A spicy retelling of a familiar Greek myth. I’m unfamiliar with Katee Robert’s other novels. Truthfully, the reason why I chose to read Neon Gods is because the story is a spicy spin on the Greek Myth of Hades and Persephone. So, I started reading this story with no expectations. Persephone finds out that she is betrothed to Zeus. This version is a ruthless power hungry, known killer who made a deal with Demeter. Demeter who was thinking only for herself obviously. To make a long story short, Persephone steps out to get some air with one of her sisters ( Callisto, I think) because this new revelation is a lot to digest., Persephone runs off while her sister runs back inside to retrieve her purse. She is tailed by one of Zeus’ minions. The only place where she can seek refuge is across the bridge between Olympus and the Underworld right into the arms of Hades. Hades who reluctantly takes her in knowing that this decision will start a war at some point with Zeus. Persephone’s public perception is that she’s chaste but she’s not. An plan is created to publicly defile her carnally in one of Hades’ playrooms and she agrees knowing the consequences. One thing that she doesn’t take into account is falling in love with Hades. My rating for this book is four stars out of five. I am willing to read any and every retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth. This Gods in this story are human’s taking up each mantle but everything is about perception.

Meh.. It’s not bad, but its far from good, it’s excessive use of the word “ducking” made me cringe. I guess the writer was in a smutty mood when writing it, and didn’t put much of a thought on the story.

Plot is meh. Spice delivers, but like a lot of these books the plot lacks. I find myself rolling my eyes and skipping pages

Wish I understood the hype. Don’t get me wrong, this was a very steamy book. But there was truly no substance to it. Half the time I just felt like none of the plot made sense. Everything felt very forced. I wish I enjoyed it more than I did.

Just okay. It was okay, but I don’t plan to read any more of these books. The whole thing was slightly less than, imo.

So sweet. I found this book from tik tok i think. Its so cute. The love story is absolutely adorable and its pretty well written. The map included in the beginning helps so much in visualizing where everything happens. The small moments in this book make it so much better. Its so cute.

Spicy but horrible literature. Y’all wanted a review so let’s dig into it 1.) THE MYTHOLOGY IS WRONG. Demeter has 1 daughter in mythology. She has 5 in this book 2.) They refer to the Olympians as “The Thirteen” 3.) The gods in this book are not immortal. They have the title as ZEUS or HERA or POSEIDON etc etc….These people are chosen to have a title of an Olympian. 4.) RIGHT OFF THE BAT, Persephone make a Sex deal with Hades, so she can avoid getting married to ZEUS. Whom has killed his past 3 wives who took the title HERA. I made it to chapter 7 before I decided to disregard the book. Is it Spicy…. Yes. But the book story telling is just awful.

Absolutely amazing. This book is hot! Spice level is 4/5. It surprised me, I honestly didn’t know what I was walking into when I started this book, but I was NOT disappointed. It captured my interest quickly, and it was easy to keep up with the story. Katee Robert, of course, nailed the writing in all aspects. I really tried to think of something I could nit pick at, but I can’t. Pacing is an important part (to me) when reading, and it was good. I rarely (if ever) found a scene to be boring.

I completely recommend. This story is beautifully well written, sultry, and hot. The sex scenes are hot and full of consent. You should read it.

Great retelling. The Persephone and Hades story has been a recent favorite of mine as a retelling. This is a great and spicy version.

Not my type of book. i thought to try the dark fantasy kinda book, and i did enjoy the writers writing and the plot was intresting, the book just didn’t have the charm or something to grab me in.

Hades is HOTTTTT. I once went to a certain college the summer before my actual/official Freshman year of college, simply because I wanted to take the Greek Mythology class they offered there. (True story) I should also disclose that I meant to take notes to use for the reviewing of this goodness….but I got too wrapped up in reading it in less than 48 hours (and prioritizing over homework) that I didn’t think about stopping to do it. And then I immediately went on to the next book. 😬 So to say I have a “thing” for Greek Mythology is a slight understatement. What Katee Robert did with the love story between Hades and Persephone was fantastic. It is going to blow your mind if you are expecting the Hades from Disney’s Hercules though. He is the furthest thing from that! This is a side of Hades that no one has portrayed in anything I have read before. The fact that these are not your classic telling of the stories is already a plus. But I love the way she has us eating out of the palm of her hand with the fresh, very current and down right SPICY 🌶️🌶️🌶️ telling of (Dark) Olympus. And quite frankly she has us begging for more books and STAT! I like that KR emphasizes consent in all the sex. But in regards to the sex it was often public sex in the underworld. But to that end….it was in Hades world yet the people of Olympus ,both upper and lower districts, didn’t know he existed. That part has me confused. I loved how she portrayed Zeus though. Because I think Z is a weirdo even in the way we are used to hearing any story with him in it. He has an ego for days, creepy, screwing anything and anyone and thinking its fine all because, by gollee, he is ZEUS! Ugh. I am no fan of his (not that he cares, haha). I hope that the world building gets a bit better in the coming books. I will definitely be reading them as well. I also plan on reading her “dirty Disney” series after I read all of the Dark Olympus series that is available. Until the next review, happy reading, my friends.

LOVED IT. AMAZING!! Careful where you read it though, the spice level is high! The detail, the fact that it’s full of consent is so hot, and the tasteful way she paints the picture of kink and fetish play is refreshing to say the least. She’s reversing the damage done by 59 shades of grey. The retelling of the Olympus hierarchy was genius, she really made this story her own and i loved that. Cannot wait to get into book 2!

Worth the hype. This book has a perfect balance. The character development, plot, imagery, and sexy scenes are everything I could want and more. Read this over some of her other books.

Dear god. Okay so I started this series because I just have a profound interest in Greek mythology but also love romance novels. If you are thinking of reading this and you’re under 18 please reconsider it is sooooo spicy. I really did enjoy this and am looking forward to seeing where the series goes.

Excellent romance. Loved this book! The scenes were so hot and the love story was delicious. My only complaint was the ending, I feel like it could have been more involved and thorough, it just kinda all wrapped up and I feel like there is a lot more the author could have done with these characters.

Fantasy erotica must read. A must read for those who’ve been looking for a Hades-Persephone book done right. The plot line and story beyond just the sex are worth it. And the sex scenes, my god. This book surprised me by how much I liked it. I may or may not have read it several times already, which is a rarity.

SO STEAMY! Incredible Storyline!. So well written! The storyline is incredible and the intimate parts are SO steamy!! I couldn’t put it down 😍

Hot and Spicy. I felt that this book was a little slow in some areas, but still managed to keep me on the edge of seat. This book managed to have everything you would want on a book, romance/steamy scenes, suspense, and so much more. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Weeeell. Hades was written as someone of Hades’ position should have been written, I had a hard time conjuring him in my mind though. However the damsel in distress that Persephone’s been painted as (tale as old as time, literally) really irritates me. She comes off as some sort of fool who lets the jerks get away with things just to keep the peace. I couldn’t relate to her as a person. I enjoyed the confidence she shows the longer she’s with Hades though, incl the exhibitionism haha now THAT was a twist to this myth.
