl he can’t stop thinking about promised she’ll be there.

And Kit has a couple secrets of her own—including a guest she invited without consulting anyone.

By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames. But before that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play, and the loves and secrets that shaped this family’s generations will all come rising to the surface.

Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them . . . and what they will leave behind.

Fabulous read

- Hello Frank4 star

I enjoyed this book. I like the way the author writes. It reminded me of Frank Sinatra ‘s life story. The characters were good reading though.

- I got sucked in by the reviews1 star

Terrible ending.. by the time I finished reading the last page I wished I had watched paint dry instead .

- Fine3 star

It was ok. Maybe a beach read. No depth and I could forget about it for weeks then pick it back up and feel like I hadn’t missed anything. The story was interesting and you want to find out who set fire to the house, so you get through it...eventually.

Great read.

- Great story5 star

All families have baggage and this one has its fair share. This is an enjoyable read.

- Great summer read5 star

So much intrigue. The backstory is so good and I felt so connected with the four siblings. Captivating leading up to the party and so much more beyond that. Great summer read

- 5 stars!!5 star

This is a can’t put down kind of book! Definitely 5 stars!

- Good not Great3 star

Like a reviewer said before, Pt 1 was great. 2… eh. Introduced way too many new characters and it just didn’t flow. She should have kept storyline central to the Riva’s.

- Part 1 is amazing, part 2 ... not so much.3 star

I loved part 1 of this book, Taylor Jenkins Reid captured the struggles and heartache of the main characters, in the first part! Part 2 introduced random characters and completely disconnected the story she was telling. In the end it all wraps up to give the reader a mediocre ending.

Very good

- Good but a bit predictable3 star

I was looking forward to a good summer beach read. Not bad but somewhat trite and amateurish writing.

What a fun book. Enjoyed story of this family’s beginning to start of creating their own adult lives. Reminiscent of own youth growing up in a small beach town on so cal coast. Special time💙

Absolutely loved it. Scandalous, heart wrenching and full of love. I couldn’t stop reading.

- Fanfreakingtastic5 star

I am not big on beach reads. They are more of a filler book for me. This was not a filler book. It had true depth, fun and seemed very real. I loved every minute of it!

- Awesome Book5 star

This book is well worth the read. It is a great story about family, loss, love and sibling bonds and figuring out who you are and who you want to be…All set in picturesque scenes of Southern California in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s Hollywood and surfing culture. Everything comes together really well from the plot to the scenery the story is set in, that make this book really easy to read, modern, fresh, but still a very meaningful story and not superficial. I have loved a devoured every book that I have read so far by Taylor Jenkins Reed. I love her writing style. I’m now on to my next book by her!
