MURDER (AND BAKLAVA) is the debut novel in a charming new cozy mystery series by #1 bestselling author Blake Pierce, whose Once Gone has over 1,500 five-star reviews.

When London Rose, 33, is proposed to by her long-time boyfriend, she realizes she is facing a stable, predictable, pre-determined (and passionless) life. She freaks out and runs the other way—accepting instead a job across the Atlantic, as a tour-guide on a high-end European cruise line that travels through a country a day. London is searching for a more romantic, unscripted and exciting life that she feels sure exists out there somewhere.

London is elated: the European river towns are small, historic and charming. She gets to see a new port every night, gets to sample an endless array of new cuisine and meet a stream of interesting people. It is a traveler’s dream, and it is anything but predictable.

But when a wealthy, high-maintenance passenger suddenly turns up dead outside of Budapest, the cruise has become a bit too unpredictable. Even worse: as the last person to see her alive, suspicion falls on London, leaving her no choice but to solve the crime (with her new sidekick, an orphaned dog), and save her cruise line and herself.

Laugh-out-loud funny, romantic, endearing, rife with new sights, culture and food, MURDER (AND BAKLAVA) offers a fun and suspenseful trip through the heart of Europe, anchored in an intriguing mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing until the very last page.

Great story. A fun romp in Europe with an international criminal and an average working-girl sleuth. It was a fun read!

Stevereader47

Nancy Drew is better. This is one of the worst written books I have ever read. It is crushingly repetitive, horribly predictable, and written for a fourth grade reader. The plot was juvenile and full of ridiculous holes and unrealistic oversights. Characters are cliched caricatures. The only good thing about it was that it was free and took only a couple of hours to read. Read anything else—it will be better.

Buzzirose

My review. Now here’s a book you can’t put down. It actually felt like I was on that ship with London lol. I enjoyed it very much. Liz Smith

Gamer1644

Awesome book. This book held my interest from beginning till the end. Kept me guessing who the killer was. Usually I figure out the killer myself. Really good book.

Kyboater02

Murder and baklava. Loved this book! Very well written and the storyline was great.

Jmgtif

Great mystery. Kept me reading till the last page. Good mystery and had me wondering till the end. Was good and didnt read the ending before finishing the book. Really liked the setting and London. But liked that she adopted Sir Reggie. Nice touch.

Gweneeth

Murder and Baclava. Very simplistic and wordy. The unveiling of the thief was good but the rest, not so great. Thanks for writing. G

Barnzart

A Good Read…. Gotta love the little dog… A fun, clean and cozy mystery!

GGRANNY.

Murder and Baklava. I loved the entire book. Was surprised at the end. Very pleasant. I am certainly ready to read the next in series.

Texaslady 51

Easy Chair Travel. I love to cruise but with COVID-19 that has become impossible. Let Blake take you cruising down the beautiful Danube river, see the churches, the shopping plazas, and taste the baklava. Delightful book for travel lovers!

Ramblin' Rise

Fun on the Danube. A few red herrings, lots of European history, more than enough suspects and you have a great read!!!

Jley1127

Usually enjoy her books. I usually like her books but this was a lame attempt at an Agatha Christie novel, which is even referenced in the book.

Annoyed for now.

Murder and Baklava. Original and fun

Ravens wood

Delightful read!. Highly recommend this book. Begins in a magnificent country and takes along the Danube River. A journey well worth experiencing

Coleyinsc

Great Main Character!. Loved the main character and think this will be a great series. The story seemed to move a bit slow for me. Other than that, I really enjoyed.

Poopie438

Good clean fun. This book is what I would recommend for Nancy Drew fans

Season4unme2

Intriguing. Very good mystery with lots of who done it moments.

Cpjustme

Good read. Keeps you guessing

Patsy Lou

Enjoyed the story. Fun I liked the riverboat setting.

Mugrani

A jolly good read. Was a simple, cute and relaxing read. Had a few laughs. As she is not exactly the most proficient detective. Laughable

Orange grower susan

Good cosy mystery read. A fun read with some interesting characters in a world renowned and stunning setting.

SuLuCo

Three and a half stars.. This book had a very slow beginning as the plot introduced the main character and attempted to give her some background. This slow start was rather tedious but once a victim finally appeared the mystery began to reveal itself with the actual crime identified not as murder but manslaughter. It was certainly no ‘Death on the Nile’ but a simple tale with an unprepossessing amateur sleuth.

Simini71

European murder. Intrigued by the new series to which I was at first apprehensive as it wasn’t themed on FBI mysteries but after delving into the story I began to think differently and was impressed that the character were similar and a detective at heart. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Lucret

Editorial. Enjoyed the plot. However their are a few editorial mistakes, missing words and the incorrect deck for the couple in witness protection

L122e

Don’t judge a book by its cover!. I only read this book because it was by one of my favourite authors. The old fashioned looking cover didn’t intrigue me at all. However it was a very colourful and witty novel. Really enjoyed reading it. But I must admit, I did guess the murderer early on lol.

Charles Pierce (July 14, 1926 – May 31, 1999) was one of the 20th century's foremost female impersonators, particularly noted for his impersonation of Bette Davis. Life and career Born in Watertown, New York, he began his show business career playing the organ and acting in radio dramas at station WWNY. He branched out into a comedy routine, attired in tuxedo, yet managing to evoke eerily convincing imitations of popular movie actresses. Eschewing the term drag queen, which he hated, he billed himself as a male actress. Initially playing in small gay clubs, his fame spread. He took up residence in San Francisco, where his act became well known to Hollywood stars. As he toured, his costuming became more elaborate, initially adding small props, later full costume and makeup changes. His imitations were imitated by other female impersonators, and his roles included Bette Davis, Mae West, Tallulah Bankhead, Gloria Swanson, Carol Channing, Katharine Hepburn, and Joan Crawford, and these ....
