The Girls in the Snow

The Girls in the Snow by Stacy Green Book Summary

Madison walked through the fallen snow, looking left and right. It had been Kaylee’s idea to use the trail through the forest; she said no one would follow them. But Madison lost sight of Kaylee for a moment and when she found her again she wasn’t alone…

In the remote forests of Stillwater, Minnesota, you can scream for days and no one will hear you. So when the bodies of two fifteen-year-old girls are discovered frozen in the snow, Special Agent Nikki Hunt is sure the killer is local: someone knew where to hide the girls and thought they would never be found.

Though Nikki hasn’t been home in twenty years, she knows she must take over the case. The Sheriff’s department in Stillwater has already made a mistake by connecting the girls’ murders to those of a famous serial killer, refusing to consider the idea that the killer could be someone from town.

Then another girl’s body is found, a red silk ribbon tied in her hair, and Nikki realizes that the killer has a connection to her own dark past, and the reason she left Stillwater.

Nikki is not the only person in town who wants those secrets to stay hidden. Will she be able to face her demons before another child is taken?

Gripping and spine-chilling, The Girls in the Snow will make you gasp, unable to put it down until the final heart-pounding twist. Perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Lisa Gardner and Robert Dugoni.

- Great read!4 star

Minnesota girl here! This was my first Stacy Green read and I truly enjoyed The Girls in the Snow! Green perfectly captured Stillwater and its surrounding areas, not to mention a Minnesota winter! Nikki’s backstory, while heartbreaking, impacted every aspect of her life and made her relatable to readers (we all have some trauma or past that seems to follow us around, right?) I found myself questioning who the true killer(s) was throughout and have to admit I didn’t expect the ending! I look forward to next Nikki Hunt book!

- 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻5 star

One of the best books I’ve read all year!

- Fast paced thriller4 star

This is a well-paced, engaging story. I found the characters convincing and interesting and I did not see the ending coming. The author does a great job of creating a sense of place.

- Twists and turns!5 star

Special Agent Nikki Hunt returns to her hometown to catch the murderer of two young girls. Returning home 20 years after her parents brutal murder brings back unwelcome memories. This book grabbed me from the start. Engaging characters with an edge of your seat mystery kept me glued to the pages. Twists and turns that’ll have you guessing the whole way through. I’m looking forward to more to more in this series.

- Strong female protagonist4 star

I’ve always been slightly obsessed with detective novels, especially when there is a strong female protagonist. I’ve thought long and hard about the profession and while I’d love the thrill of solving the crimes, I wouldn’t love the dead bodies and danger. But that doesn’t stop me from reading as many crimes novels as I can. In the first book of a new series, Nikki Hunt is an FBI agent specializing in hunting serial killers. She became a law enforcement officer because her parents were murdered and she was the key witness at their trial. She’s quite good at her job and Frost is the only serial killer she’s chased and not caught. She heads to her hometown of Stillwater to investigate a double homicide that shows indications of Frost’s handiwork. As she starts to investigate, she learns the innocence project is investigating the conviction in her parents murder. She needs to focus on the murders that brought her back home, but with her past at every turn, is it possible to stay on task? I can’t imagine all she’s been through and having to focus as she must relive her past. Stacy Green does a great job of weaving the two stories together. I can’t wait to see where the series heads. I recommend this one for all the crime buffs out there
